I don't think Strong Bad actually knew that forward compatible was a real term--I think he was skewing backwards compatible. Before reading this page, I assumed he had made it up.
However, this conflicts with the idea that Strong Bad is technologically impaired, as backwards-compatible electronics have really only become an issue with new generations of gaming consoles. Is this the second time that the distinction between Bubs and Coach Z has been blurred by Strong Bad? (1st time being the Coach B/Zubs project from ''current status'') Have there been other times this has happened? Has the line ever been fuzzy for other characters too? Is this just a reference to the Coach B/Zubs Project or an emerging inside joke?

Perhaps it is coincidence; however, your first example is just Homestar being confused-- something that happens all the time. Your second is a fact: Homsar IS a midget version of Homestar turned blue. Coach Z is not a green version of Bubs (nor is Bubs an orange version of Coach Z), and clearly Strong Bad is not confused as was Homestar in ''the facts''. This gag was very deliberate; The Brothers clearly had Strong Bad say "Bubs? Green Bubs?" Then they reinforced the reference within the easter egg (I wonder how Bubs & Coach Z knew about it?) *We have a long tradition of giving a sentence-or-two summary of the relevant parts of a Wikipedia article. On the other hand, if the user wants more in-depth info, the link is right there for them to keep reading.
