== Biography ==
'''Homsar''' is perhaps the strangest and most enigmatic of all the [[Characters#Main characters|primary residents]] of the [[Homestar Runner universe]]. He was originally created as a result of a typo in the [[Strong Bad Email|email]] [[homsar]], in which Vinnie C. asked, "If you hate homsar so much, why don't you kill him?" (Presumably, Vinnie had actually meant to type "[[Homestar Runner|Homestar]]".) [[Strong Bad]] promptly dropped a [[Heavy Lourde]] on Homsar and left him for [[Death|dead]]. [[The Brothers Chaps]] later decided to keep Homsar as a main character, and they brought him back in an Easter egg in [[The House That Gave Sucky Treats]] and in [[Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 5.0]], where he thanked [[Marzipan]] for the flowers she sent him while he was in the hospital.

Homsar occasionally makes brief appearances in various cartoons, often in Easter eggs (and has even been referred to as the "secret guy"). In every [[Holidays#Halloween (October 31st)|Halloween toon]] since his introduction, Homsar has appeared in an Easter egg somewhere in the middle of the Toon. (This is usually triggered by clicking somewhere on or near [[The Poopsmith]].)

Homsar doesn't have very many friends other than [[Strong Sad]] and Marzipan. Most of the other characters generally regard him as a nuisance. In particular, Strong Bad seems to dislike him the most; he states in [[interview]] that he would rather gnaw his own leg off than talk to him for 3 seconds. [[Bubs]] apparently refuses to talk to him, as evidenced in [[Where's The Cheat?]]. Despite his unpopularity, he serves in the [[Homestarmy]] and occasionally attends parties where the other main characters are present. He enjoys playing board games with Strong Sad, and has organized his own activities, such as a [[tree hugging]] concert and the play "[[stupid stuff|Butt's Twelve by Pies]]" (starring Lighting and Set Decoration). He ran the Merch Masala on the [[Cool Tapes]] tour in [[Weclome Back]] and played a [[Wikipedia:Theremin|theremin]] in Strong Bad's band in [[Baddest of the Bands]].

In the email [[interview]], Strong Bad, using a pen puppet, claimed that Homsar was "raised by a cup of coffee" (also mentioned by the narrator in Strong Badia the Free when you take over the homsar reservation "raised by a cup of coffee indeed"). In [[fan club]], Homsar proclaimed that he was "the son of a [[Wikipedia:Chipwich|Chipwich]]", and an Easter egg revealed a photo of a cup of coffee and an ice cream sandwich labeled "Homsar's Parents".

Homsar was the winner of a month-long sales competition between himself and Senor Cardgage for the title of [[Non-Sequitur Champion]]. The topic was brought up in [[fan club]], and the loser had to complete a coherent thought as punishment on Homestar Runner's [[The Show]]. ==Distinctive Characteristics==

===Speech===
Homsar's most distinct characteristic is his unusual manner of speaking, which has varied over time. His tone of voice is generally quite exaggerated, and he often begins sentences by wailing "DAaAAaaAAaaAAaa!". His speech tends to range from perfectly normal English to often random and disconnected phrases that have little to no connection to the scene. Many believe that Homsar speaks in [[Wikipedia:Word salad (mental health)|word salads]] (a speech disorder characteristic of [[Wikipedia:Schizophrenia|schizophrenia]] in which grammar and sentence structure is often intact, but the words themselves have no particular meaning), but a [[Analysis of Homsar's Speech Patterns|detailed analysis of his speech patterns]] has shown that this is seldom the case. Instead, it seems that Homsar can and does relate well to his environment and other characters when he needs to, but is also prone to saying completely random things when there's no particular reason for him to stay in context.

It has been argued that his unusual speech patterns are the result of being crushed by the Heavy Lourde. This could be evidenced by the fact that in [[homsar]], he is able to speak "normally" to Strong Bad. Some find this unlikely, considering that he was able to speak more or less normally when he called Marzipan after that event. Others suggest that it is possible that the negative effect was a delayed reaction.

As shown in [[DNA Evidence]], he can make his voice sound like a whole crowd of people, even when he is alone. In [[Happy Dethemberween]], he and Strong Sad demonstrate that he can also make chiming noises when hit on the head.

In ''[[Strong Badia the Free]]'', Strong Sad describes him as speaking an entirely different language altogether. Strong Bad briefly gains complete understanding of Homsar's language by utilizing a nearby "pylon". He is the only one who understands Homsar, however (as evidenced by a quick view of the conversation from Strong Sad's perspective, in which Homsar not only sounds normal, but Strong Bad is speaking in word salads as well), and at the end of the conversation, the pylon is destroyed, ending Strong Bad's ability to understand him. This version of Homsar has a distinctly different voice (Strong Bad describes it as "soothing"), and quite visibly understands everything that's going on around him in a very coherent manner, though he also has a tendency to talk a lot.

===Homsar and the Laws of Physics===

Another bizarre aspect of Homsar is his ability to defy the laws of physics through means that are not entirely explained. In many cases it would appear that Homsar can bend reality to his will, performing feats that other characters cannot. Various feats of science defiance include levitation (as demonstrated in [[narrator]], his [[Homsar#Character Video Transcript|character video]], [[A Folky Tale]], [[Halloween Fairstival]], [[the paper]], [[Strong Badia the Free]], [[Baddest of the Bands]] and [[mini-golf]]), self-duplication ([[Fall Float Parade]] and [[Happy Dethemberween]]), making a paint brush ring like a bell ([[Homestar Presents: Presents]]), possible time manipulation ([[3 Times Halloween Funjob]]), teleporting ([[for kids]]), possible metamorphosis (as seen in [[impression]], though this hypothesis is disputed), retracting his head like a turtle ([[Happy Hallow-day]]), creating the sound of a crowd ([[DNA Evidence]]) or chimes ([[Happy Dethemberween]]), morphing/bending terrain (Homsar homepage), and can possibly cause (or at least reflect back) the [[jibblies]] ([[Jibblies 2]]). On top of this, Homsar's yellow [[bowler hat]] can levitate and float around, as well as transmute into different shapes (e.g an engineer's cap as seen in his [[Homsar#Character Video Transcript|Character Video]] found by pressing the "eject" button on the VCR of the characters page). It is possible that this hat, which levitates when Homsar speaks (including when he is upside down, as in [[cliffhangers]]), is actually being manipulated, as opposed to just flying about on its own. Homsar is, after all, a character [[Lack of Visible Arms|lacking visible arms]]. However, Homsar's solo in the music video [[One Two, One Two]] involves his hat flying farther than arms on a character his size would allow. Another theory for this is that Homsar, and quite possibly the other characters lacking arms, have limited psycho-kinetic abilities. Indeed, it appears that the laws of both science and logic do not apply to Homsar. Homsar also has pigeon-toed feet that move incredibly fast, but his movement is very slow.

In [[Strong Badia the Free]], after the "secession", Homsar lives in a place called the "Homsar Reservation." Everything in this location seems to defy the laws of physics as much as Homsar himself. Examples of this phenomenon are floating and moving rocks, ripples in the sky, and a strange rock structure with the ability to make others understand his language. Strong Bad is also seen defying the laws of physics by floating like Homsar whilst the rock structure is in full effect.

===Similarity to Homestar Runner===
In terms of general appearance, Homsar bears a striking resemblance to [[Homestar Runner]]. Although he is grossly exaggerated, pigeon-toed, and more curved, he and Homestar share [[Wikipedia:Prognathism|underbites]], clothing style (a hat and shirt), feet style, shading, and skin color. As he was originally a misspelling of "Homestar", it is logical that Homsar is somewhat of a badly-drawn Homestar. Strong Bad remarks upon this in the email [[for kids]], where he refers to Homsar as a "blue midget Homestar". Homestar himself even calls Homsar "Homestar" in [[looking old]]. In [[Baddest of the Bands]] Strong Bad calls him "you misspelling" and when Homestar is impressed with him, curses the letters E and T for preventing him from being as cool as Homsar.

===Naming of Other Characters (and Himself)===
Homsar often assigns the other characters, including himself, strange names. This could be because he has forgotten their real names, is confused, or disregards their real names. These "names" are sometimes based on the character's appearance (Strong Sad: That Rhinoceros) or a similar-sounding name (Bubs: Tubbs). When asked for an Autograph for Homsar by [[Strong Bad]] in [[Baddest of the Bands]], Marzipan signs herself, "Matzah Ball", indicating that is what he calls her. One might reason that the the epithet is used due to the fact that both monikers have the same starting letter and amount of syllables. Others (Strong Bad: Reggie) hardly make sense. This is assuming that he is speaking to/about these characters and that he is not just disoriented or believes he is talking to someone else. His way of naming may also be used to describe how a character looks at the time, like when he called The Cheat "chocolate cake" when The Cheat was covered in [[whatsit]]. Homsar also thinks up strange names for himself, such as "Homsar, the captain of the gravy train", "the human wedgie", "a friendly reminder", "A knock-knock joke about jogging suits", and "a song from the '60s". Homsar doesn't seem to repeat any of his made-up names, in keeping with his tendency to forget or disregard things or become confused. Homsar has also been named by others, like when Homestar called him "the secret guy" or when Strong Bad referred to him as "America's favorite blue midget Homestar".

===Walking===
Whenever Homsar walks, he makes a peculiar fluttery noise, although this sound effect is not present in [[Strong Badia the Free]]. Some other characters have also [[Sound Effects#homsar walking|made this noise]].

*A few days after the "Track" trailer was released, it was edited with the following known changes:
**The blocking in many scenes was slightly different.
**Strong Bad's original first line was "All right, Homestar, the time for our ultimate throwdown of total death-tiny has arrived! Put 'em up!"
**At three points in the dialogue, (before "A race?", before "Did someone say pwahty?", and before "All this race talk...") a choice box appeared above Strong Bad's head. A cursor chose which topic Strong Bad would discuss the first two times, but just closed the box the third time.
**A very slight difference in Homestar's expression is added after Strong Bad decides to "postpone" Homestar's pummeling. When Homestar responds by asking "Pummeling?", Homestar's eyes squint in an angry way. This does not occur in the first version.

Whenever Strong Bad reaches an email milestone, such as 100 or 200, the email will be special or at least some note will be taken. Thus far, five emails have been considered milestones.

*100. [[flashback]] — The email is done in widescreen. [[Marzipan]], [[Senor Cardgage]], [[Old Timey Strong Bad]], and [[Limozeen]] congratulate him on his 100th email. Upon the Compy indicating that he has checked 100 emails with a special screen, Strong Bad says "email" 100 times. [[Homestar]] says "Happy 100th birthday, Strong Bad".
*125. [[rock opera]] — features scenes and at least one word from all of Strong Bad's emails.
*150. [[alternate universe]] — Strong Bad goes into many alternate universes featuring alternate versions of himself, which at the end accompany him in a supergroup ballad. Called the "sesquicentennemail".
*200. [[email thunder]] — The email song is a grand fanfare written by [[They Might Be Giants]] and sung by [[The Poopsmith]]. The email also ends with a screen listing all of the emails to date.

Frequently, a "teaser" toon is released a week before a milestone email in order to play off the anticipation for the upcoming milestone. The band will start rocking — with pretty miserable results. Homsar and the King of Town just weren't made for rock concerts. DÖI is way behind in the rankings, too. Strong Bad quickly realizes that the only way he's going to win this concert is if everyone else is sabotaged! Fortunately, sabotage is something Strong Bad excels at.

All the old areas except the House of Strong (and The Track, if you forgot to pick up the hanger from in there) will be removed from the map for now. In their place will be the stages for all four bands. Also, your main inventory has been cleared of everything except the Microphone, Metal Detector, Bleach, Camera, and Hanger. You don't need any of the other items any more, though.

All of the stages will have a cardboard cutout of Limozeen next to them.

Just a few days ago I was doing my daily web surfing and I came upon Tvtome/Tv and looked up my favirote cartoon One Piece. Oooh! Oooh! Now it's time for "my two cents about Reynold!" (''sound of muffled trombone''). I think TBC were simply trying to come up with an inappropriate behavior for Reynold to be chastised about - the phrase "get teen pregnant" makes as much sense as "peer-2-teen choice behavior." Let us pity poor Reynold, who, in addition to not being allowed on any missions, isn't allowed to watch a PG-13 movie about ponies. This constant sheltering feeds his naive persona - the little dude can't even cuss properly. So, when he attempts to express his frustration about being sent to bed, "get teen pregnant" is the best he can come up with. He's not going to get pregnant, or get someone pregnant - he's using risque language inappropriately. I doubt theres anything to really make a case about. As mentioned before, getting teen pregnant makes no sense - especially as Reynolds says it, and since when is pregnancy innapropriate? I may be over exageratting, but I think everyone here is born thanks to a pregnancy. And I doubt society's reached a point where one is ashamed of being pregnant. The line just shows Reynold's lack of common sense/wit. Yeah I agree that H*R isn't for kids. It did start out as a kid's book, but if you notice, the kid's book is pretty much a satire of other kid's books. The whole site is satire and a lot of the jokes are ones that kids wouldn't understand. In fact, I'd go so far as to say most young children who would be reading kids books would not understand a darn thing on the site. It's adult entertainment, for the most part, and I think we should keep that in mind. As for the whole god thing, if you noticed, TBC tries to keep religion out of H*R. There are very few, if any, references to it. The fact that they call it "Decemberween" and do other stuff is their attempt at appealing to the largest audience possible. While they may be Christian, it's clear that they don't make that a factor in their work. I think that we should keep this in mind while watching the clips. Look, the fact is, this quote is different than the way the brothers usually handle "naughty" subject matter. They usually say something that is some combination of an obvious inuendo (Like "Cold Ones" instead of Beer) and something plainly impossible (like smoking candy). In this case, while what was said was still technically impossible, there was no inuendo at all. That ends up leaving "Teen pregnant" as part of the punchline. Some people are going to be offended at the mere mention of the controversial subject matter, and others will worry that TBC are implying people get too worked up over teen pregnancy. By failing to use a pseudenym or some other tool like they usually do, the brothers left themselves open to this.

If it had taken place later in the toon--once everybody knew what was being made fun of--it wouldn't have offended nearly as many people. But the joke really was structured differently than most of the jokes like this they do, so it's going to offend people who wouldn't normally be offended. That doesn't mean people are being too uptight or, (as has been suggested on the forum) people hate Cheat Commandos. It just means that, while similar to the other jokes, this one really was different, and so people are going to feel differently about it.

::Not to mention they mention smoking (teachers can go have a smoke while the film is playing). I think this was simply a toon reflecting some more subversive ideas but doing it in a funny way. There is an undercurrent of laissez-faire attitudes here but nothing to get worked up over. Approved by "some people who know what's best"? This is as close to political commentary they've ever gotten and I think they did it well without ruffling many feathers.

As for "Oh Holy Crap". The character's name is Strong BAD. Not Strong Politically Correct, though I'd love to see him come on as a cousin or something. The summary of the toon on the menu says "Strong Bad offends everybody." Old school Strong Bad was more explicitly a villain and this was part of his character.

The antioxidants explanation is just dumb. We're not advised to eat foods with antioxidants in them for the prevention of acne. Anti-oxidants prevent oxidation; having these chemicals in the body and are thought to prevent cancer and stave of the visible signs of aging. They may be used in over the counter acne medicine, but they aren't doing anthying in them. Anti-acne medicine works through cleansing/astringent properties. Prescription anti-acne medicine is antibiotics. There is absilutely no evidence that topical application of antioxidants has any effect at all. Eplaining antioxidants as acne preventers is really bizzare, and I don't understand why it got changed back. The acne prevention commercials I remember from my 80's childhood were for the aforementioned products with benzoyl peroxide, not antioxidants. You are confused, and there is nothing in the cartoon to support an acne connection. Modern unsupported claims on this subject have no relevance. GO read the web MD article; no mention of acne. You are apparently the only person who beleives this (or thinks it relevant), so stop putting it in the wiki. As for why its in the cartoon? perhaps it is there to evoke the oxy clean/clearasil commercials, but those were for Oxidizers, not antioxidants. Maybe they just put it in to be random. TBC do that. Antioxidants taken as a supplement CAN HELP GET RID OF ACNE and HELP IMPROVE YOUR HELTH OVERALL. I am a chemist and have studied it. The reasoning behind this is due to the fact that our bodies are continually breaking down. This breakdown is from the electrons in our bodies breaking free from their atoms and flying around in our bodies (these electrons are called free radicals). The majority of bad things (sickness, acne, etc.) that happen to our bodies are a result of these free radicals flying about in our system, crashing into other atoms causing them to break apart, and unlitmately causing damage.
NOW, how do antioxidants fit into all this? Antioxidants flush the free radicals out of our system, completely removing them and the damage they are causing to our body. While antioxidants probably will not be able to completely cure more serious acne cases, it will definitely make a difference. Plain and simple, its proven science. -Joey

On the title slide for Pro-Positive Life Tool #3, the character shown is quite hairy, and looks like the silhouette of a Berenstain Bear, from the books. This is a reference to the Berenstain Bears. The books teach morals, in a fun way for kids. There are many reasons not to go overboard with screenshots, including things like the fact that some people browse without images (for various things like preference, having a browser that doesn't support images, or being blind), but the most important reason is that a transcript is made of ''words''. And words can be searched for, copied, pasted, and otherwise manipulated in ways that images cannot. Screenshots can ''supplement'' the transcriptions, but they should never be the primary content. Well, not only do I have it there for you to copy on your clipboard an paste on your user page, but you can also access this key on a PC with the Alt-0241 (with the numbers input by the numeric pad while holding down the Alt key) for a lowercase "ñ", and Alt-0209 for a capital "Ñ". And on a Mac, you can access the lowercase and uppercase n with tilde by the key combos of ⌥(Option)-n-n or ⌥-n-N, respectively. Accessing the "⌥" character? No idea.
