Anyone else out there think TBC may not exactly be movie history buffs? I mean, I'm definitely not, but I know this:
*The first successful talking picture, "The Jazz Singer", was released in 1927.
*"Steamboat Willie", the first suncessful cartoon with synchronized sound, was released in 1928.
*By 1933, the time when the silent Homestar cartoons were supposedly released, talking pictures were common, and by 1936, the time that the first talking H*R cartoon supposedly came out, silent films were on their swift way out, if they weren't already nonexistent.
*Using their current formula, any old-timey H*R cartoon released next year will be dated 1938... but in actuality, the next year, 1939, saw such movies as "Gone With the Wind" and "The Wizard of Oz", which would definitely be considered modern films, as compared to the more revolutionary, experimental days of the 1920s.

:Agreed that we need a standard, and small images would be great. Perhaps this page can even be a table or matrix of small images that shows characters on one axis and time on the other. But this page seems to be developing slowly enough that I don't think it's anything we need to worry about that kind of formatting yet. I can't find anything about this in the user guide.. but you know in the external links section of writeups, and in other places, how it puts that icon after the link (a blue box with an arow coming out)? :I'm voting against it. Opening a link in a new window is almost pretentious, as if the site you are on should have the power to not let you leave. Modern browsers like Firefox will let you open a link in a new tab when you want to go elsewhere by middle-clicking your mouse, and users are used to doing that when they want to stay on the current site. Furthermore, Firefox by default doesn't open new window links in new tabs, which annoys me to no end. I would say that an offsite link should behave like a normal link, so as not to confuse the user, and that opening a link in a new window should be a perogative of a web application that has a good reason for not taking you offsite. An example of this would be Hotmail, which opens links in a new window to keep you logged in unless you explicity log out. Most users of this site won't be logged in, and they'll be expecting the wiki to behave like like a normal website. So I saw leave it the way it is, and let the user control where his links pop up. If the icon is confusing, change the icon. [[User:Render|Render]]
What about if it's a logged-in-user user preference? Sometimes the Brothers Chaps recreate the entire cast of the website in an alternate style. This section is for tracking and organizing all of the variations of the main characters.

There are also complicated narrative modes on the site. Strong Bad often answers "What If" questions in his emails, which leads to minor variations on normal characters. Anything created by The Cheat has a very rudimentary flash style. Puppets are sometimes used in lieu of animation. The 100th Strong Bad Email deliberately uses an animation style which matches some of the earliest work of the Brothers Chaps. The [[1936]] version of [[Marzipan (character)|Marzipan]] seems almost identical to the current version, though she's a little weird looking. She has two pony tails instead of one and her face is shaped less like a baseball bat. She is a friend of [[The Homestar Runner]]. We don't know if they have the same relationship they do in the modern world.

Stickly Man challenges Stinkoman to combat, and procedes to unleash his best stick-fu in a wonderful tribute to the many stick figure kung-fu animations available on the Internet.

Also known as the "ARROWED guy" and the "CHILDREN man." This is the guy who constantly kills members of the [[Teen Girl Squad]]. He appears in every issue and has a distinctive voice and a huge mouth. His many professions include an archer, a truck driver, owner of a Pan-Asian Cuisine stand, a brain mech pilot, ship captain, and a judge. The ways he has killed the Squad members are as follows:

*Teen Girl Squad Issue 1: In his first appearance, he ARROWED [[The Ugly One]], right after she admitted to having a crush on every boy.
*Teen Girl Squad Issue 2: He doesn't actually kill one of the members, but runs over [[So and So]]'s new boyfriend with a CHILDREN truck.

Sometimes the Brothers Chaps recreate the entire cast of the website in an alternate style. This section is for tracking and organizing all of the variations of the main characters.

There are also complicated narrative modes on the site. Strong Bad often answers "What If" questions in his emails, which leads to minor variations on normal characters. Anything created by The Cheat has a very rudimentary flash style. Puppets are sometimes used in lieu of animation. [[1936]] is era from which the Homestar cartoons allegedly originate. The toons from this period are in black and white with grainy footage, and the characters look and sound different from their modern-day counterparts, and often have slightly different personae.

The earliest film in this era, a series of 22 second shorts called [[Kick the Can]], is actually dated [[1933]].

[[The Homestar Runner]] of 1936 is [[Mike Chapman]]'s favourite character in the entire Homestar Runner universe. Mike thinks he's a lot smarter and aware of what’s going on than modern-day Homestar.

Ok, #1 is done you should be able to start over. As for #2, it sounds like you are trying to connect to a server that doesn't exist. (the servers should all exist, at least they did this afternoon). What browser and os are you using? -((Stu))

You are going to need a program that can create animated gifs. I don't know of any of the top of my head, but you can certainly find them using a search engine such as google. Just type in something like "animated gif creator" or something like that, and start from there.

I used to use a free one called [http://www.whitsoftdev.com/unfreez/ UnFREEz]. It's an extremely simple program. It can't actually do any graphic editing; it just uses pre-made GIFs. You just drag-and-drop your GIF frames into the program, specify how fast you want it to play the frames, hit save, and you're in business. It works like a charm. Hope this helps. --JoeyDay

It's a part of !TikiWiki's functionality that we don't use. Basically you have a category page (!StrongBadEmail would be a good candidate) and in its code there's a special tag that lists pages that are a part of that category. The trouble is, it doesn't work terribly well and doesn't actually do very much. All it does is make the pages in the category appear in the !BackLinks for the page (the list of pages you get when you click on the big red title at the top of a page). But in !TikiWiki the !BackLinks are all but useless, because it just does a text search. Which isn't anything like a real !BackLinks search. Yet another reason we'll be upgrading to Twiki soon.

But if you really want to learn about it, I recommend checking out the !TikiWiki documentation. -- InterruptorJones

I suggest having a look at the latest versions of !TikiWiki - 1.7.x and 1.8.x definitely are using categories in a much more useful way. !BackLinks implementation also seems to have been improved quite a bit. -- Frankieboy

I'm not really sure what either of you are talking about. The engine we're currently using isn't called !TikiWiki, it's called !WikkiTikkiTavi, or 'Tavi for short. Here's the big picture, though: (1) We've got oodles of space, therefore !KevinDuBrow's userspace is not burdening us in any way; and (2) Kevin hasn't done anything against universally accepted wiki civic policy -- on what grounds should/could we ban him? If you really want to do something about this, I suppose you could simply delete his userspace. But what if he does decide to start contributing someday? That's a good question. It's going to be a bigger project than I had originally hoped. I hate to say this, but maybe never. Whenever I make a page and type in a link, when I edit the page from that link and save it, it doesn't save. It just comes up with a blank screen with nothing on. And when I attempt to save again it comes up with a message telling me to tell the editor or something. Please help?

That happened to me once in my Text Adventure. I thought the title was to long. For example, using Marzipan!/ask Strong Sad, it would be better to put /1|Marzipan! and then /1|ask Strong Sad. I still don't understand the appearance of the little blue question mark. It seems to be showing up randomly. Specifically, note my recent revision to ((Marshie's Malloween Mix-Up/EasterEggs)). I said something about the Nintendo !GameCube and I think the Wiki system assumes it's a link of some sort, but it's not. And look, there it is again, magically. The wiki system treats words with two or more of its letters capitalized as !WikiWords, and automatically links them to the appropriate page. For example, typing HomestarRunnerWiki automatically links to the front page. Since there isn't a !GameCube page on the site, it puts the question mark there because it can't find the page to link to. Putting an exclamation point in front of the word while editing will disable this feature for that particular word (example: !HomestarRunnerWiki is not linked here).

This mysterious character appears to be the chief evildoer of [[stunt double|Dangeresque 2: This Time, It's Not Dangeresque 1]]. He's played by [[Bubs]] wearing a monocle and holding [[The Cheat]]. He makes a heavy lourde fall on [[Dangeresque]], and calls him "Danger Skew."

This villain is a possible reference to Dr. Evil from the "Austin Powers" movies, or Ernst Blofeld from the "James Bond" movies (Evil bad guy-type with a furry pet-thing under one arm).
