== Biography ==

'''Strong Bad''' is one of the most well-known characters in the [[Homestar Runner (body of work)|Homestar Runner]] body of work. He started out as the villain who tried to cheat his way to the top but was always doomed to fail before [[Homestar Runner]]. In the manner that minor characters become [[Wikipedia:breakout character|breakout characters]], he's now less of a villain and more of a highly expanded form of comic relief, with his irascible sarcasm and rough voice seeming to make him ever more popular with fans of the website.

He answers [[Strong Bad Email|emails]] with a passion, and will [[Poorly Written Emails|make fun]] of their grammar, punctuation, and spelling—although he's not overly worried about [[Strong Bad's Spelling|his own]]. He also hates to be asked about [[How Do You Type With Boxing Gloves On?|how he manages to type with boxing gloves on]]. He usually does what he does best when he gets an e-mail like that: '''[[DELETED|DELETED!!]]''' He also writes, illustrates, and narrates the series of [[Teen Girl Squad]] comics.

Strong Bad is the middle child of [[The Brothers Strong]]. His is the dominant personality and he loves to push everyone around: he's often abusing Homestar, [[Kicking The Cheat|kicking]] [[The Cheat]], [[Marzipan's Answering Machine|prank-calling]] [[Marzipan]], or [[Strong Bad and Strong Sad's Relationship|tormenting]] [[Strong Sad]] (although it's been hinted that they [[The Secrets That I Keep|got along]] when they were younger). Although he seems to dislike or positively loathe most people, he enjoys the company of [[Bubs]], The Cheat, his ever-diligent lackey, [[Strong Mad]], his older brother, and, [[Strong Bad and Pom Pom's Relationship|to a lesser extent]], [[Pom Pom]].

He has boxing gloves for hands (which always have square window reflections on them, no matter where he is), and a [[Wikipedia:Lucha libre|lucha libre]] mask for a head (as confirmed in [[some kinda robot]]). Although he claims that his mask is his face, he once removed it in the [[the chair]]. This act caused him a lot of pain but no lasting visible damage. His mouth is rectangular, though it often becomes round when he says words with the letter "o". Most of the time, Strong Bad's mouth is in a slight frown, but there are occasions where he [[Strong Bad Smiling|smiles]]. The blue diamond on his face also gives him the power to mentally open [[Cold One]]s and even pop Homestar's hat off his head; however, this seems to have been abandoned, as it was only demonstrated in [[super powers]]. Strong Bad rules the land of [[Strong Badia]], a barren field behind the [[Wikipedia:Dumpster (term)|dumpsters]] that is completely devoid of any sentient life. His favorite saying is (or was for a time) "[[Crap|holy crap]]", though he hates when people use the word crap when [[Crapfully Yours|signing emails]]. He frequently mangles words, as seen in [[army]]. ("We're a one man army. Er, a three man one-y. [[Three-to-One Marny|Three-to-one-marny]]?") It has also been [[road trip|implied]] that he wets the bed, a fact that he attempts to [[Blatant Lies|cover up]] with little success. However, he seems to sleep instead on the couch in his [[Strong Bad's Basement|basement]], frequently mumbling video game titles as he wakes surrounded by bags of [[Potate]].

Strong Bad talks a big line, claiming to be a criminal mastermind, a [[Exaggerated Strong Bad|muscle man]], and totally popular with the [[Strong Bad's Ladies|ladies]], though there is little evidence of any of these claims, and no shortage of evidence that they are all untrue. Strong Bad refuses to acknowledge this however, and continues unaffected with his delusions of grandeur. He is convinced that Marzipan likes, or has a crush on, him when in fact she "[[marzipan|really doesn't like him at all]]." Due to his delusional opinions about himself, much of what Strong Bad says is [[Blatant Lies|obviously untrue]].

He loves to listen to [[Limozeen]], [[Taranchula]], and [[Peter Frampton]]. He seems to dislike any band that isn't considered [[Heavy Metal|metal]], as seen towards the end of [[concert]]. His favorite show is [[Caleb Rentpayer]]. He also enjoys doing [[caper|Jumble puzzles]] and [[The Interview|baking]]. His love for [[Strong Bad's Technology|older technology]] such as cassette tapes, command prompt computers, old video games and laserdiscs, and the titles of events such as "[[monster truck|Awexome Cross '98]]", and "[[TrogdorCon '97]]" suggest that Strong Bad is "stuck in the '90s". Despite his love of the nineties, he seems to despise and destroy anything from any previous decade, like [[Wikipedia:8-track cartridge|8-Tracks]], TVs that lost their essence in the '70s, and the [[Nintendo#Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)|Nintendo Entertainment System]].

Strong Bad has sung many hit singles, his most popular being "[[Everybody to the Limit]]". He also stars as the protagonist in the blockbuster action series "[[Dangeresque (film series)|Dangeresque]]".

He works with Homestar and The Cheat at an [[The Office|unnamed tech company]], though despite this fixed income, he seems to have financial troubles, and often attempts money making solutions of questionable legitimacy and [[other days|burns his bills]] with his [[BMW Lighter]]. His financial troubles might be partly due to his high electric bill, which he claims to be $70,000 in [[environment]]. His dream job, as stated in [[from work]], is to be a 2nd 2nd assistant space whale scrubber.

Strong Bad is somewhat prejudiced; he has been [[sb_email 22|banned from the UK]], and often [[little questions|ridicules non-English speakers]] on their e-mails. He also does not get on well with old people or [[for kids|children]], although he claims to have children of his own, including Jeffrey Beffrey Mudgeman, at his second secret home where he goes by the name Vance Mudgeman. He doesn't appear to care much for those children either, or perhaps he does and truly believes that "you got to be firm."

As evidenced in [[stand-up]], Strong Bad once did [[Wikipedia:standup comedy|stand-up comedy]] as a kid. He apparently wasn't very good, as he tried to make up jokes instead of using natural comedy or rehearsed jokes. However, he doesn't like talking about his act, because his pants fell down in front of the audience, and he ran away embarrassed.

There is highly conflicting evidence regarding Strong Bad's strength. For the most part, it is implied that Strong Bad is actually very weak and out of shape and that "Strong Bad" is merely his name and not an accurate description: In the email [[lady fan]], he is unable to do even a single push-up, and states that he used to be able to do only four. In addition, the paper on Strong Bad's desk in the [[Homestar Quiz]] reads "Strong Bad isn't so strong after all. If he tried hard, which of the following could he lift?", and lists the choices as "an ounce", "a week", "a weak", and "pepper". Strong Sad has stated on [[Strong Sad's Lament|his blog]] that Strong Bad's punches do not hurt, compared against Strong Mad's that do. On the other hand, in the email [[car]], Strong Bad demonstrates the ability to punch Homestar hard enough to hit and crack the wall, and in the email [[secret identity]], he literally tosses both Homestar and the King of Town out of his house. He can also easily pick up and carry the supposedly 42-pound [[Lappy 486]], and is quite adept at [[kicking The Cheat]] (hinted in [[Where's The Cheat?]] to weigh about 18 pounds). As Strong Bad stated in [[TrogdorCon '97]], he has an "unbelievably loose grasp on the world around [him]". He's not ''completely'' stupid (he once correctly stated [[Wikipedia:Coulomb's law|Coulomb's law]]; albeit after being asked what two plus two is) and has proven to be remarkably clever in the past, though such occurrences are few and far between. He and most of the other residents of [[Free Country, USA]] speak English, but as seen in his [[First Time Here?|welcome speech to homestarrunner.com]], he is also able to speak Spanish, though it is unknown exactly how much. According to the toon [[Marshmallow's Last Stand]], he weighs about one hundred pounds.

Homestar is the star athlete on an unspecified sports team led by [[Coach Z]] and keeps it that way via vigorous workouts, as revealed in the [[Strong Bad Email]] [[dullard]]. He is also the colonel (which is always pronounced phonetically) of the [[Homestarmy]], while his [[Homestar Runner and Pom Pom's Relationship|best friend]] remains [[Pom Pom]]. He has some [[Wikipedia:Rhotacism|speech impediments]] (as he says, he has "[[Puppet Jam: Vitamins/Celebrities|twouble with [his] aw's]]"), and appears to have [[Homestar Runner and Homestar Runner's Relationship|short-term memory problems]], as he frequently forgets things he has just done or said, (for examples, see the [[Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 12.2|12th Answering Machine]] or [[Homestar Presents: Presents]]). He also tends to "borrow" things from (and return things to) [[Strong Bad]], for example, [[Strong Bad's fondue pot]]. Though he [[Lack of Visible Arms|lacks a visible pair of arms]], he is still able to function as though he has them, being able to carry and throw things and even type proficiently. It's generally accepted that either he ''does'' have arms, but for reasons that are never explained, they are invisible, or that he has limited telekinetic powers. He frequently uses two-syllable exclamations, like [[montage|"Hi-Ya!"]], [[radio|"Highball!"]], and [[Homestar Presents: Presents|"Ahct-poo!"]].

Although he is often the target of pranks by Strong Bad, Homestar believes that he is friends with the "[[wrestleman]]" and tries to win his favor, often with bad results that Homestar completely misunderstands. Occasionally, he and Strong Bad will be on pleasant terms, usually participating together in a Strong Bad Email or watching TV at Homestar's house. As a whole, Homestar seems to be too dim to realize when people are being mean to him, or when he's being mean to other people. He often unintentionally insults his friends or steps on their feelings and is unable to understand their resulting feelings of anger. Another quirk of Homestar is his ability to be easily outsmarted at his own game, and still be completely oblivious and even happy. As Strong Bad put it in [[secret recipes]], "It's like, even when we win, he wins." It should also be noted that Homestar's psychology may account for his sleepwalking behavior, as exhibited in the Strong Bad Email [[nightlife]].

Homestar has behaved arrogantly on various subjects, often caused by discussions of tender subjects, misunderstanding the topic at-hand or his general ignorance of the present situation. While arrogant, he acts single minded and in extreme instances, violently, in a side of his character not often shown on the website, before coming down into upset and exhausted state, such as in [[Happy Fireworks]], when he refuses to acknowledge [[Marzipan]]'s lack of presence, or in [[long pants]], where he is indignant about the suggestion that he does not, in fact, wear long pants.

At present, Homestar works on the [[isp|help desk]] at an [[The Office|unnamed tech company]] with Strong Bad and [[The Cheat]], but has frequently dabbled in the entertainment industry. He made several [[Fluffy Puff Commercial|commercials]] for [[Fluffy Puff Marshmallows]] along with the product's mascot, [[Marshie]]. He was paid for his work in the commercials with a lifetime supply of "[[Color flavored|Red Flavored]] [[Fluffy Puff Translucent Dessert Related Substance]]". He is also the host of an obscure talk/game show named "[[The Show]]", has co-starred in at least one ''[[Dangeresque (film series)|Dangeresque]]'' movie, sung several hit singles such as "[[Everybody Knows It]]", "[[Puppet Jam: Bad Jokes|Bad Jokes]]" and other jams with [[They Might Be Giants]], revealed that he is considering a career in [[crying|male modeling]], and also guest starred in an episode of [[Caleb Rentpayer]] (in which he shot Caleb). He enjoys running, breaking into Strong Bad's house, singing, and finding the perfect [[Decemberween]] present. He also seems to really like [[bread]], as seen in [[origins]] and [[disconnected]]. Other favored foods are [[Fluffy Puff Marshmallows|marshmallows]], [[Bronco Trolleys]], [[melonade]], and supposedly [[Wikipedia:Hot Pockets|Hot Pockets]], according to the email [[dullard]]. His most prized possession is his propeller-cap and its [[Spin My Buzzer|"buzzer"]]. He might be a fan of the [[Wikipedia:NHL|NHL]]'s [[Wikipedia:Boston Bruins|Boston Bruins]], as he is seen wearing a Bruins shirt in [[Superbowl Dealie]].

He, [[Coach Z]], [[Bubs]], and [[Pom Pom]], appear to be the current law enforcement in [[Free Country, USA]], as seen in [[Strong Bad is in Jail Cartoon]] and [[road trip]] (In the latter, Strong Bad refers to Homestar as "Officer Cheese-for-butt," which suggests that Homestar may be some sort of officer.) The King of Town calls upon his and Pom Pom's assistance in [[The King of Town DVD]], suggesting higher authority and/or credibility. However, he is also seen as a thief in [[candy product]], stealing a pair of half-eaten "choco-pants". In the October 2007 special [[Jibblies 2]], he saves his friends by agreeing to stay inside the [[Horrible Painting]] for "eternity".

Homestar's eyes are quite strange.
*Sometimes they seem to move around his head. Most of the time they're like a flounder's eyes, but they switch sides of his face whenever he turns. In the [[Old Intro 2]], you can sort of see Homestar's eyes moving as the camera circles around him. Also, in [[Theme Song Video]], the currently absent toon [[Marshmallow's Last Stand]], the old version of [[In Search Of The Yello Dello DVD|In Search of the Yello Dello]], the [[Homestar Runner and Strong Bad Screensaver|Homestar Screensaver]], [[action figure]], and the [[Eggs (toon)|Eggs toon]], you can see his face from the front, which further lends credence to this theory.
**It is possible that Homestar's eyes are in fact on the front of his head, but his generally accepted stature always has him facing slightly to the side. Because he is a cartoon character, the three-dimensional shape of his head and face are not shown, so the viewer is left to infer the eyes' correct positions based on which direction Homestar appears to be facing. (Note that an explicit "front view" of Homestar Runner has not been seen since Old Intro 2.)

*His puppet and his two figurines, on the other hand, have eyes stuck on one side of his head. Occasionally you can get a peek at the other side of Puppet Homestar's face.

Homestar Runner usually wears a blue and red propeller cap, commonly called a beanie. He calls the propeller a "buzzer." In an interview with [[Wonkavision Magazine Interview|Wonkavision Magazine]], he claimed that he was born with his hat on. He is occasionally seen without it. He had lost his hat in [[Where My Hat is At?]] and apparently [[Marshmallow's Last Stand]] (according to the DVD commentary) as well. In the email [[super powers]], Strong Bad managed to make the hat pop off of Homestar's head. In the email [[car]], Homestar had his hat "tricked out" with features such as hydraulics and underglow neon. He also claimed that if Strong Bad [[Spin My Buzzer|spun his "buzzer"]], it would play the theme from ''[[Wikipedia:Night Court|Night Court]]'', but it was obvious Homestar hummed it himself. Homestar dressed as himself in [[TrogdorCon '97]], and wore two hats as a result.

== Homestar's Shirt ==

Homestar's shirt seems to most resemble a red skirt with a white star on it. [[Strong Bad]] stole the star in [[Marshmallow's Last Stand]] and used it to coax Homestar and [[Pom Pom]] into wrestling [[Strong Mad]] and himself. Despite the brothers' loss to Homestar and Pom Pom, Strong Bad tore up the star, and only by kicking Strong Bad and taking one of the stars floating around his head was Homestar able to return his shirt to its original glory. The only other times Homestar's star has been removed were in [[different town]], in which Strong Bad imagined Homestar angrily tearing the star off his shirt and stamping on it when he "called it quits", and [[hygiene]], when he takes it off and blows his nose in it as John. Clearly, the star is a mark of pride to Homestar Runner.

In the original script for [[flashback]], Strong Bad wore a similar shirt until Marzipan gave one to Homestar (to replace his Duckie Shirt). After this point, Strong Bad would have ripped off his shirt, explaining why he never wore one to this day.

A real-life version of the shirt is available for purchase in the [[Store]].

Other than his propeller cap, Homestar's shirt appears to be his only piece of clothing, as his questionable [[Homestar Runner's Pants|pants]] are a mystery. In [[long pants]], Strong Bad claims that Homestar doesn't have shoes, but has blue soles glued to the bottom of his feet. He wore a gray version of his shirt in [[impression]] while doing a bad imitation of [[Strong Sad]].

Note that the shirt is also straight compared to the eyes on the unfinished toon, [[Tis True, Pom Pom, Tis True]].

==Homestar & Marzipan==

Homestar's relationship with Marzipan seems tenuous at best, and it has appeared to deteriorate over time. Although Homestar frequently (and usually inadvertently) insults Marzipan, and she claims to have broken up with him several times, the two still seem to stick together. It is unclear how their relationship started, but the fact that their relationship is never truly broken suggests that they really do love each other.

Homestar appears to greatly value their relationship; on the ''rare'' occasion that he realizes that their relationship is in jeopardy, he will spring into a desperate ploy to patch things up. He also seems to miss and need Marzipan's badgering every once in a while. When she was out of town in [[Happy Fireworks|July of 2005]], he carried around a [[Cardboard Marzipan|cardboard cutout]] version of her and provided a voice for it. The cardboard version still made similar comments about violence and Homestar's poor grammar that the actual Marzipan would have, providing Homestar with the presumably cathartic opportunity to say "Shut up, Marzipan." Even then, Homestar's relationship with the "Cardboard Marzi" appeared to be tenuous, as he voiced her flirting with other men. (This could be due to lasting paranoia and suspicion following a series of [[Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 3.0|answering machine messages]] in which both Bubs and Coach Z tried to ask her out on a date.) Cardboard Marzipan returned in [[No Hands on Deck|August of 2006]], where she was slightly more positive with Homestar, and said she was proud of his unusually constructed deck.

In [[Date Nite]], Marzipan went out with The Cheat, much to Homestar's dismay. Though the date went well, Marzipan did not stay with The Cheat. She later went out with Bubs, to Coach Z's dismay.
