[[Image:Summer Store.png|thumb|Summer Store]] [[Image:Autumn Store.PNG|thumb|Autumn Store]] [[Image:Winter Store With Homestar.PNG|thumb|Winter Store]]
The '''store footer''' is a small animation at the bottom of every store page. It features [[Bubs]] at his [[Bubs' Concession Stand|concession stand]], bobbing his head. The animation changes throughout the day and year. If you click on the 'D' in "BUBS' CONCES5ION STAN'''D'''", [[Homestar Runner]] will run up to Bubs' and do the short dance he did in [[Lookin at a Thing in a Bag]], then leave. In the winter theme, Homestar Runner wears his hat from [[The Best Decemberween Ever]].

====Time of year changes====
== Other Places To Buy ==

===Local Business Area Stores===
According to [[HRStore:reop.html|this page]], independent comic book, music/video, and other specialty shops now have an opportunity to sell H*R merchandise (The Brothers Chaps say that they must never have a sale on the products or have the prices lower than TBC have them marked, to keep sales good). Find them with the [[HRStore:storelocator.html|store locator]].

===Froogle Search===
If you search for [http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=Homestar+Runner Homestar Runner] at [http://froogle.google.com Froogle], you can see H*R products being sold at various other stores.

===Magazines===
Homestar merchandise also turns up in the occasional issue of Previews Magazine (limited on-line version can be seen [http://previews.diamondcomics.com here]), which lists upcoming items available for purchase through local comic stores.

===Comic Cons===
[[Image:Comic Con.jpg|thumb|Some seriously nerdy stuff]]
Merchandise was available for sale at Comic Conventions and shows around the country throughout 2005. The Homestar Runner booth was staffed by [[Don_and_Harriet_Chapman|Strong Dad and The Mother Chaps]]. Those who attended had a chance to win door prizes consisting of autographed merchandise. Freebies were included within every purchase.

===DragonCon===
Merchandise was also sold at booth #101 in the Exhibitor's Hall for all 4 days of [http://www.dragoncon.org/ DragonCon] in Atlanta, Georgia. The Homestar Runner booth was staffed by the Brothers Chaps, the Family Chaps, and other members of the Homestar crew.

This location was parodied in the short toon [[TrogdorCon '97]].

== Fun Facts ==
===Trivia===
*From left to right, the T-shirts play the notes A, B, C-sharp, D-sharp, G-sharp, A-sharp, C, C-sharp, D-sharp, E, and F-sharp. You play songs by moving your mouse over shirts.
*While loading the musical shirt selection, a message flashes, reading "loading shirtfun".
*While loading a "Thank-you" message, a loading screen appears reading "load 'er up".
*The Kick The Cheat plush toy was not available for purchase for a five-month period beginning 12 April 2005.

===Inside References===
*The Store Locator on the new store features The United States and Canada in white underwear, a reference to [[weird dream]].
*The store's footer at the bottom of the store is Bubs' "checkitout" dance from [[Lookin at a Thing in a Bag]].
*The "GARBAGE SALE" sign with the "B" crossed out is a reference to [[garage sale]].

===Goofs===
*On the Store Locator map, Wisconsin is spelled "Wisonsin"
*On the Store Locator map, the links for Alberta and British Colombia are backwards; clicking Alberta references an anchor labeled "#BC", while clicking British Colombia references "#ALB".

===Real-World References===
*"Wide-Mart and Lackluster Video and Music," mentioned in [[HRStore:reop.html|Retail Opportunities]], are [[Wikipedia:Wal-Mart|Wal-Mart]] and [[Wikipedia:Blockbuster Video|Blockbuster Video]] takeoffs.
*Under the "T-Shirts!!" section, it reads "Grab an ice cold "H STAR R" or a great tasting "HOMESTAR LITE" A new twist on some old favorites! (They're even better than Coke with lime!)". [[Wikipedia:Coca-Cola with Lime|Coke with lime]] is a new flavor of Coca-Cola with the catchphrase "a little twist on a great thing".
*The "Thank You" page's page title is "Thank you so much for to buying our crap!" This is a reference to the phrase Mario says at the end of [[Wikipedia:Super Mario 64|Super Mario 64]]: "Thank you so much for to playing my game!"
*The "Trogdor High-Score Club" patch may be a takeoff of the old [[Wikipedia:Activision|Activision]] club patches. If you sent them a picture of a high score on a game, they would send you a club patch.
With 1.4 and earlier, it is not possible to have a link that would always display what was on the page at the time that you viewed it, as the current link in 1.4 just has an [http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php?title=HRWiki_talk:Upgrade_to_MediaWiki_1.5&oldid=0 oldid of 0]. That link will always take you to the current version, which may have been updated since the time you linked to the article. :::When no one was looking late last night, I did a complete dry run and everything worked as expected. It didn't take more than a few hours, and I think I'll be able to shave a few minutes off that because of some of the prepping I've been doing. I expect that everything will be done by Monday barring anything drastic happening. ''{Open to Cheat Commandos headquarters; a title which reads "'MOVIE NIGHT!' written by A. Chimendez Jr." appears. Cut to some Cheat Commandos at [[The Screen]].}''

'''CRACKOTAGE:''' Movie night is my favorite night. I think it is my favorite night. Hee hee hoo hoo!

'''SILENT RIP:''' Are you even trying anymore?

'''GUNHAVER:''' All right boys, time for a little R&R. Tonight we've got the old family favorite ''Pony Fights 2''!!!

''{the big screen cuts to the green rating screen. It says "THE FOLLOWING FILM HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR CERTAIN AUDIENCES BY SOME PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHAT'S BEST. IT BE RATED PG-13 FOR SEVERE CUSSING AND'' VERY ''ILLEGAL PONY FIGHTS.}''

'''EVERYBODY:''' Yay! Yeah!

'''SILENT RIP:''' All right! PG-13!

'''GUNHAVER:''' Uh, sorry Reynold, I'm afraid lights-out for you is at oh-now hundred hours!

'''FIGHTGAR:''' Yeah, all that cuss-language might give you nightmares. Ah-ha ha ha.

'''REYNOLD:''' Oh, I can handle it, why I can even swear a cuss myself! A-hem. Diaper biscuits.

'''OTHER COMMANDOS:''' Ha ha ha ha ha ha!

'''REYNOLD:''' Oh, I can't do anything right. I might as well go home and get teen pregnant.

''{The other commandos gasp, the Blue Las-Alert siren sounds once.}''

'''GUNHAVER:''' Easy there, Cheat Cuss-mando, you just made an inappropriate peer-to-teen choice behavior!

'''REYNOLD:''' A whaaa?

''{cut to the black and white Commandos in the Classroom logo, which looks like Reynold in a mortarboard cap pointing a pointer at an A+}''

'''ANNOUNCER:''' ''{singing}'' Commandos in the Classroom!

''{Cut to another black-and-white slide that reads "LESSON 4: INAPPROPRIATE PEER-2-TEEN CHOICE BEHAVIORS". At the bottom in fine print it reads "*TEACHERS, USE THIS TIME TO CATCH A NAP OR HAVE A SMOKE."}''

'''ANNOUNCER:''' Lesson four: Inappropriate peer-to-teen choice behaviors!

''{Cut back to Gunhaver and Reynold in Cheat Commandos HQ}''

'''GUNHAVER:''' Here, Reynold, lemme show you.

''{Gunhaver points the remote at the screen, which shows two ponies fighting in a field for a moment, then snows out to a diagram of a person's head showing the brain. The other commandos cheer for a second, then groan as the scene changes.}''

'''SILENT RIP:''' I was watchin' the ponies...

'''GUNHAVER:''' The brain is divided into two halves: ''{The brain in the diagram gets a jagged line down the middle}'' the good half ''{A dotted line points to the left half saying "GOOD HALF"}'' and the evil half. ''{A dotted line points to the right half saying "EVIL HALF.}'' The good half likes positive things, like Self-Esteem, ''{the word "Self-Esteem" appears in the middle of the screen and moves through the mouth into the "good" half of the brain.}'' Oreo Cheesecake, ''{again, the words appear and move through the mouth and up into the brain}'' Bringing Your Old Man a Cold One, ''{again, then cut to a close-up of Gunhaver}'' and all our playsets and toys. ''{Gunhaver smiles a big grin toward the camera. Cut back to the diagram.}'' But the evil half likes ''{as each of the next four words is said, is appears from the "evil" half of the brain and moves to the right side of the screen}'' Littering, Loitering, Latering, Lootering, and all the other stuff that causes inappropriate peer-to-teen choice behaviors! ''{The other words vanish and are replaced by "Inappropriate peer-2-teen choice behaviors".}''

''{Cut back to Gunhaver and Reynold.}''

'''REYNOLD:''' But how do ''I'' keep from making peer-to-teen choice awards, Gunhaver?

'''GUNHAVER:''' If you find yourself in a sticky ''{makes "finger quotes"}'' teenage situation, just remember these three pro-positive life tools:

''{Cut to Silent Rip in a classroom, next to a Blue Laser minion. Both appear to be taking tests.}''

'''BLUE LASER MINION:''' What did you get for number four, sir?

'''SILENT RIP:''' Uhhhh...

''{Gunhaver suddenly enters the screen from the bottom.}''

'''GUNHAVER:''' ''Freeze!'' ''{The screen cuts to a diagram of a male body with "PRO-POSITIVE LIFE TOOL" written next to it, and a giant "#1" appears next to it.}'' Pro-positive life tool number one: ''{Gunhaver appears on the screen}'' say you have one of any debilitating gold rush era diseases! ''{He pulls out a book labeled "BIG BOOK OF DEBILITATING GOLD RUSH ERA DISEASES", and "BBODGRED" on the spine.}''

''{Cut back to the classroom.}''

'''BLUE LASER MINION:''' Come on, man. I thought we were bros!

'''SILENT RIP:''' I can't! I have the typhoid! Or the cholera!

'''BLUE LASER MINION:''' Never mind. Your answers are gross, bro.

''{Cut back to Gunhaver and Reynold, the latter of whom is now wearing a false beard and a prospector's hat, and is holding a mining pick.}''

'''REYNOLD:''' Gold rush era diseases, eh?

'''GUNHAVER:''' Now you're getting it!

''{Cut to the supermarket, where two Blue Laser Minions are holding a lot of bottles labeled "WINE COOLA," some of them in their pants, and Fightgar is standing nearby.}''

'''FIRST BLUE LASER MINION:''' Hey, man. We need you to put these wine coolers down your pants... er, down your headband.

'''FIGHTGAR:''' Oh, um, uh...

''{Again, Gunhaver suddenly jumps onto the screen.}''

'''GUNHAVER:''' ''STOP!'' ''{The diagram of the body returns, but now, it's a woman's body. "#2" appears on the side and "EN SAP" at the bottom.}'' Pro-positive life tool numero two: ''{silhouettes of the two Blue Laser minions and Gunhaver appear with question marks over them. The minions are labeled "INAPPROPRIATORS"}'' Envision your Inappropriators ''{Gunhaver is labeled "STILL JUST YOU" and the minions turn into pizza slices.}'' as giant slices of pizza.

''{Cut back to the supermarket.}''

'''FIGHTGAR:''' Ah-ha ha ha! You're deep-dish! Ah-ha ha! And you've got extra cheese! Ah-ha ha ha ha! Oh, pepperoni!

'''FIRST BLUE LASER MINION:''' What's with this guy?

'''SECOND BLUE LASER MINION:''' He sounds crazy. Should we shoot him?

'''FIRST BLUE LASER MINION:''' Abso-total-lutely!

''{The second minion pulls out a large gun and aims it at Fightgar, who looks startled. The scene cuts back to Gunhaver and Reynold, who is now wearing a baseball cap and holding a bat, with a ball sitting next to him, and we can hear shooting over the next exchange.}''

'''REYNOLD:''' But Gunhaver, I've never had pizza before!

'''GUNHAVER:''' But you know what it looks like, don't you?

'''REYNOLD:''' ''{smiling}'' I think so!

'''GUNHAVER:''' Now you're getting it!

''{Cut to an alley next to a building labeled "Seedy Bar". Firebert walks by in the background, while the Blue Laser Commander is standing next to a building.}''

'''BLUE LASER COMMANDER:''' ''{Jumping out, holding up a candy bar}'' Hey, kid! Wanna smoke some candy with me?

''{The diagram of the body, which now appears to be a bear, appears over the scene this time. "#3" appears on the right. Firebert and Blue Laser Commander lean back to make room for the diagram}''

'''GUNHAVER:''' ''{voiceover}'' Pro-positive life tool number three: ''{The diagram and "#3" disappear, and Silent Rip appears from the side of the building and throws a smoke bomb.}'' Have your light infantry create a thick smokescreen. ''{The commander starts hacking and coughing, while Firebert pulls out a gun and shoots it at the commander.}'' Then lay down some suppressive fire until the snipers are in position. ''{He stops firing.}'' But look out for surface-to-air antioxidant missiles! ''{Firebert jumps out of the way as three missiles, labelled "100% GREEN TEA" and painted with skulls-and-crossbones, just barely miss the Commander.}''

'''BLUE LASER COMMANDER:''' Ah!

'''GUNHAVER:''' ''{voiceover}'' Then by the time Reinforcements shows up...

''{Reinforcements shows up.}''

'''REINFORCEMENTS:''' Hey, guys.

''{Cut to a screen with Gunhaver.}''

'''GUNHAVER:''' ...Your mom ''{an image of a station wagon appears}'' should be waiting for you in the bus turnaround! ''{Cut back to Gunhaver and Reynold.}'' So, do you think you're ready to make ''{more finger quotes}'' appropriate inappropriate whatever thingies now?

'''REYNOLD:''' Yes sir! I'm gonna get high on life!

''{Silent Rip walks up.}''

'''SILENT RIP:''' We're about to start the movie! You guys coming?

'''GUNHAVER:''' What do you think, Reynold?

'''REYNOLD:''' ''{thinks a moment, then grins}'' I've got dysentery!

'''GUNHAVER:''' Good job, little buddy! ''{pushes Reynold offscreen to stage left, then walks with Silent Rip to stage right}'' Man, I can't wait to see some serious pony carnage!

''{Cut to the Commandos in the Classroom logo again.}''

'''ANNOUNCER:''' ''{singing}'' Commandos in the classroom!

It says "THE FOLLOWING FILM HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR CERTIAN AUDIENCES BY SOME PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHAT'S BEST. IT BE RATED PG-13 FOR SEVERE CUSSING AND'' VERY ''ILLEGAL PONY FIGHTS.}''

'''EVERYBODY:''' Yay! Yeah!

'''SILENT RIP:''' All right! PG-13!

'''GUNHAVER:''' Uh, sorry Reynold, I'm afraid lights out for you is at oh-now hundred hours!

'''FIGHTGAR:''' Yeah, all that cuss-language might give you nightmares. Ah-ha ha ha.

'''REYNOLD:''' Oh, I can handle it, why I can even swear a cuss myself! A-hem. Diaper-biscuits.

''{cut to the black and white Commandos in the Classroom logo, which looks like Reynold in a mortar cap pointing a pointer at an A+}''

''{Gunhaver points the remote at the screen, which shows two ponies fighting in a field for a moment, then snows out to a diagram of a person's head. The other commandos cheer for a second, then boo as the scene changes.}''

'''SILENT RIP:''' Watchin' the ponies...

'''GUNHAVER:''' The brain is divided into two halves: ''{The brain in the diagram gets a jagged line down the middle}'' the good half ''{A dotted line points to the left half saying "GOOD HALF"}'' and the evil half. ''{A dotted line points to the right half saying "EVIL HALF.}'' The good half likes positive things, like Self-Esteem, ''{the word "Self-Esteem" appears in the middle of the screen and moves through the mouth into the "good" half of the brain.}'' Oreo Cheesecake, ''{again, the words appear and move through the mouth}'' Bringing Your Old Man a Cold One, ''{again, then cut to a closeup of Gunhaver}'' and all our playsets and toys. ''{Cut back to the diagram.}'' But the evil half likes ''{as each of the next four words is said, is appears from the "evil" half of the brain and moves to the right side of the screen}'' Littering, Loitering, Latering, Lootering, and all the other stuff that causes inappropriate peer-to-teen choice behaviors! ''{The other words vanish and are replaced by "Inappropriate peer-2-teen choice behaviors.}''

"#2" appears on the side and "EN SAP" at the bottom.}'' Pro-positive life tool numero two: ''{sillhouettes of the two Blue Laser minions and Gunhaver appear with question marks over them.

''{Cut to an alley.

''{Firebert jumps out of the way as three missiles just barely miss the Commander.}''

''{Cut to an image that reads "NEXT WEEK... LESSON 5: LISTEN YOU GUYS, YOU SERIOUSLY NEED TO START SHOWERING EVERYDAY"}''

'''ANNOUNCER:''' Next week, lesson 5: Listen you guys, you seriously need to start showering every day!
===Explanations===
*[[Wikipedia:Second audio program|SAP]] is an auxiliary audio channel for television that can be broadcast or transmitted both over the air and by cable TV. It is often used for an alternate language or descriptive video.
*[[Wikipedia:MPAA_film_rating_system#PG-13|PG-13]] is one of the film ratings used in the [[Wikipedia:MPAA film rating system|MPAA film rating system]].
*[[Wikipedia:Chicago-style pizza|Deep-dish]] (AKA "Chicago-style") is a style of pizza in which the pizza is much thicker than usual, sometimes even requiring the use of a fork and knife to eat it.
*[[Wikipedia:Typhoid fever|Typhoid fever]], [[Wikipedia:Cholera|cholera]], and [[Wikipedia:Dysentery|dysentery]] are bacterial diseases generally associated with the ingestion of drinking water contaminated by improper sanitation.
*"Wanna smoke some candy with me?" refers to educational films that crudely replace "inappropriate" things with "appropriate" things. For example, [http://www.eccpasa.info/vid_alc.htm ''The Cat Who Drank Too Much''] replaced alcoholic beverages with milk and water.
===Remarks===
*The title of the cartoon is "Movie Night," but when we see the headquarters, it's daytime.
===Trivia===
*The blackboard in the classroom sequence reads "ASSIGNMENTS", "TAKE TEST", and "STARE AT CLOCK UNTIL I RETURN".
*In the same scene as above, Silent Rip's test paper reads "Problem 4: Compare and contrast your two most favorite '[[Wikipedia:Jim_Varney|Ernest]]' movies. Show your work!"
*This is the first time Reinforcements is shown in his animated form, and also the first time he talks in his own voice.
*Currently this is the longest "Short" Cartoon on the website. In fact, it is longer than all but four of the non-short toons.

===Goofs===
*"Every day" is misspelled "everyday" at the end. In that context, it should be two words.
===How to add images===
Here's a quick rundown of how to add images:
#If you haven't already, read the [[HRWiki:Image_use_policy|image use policy]]. Note that the PNG format is preferred.
#Over in the toolbox on the left, click [[Special:Upload|Upload file]].
#(A) Browse to the file on your computer.<br>(B) Write a brief description in the summary area.<br>(C) Click the copyright checkbox.<br>(D) Click "Upload file".
#Place code on your page in the following format, usually at the very top of the page (although you can place it in other places):<br><code><nowiki>[[Image:IMAGE NAME|thumb and/or POSITION|SIZE|CAPTION]]</nowiki></code>

To make an [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Gallery|image gallery]], use the wollowing format:
:<code><nowiki><gallery></nowiki>
:Image:image1.png|caption 1
:Image:image2.png|caption 2
:Image:image3.png|caption 3
:<nowiki></gallery></nowiki></code>
Start each picture on a new line. You can use links and full wiki markup in the captions.

Click on these links here for a [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Picture_tutorial|tutorial]] and more [[MetaWikipedia:Help:Images and other uploaded files|technical info]] and [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Extended_image_syntax|syntax info]]. HRWiki policy allows [[HRWiki:User_page#What can_I_have_on_my_user_page?|one uploaded image]] per user with no questions asked. For an example, I placed the following code at the top of your page: <code><nowiki>[[Image:cheatgold.PNG|thumb|300px|I've got a gold tooth. Wanna see it? Tough!]]</nowiki></code><br>That's all. Have fun! &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 22:33, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
===How to revert a page===
*YO! I do like what you did to my gallery, but I'd like to revert it for the time being. I do want to change it to your suggestion in the future, though. But, um, how do you revert? [[User:Cheatachu72|Cheatachu72]] 02:56, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
:It was more complicated than normal to revert your page since you had already made changes to it. Here are some basic instructions on how to revert:

<div style="margin-left:2em;padding:6px;border:1px dashed #666;background:#F5F5F5">
:'''To completely revert a page to a previous version:'''
#View the history of the page in question.
#Click on the time and date of the version to which you want to revert; this will bring up the page as it was.
#Click "edit" at the top of the old version; it will warn you that you're editing an out-of-date version.
#Type a comment in the summary, usually something like "reverted edit of so-and-so; changed to last version by what's her face".
#Click "Save page".</div>

<div style="margin-left:2em;padding:6px;border:1px dashed #666;background:#F5F5F5">
:'''To revert a page and keep some changes at the same time:'''
#View the history of the page in question.
#Determine what changes have been made since the version to which you want to revert.
#Copy the affected section to the clipboard. If there is more than one section, it may be necessary to do a normal revert (see above) and then make the changes again one at a time in later edits.
#In the page history, click on the time and date of the version to which you want to revert; this will bring up the page as it was.
#Click "edit" at the top of the old version; it will warn you that you're editing an out-of-date version.
#From the clipboard, paste in the new changes over the appropriate old section.
#Type a comment in the summary.
#Click "Show preview" to ensure that you pasted the new changes in correctly.
#Click "Save page".</div>

:In the section way above, I've included the syntax for the image gallery for whenever you want to go back to that. &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 03:48, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
=== Where to link characters ===
I had a question. On the page for [[monster truck]], should "The Sad kids" and "The King of town" in the transcript be changed to include links to thier respective pages? FYI, the sentence that would be changed is "{The Sad Kids and the King of Town appear on screen respectively crossed out}". &mdash;[[User:Smileyface11945|Smileyface11945]]

:No. Characters are never linked in the transcript. Instead, they are listed at the top of the page in the order in which they appear. Also, whenever you post something on a talk page, type four tildes after it, like this: "<code><nowiki>~~~~</nowiki></code>". That will automatically sign your name and put a timestamp after it. It looks like this: &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 01:06, 24 Jul 2005 (UTC)
::I'm glad I could bring you two closer together. I have nothing useful to say here, but since this is my talk page, I feel compelled to comment. The character The Chort is speaking of is called the [[Wikipedia:vertical bar|vertical bar]], or pipe. It is used in wiki markup to create [[Wikipedia:Piped_link|piped links]], [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Table tables], and other things. As Amanda (H*C) said, the key is usually located at the extreme right of the keyboard, just above the Enter (return) key, grouped with the [[Wikipedia:backslash|backslash]]. On some keyboard configurations, the key is on the top row, just to the left of the Backspace (in this case the Enter key is about double its customary size and the Backspace is about half its normal size). To type a vertical bar, you must hold the Shift key. Well, I hope you enjoyed my short essay. :I welcome any help I can get. I don't know the best way to go about it. I figure we'll have to temporarily close the STUFF page so that people aren't trying to edit it while we're converting it. Also, I want to open the format up for others to test. I'm trying to get that done tonight. I think the format is really easy to use, but I ''made'' it, so there could be problems I'm not seeing. I'll leave you a note on your talk page when I have more to report, which shouldn't be too long from now. &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 03:48, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

:: In case you didn't notice, I've discovered what is causing the problem in STUFF. Not external links in and of themselves (notice that "The Legend of Credits" has an external link.) It's the fact that there was an equal sign in one of the links. Try plugging a random equal sign into any fact (link or no) and see what happens. --{{User:Jay/sig}} 07:59, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

If you're looking for a response as to the new STUFF's simplicity, I would say it is pretty easy if you follow the directions. I do have a suggestion, though. For the how to revise page you have the entire template out for cutting and pasting, but the initial template setup has the optional things on parts of it. It might make it easier to take the optional notes and the false user votes off of that template so it's easy to cut and paste the entire thing. That's what I think anyway. Other than that, I think the new system is great. --[[User:Some HSR themed username|Some HSR themed username]] 19:27, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I went ahead an implemented everything, including Protecting all the templates and DELETING!! all the test pages I could think of. If there are others I missed, feel free to TBD them. ===New STUFF Verdicts===

The new STUFF looks prooty good! One little quibble: it appears that the original posting dates were not included when the open STUFFs were ported. My real question is: how should a VERDICT'D STUFF look? -- [[User:tomstiff|tomstiff]] 13:12, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

: The date thing was my fault. Anyway, I guess that a VERDICT should be another template or two, and should be put in place of the arguments and votes. --{{User:Jay/sig}} 17:02, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

:: I fixed the dates. For verdicts, we can either move the items to the talk pages (like we do now), or they could be moved to a different subpage, like '''HRWIKI:STUFF Archive/pagename''', for example. If we use an archive subpage, we should put a reference link on the talk page with the fact in question and the verdict.<div style="text-indent:2em">As items close, they should definitely be ''moved'' somewhere. Otherwise, if down the line someone STUFFs something new from a page, all the old, closed facts will still be there. Once a template subpage is empty (all the facts have closed), the template subpage should be deleted. &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 17:13, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)</div>
Hey It's dot com, I just noticed that one of bottom 10's [[Template:STUFF/bottom_10|STUFF entries]] is not ever going to succeed due to the author's mistake. === Anonymous STUFFing ===
Okay, it's one thing to say that Anonnies can't VOTE in STUFF facts. It's another entirely to say that they can't CREATE facts; I'd taken it for granted that they could. --{{User:Jay/sig}} 18:18, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)
:The rules state: "You may only edit arguments while logged in." I would think that extends to creating items. If a user cares enough about an item, he can log in to create it. If an item truly is important, a logged-in user has probably already made it anyway. As for this particular item, it was such a stretch that it would have been deleted outright from the page. If you truly feel, however, that it needs to go through the process, resubmit it anew (but I've got a thousand dollars I would bet as to how the verdict will end up). &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 18:26, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)
:: Well, I don't disagree that it was a waste of space. I was more thinking about future reference&mdash;if someone actually adds a fact worth STUFFing. :::I'll admit, I threw it out on a technicality. A technicality I would probably overlook if it had ''any'' merit at all. Was it the same guy? How could multiple people make that mistake? And, as a result of your previous comments, I modified the "Add a toon/Add an item/Revise an item" instructions; now, all three say that you must be logged in. --{{User:Jay/sig}} 18:56, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)
::::: "Early," not "premature." When several users find multiple instances that directly contradict an item, it is patently false and therefore not worth our time. &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 18:59, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)

:Well, I started adding him, and then I got called away from my computer, and by the time I got back you had already blocked him. I ''did'' notice this, but since it's such a hassle to add somebody to the table (what with making a list of all their evil edits and whatnot) and since I had already gone to the trouble, I just hit "Save page" anyway. Plus, I figured if he did it again, there would already be a record there. (And yes, I know there's the blocked log.) Hello. Thanks for letting me know about the [http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/Talk:Strong_Bad_Email#Redirects discussion] regarding deleted redirects of the first two Strong Bad Emails. I was previously unaware of the accusations by Jay against me. By the way, may I call you IDC? It's an acronym of your username if you wouldn't mind me referring you by it. Thanks again. {{User:The Paper/sig}} 18:45, 19 Jul 2005 (UTC)
I alerted you to the discussion because I figured it pertained to you and therefore you could tell us why you thought it was better not to have the redirects. But if it wasn't you, then, obviously, you can't. Ah, well. I think the redirects are going to go forward (if E.L. Cool or others are still up to it).
Hey Dot com! Are you a baseball fan?--[[User:bkmlb|bkmlb]]

:I should probably add this to my user page sooner or later, but I'm a ''huge'' fan of baseball, and Major League Baseball in particular, and more specifically the Texas Rangers Baseball Club. I've got my trusty Rangers ballcap on right now, as always. I've been to several games this year and plan on more. I don't live in the Dallas&ndash;Fort Worth area, otherwise I would have season tickets at Ameriquest Field. I make up for it by keeping track of the team on TV, radio, and at mlb.com using Gameday, Gameday Audio, and MLB.TV. I mainly follow the AL (my second-favorite club is the Yankees), but I do like some NL teams: the Nationals, the Astros, the Mets, and (sorry) the Cubs, to name a few. Tonight, as it turns out, the Rangers topped the Orioles, 4&ndash;2, in Baltimore. Yay! &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 03:32, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Cool! You're only the second user I've heard of that is a baseball fan (other than me, there are two I've heard of). If you're not a ''huge'' cub fan then you won't bother me--and if you're not drunk, I'll be fine.--[[User:bkmlb|bkmlb]]

:Not a huge Cub fan, but I do pull for them as the perennial underdogs, especially now that the Red Sox have won it all. Even being a Yankee fan, when Boston was able to overcome a 3&ndash;0 deficit, when in Game 4 all Rivera had to do was put out the side in the ninth... well, at that point I was pleased to see the BoSox finally rid themselves of that blasted curse! Yeah. I know, the Cardinals lost. I went to game four of the World Series, I was sad *sniffle*. I remember there were lots of Red Sox fans around us. One guy was talking to his wife on the phone the whole time. When the Sox won, my dad asked this red sox fan next to us, "What will you do now? This is your whole Idenity." And the red sox fan said back, " What year is it 86 years from now?"
Also, in all seriousness, I appreciate your willingness to welcome new users. I think your &#9829; is in the right place there. (Side note: there's a link in your welcome template that says "me" but actually points to JoeyDay. Perhaps change "me" to "JoeyDay".)<div style="text-indent:1.5em">Remember that not everybody stays at their computer every minute of every day, so sometimes patience is required when waiting for a response. And it's an unfortunate fact that many of the users go unnoticed who do a lot of little but important things. It's like an umpire in baseball, who nobody pays any attention to when everything is going fine, but people rant and shout when a call is blown.</div><div style="text-indent:1.5em">A couple of pointers: whenever you're describing your edits, try to avoid emotionally charged words like "useless", etc. It's sufficient just to say "reverted such-and-such to version by so-and-so". Even better, try to find the good parts of an edit see if you can reword them so they fit into the article. (See [http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php?title=lunch_special&curid=1117&diff=108570&oldid=108569&rcid=55453 this edit] for an example.)</div><div style="text-indent:1.5em">To sum up, keep up the good work learning, gaining experience, and making quality contributions.</div><div>Sincerely,<br />[[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 03:20, 10 Jul 2005 (UTC)</div>
==The Process==
Hey, '''Dot com''', it's [[User:Thesmokingmonkey|The Smoking Monkey]]. As you seem both knowledgeable and up front about how things get done, I thought I'd come to you. Recently, I've been doing the whole recent change patrolling bit, and have come up with the following questions:
*Do all edits done by anonymous users need to be reverted? I've encountered a few that are correct or beneficial.
*Conversely, if a registered user makes a questionable edit (say, for example, adding a goof or remark that is open to debate), what would I do? I've reverted a couple, and I need to make sure this is within the rules.

Thanks for any input you might have.

:Well, Smoking Monkey, anonymous users are more than welcome to contribute. I daresay ''everyone'' (with the exception of the handful of people who actually set up the wiki) started out as an anonymous user. They often have insight or experience that are invaluable to getting to the bottom of an article. The reason we keep such a close eye on people who aren't members is that it just happens that most of the edits that are redundant, obvious, or otherwise non-beneficial come from anonymous users. The vast majority of trolls are anonymous as well. So, to make a long story short, '''do not ''automatically'' revert anonymous edits.''' (Note: if we wanted, we could prevent anonymous editing with a simple setting; obviously, we have not chosen to do this.)

:If a logged in user makes a bad edit, it can be reverted just like an anonymous edit. '''Logged-in users get a little special treatment, however.''' First of all, it's polite to list a reason in the edit summary instead of simply rolling back the page. Second, if an edit is borderline, strongly consider starting a discussion on the relevant talk page instead of simply removing another user's work.

:I hope this helps. Don't hesitate to ask if you have further questions. &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 17:02, 25 Aug 2005 (UTC)

::Understood. I don't want to be overzealous in reverting things - the last thing I want to do is step on toes and hurt feelings. But my "common sense" might not be so "common" to everyone. Trying to be careful as I go. -TSM

:::I just happened upon this discussion and figured I drop a word or two. My general rule of thumb is this: revert bad edits, keep good ones. Rewrite bad wording (there's *A LOT* of it). Have fun, be polite, but be bold! It's pretty simple, really! -- [[User:tomstiff|tomstiff]] 17:06, 25 Aug 2005 (UTC)

::::Thanks for the input! -- {{User:Thesmokingmonkey/sig}} 17:13, 25 Aug 2005 (UTC)

:::That's an excellent way to put it, Tom (I've always assumed your name is Tom... your user page has never said anything other than "Hello world!"). I'll probably steal your rule of thumb and not give you credit, just so you know. ;) To it I would add one thing: if you ever have legitimate doubt about whether an anonymous edit is good or bad, '''take the action that leads to ''more'' content.''' That is, if someone adds something but you're not sure, then just leave it. But if an anonny deletes something (especially something big) that you think has merit, put it back.
:::There's ''always'' more than one logged-in user looking at these pages, so it all usually gets straightened out in the end. &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 17:19, 25 Aug 2005 (UTC)
==[[:Template:sightingslist|New Template]]==

Thanks Dot Com, that color looks good. I'm just wondering about the centering. On the Email template (the one I modeled this one after), it's much larger, and fills the whole screen from side to side. This one doesn't, so on larger displays, such as mine, it's shifted to the left. Any idea how to center it? (And for the sizing, it's small on the Strong Bad Emails to save space. I don't think it'd be too bad to have medium font on this template, for easier reading and clicking). {{User:Thunderbird L17/Siggie}} 04:53, 31 Aug 2005 (UTC)<br>
:Er, I guess you haven't looked at the template again yet, because I already fixed the centering. All the other nav templates (SB email, answering machines, CD, DVD, etc.) use <nowiki><small></nowiki>, so I figured this one should, too. &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 05:04, 31 Aug 2005 (UTC)
==Free Country USA==

'''It's dot com''', it's your friendly neighborhood '''Smoking Monkey''' again. I just wanted to comment on the [[Free Country, USA]] thing earlier today, because I've made you my unofficial HRWiki mentor and seek your advice from time to time on Wiki matters.

In any case, what caught my attention was an anonymous user dumped, say, 50% more info on the Free Country article. I've noticed over the weeks that 90% of anonymous edits tend to be speculation, stating the obvious, or just plain wrong. Let's say the other 9% are helpful typo, spelling and grammar corrections. It's that 1% that leads to doubt. This guy/gal radically expanded a decent article, but I couldn't tel whether the expansion was worthy or not. I know I was previously advised to err on the side of expanded content, but I've seen even registered users get slammed for adding little bits of info to articles. This guy/gal added a lot, and when I first saw it, I balked. It seemed like speculation, so I reverted.

Then '''Mr. Bojangles''' re-reverted. I looked at it a second time - this time I saw disconnected thoughts that added only confusion - so I reverted ''again''.

Then '''you''' reverted my change, and I looked at it a third time. This time, I saw neither speculation nor confused thinking - only prose that needed refining.

I admit I've been in a bad mood recently, and have been, er, draconian in my enforcement of what I perceive is appropriate for the Wiki. I admit I was wrong reverting this article across the board.

Hopefully I made it up by actually adding to and trying to improve on the additions of the anonymous (and British) user - I got a little too caught up in making sure others play by the rules...

Faithfully patrolling the Wiki, {{User:Thesmokingmonkey/sig}} 00:26, 6 Sep 2005 (UTC)
:Your characterization of anonymous edits is probably dead-on accurate (except when pages are first being created, which isn't that often, relatively speaking). If someone has something important to add, they usually take the step of registering first. Most of my edits were relatively minor until I registered. In fact, it was when I was trying to add something more substantial that I was encouraged to join.

:I appreciate that you consider me something of a mentor, and I take seriously my responsibility to you and others I help. I carefully consider any advice I give, and it is always my hope that each user's experience here is improved by my input. This can't always be the case when someone disagrees with me, but in cases like that I try to be as diplomatic as possible. As far as anonymous users go, I try to incorporate any part of their contributions that I can&mdash;anything&mdash;so that they will feel important and be comfortable enough to finally become full contributing members.

:In ''this'' specific case, you may notice that I didn't do a straight revert, but rather cleaned it up a bit before adding it back.

:If there's anything else I can help you with, you know I will. Besides, we 28-year-olds have to stick together. &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 01:42, 6 Sep 2005 (UTC)

::I see you're taking your critical, incisive eye to my runway pet project ([[Free Country, USA]])- and it's about time. Of all the times I've proof-read, and internally debated the structure and the "facts" of the article, I knew that others would need to parse and improve on my own thoughts. And, speaking of my own thoughts, all I have to thank for my (irrational?) devotion to this article is some anonymous British kid I tried to censor.

:Hey Rogue. That troll is not a person; rather, it is some kind of bot that searches for the different sections on the page and adds links under each one. My reasoning was that if I removed all the sections, it would have nothing to do, and would quit. In the meantime, I put up a notice so that any regular user who was looking at the page would be aware of what was going on. I don't know whether my actions actually did anything, or whether it was just coincidence that the attack stopped (almost) at that point. ==About my user name==
My first experience with homestarrunner.com was, appropriately, the [[First Time Here?]] page. About fifteen seconds into the intro, Homestar utters his classic line: '''"Oh,&nbsp;right... homestarrunner.net: ''It's&nbsp;dot&nbsp;com!"'''''
<small>(You may notice on the First Time page that the text appearing on the screen is misspelled "Its dot com" (without the apostrophe). I got it right for my user name and in the image on the right, because everybody knows that if you want it to be possessive, it's just "ITS," but if it's supposed to be a contraction then it's "I-T-apostrophe-S." Scalawag.)</small><br style="clear:both;"/>
*'''STUFF reform'''<br/>After a ''lot'' of planning, [[HRWiki:STUFF|STUFF]] went live on June 17, 2005. It's been over two months now, and things are still going smoothly. *'''My first page'''<br/>[[Rock Opera Context]] was the very first page I created for the Wiki. Don't think for a moment that I did the whole thing myself &mdash; it was a HUGE group effort. But I was the one who set up the page, created the link to the email [[rock opera]], established the general format, and got the ball rolling on filling in the words. As the page was shaping up, I helped fix things here and there whenever necessary. One of my favorite things about the page is that as you read each line, you can remember and enjoy the essence of all the emails in the space of only a minute.
*'''110 sbemail redirects'''<br/>We decided create [[Strong Bad Email]] redirects like this: [[sbemail1]] &rarr; [[some kinda robot]]; [[sbemail2]] &rarr; [[homsar]]; and so on. ''I personally set up 110 in thirty minutes!'' (There were 133 emails at the time, if you wonder. And for you math majors out there, I did an average of one every 16.4 seconds. Man, I was ''flying''.)
*'''New email styles'''<br/>I didn't [[Talk:Strong_Bad_Email#New_email_format...|come up with the idea]] or make the graphic, but I had some good input once the idea was rolling. When it came time go go live with the styles, I personally converted the most emails to the new format (Jay and I each did almost exactly half, but by my count I barely edged him out). I made sure to do at least one from all three computer eras, and I think I did ''all'' the Tandys. I also did the special cases in [[the bird]], [[weird dream]], [[anything]], and [[other days]].

A running gag is an ongoing joke whose humour is primarily derived from its repetition. The Cheats Head exploding is the best example of this. The best example of an inside joke is [[Lemke]] because quite frankly even with TBC explanation it really is only funny to TBC. I really take issue with something like [[The S is for Sucks]] being an "inside joke" because it really raises the question of "Who is inside/outside?" If the delineation lies between hardcore HSR fans and casual fans, that is not good enough for me. Everything on the site is an inside joke to someone who hasn’t watched it yet. I'm still not sure how to categorize articles like [[Batman]] which do a great service in tracking multiple references, but strictly are not a running gag or an inside joke. In the Peasant's Quest game, if you repeatedly use the crank, the game mentions exercising your "Deltoidus Rex" muscles. In the DVD-only cartoon, "Tis True, Pom-Pom, Tis True," Strong Bad claims he broke his "clavicus majorus." Both are examples of messing up the name of a body part (deltoids and clavicles, which are, ironically, both found in the shoulder) by adding the stereotypical Latin suffix "-us" to the end and then adding another latin word. This should be worth mentioning, but I don't know enough about wiki's to do it myself. Anyone wanna lend a hand? Or a boxing glove?
This should be worth mentioning, but I don't know enough about wiki's to do it myself. Anyone wanna lend a hand? Or a boxing glove?
Is it just me, or is saying "what?" something of an inside joke not only for 1936 but also in the modern day? 1936 Homestar says it frequently in Parsnips-a-plenty as well as the ballad for the sneak. What, exactly, is the difference between an "Inside Joke" and a "Running Gag?" Or rather, what's the wiki's decided definition of them? Just for future knowledge, y'know. -- [[User:Queenie-C|Queenie-C]]

They are kind of meta-articles. [[User:Drhaggis|<nowiki></nowiki>]]- [[User:Drhaggis|Dr Haggis]] - [[User talk: Drhaggis|Talk]] 12:37, 18 Jan 2005 (MST)
