:No. Characters are never linked in the transcript. Instead, they are listed at the top of the page in the order in which they appear. The character The Chort is speaking of is called the [[Wikipedia:vertical bar|vertical bar]], or pipe. It is used in wiki markup to create [[Wikipedia:Piped_link|piped links]], [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Table tables], and other things. As Amanda (H*C) said, the key is usually located at the extreme right of the keyboard, just above the Enter (return) key, grouped with the [[Wikipedia:backslash|backslash]]. On some keyboard configurations, the key is on the top row, just to the left of the Backspace (in this case the Enter key is about double its customary size and the Backspace is about half its normal size). :: In case you didn't notice, I've discovered what is causing the problem in STUFF. Not external links in and of themselves (notice that "The Legend of Credits" has an external link.) If you're looking for a response as to the new STUFF's simplicity, I would say it is pretty easy if you follow the directions. I do have a suggestion, though. For the how to revise page you have the entire template out for cutting and pasting, but the initial template setup has the optional things on parts of it. It might make it easier to take the optional notes and the false user votes off of that template so it's easy to cut and paste the entire thing. That's what I think anyway. I went ahead an implemented everything, including Protecting all the templates and DELETING!! all the test pages I could think of. If there are others I missed, feel free to TBD them. To what extent should we do fact checking. The reason we keep such a close eye on people who aren't members is that it just happens that most of the edits that are redundant, obvious, or otherwise non-beneficial come from anonymous users. The vast majority of trolls are anonymous as well. So, to make a long story short, '''do not ''automatically'' revert anonymous edits.''' (Note: if we wanted, we could prevent anonymous editing with a simple setting; obviously, we have not chosen to do this.)

:If a logged in user makes a bad edit, it can be reverted just like an anonymous edit. '''Logged-in users get a little special treatment, however.''' First of all, it's polite to list a reason in the edit summary instead of simply rolling back the page. In any case, what caught my attention was an anonymous user dumped, say, 50% more info on the Free Country article. I've noticed over the weeks that 90% of anonymous edits tend to be speculation, stating the obvious, or just plain wrong. Let's say the other 9% are helpful typo, spelling and grammar corrections. It's that 1% that leads to doubt. This guy/gal radically expanded a decent article, but I couldn't tel whether the expansion was worthy or not. This guy/gal added a lot, and when I first saw it, I balked. It seemed like speculation, so I reverted.

Then '''Mr. Bojangles''' re-reverted. I looked at it a second time - this time I saw disconnected thoughts that added only confusion - so I reverted ''again''.

Then '''you''' reverted my change, and I looked at it a third time. This time, I saw neither speculation nor confused thinking - only prose that needed refining.

I admit I've been in a bad mood recently, and have been, er, draconian in my enforcement of what I perceive is appropriate for the Wiki. I admit I was wrong reverting this article across the board.

Hopefully I made it up by actually adding to and trying to improve on the additions of the anonymous (and British) user - I got a little too caught up in making sure others play by the rules...

If someone has something important to add, they usually take the step of registering first. Most of my edits were relatively minor until I registered. In fact, it was when I was trying to add something more substantial that I was encouraged to join.

:Hey Rogue. That troll is not a person; rather, it is some kind of bot that searches for the different sections on the page and adds links under each one. My reasoning was that if I removed all the sections, it would have nothing to do, and would quit. In the meantime, I put up a notice so that any regular user who was looking at the page would be aware of what was going on. I don't know whether my actions actually did anything, or whether it was just coincidence that the attack stopped (almost) at that point. :Sorry for the delay in responding. I might suggest that you would get a faster reply by posting questions to the [[HRWiki_talk:FAQ|FAQ talk page]]. Anyway, it's possible to recreate the blockquote style outside the wiki, but you need to know some CSS and where to find it. First of all, the HTML (<nowiki><blockquote> ...blah blah ... </blockquote></nowiki>) is the same as the code you get when you press "edit", so you could just copy one of those to practice. What you need then is the various definitions for "email" found in [[MediaWiki:Monobook.css]] (and possibly other CSS files... check the source code of a wiki page to see what they are). :    If a comment really is a continuation of an earlier thread, then go ahead and piggyback, but if it's a new thought, then it's perfectly fine to (and I prefer that you would) start a new thread. :) I reorganize my talk page from time to time and it helps me keep everything straight. As for archiving, I'm probably gonna put it off for at least a little bit longer. Only recently has this page exploded to the point that archiving would be necessary. If you want to see a page really in need of being split, look at [[User talk:Tom|Tom's talk page]].

:Oooo! May I? (answer this one?) Making templates and new pages is really easy. So I hope I can explain well. First things first, new pages. All you need to do to create a page is to go to it and start editing it. Make sure you save the page, so it actually writes something down to create the page! Suppose you wanted to create a page called "strombalos" under your user space, then you'd go to [[User:notstrongorbad/strombalos]] (notice how it's in red now -- if you click on it now it'll take you straight to the edit page), and start adding information. It's that simple! You can even (from your user page) type the new URL yourself and start it that way. As for templates: all you need to do for the basic form is to put regular wiki code. There is more on templates that you can learn [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Template here], cuz they have neat stuff like variables and the like. There is more general help [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Section here]. Now for your specific case, you want to make a welcome page for our guests. I won't go into detail here, but you must use the template format in a special way. Suppose you had a template [[User:notstrongorbad/welcome_template]] in that page. Then you inject the code: <code><nowiki>{{subst:User:notstrongorbad/welcome_template}}</nowiki></code> into the victims', er, guests page and hit submit. ==Regarding the Article of the Day==

Thanks for the image revert. I probably should have discussed the choice of image earlier, but hindsight is 50/50. I didn't exactly have my heart set on any one image, since the one I came up with originally was a different one altogether. I could see an edit war happening with this feature, what with like 50 images to choose from. I just wanted something easy to make out and understandable, that embodied the early Fanstuff, particularly drawings (since they don't usually feature those anymore). *The [[HRWiki:2005 Fall Pledge Drive|Pledge Drive]] was a time to encourage users to donate money voluntarily to help pay for the wiki's costs (explained in that link). It's a way of raising money that some organizations use over here, especially [http://www.npr.org public radio]. We didn't raise as much money as we had hoped; discussion about that is at [[HRWiki_talk:2005_Fall_Pledge_Drive#Looking_ahead]].
*We had to stop letting people register as users, or edit pages if they weren't users, because of an attack by a vandal who used [[HRWiki:NSMC vandal|over 1,000 usernames]] to vandalize pages.
*By the way, I'm not sure which internet browser you're using, but [http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ FireFox] has a [https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&category=Languages&numpg=10&id=68 plugin] that lets you click on a word to look it up in an online dictionary. When we upgraded to MediaWiki 1.5, it introduced a bug in the way the system handles the new messages indicator. Currently, the only way to get the message to go away is to click "unwatch" at the top of your page. This is necessary even if you yourself are the one who edits the page. I realize Rainer put a lot of effort into the time zone table, but it's incorrect. It lists the times for New York as 4:00pm–8:00pm, with a note (way down at the bottom) that you should add an hour in the summer. But this is not true—If I read correctly what Joey wrote, then it will ''always'' be 5–9pm ET, regardless of whether the U.S. is currently observing Daylight Saving Time. Therefore, one could say that the schedule is based on ''current continental American time'', not Universal Time (UTC). In other words, the chat is from 21:00 to 1:00 when ''the United States'' is observing Daylight Time, 22:00 to 2:00 when it is not. While it may not have been much of a problem when we were all out of school, Monday nights are now less optimal than other nights, inasmuch as everyone requires their sleep on that night in preparation for Tuesday. However, I'm not here to state the obvious. My proposition is that we change the formal chat party night to Friday. In addition to the length everyone can stay up, another point still stands: on a Monday, one has to not only get to sleep on time, but do homework. On Friday, one can do homework or save it for the weekend. As such, Friday would probably be a much more ideal night for the parties. I'd hope that I share this belief with others... if you do, share that below, please. Both. We still have relatives from N.O. staying at our house. That's how I was (am) affected by Katrina. I didn't get it bad from Rita. The Astros had the same problem tonight that plagued them the whole year: stellar pitching backed up by no run support. I've figured out that what Homestar turns into at the very end depends on what "essence" you get from Strong Bad, Strong Mad, and The Cheat. "Essence of Doo-Doo Meringue" results in Tofu Homestar, "Essence of Strong Mad's Finger Dipped in a Glass of Warm Water" (or however it went) gives you a Marzipan with really bad teeth and a weird voice, and "Essence of Gullibility" leads to classy French Homestar. Someone might want to double check this just to make sure, though -- I only went through it 4 times.

As someone who's done a little basic programming, I know one of the EASIEST ways TBC might have made this system work. Each option you select has a value attached to it, either 1, 2, or 3. When you select it, it gets added to a total value, at the end, your total value decides the transformation. This means that each set of choices probably has one 1-point option, one 2-point option, and one 3-point option. This is supported by the fact that some of the encounters seem to have a "best" choice, such as doing a dance for Bubs or getting the Ghost Water (outlined in the ingredients) from Coach Z. When you click on one of them, it moves to a different spot in the file and plays the appropriate mini-scene. You can't click on the characters because there are no buttons in these frames. When the mini-scene is done, it goes back to the costumes frame. To insert Homsar into the scene, they just created a sprite with him in it and overlayed it at the end. The sprite is the same whether you're looking at the costumes frame or one of the mini-scenes, which is why it behaves the same way in both instances (just like Homestar's eyes blink even when the file is paused).
