In the first scene, before Coach Z walks up, the crayon Strong Bad smokes (or pretends to smoke) is emitting smoke like a real cigaret. However, as soon as Strong Bad points out it's fake, there is no more smoke to be seen. The thing where the mascots run around the field seems to be a reference to the Miller Park (Milwaukee baseball) race where various hot dogs, sausages, etc. run a lap around the field. I'd put the reference up myself, but I don't have the time to look stuff up.

Just so there isn't a big debate over this... the song sung while the mascots run around the field ISN'T "Yakety Sax", the theme from Benny Hill. This is a piece of music called "Bond Street" (I believe?) composed by Burt Bacharach for the 1967 version of 'Casino Royale'. As I noted in my edit, this is the same music used for Stewie's "sexy parties". -Steve
