I find it hard to believe that there's no mention that the word "style" is often used. I know there's more, but a quick few instances I can think of off the top of my head are Price Style, Sample of Style, Styles upon Styles, "Strong Bad gots the Style", "stylish jig", "you can't handle my style, no you can't handle my style", "Get out of here, Nebulon! No one likes ''your'' style", Uncle Strong Bad's Flavor Taste Style Chewing Powders, "The Cheat that it's the latest style!", Strong Bad's Buffalo Style Ranch, Hairstyle Runner... In [[gimmicks]], Strong Bad combs back what looks like hair coming out of a burnt hole in his mask. In [[marzipan]] Strong Bad quickly combs the top of his wrestling mask with a small pink comb. Perhaps A lesser gimmick currently of Homestarrunner is the fact that Strong Bad actually has hair beneath his mask. Should there be a page for this? Also, in [[disconnected]], you can see the bottom of Strong Bad's head when he's rolling along--not well, but enough to see it's solid. I'm pretty convinced his mask is his head. Following that, the Brother Chaps have also said [[Flashforward 2006 Seattle - 28 Feb 2006#Pre-animation Process - 4:05 p.m.|one of the emails they will never answer]] is "what do you look like without your mask on?", which, although arguable, is proof in ''my'' book. To round it out, he's also grown a [[theme park|very fine moustache]], which'd be pretty hard to do through a mask. What is with Homestarrunner and singing. It seems like every time he hears a song he sings it and he also likes to sing about bread. What do you think. These sightings contain: [[origins]] when he has his bread sing alongs, [[monument]] in the easter egg where he sings the thnikkaman song, [[bottom ten]] with the buttdance song,and [[The House That Gave Sucky Treats]]. ::I think the question is, "why is the image on this page Homestar Running, when that isn't a running gag?" In short, there were too many edit wars about which image should be used, and so the generic Homestar Running image was used. It seems to like the unnecessary adding of an "S" to a word is a huge running gag on the site. I think it needs a page.

::I don't think it's a running gag — [http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/Special:Search?search=vague&go=Go searching for vague], I only found three uses: [[coloring|a "Vague Pigmentation" crayon]], [[looking old|"eStrong Vague Online Investments"]], and [[space program|one other use in a sentence]]. The other appearances are just text within our articles, not quotes from Homestar Runner features. Vague is a pretty common word, and I don't think it appears enough to warrant special attention. :There's [[Old-Timey Ghost]], but that was really a one-off; and then a couple Halloween toons had ghosts ([[Homestarloween Party]], [[Pumpkin Carve-nival]]), but ghosts are par for the course on Halloween. So... doesn't seem so in my opinion. {{User:GreenHelmet/sig}} 17:16, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Well, I've been wondering if perhaps 'Bad Acting' could be added to the list of running gags. That is, when the characters try to act, but are horrible at it. Examples might include the Decemberween Pageant, or the skit with the most recent email. Seems a sort of a parody of bad amateur stage productions.

An internet friend and I were discussing the HRWik the other day, and we both reached a consensus: if there isn't one already, there should be an innuedoes section of the HRWiki. You know the kind; things like "The Cheat and I are down here shenanigan-ing each
other in the dark alone by ourselves" (your edge). After search, there wasn't any innuendo section that I could see, so I thought I'd bring it up here.
I wasn't too sure where to put this, so if this needs to be moved, I respect that.

I think there should be an explanation about Coach Z's use of the slang Benjamins, but I can't figure out how to phrase it. Just as a side-note for people who run into the same problem I did: if you use a program that blends its own Javascript functions into every page you load (mainly found in ad-munching software, like Ad Muncher), make sure you disable it BEFORE installing the Greasemonkey script. == Refresh Subtitles ==
OK, this feature will need some explaining... First, go Tools→Manage User Scripts, click on "Homestar All-in-one" and click "Edit". If it asks you to choose a text editor, just pick Notepad unless you have something better. It'll look ugly in Notepad (it doesn't recognise the line endings) but it'll work. Now search for <code>if (settings.testsubs && false)</code> and change it to <code>if (settings.testsubs && true)</code>. Now you can use the feature. First you have to turn on "Test subtitles" and hit "Save and apply" as usual, but the next time after the page loads there'll be a "Refresh Subtitles" button below the text area, that re-parses the subtitles without reloading the page - invaluable to subtitle authors.

The reasons the option's not avaliable by default are:
*The interface is clumsy... sometimes the button's there, sometimes it's not there... depending on whether the test subtitles were already enabled before the page loaded... given it's something that's supposed to update stuff without a page load it can be confusing.
*It's not exhaustively tested, and has some weird side-effects (it calls <code>savesettings</code>, so if you, say, turn off the seekbar and hit "Reload Subtitles" the seekbar will remain, but it'll save that you want the seekbar turned off)...
*It's not permanent... Version 4.0 will hopefully make it so that ''all'' settings work like this, and clicking "Save and Apply" won't have to reload the page.
So it's there if you want it, but it's not cluttering up the settings boxes of people that don't want it.

:By design, if subtitles are turned off, the script doesn't contact the wiki at all. When you turn the subtitles on, it tries to download the [[Subtitles:Languages|list of supported languages]] then. The list is empty until that finishes (I suppose I should put a "Loading..." message in there...). So wait a bit, see if it turns up. Failing that, it is a nightly build after all, you should expect some things to be broken... the name "Minefield" isn't just for show... chances are, it's a problem with either <code>GM_xmlhttpRequest</code> or <code>DOMParser</code>... and if so, then it's either a Firefox issue or a GreaseMonkey issue, and there's little I can do about it. {{User:Phlip/sig}} 03:15, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

== Tablet stuff ==

Hey, this is a really neat script. Anyway, I use a tablet computer, and I've noticed that, when viewing a toon in portrait (tall) mode, the toon will cover up the top two buttons ("settings" and "wiki") if the script is set to scale the toon to full size. This is, I imagine, because the script expects the screen to be wider than it is tall, as most computer screens are... so when that is not the case, the toon sticks around the top of the page and covers up those key buttons. This doesn't happen in normal, "landscape" mode because the toon is horizontally centered across a wide screen. If the toon were vertically centered as well, or at least nudged sixteen pixels downward when on a tall screen, those buttons and their inherent usefulness would be unveiled for all. ("Landscape" mode is, of course, the better option for viewing Homestar Runner, but I think this would be a pretty good fix nonetheless.)

There are some other things: in Firefox 3.0 beta 4, the seek bar extends too far to the right, visually (covering up the buttons to its right), and does not seem to work for changing your place in the toon. Also, the script never seems to be able to load subtitles, perpetually leaving "loading" in place of subtitle options in the pulldown menu. Oh, and the "settings" bar has most of its scrollbar obscured by the toon, oddly, though it still works.

:This has nothing to do with the high framerate (which is 24 anyway, not 30), and everything to do with the fact that the HTML file is on homestarrunner.com, but the flash file is on Telltale's servers... Flash's security gets in the way, and there's nothing that can be done about it. Best I can do is make it so that the seekbar is disabled on that toon (or, at least, make it more obvious that it's informative only, and you can't use it to control the playback). :Oops... I didn't think to regression-test the changes in Fx 2... yeah, that doesn't work. The deal is that, in an earlier version of GreaseMonkey, DOMParser wasn't available for GM scripts to use... and you had to use some workaround to get at it. That workaround didn't work in Fx 3, but the site I got it from listed another option that did. Turns out that other option doesn't work in Fx 2. It also turns out that the workaround isn't necessary at all any more. Things were happening in the wrong order... the tooltip and the page it would send you to if you clicked matched, but the URL in the status bar was from the previous selection... I tweaked the timing a bit, so this doesn't happen any more. :It's pretty simple... just convert the picture to PNG (I use The GIMP for that... any web-friendly image format will work, but PNG is best), then [[Wikipedia:Base64|Base64]]-ify the PNG file (I just use the tool in [http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/i386/coreutils coreutils]), and tack "<code>data:image/png;base64,</code>" on the start, then use the string as the URL for the image. Wikipedia has [[Wikipedia:data URI scheme|more info]]. :This may vary (it's been a while since I used Gnome), but I believe that alt-Print Screen grabs the focused window, and Print Screen by itself grabs the entire desktop. It will either prompt you for a filename to save it as, or just save it automatically on your Desktop. == Test subtitles script and back button ==

I do a lot of subtitle work (the AIO makes it about a million times easier/possible, BTW :) ) and so I often use the "Test subtitles script" feature to preview my scripts before I save 'em. The problem is that I usually forget to uncheck the box, so when I go to another toon, it displays the wrong subtitles. Not a big deal, of course, as I can go into the options and uncheck the box, but it's an annoyance. It'd be nice if it automatically unchecks the box. Possibly make it uncheck when you load a different toon. 
Also, if you have outside-the-frame action enabled and press the back/forward button (in the browser, not the next/previous button) to go to a page, it loads it full-screen instead of showing outside-the-frame action. 
Oh and BTW I just noticed there's a feature to zoom in/out of the toon when it's full screened, but not when it shows outside-the-frame action. Can you add that feature in outside-the-frame mode, too?

:As for the zoom buttons and outside-the-frame, if you use the Zoom things in Flash, then it stops doing the outside-the-frame thing... you can't zoom out further than how it behaves when you view the SWF alone (ie: either the height or width matches the height or width of your window, whichever is smaller)... and there's no way to go back to the outside-the-frame mode except by resetting it to the usual outside-the-frame size. I couldn't find any way around this... so I just got rid of the zoom buttons when that option's turned on. I should probably also note that when it's zoomed out after going back/forward, I can still see outside-the-frame action, but of course since it's already full-screen, I only see it on the edges (instead of being like the normal full screen mode that puts black on the sides, this allows vision on the sides).

There is a character that comes from Italy wanting to be J-Lo's fiance, and he greets McCaughnehey's character (named Steve) like this. The tonation, accent, and voice quality is pretty exact. ::Thanks for the help. I re-watched the movie to see if I could find the quote, and it wasn't in the Sonoma part, but instead toward the end at City Hall. My DVD player had it at 1hr 35min into the movie. Steve gets out of a taxi and Massimo (the guy who wanted to be J-Lo's fiance) says his name a few times to call him over. It's not as exact as I thought, but there is a verrry strong resemblance in the way Massimo says "Steve" to the "Eh Steve" in HR. He actually says "Hey Steve" but it's really really close. :I must be old. We used this term to describe an activity sheet that was given to the whole class. Most of the time it was just busy work, but sometimes tests were given from the "teacher's edition" of the textbook for that subject. We called them dittos because they were just mass copies. Of course, I also was a substitute teacher earlier last year, and the middle school kids had no idea what I was talking about when I said "here's a ditto to do", so maybe it's fallen out of common language by now.

:Exactly, it's copies of a worksheet (or test) made on a ditto machine, which is what schools had before copiers and printers got so affordable. The process was kind of like silkscreen printing. The ink was pale purplish-blue. It stank of some weird solvent, and when the pages were fresh they were heavy with an alien dampness.

My remark on the age of the teen girls was deleted. My reasoning is this: If they were thirteen in 2002, then they would have been sixteen in 2005 for the sweet-somethingteen birthday party in TGS 10. It seems that, by intention or happenstance, the teen girls are actually following something of a coherent plotline. I think that pointing out the fact that they would be graduating high school is interesting and worth thinking about, if only because it means that the TGS will fail to qualify for the "T" in their title in a scant year. We like to reconcile facts with in-universe explanations when we can, and we note when things don't quite line up from toon to toon, but overall we know that H*R canon is a very loose concept that TBC only take seriously when it's funny to do so. I don't think that the word canon is well-defined in the Explanations given the comic's context. Even so I don't think canon applies to costumes unless it's part of the story for the character to have a specific one. :I concur...Matt does deliver the line using extremely similar intonation to much of Larry's dialogue, but I don't think it was a specific reference to Limozeen. Matt's done so many lines in so many voices, naturally there'll be a few lines of dialogue that, although spoken by different characters, sound alike. Graebner Memorial High School Handbook of Rules and Regulations]], a novel (later adapted for television) in which one character converts to many different religions in order to skip classes on their various holidays. (The book also mentions dirty P.E. uniforms, used as an excuse to evade exercise in P.E.)

I'm Strong Bad's generation. And I read the book - it's hilariously funny, by the way, and well worth your time if you enjoy TGS. If you had read it, you'd certainly find the "several religions" comment at least "reminiscent" of the book. (If you haven't, how can you judge the similarity?) Personally I think coincidence is a *less* likely reason than deliberate reference for this specific excuse showing up in such a similar context, but how do you figure it's not "reminiscent"?

::I said I was done, but that's the other point I forgot: I sought out the TV version because I loved the book, even though I was a bit old for it. (The book's far better.) But I'm a bit older than 30, too. They could easily have seen it on purpose, if not channel-surfing. And the book was good enough and popular enough to be televised - they could easily have read it.
:::"Against my religion" is really an old joke. I've heard it several times before in various contexts. Example, "I can't tip, it's against my religion." :::Of course "against my religion" is an old joke. What's distinctive here is having *more than one* religion for it to be against. That's the whole point. The uniforms alone don't mean anything, but if the religions line reminds you of the book, other elements of the scene certainly contribute to the resemblance.

: I've never heard any significant differences between the voices of the TGS, and in fact the concept that some on the Wiki have that they have different voices seems less funny to me than the identical voices I hear.
