'''Homestar Runner''' (middle name possibly [[Halloween Potion-ma-jig|Michael]] or [[time capsule#Commentary Transcript|Hal]]) is the star of his website namesake, but he probably doesn't realize it. Ever the butt of jokes and the recipient of [[Nicknames#Homestar Runner|nicknames]], Homestar is an earnest character with a clean heart and nothing but love for the rest of mankind. Unfortunately, his absolute cluelessness and clumsiness keep him from realizing his full potential. He's not completely stupid, though, and has proven to be remarkably clever in the past, though such occurrences are few and far between. You can never be quite sure whether or not he and [[Marzipan]] are going out, but he sure seems to think they are. According to the toon [[Marshmallow's Last Stand]], he weighs about one hundred pounds.

Homestar is the star athlete on an unspecified sports team led by [[Coach Z]] and keeps it that way via vigorous workouts, as revealed in the [[Strong Bad Email]] [[dullard]]. He is also the colonel (which is always pronounced phonetically) of the inactive [[Homestarmy]], while his best friend remains [[Pom Pom]]. He has some speech impediments (as he says, he has "twouble with his aw's"), and appears to have short-term memory problems, as he frequently forgets things he has just done or said, (for examples, see the [[Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 12.2|12th Answering Machine]] or [[Homestar Presents: Presents]]). He also tends to "borrow" things from (and return things to) [[Strong Bad]], for example, [[Strong Bad's Fondue Pot|Strong Bad's fondue pot]]. Though he [[Lack of Visible Arms|lacks a visible pair of arms]], he is still able to function as though he has them, being able to carry and throw things and even type proficiently. It's generally accepted that either he ''does'' have arms, but for reasons that are never explained, they are invisible, or that he has limited telekinetic powers. He frequently uses two-syllable exclamations, like "Hi-Ya!", "Highball!", and "Ah-tpoo!".

Although he is often the target of pranks by Strong Bad, Homestar believes that he is friends with Strong Bad and tries to win his favor, often with bad results that Homestar completely misunderstands. As a whole, Homestar seems to be too dim to realize when people are being mean to him, or when he's being mean to other people. He often unintentionally insults his friends or steps on their feelings and is unable to understand their resulting feelings of anger. Another quirk of Homestar is his ability to be easily outsmarted at his own game, and still be completely oblivious and even happy. As Strong Bad put it in email 124, [[secret recipes]], "It's like, even when we win, he wins."

Presently, Homestar works at an unnamed tech company with Strong Bad and [[The Cheat]], but has frequently dabbled in the entertainment industry. He made several [[Fluffy Puff Commercial|commercials]] for [[Fluffy Puff Marshmallows]] along with the product's mascot, [[Marshie]]. He is also the host of an obscure game show named "[[The Show]]", has co-starred in [[Dangeresque]], sung several hit singles such as "[[Everybody Knows It]]", "[[Puppet Jam: Bad Jokes|Bad Jokes]]" and other jams with [[They Might Be Giants]], and "[[montage|Party Party Party]]", revealed that he is considering a career in [[crying|male modeling]], and also guest starred in an episode of [[Caleb Rentpayer]] (in which he shot Caleb). *Homestar's eyes are quite strange. There are many theories about how they work:
**Sometimes they seem to move around his head. Most of the time they're like a flounder's eyes, but they switch sides of his face whenever he turns. In the [[Old Intro 2]], you can sort of see Homestar's eyes moving as the camera circles around him. Also, in [[Theme Song Video]], the currently absent toon [[Marshmallow's Last Stand]], the old version of [[In Search Of The Yello Dello DVD|In Search of the Yello Dello]] and the [[Homestar Runner and Strong Bad Screensaver|Homestar Screensaver]], you can see his face from the front, which further lends credence to this theory.
***It's possible that his eyes are merely on the front of his head, but we usually just get a side profile to make it appear that he's not looking directly at the camera. This, along with the star on his shirt being slightly off to one side, is similar to the rules of proportion and line of sight first develoved in Baroque art. This could also explain why his eyes appear to "move" in the previous theory: the angle of his face that we view changes, so the distance between his eyes change based on our viewpoint, rather than his eyes actually physically moving. (Front views have rarely/never been used outside of [[Old Intro 2]], possibly because his off-to-one-side profile appears to be more funny).

== Homestar's Shirt ==

His shirt seems to most resemble a red skirt with a white star on it. The star can be removed, but Homestar wears it as a mark of pride. Other than his propeller cap, it appears to be his only piece of clothing, as his questionable [[Homestar's Pants|pants]] are a mystery. He also wore a gray version of the shirt (still with a star) in [[impression]] while doing a bad imitation of [[Strong Sad]].

In the original script for [[flashback]], Strong Bad wore a similar shirt until Marzipan gave one to Homestar (to replace his Duckie Shirt). After this point, Strong Bad would have ripped off his shirt, explaining why he never wore one to this day.

Homestar's relationship with Marzipan seems tenuous at best and has deteriorated as the episodes progress. Though Homestar insults her, often without meaning it, and Marzipan breaks up with him frequently, they seem to patch things up in between. Homestar's idiocy seems to be charmed as well as charming, as evidenced by his lucky gift of wire cutters in [[Homestar Presents: Presents]]. It is unclear how their relationship started, but they do seem to care about each other, if only a little bit.

Homestar even appears to miss and need Marzipan's badgering every once in a while. When she was out of town in [[Happy Fireworks|July of 2005]], he carried around a [[Cardboard Marzipan|cardboard cutout]] version of her and provided a voice for it. The cardboard version still made similar comments about violence and Homestar's poor grammar that the actual Marzipan would have, providing Homestar the presumably cathartic opportunity to say "Shut up, Marzipan." Even Homestar's relationship with the "Cardboard Marzi" was tenuous, though, as he voiced her flirting with other men (and The Cheat).

Strong Bad may also have a Homestar-like telekinesis as demonstrated in the Holiday special [[Pumpkin Carve-nival]]. Strong Bad owns his own country, [[Strong Badia]], a barren field behind the [[Wikipedia:Dumpster|dumpsters]] that is completely devoid of any sentient life.

Strong Bad talks a big line, claiming to be a criminal mastermind, a [[Exaggerated Strong Bad|muscle man]], and totally popular with the [[Strong Bad's Ladies|ladies]], though there is little evidence of any of these claims, but no shortage of evidence that they are all untrue. Strong Bad refuses to acknowledge this however, and continues unfazed with his delusions of grandeur. He thinks Marzipan likes him when in fact she "[[marzipan|really doesn't like him at all]]." He seems to have a grudge against [[The Birds|birds]], as shown in issues of [[Teen Girl Squad]]. He also loves to listen to Peter Frampton, [[Limozeen]] and [[Taranchula]]. There is highly conflicting evidence towards Strong Bad's supposed strength. For the most part, it was continuously implied that Strong Bad is actually very weak and out of shape and that "Strong Bad" was merely his name and not an accurate description. But in the Strong Bad Emails "[[car]]", "[[old comics]]", and "[[secret identity]]", Strong Bad demonstrates the ability to punch Homestar's lights out and literally toss both him and The King of Town out of his house, thus condradicting this claim. However, In the email "[[lady fan]]", the idea of Strong Bad being a weakling is supported yet again when he is unable to do a single push-up, and states that he used to be able to do four. It is possible that, like Homestar's "[[Lack of Visible Arms|arms]]", this fact may be purposely ambiguous, or that Strong Bad really is a complete weakling!
