The part when the imagination pictures of Ali and Ali's sister, the cracks over-lap them as well as the words making it appear as if they're pictures from the Tandy. I was going to put it up as a Goof, but I didn't know where (I was rethinking about it).
== Easter Eggs ==
*When the pictures of the sisters appear, you can click on them to have Strong Bad imagine different variations.

== Fun Facts ==
===Trivia===
*When this email was first released, Strong Bad's head typed, "bam—bam—bigalow", the name of a [http://www.wrestlinginformer.net/bam_bam_bigelow.htm professional wrestler]. This was later changed to the current, "head—hit—keyboard". The reason for the change is unknown.
*When Strong Bad is imagining which girl is hotter, the cracks on the monitor over-lap the words ''and'' his imagination.

===Remarks===
*Strong Bad says that he "hate[s] this computer," which is contrary to his statement in [[gimmicks]] that he "liked that computer."

===Real-World References===
*The first images of Ali and her sister are taken from the first [[Wikipedia:Leisure Suit Larry|Leisure Suit Larry]] game, ''Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards''. The additional images seen in the Easter egg are from the second game in the series, ''Leisure Suit Larry Goes Looking for Love (in Several Wrong Places)''.

===Fast Forward===
*In [[personal favorites]], the [[Grape-Nuts Robot]] says "Come back, [[Ali and Ali's Sister|Ali]]. Come back, Ali's sister."
*In [[do over]], Strong Bad imagines how he would correct the "stnank" he commits in this email. He also names Ali's sister "Ali Jr."

== DVD Version ==
*In the DVD version, the Ali/Ali's sister Easter egg is implemented differently. If you hit "Angle," when Strong Bad thinks of each girl, the image changes, similar to how clicking on them changed them in the original email.
'''Marzipan's Answering Machine''' is probably one of the most overlooked sections on the [[Homestar Runner (Flash cartoon)|Homestar Runner website]], likely because it has little or no animation. The messages often dive deeper into interpersonal relationships between the [[Characters|characters]], with each short message packed with insight. Some mainstays of the section are [[Strong Bad]]'s unrelenting prank calls, [[Homestar Runner|Homestar]]'s constant misunderstandings, and [[Coach Z]]'s and [[Strong Sad]]'s depressing ramblings. It also features various other surprise messages and cameos from major and minor characters.
== Should there be External Links? ==
Okay, I just realized, we don't have external links on the [[Strong Bad Email]] page, so why do we have links on this one? Should we get rid of them here, or add them to the SBEmail page? I'm thinking they might be kindof nice over there. It'd be one less click to get to your favorite email, but they would add clutter. My vote is we remove external links from this page. — {{User:JoeyDay/sig}} 08:51, 4 Aug 2004 (MST)

:I like making people go to the individual page. You know, force them to look at our work. I think the only reason the Marzipan's Answering Machine page had them was because of the different format that we used for them in 'Tavi. We only had a transcipt for each episode, so the link could be on the main page. With the newer format, that really isn't necessary. Does that make sense?
:Anyway, I agree, we should remove the external link from this page. -- [[User:Tom|Tom]] 09:52, 4 Aug 2004 (MST)

== Cameos? ==

:I was just thinking about the Kevin Scott message, and it occured to me that since Homestar Runner is starting to get a larger following, with appearances on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, ect., I wonder if they'll ever put more cameos on the Answering Machine, from better known celebrities. They certainly could pretty easily, it would increase the appeal of the answering machine, and would be a cool addition. I dunno, I was just pondering, and that came to me. I just figured I'd say it somewhere. That's all. [[User:Thunderbird L17|''[[User:Thunderbird L17|⇔Thunderbird⇔]]'']] 12:56, 30 Dec 2004 (MST)

== Separate Screenshots? ==

Are screenshots needed for every answering machine? I can see why [[Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 7.0|Version 7.0]]-[[Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 10.2|Version 10.2]] needs one- they all have extra animation. But the others really have no reason for a screenshot, do they? →''[[User:FireBird|FireBird]]''

:I was the one who made those screenshots and put them there, so personally, I like them of course. I think it's nice for every page to have some sort of picture at the top. If having too many near-identical pictures is a problem, then perhaps the versions without extra animation could just have the same picture from the Answering Machine/PhoneTime pages. [[User:Homestar Coder|Aurora the Homestar Coder]] 16:54, 3 Apr 2005 (MDT)

::I do agree that every page looks better with a screenshot, but I think it's a tad unneccisary. One single image for each page, like you said, would be better, in my opinion. →''[[User:FireBird|FireBird]]''

:::I think it's okay for each page to have a separate image.[[User:Tom|<nowiki></nowiki>]] -- [[User:Tom|Tom]] 17:25, 3 Apr 2005 (MDT)

:::In response to FireBird: I don't see what the difference is between having a different screenshot for each Machine and putting the same image on each Machine, really. The only reasons that I could think of where you would prefer the same image on each Machine are 1) if you didn't feel like making separate images for each one (not an issue, since they're already made) and 2) if there isn't enough disk space / bandwith for all those images (maybe an issue, but the extra images are a drop in the bucket compared to the Wiki as a whole). [[User:Homestar Coder|Aurora the Homestar Coder]] 18:05, 3 Apr 2005 (MDT)
==Version X.2==
I don't like the .2 tags to the most recent answering machines. I see why they're there, but if we have those, we might as well make the others X.0. I think we should take them away. -- [[User:Joshua|Joshua]] 18:33, 1 May 2005 (UTC)

::Well, I see that you changed it, and found that it shouldn't have been changed though the speedy reverts. Generally, waiting less than a day or two for a response might not be ideal. Asking on a few people's talk pages is usually the best way to get attention if something is so pressing that you can't wait another twenty-four hours. Of course, '''being bold''' is a good way to get attention too. Either way, you got it. It may (I dunno) be worth pointing out that they seem to be using a segmented-display-ish font that has little to do with how segmented displays actually work. In particular, the diagonal segments overlap (which is impossible), and the 1 has a little serif at the top. [[User:24.7.130.199|24.7.130.199]] 22:06, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
I deleted the KOT DVD reference, as I could not find an answering machine anywhere in either version of the toon.
Also, I'm not sure the garage sale reference belongs on this page. The cameo is simply an appearance of the device, not a normal answering machine gag and definitely not ''just like this feature''.
:: Ooops, right. Joshua pointed that out, too. New question: Does this belong on a page entitled ''Marzipan's Answering Machine''? Seems like, technically, either (a) we need a [[The King of Town's Answering Machine]] page, or (b) we need to genericize the current page. At a minimum, I think it would be appropriate to retitle this section "''Other'' Answering Machine Segments", which I've just done. {{User:Bill/sig}} 21:58, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
It doesn't make a lot of sense to make this anything other than a redirect page to the Wikipedia entry. All the pages within the Homestar Runner Wiki universe sort of "assume" you have been briefed on the basics of what Homestar Runner is, and it seems that if you haven't been, then the Wikipedia entry is exactly the aerial view you are looking for...

:I do not think so. Think of this. A guy likes wikis and is a member in one, but doesnt know what Homestar is. He gets a link to some SBEmail via mail and enjoys it. forget about is for a few days and than want to see it again. He searches Google for it and found us just under the main site. "Wow! ::I don't disagree that this wiki is the most useful resource. That's why I've been focusing on broadening the cooperation and trust between Wikipedia and The Homestar Runner Wiki, and if you want to see some of the general strategy ideas, see [[Wikipedia:Template_talk:Hrwiki|this discussion]] attached to a template which I created as an experiment to prominently point readers towards the HRWiki as a trusted [[Wikipedia:Interwiki|Interwiki Sister Projects]]. What I'd like to see is a natural forwarding to occur from the Wikipedia into the Homestar Runner Wiki, and if this is done properly there won't be a concern. The first step is for the two projects to trust and build on each other. Plain ol' duplication helps no one... (acct creation seems to be broken, so I'm just my IP address, sorry)
As you can see, Homestar reached his peek on the middle of 2003 (About the time [[Pulse Interview - 1 Aug 2003|Pulse Interview]] took place, showing the site to alot of people for the first time). Then it declined and peeked again on February 6 (I recall this was the exact time, because [[Peasant's Quest Movie Trailer]] was released and the site crashed). == Since when is TGS Bland and Monotonous? ==

"Another popular feature on the website is Strong Bad's crudely drawn comic series Teen Girl Squad. The comic parodies four archetypical high-school clichés; in their quest to become unique and popular, they are bland and monotonous. This is evident in the girls' nondescript names: Cheerleader, So and So, What's Her Face, and The Ugly One. "

I completely disagree. I wouldn't consider them what they are called in this discription. {{User:Salty/sig}} 05:33, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
:<s>No. They're interesting. It's more "exciting and adventerous." Kinda. Either way, it is ''not'' bland or monotonous. {{User:Bubsty/sig}} 05:37, 4 December 2005 (UTC)</s>
::No, no, no. You guys got it backwards. I know what it's saying. I just can't explain it adequately. Somebody get someone who has a way with words (Dot com, Stux, Abdi, etc.) over here and explain about how they try so hard to be cool and thus end up failing, and how each episode is the same thing if you break it down, or whatever I'm trying to say. It's talking more about the characters than the events and scenarios. The characters never change as people. --[[User:DorianGray|DorianGray]]
:::Bland and Monotonous pretty much mean '''boring'''. Which means... you're right. After thinking about it Dorian, I realize you gota point. I was thinking you meant the ''toon'' was "bland and monotonous." Sorry. {{User:Bubsty/sig}} 05:44, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
:::Here's the essence: The girls try to be cool by fitting the stereotypical "cool girl" profile. But in doing so, they just become cardboard cutouts as characters. To clinch this argument: [[What's Her Face]] has always been clearly the most interesting character to me, and she is the iconoclast who ''doesn't'' try to fit stereotypes. :::::::LOL; just keep track of which paper gets wich language! Back on topic: Perhaps some better words could be found than "bland and monotonous." The author's original point is valid, but these are kinda value-laden (leading to Bubsty's reaction). What about something involving the words "conformist" and "anonymity"? In fact, I'ma go do that now.
:::::::But to critique the original comment: it's becoming increasingly ''less'' true, as the girls' characters are increasingly defined. So and So is a math-oriented, overachieving workaholic, while What's Her Face is the resident low-key vegan hippiecrat. And the intriguing thing about her... iconoclasm? iconoclasticism? ...and counter-culture is that it ''isn't'' tempered by protest against her friends' materialism and brutal social competition; she isn't so much a rebel that she won't hang out and go along with Cheerleader's itineraries. (Maybe because if she were counter-cultural ''and'' annoyingly vocal she'd be Marzipan!) —[[User:AbdiViklas|AbdiViklas]] 22:12, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
'''Homestar Runner''' (often abbreviated '''HR''', '''HSR''' or '''H*R''') is an animated cartoon series available mostly through homestarrunner.com. It has an absurdist sense of humor similar to that found in ''[[Wikipedia:H.R. Pufnstuf|H.R. Pufnstuf]]''. Although originally conceived as [[Original Book|a book written for children]], the site is perhaps most popular with (and has been gravitating toward) young adults, with its short movies, games, charmingly naïve music, and plentiful opportunities for interaction.

==Cartoons==
[[Image:everybody-poster.PNG|thumb|The Homestar Runner cast, as shown on the [[Everybody Everybody Poster|Everybody Everybody Poster]].]]
The [[Toons|cartoons]] nominally center on [[Homestar Runner]], a somewhat dim but goodhearted athlete. The character [[Strong Bad]], however, is often more popular among fans, mostly through his near-weekly updates of [[Strong Bad Email]], short cartoons in which he answers viewer email. Strong Bad works closely with his sidekick [[The Cheat]] and uses his brother [[Strong Mad]] as the muscle in his operations. Together, the three prey on Strong Bad's awkward and constantly depressed brother [[Strong Sad]]. Many of the site's features—[[Songs|music]], [[Games|games]], [[Main Pages|main pages]], etc.—are based on things from the Strong Bad Emails.

Several other characters fill out the [[Free Country, USA|world]]: Homestar's hippie girlfriend [[Marzipan]], his best friend [[Pom Pom]], their coach [[Coach Z]], local [[Bubs' Concession Stand|concession stand]] operator and dancer [[Bubs]], [[The King of Town]], and his [[The Poopsmith|Poopsmith]]. Rounding out the cast is [[Homsar]], a gibberish-speaking character created on account of (and in mock of) [[homsar|a poorly written email to Strong Bad]].

Another popular feature on the website is Strong Bad's crudely drawn comic series ''[[Teen Girl Squad]]''. The comic parodies four archetypal high-school girls and their equally archetypal quest for attractiveness, popularity, and the occasional Pan-Asian Cuisine.

Nearly every Monday, some sort of update (a short, a longer cartoon, a Strong Bad e-mail, a video game, or real-life merchandise like CDs and action figures) is added to the website.

==Background==
[[Image:Making_of_100_email.jpg|thumb|The Brothers Chaps making the [[flashback|the 100th Strong Bad Email]], as seen in the [[strongbad email.exe|DVD]] feature "[[Making of Email 100]]".]]
The series is the product of [[Matt Chapman|Matt]] and [[Mike Chapman]], who typically call themselves "[[The Brothers Chaps]]." Matt Chapman provides the voices of the male characters, while [[Missy Palmer]] (Mike's wife) does that of Marzipan. Mike Chapman provides the stilted voices for [[Powered by The Cheat|The Cheat's amateurish Flash cartoons]]. Many other [[Contributors|contributors]] help with the series.

Because the Brothers Chaps run their own website, they have a creative freedom that they would not have doing a regular TV show. Though the site sells [[Store|Homestar merchandise]], it has no commercials, and a few of the cartoons parody advertising, with products like [[Fluffy Puff Marshmallows]]. The Internet has allowed them to reach a large audience that they wouldn't have access to otherwise. Originally, they developed Homestar Runner as a labor of love, and for their own amusement. It has grown large enough that merchandise sales pay for all of the costs of running the website. An article in the ''Chicago Tribune'' on July 24, 2003, reports [[Don and Harriet Chapman|the retired parents of the Brothers Chaps]] are spending a lot of time dealing with the business aspects of the website.

The website, built mostly out of [[Wikipedia:Macromedia Flash|Macromedia Flash]] animations, is filled with hidden [[Easter egg]]s: if a certain area on the page is mouse-clicked at the right time, an additional cartoon or screen will appear. For example, in the Strong Bad Email [[studying]], viewers can view a hidden [[Bookazon.com|Web page]] about a book that Strong Bad mentions. Also, at the end of the e-mail [[vacation]], you can click on one of five postcards to hear what Strong Bad thinks of the particular [[Strong Bad's Vacation Spots|place he has visited]].
I heard that Homeschool Winner was the original prototype for [[Homsar]]. As Homsar gained in popularity, they didn't need to use Homeschool Winner anywhere.

Homsar? Really? They look nothing alike! That's cool, where did you hear that? I'm probobly going to dress up as him for a halloween costume party. [[User:Stongbah]]

They look alike to me; same color scheme, are both Homestar-like characters, and were both named after attempts to say "Homestar." --[[User:Trogga|TROGGA!]] 03:00, 8 Jul 2005 (UTC)

As with all famous cartoon character ensembles, [[Homestar Runner (flash cartoon)|Homestar Runner]] went through its fair share of line-up changes early on, before the final group of twelve main characters were chosen. The '''rejected characters''' are those who seem to have been abandoned, with very few sightings to date. Some appeared in an early toon or game, while others are only seen in the [[Museum Sketchbook]] or the [[Character Cards]]. All that is known about them for sure is that they won't be around much anymore.
===== Homeschool Winner =====
The mysterious character of Homeschool Winner came about when a friend of [[The Brothers Chaps|the Brothers Chaps]] was unable to recall [[Homestar Runner]]'s name. In the [[Club Aquatica Interview - 29 Oct 2003|Club Aquatica interview]], [[Matt Chapman|Matt]] recalls that his friend said: "What's your website, HomeschoolWinner.com?" Homeschool is described as "a big nerd, with maybe a creepy edge to him."

The character seems to have been aborted, with few sightings to date. He first appeared and was named on the [[Character Cards]], which are now on a [[Secret Pages|secret page]]. He then made a cameo in one of the backgrounds of [[Dancin' Bubs]]. Humorously mentioned in the [[Sample of Style]] video on the [[strongbad email.exe|DVD]], [[Mike Chapman|Mike]] breaks the tube Matt uses to "make" [[Bubs]]' voice, and Matt says: "Great. Now we have to kill off Bubs. Just like Homeschool Winner."
||

=====The Unguraits=====
The Unguraits are [[Wikipedia:Nintendo|Nintendo]]-style bandits, (resembling Shy Guys and Bandits from popular Nintendo titles) that are seen in a set of [[Character Cards]] along with Homeschool Winner, shown above. The Brothers Chaps had apparently considered using them as the forces of [[Blue Laser]] in [[Cheat Commandos]] toons, but this idea appears to have been dumped.
|-
|[[Image:Unnamed_Girl.PNG|150px]] ||

=====An Unnamed Girl=====
This [[Unnamed Characters|unnamed character]] appears in the background of the [[Dancin' Bubs|Dancin' Bubs Game]]. In the [[Club Aquatica Interview - 29 Oct 2003|Club Aquatica Interview]], the interviewer refers to her as Strong Glad, and Matt Chapman offhandedly agrees to that being her name. Strong Glad is really a sketch of [[Strong Sad]] with long, girly legs, seen in the [[Museum Sketchbook]].
|-
|[[Image:Sketchbook Nine.PNG|150px]] ||

===== Dijjery-Doo =====
The Dijjery-Doo is a character that was abandoned in the design phase because it was too "[[The Cheat|Cheat]]-like" and "walrus-like". It is only seen in the [[Museum Sketchbook]]. Its name comes from the [[Wikipedia:Didgeridoo|didgeridoo]], a traditional Australian [[Wikipedia:Aborigine|Aboriginal]] instrument.
||

=====Trivia Time=====
Trivia Time was going to be [[Pom Pom]]'s dog. Although there are some concept sketches in the [[Museum Sketchbook]], he's never appeared directly in a Homestar cartoon because the Brothers Chaps couldn't make a good design. A cookie jar with his likeness is in a few toons, and in the [[Homestarloween Party]], one of the [[Pom Pom's girls|girls]]' dog "Chris" looks a lot like Trivia Time.
The '''Quote of the Week''' is a sound bite from the [[Homestar Runner (Flash cartoon)|Homestar Runner]] universe. These are found by clicking on the ''Q'' at the top of the [[Main Pages]], and are generally updated each week on Thursday. Here is a list of all Quotes of the Week collected since this feature started on January 10, 2002. Since early 2004, the Quote of the Week was updated with more regularity. The dates of some quotes are estimated on the basis of the file-modified date.

:''For the July 29th-November 11th, 2004 quotes, the download option was only available as a .zip file. As of the November 22nd quote, however, the download option appears to only be as a straight mp3, and they appear to be deleting each quote of the week as soon as the next one is released.''

:''Quotes after November 11, 2004 are transcribed on the website. Directly saving and opening the [[HR:qod.swf|Flash file]] produces some odd results; the standard Homestar image will appear along with a default message, as shown on the right.''
==Fun Facts==

*If there is a problem finding the [[HR:weeklies/weeklies.xml|weeklies.xml]] file, the text (which has no sound) is Homestar saying:

"Oh Haldo! This is my
funniest word style
ever times that I've
said! Hope all is on
to it even more
lately! And I wish the
chicken & msg place
was open on
Somedays."

:*This makes references to [[Peasant's Quest]] ([[Unusual Greetings#Haldo|Haldo]]), [[for kids]] ([[All Is On|all is on]]), [[Teen Girl Squad Issue 3]] (MSG), and [[monster truck]] (Somedays).
*Formerly, the text was:

"Oh Hello! This is my
funniest word style
ever that I said! Hope
you're into it!"

*Homsar's "I'm the human wedgie" quote was used twice. Although the two sound bites were identical, the text used in both cases were slightly different. (The first time it was "I'm" whereas the second was "AAAaaaAAh'm").
**Homestar's "The good times are over!" quote was also used twice, with spelling differences (lower-case letters instead of caps.) However, this probably was an accident or a placeholder, as it was changed the following day.
**Although it wasn't identical, Bubs had a line as well, "Everybody knows me. Mine name Cornbread.", that is very similar to "I got it-I got everything you wan know. Everybody know me, my name Cornbread."
*In Bubs' quote from June 30th, 2005, "Check it out" was said 16 times.
*February 9, 2006's quote calls the feature "Quote of the Day" rather than its real name "Quote of the Week".
*When using a character head that hasn't been added yet, Homestar's head is used until the appropriate character's head is uploaded. This has happened with the Geddup Noise's and Horrible Painting's quotes.

==Fun Facts==
