A portmanteau is a combination of two or more words to make a new word or phrase, often going against the accepted traditions of how words are compounded. The term originally referred to a man's travel bag which contained two main pockets. Portmanteaus were first given that name by [[Wikipedia:Lewis Carroll|Lewis Carroll]] to describe "slithy" in the poem [[Wikipedia:Jabberwocky|Jabberwocky]], a combination of "lithe" and "slimy".

[[Strong Bad]] and [[Senor Cardgage]], especially, frequently create portmanteaus. [[The Brothers Chaps]] also often use portmanteaus when providing captions for [[Sketchbook]] and [[Weekly Fanstuff]] entries.

When made by Strong Bad, they are often preceeded by the two words of which they're comprised. (E.G. "your smelly underling, or smunderling")

*When Homestar and Coach Z are walking along together, they don't leave any footprints in the snow.
