:I'm really tired of these suggestions for running daily FAs. Most of the time, the suggested daily articles usually important enough to be featured for the entire week or too short to be noted at all. The emails noted here are a good example of this problem. [[guitar]] or [[techno]], for example, are very important emails, and should get a week by themselves. In fact, any of the suggested emails should get an entire week. ::Well, your position is definitely noted. I don't think we do dailies all that often. When we do, it's due to a strong theme and a series of strong contributors to that theme. I would agree that the two emails you cite, along with several of the others, ''could'' get a week to themselves. The fact that they all reside on the nomination list and have never been featured is conspicuous. And this also delves into why we feature articles in the first place - is it to give every article its due, or to give the visitor their due? I think a week of dailies compels the visitor to return, to maybe get active. I think they are good things for the wiki. I can see how others might argue to the contrary, and that's cool. Well, I stopped in to see how things are going today. I've been quite busy with school and other things, but I do have some time at the moment. I added a general statistics section. I'm also about to upload the Time Spent With Each Computer chart someone suggested. As far as adding arrows to the scatter plot goes, it's possible, but would require adding all the labels by hand. As there are about 15 outliers, not only would it be time consuming but it also might get a bit messy. Perhaps just a label for the outliers with the highest residual and lowest residual? I believe this section (and all remarks related to it in the individual email pages) should be deleted, as proof can be highly questionable and [http://clamburger.org/misc/web%20comics.png easy to fake] (not accusing anybody here, but it's possible). Well, I stopped in to see how things are going today. I've been quite busy with school and other things, but I do have some time at the moment. I added a general statistics section. I'm also about to upload the Time Spent With Each Computer chart someone suggested. As far as adding arrows to the scatter plot goes, it's possible, but would require adding all the labels by hand. As there are about 15 outliers, not only would it be time consuming but it also might get a bit messy. Perhaps just a label for the outliers with the highest residual and lowest residual? Well, I stopped in to see how things are going today. I've been quite busy with school and other things, but I do have some time at the moment. I added a general statistics section. I'm also about to upload the Time Spent With Each Computer chart someone suggested. As far as adding arrows to the scatter plot goes, it's possible, but would require adding all the labels by hand. As there are about 15 outliers, not only would it be time consuming but it also might get a bit messy. Perhaps just a label for the outliers with the highest residual and lowest residual? As for wiki-fying some of the graphics: at the very least one of the graphics can be wikified: [[:Image:SBESTimeSpentChart.png|SBESTimeSpentChart.png]] doesn't need all that text on a picture, and can instead be turned into text for [[Strong_Bad_Email_Statistics#Total_Time_Spent_Using_Each_Computer|this]] section with the static graphics used in the original picture. That is probably the easy part. I seriously doubt that this wiki has dynamic code generation implemented for security reasons. My guess is that the best bet to do this is have a template of sorts which a local program (such as a Perl Script) can generate the appropriate wiki code that can be cut and pasted onto the real page. This would at least allow on-the-fly recreation for most of the data once a new email is released. The hard part is then making those graphs. However I do think that there are command-line programs that would let you make them, but they'd likely look different from the excel versions seen now. This would also flood the file history with new uploads (not necessarily a bad thing). It might be more feasable if this graph is updated every 1 or 2 months based on SBE frequency. Regardless, some local scripting would make the job a lot easier. Once I get the Excel files i'll play around with things and see what I can get. It seems like all of these charts and graphs are produced by hand and then converted into PNGs. That seems like a really tedious process. Well, I stopped in to see how things are going today. I've been quite busy with school and other things, but I do have some time at the moment. I added a general statistics section. I'm also about to upload the Time Spent With Each Computer chart someone suggested. As far as adding arrows to the scatter plot goes, it's possible, but would require adding all the labels by hand. As there are about 15 outliers, not only would it be time consuming but it also might get a bit messy. Perhaps just a label for the outliers with the highest residual and lowest residual? As for wiki-fying some of the graphics: at the very least one of the graphics can be wikified: [[:Image:SBESTimeSpentChart.png|SBESTimeSpentChart.png]] doesn't need all that text on a picture, and can instead be turned into text for [[Strong_Bad_Email_Statistics#Total_Time_Spent_Using_Each_Computer|this]] section with the static graphics used in the original picture. That is probably the easy part. I seriously doubt that this wiki has dynamic code generation implemented for security reasons. My guess is that the best bet to do this is have a template of sorts which a local program (such as a Perl Script) can generate the appropriate wiki code that can be cut and pasted onto the real page. This would at least allow on-the-fly recreation for most of the data once a new email is released. The hard part is then making those graphs. However I do think that there are command-line programs that would let you make them, but they'd likely look different from the excel versions seen now. This would also flood the file history with new uploads (not necessarily a bad thing). It might be more feasable if this graph is updated every 1 or 2 months based on SBE frequency. Regardless, some local scripting would make the job a lot easier. Once I get the Excel files i'll play around with things and see what I can get. Well, I stopped in to see how things are going today. I've been quite busy with school and other things, but I do have some time at the moment. I added a general statistics section. I'm also about to upload the Time Spent With Each Computer chart someone suggested. As far as adding arrows to the scatter plot goes, it's possible, but would require adding all the labels by hand. As there are about 15 outliers, not only would it be time consuming but it also might get a bit messy. Perhaps just a label for the outliers with the highest residual and lowest residual? As for wiki-fying some of the graphics: at the very least one of the graphics can be wikified: [[:Image:SBESTimeSpentChart.png|SBESTimeSpentChart.png]] doesn't need all that text on a picture, and can instead be turned into text for [[Strong_Bad_Email_Statistics#Total_Time_Spent_Using_Each_Computer|this]] section with the static graphics used in the original picture. That is probably the easy part. I seriously doubt that this wiki has dynamic code generation implemented for security reasons. My guess is that the best bet to do this is have a template of sorts which a local program (such as a Perl Script) can generate the appropriate wiki code that can be cut and pasted onto the real page. This would at least allow on-the-fly recreation for most of the data once a new email is released. The hard part is then making those graphs. However I do think that there are command-line programs that would let you make them, but they'd likely look different from the excel versions seen now. This would also flood the file history with new uploads (not necessarily a bad thing). It might be more feasable if this graph is updated every 1 or 2 months based on SBE frequency. Regardless, some local scripting would make the job a lot easier. Once I get the Excel files i'll play around with things and see what I can get. It would be nice if we could a) enable uploads for .xls files so anyone could update the Excel file and re-upload it at will, and b) include all charts (and necessary data) inside the Excel file, so the person updating the data can also update the charts on this page. It seems like all of these charts and graphs are produced by hand and then converted into PNGs. That seems like a really tedious process. Have you guys ever considered using some automated chart generator where you just have a stored set of data that is grabbed to dynamically generate charts and graphs? :Because not every article is up to snuff yet. Also, there is very little to write on some articles, especially [[:Category:Lists|list-based ones]]. Further, we'd probably run out fairly quickly if we did articles every day instead of every week. We only have about 1900. :Currently there isn't. The current template ({{tl|Podstar download}}) is just for creating external links in articles.
