Someone: /* Goofs */

Behind the set of a main page. Nearly everything is flipped around, since we're seeing it from the back, and ink marks where all the buttons are.

Cast (In order of appearance): Homestar Runner, Coach Z, Strong Bad, The Cheat, Homestar Runner, Strong Sad

Icon: Piece of wood

Page title: "Backstage Pass!"

Date: September 19, 2005

*Toons — Coach Z pops up with a clapperboard and says, "Main Page number 23, take one, action!" Homestar delays saying "Toons" until after he's gone.
*Games — A piece of wood wiggles loose and falls off of the set, striking Homestar on the head. Homestar replies with "Oof!" It reappears where it was after a few seconds.
*Characters — On the first mouse-over, Strong Bad jumps up and says "Oh, check me out, it's the front of my head!" while facing away from the user. On the second mouse-over, Strong Bad jumps up and says "Oh, check me out, it's the back of my head!" while facing toward the user.
*Downloads — The Cheat falls in front of Homestar, facing him and the user, and afterwards makes a couple The Cheat noises and walks off.
*Store — Another Homestar walks in front of Homestar and says, "'Sup, man?" Homestar replies, "'Sup?"
*E-mail — A piece of wood, presumably painted with Strong Sad's head on the opposite side, floats across the screen with the words "Wear a Bikini!" written on the back of it. From off screen Strong Sad holds up his tape player into view and presses "Play," causing it to say (in Strong Sad's voice) "I'm the floating head of dooooom!"

Fun Facts
Remarks
* The parts of the buttons for toons, games, and characters that are sticking out aren't clickable.
* Coach Z says "action" while still holding up the clapperboard; he's still in the shot when Homestar delivers his line.
* The support behind Homestar's head would be visible from the front, but doesn't show up on any of the other main pages.
* The reversed joke was only taken so far. As such, the Weeklies buttons are not truly flipped. It should go in this order, left to right: Random Toon, Sketchbook, Weekly Fanstuff, then Quote of the Week.
* Likewise, the numerical order of the home pages is not reversed, just right-justified.
**This is the only Main Page to refer to them as the compound word "homepages" instead of "home pages."

Goofs
* Although the part of the characters button where the "s" would be is partly sticking out, the characters button on other main pages are not sticking out at all.
* Homestar is standing in front of the set and the piece of wood that falls is behind it, so it should drop behind him, not hit him on the head.

Glitches
* If you hold down the tab button on this menu, several hidden items become highlighted. You cannot click on them with your mouse, but you can select them by pressing enter.
** To the left of the visible recent updates button is another recent updated button.
** There is yet another recent updates button where the recent updates button normally is.
** There is another First Time Here? button on the left side located where the First Time Here? button normally is relative to the recent updates button.
** There is yet another First Time Here? button off the right edge of where it normally is.

{reading email}

Dear Strong Bad,

Could you please do your impression
of Strong Sad?

Thanks,
Your friend

STRONG BAD: ...and there's no name. Um... Thanks, Your friend... Jhonka. {He types "Jhonka" under "Your Friend", then starts typing his reply.} No way, Jhonka! What a coincidence! I was just on my way out the door to go to the annual Strong Sad Lookalike Contest where contestants are judged on appearance, impression and penmanship. I'm a shoo-in this year, man. Wait'll you see my costume! {Runs offscreen, but runs back a few seconds later to say:} Not beatin' around the bush this week.

{Strong Bad runs off again. Cut to The Field. Coach Z is standing under a sign that reads: "2003 Sectional Finals — STRONG SAD LOOKALIKE CONTEST".}

COACH Z: Okay, I'd like to welcome everybody back! Hope you enjoyed your intermission there. Bubs, the hot cold cuts was great!

BUBS: {off screen} Those were moist towelettes!

COACH Z: So without further ado {pronounced 'adieu'}, I'd like to introduce the man of the hour, the deathly pallor: Strong Sad!!

{Strong Sad joins Coach Z under the sign}

THE KING OF TOWN: {off screen} Booo!

STRONG SAD: Thank you! Thank you! I'm simultaneously honored and insulted to be involved in this contest for the fourth year in a row.

COACH Z: That's enough there, Strong Sad! {He shoves Strong Sad out of the way.} Your work is done here. Let's get this pratty started!!

{Cut to a view of Strong Bad in a Strong Sad costume, which consists of a grey "Phys Ed" sweatshirt, a white beret, and a paper plate with Strong Sad's face drawn on it. There's a suspicious looking lump under the sweatshirt.}

COACH Z: Lookin' good there, Strong Bad.

STRONG BAD: I know.

COACH Z: Nice use of light and shadow.

STRONG BAD: I know.

COACH Z: ...and picnic supplies.

STRONG BAD: I know. Shut up.

COACH Z: Let's hear what you got.

STRONG BAD: All right. Let me just push play on my "sweat shirt" here.

STRONG SAD: {on a tape} Why do you want me to say "Hello, my name is Strong Sad"? {He fast-forwards the tape} Get that tape-recorder out of my face {more fast-forwarding} Stop flickin' my ear!

STRONG BAD: {also on tape} More like: You stop flickin' my ear!

STRONG BAD: {He stops the tape.} Ha ha. Oops.

COACH Z: Ok, then. Very unsuspicious.

STRONG BAD: I know.

{Coach Z moves on to Homestar Runner. Homestar is wearing hippo slippers and a grey shirt with a star on it, and he has a sock taped to his head instead of his signature hat.}

COACH Z: Hey, there, Homestar. Nice hippo slippers.

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Thanks. They're elephants.

COACH Z: Sure they are! Now let's hear your impression.

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Um.. Remind me again what type stuff that guy says.

COACH Z: You know. Depressing-type stuff!

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Right, right! Here goes! Ahem. {in a depressing voice} Oh... Some animal died. {In his normal voice} That's something he's always saying, right?

COACH Z: Yeah, I think I heard him say that a few times. Next contestant!

{The next contestant appears to be Strong Sad.}

COACH Z: Strong Sad, you're not eligible for this contest! I thought I told youse to go on home!

{A familiar-looking hat pops up on the Strong Sad lookalike's head revealing that he is, in fact, Homsar. His Strong Sad costume is flawless. Coach Z doesn't realize who it is.}

HOMSAR: {sadly} AaAaAaAa... I'm cryin' on the inside!

{The Cheat hops up in a paper bag, painted to look like Strong Sad's left leg.}

COACH Z: OK, The Chort, lay it on me!

THE CHEAT: {in a depressing voice} Meh meh. Menemah mennah mennah meh.

COACH Z: Holy crap! It's as if Strong Sad was still alive and with us today! First Prize!

THE CHEAT: Meh! {Jumps up out of the bag, then lands back inside bag}

{Cut to Strong Bad's computer. Strong Bad walks up muttering. He's still in costume.}

STRONG BAD: Stupid friggin' Cheat-in-a-Bag. {typing} I can't believe The Cheat won sectionals for the 4th year in a row dressed up as Strong Sad's left leg. I knew I should have gone for the bigger butt. {stops typing} Oh well. {resumes typing} At least I won the penmanship award. But I should get going if I'm still going to be fashionably late to the afterparty. {stops typing.} So, until next time, all the ladies and dudes say: {singing} "Strong Bad is a cool guy! And we're not cool in the least!"

{Strong Bad leaves and The Paper descends.}

*Click on "Jhonka" to see just what a Jhonka is. (Once again, we are shown that Strong Bad likes trolls.)

JHONKA

The Jhonka are one of many
tribes of primitive, troll-like
creatures found in the lowlands
and throughout lesser dungeons.

Their low intelligence makes
them quite susceptible to toilet
humor and cheap gags such as
"Gimme five. Up high. Down
low. Too slow."

FREQUENCY: Common
INTELLIGENCE: Low
Easter Egg Transcript
{Homestar and Coach Z are standing in a room filled with a balloons. Homestar is dressed in his Strong Sad costume, "Poot Slap" is playing in the background, and Coach Z is holding a Not So Cold One.}

COACH Z: I meant to tell you the sock on the head was a nice touch.

HOMESTAR RUNNER: I have a sock on my head? {Shaking back and forth} Get it off, get it off, get it off, get it off, get it off, get it off, {stops shaking} get it off, get it off!

Fun Facts
Explanations
*The "not beating around the bush" comment refers to Strong Bad's normal way of not really answering an email's question.
*Pallor means paleness.

Remarks
*Strong Sad on the tape tells Strong Bad to stop flicking his ear, but Strong Sad doesn't have visible ears.
**Strong Bad also would have a hard time flicking something with boxing gloves for hands.
*The Cheat's costume has three toenails, whereas Strong Sad's soolnds only have two toenails each.
*In this email, Strong Bad shows excellent touch-typing skills as he finishes the email with a paper plate mask taped to his face. However, he seems to later lose this ability. In pom pom, Strong Bad is unable to type while blindfolded.

Goofs
*When Strong Bad comes back to the computer after the contest, still wearing his costume, his hat is incorrectly mirrored in the screen's reflection.
*The form for the penmanship contest says 2004 Sectional Finals, however, the sign for the contest said 2003.

Inside References
*At the after party Coach Z is drinking a "Not So Cold One," from property of ones.
*Strong Bad's comeback "More like, YOU stop flicking MY ear," is very similar to his comeback in 50 emails.

Real-World References
*The picture of Jhonka is reminiscent of the various humanoid creatures in Dungeons and Dragons.
**In previous versions of Dungeons and Dragons, an armor class of +2 would be a decent defence rating. However, in the current incarnation of Dungeons and Dragons it would make the creature very easy to hit in combat.
*In the bigger butt Easter egg, Strong Bad drew the Kangol kangaroo above his cap. Kangol is a British clothier famous for this kind of hat.

Fast Forward
*The Jhonka plays a prominent role in Peasant's Quest.
*Homestar also uses, "Oh... Some animal died" in Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 9.2.
*The Deathly Pallor will later become the name of Strong Sad's radio persona in radio.

DVD Version
*All of the Easter eggs in this email are viewable using the angle button on your DVD remote.
HRWiki:Recent changes patrol

Someone: /* Members */

Ever noticed a little red exclamation point next to an edit listed on the recent changes page? Did you know you can remove those exclamation points by patrolling edits? The idea is that having a group of people patrolling edits should reduce spam and vandalism.

To mark an edit as patrolled, click the "diff" link next to an unpatrolled edit, survey the edit to be sure it isn't spam or vandalism, then click the "Mark as patrolled" link near the top right of the page.

It's a different process to mark a new page patrolled. Since there is no "diff" link, you instead click on the article name. The link to patrol says, "Mark this article as patrolled", and it appears at the bottom right corner of the article.

If you'd like to help out in the effort of patrolling recent changes, put your name on the list below. Adding your name to the list constitutes a commitment of time to patrolling. This page will serve as a hub for patrollers to get in contact with one another. Feel free to list any questionable edits at the bottom of this page to call them to the attention of other patrollers. For an example of how this page might serve our community, see the Recent changes patrol on Wikipedia.
Silent J
Strong Bad might have said "Oh very clever" after reading the name Silent J because it could be a reference to Jay and Silent Bob, a pair of recurring characters from Kevin Smith's movies. It also may be clever because it's referring to the concept of a silent letter (for example, one would say "the word 'jalapeno' has a silent J"), and making reference to Silent Bob at the same time.

At Homestarrunner dot net (Declined)
This email implies that Homestar Runner has an email address, which we have no reason to believe because he is always using Strong Bad's computer.

* Decline I do not like this fact, but I don't feel right simply deleting it. Your call, people? --Jay 20:33, 2 Feb 2005 (MST)
* Accept - Dingell
* Accept, maybe revise It IS Homestar's website after all...so of course there would be an email address for him. Also, we haven't seen in Homestar's house as extensively as Strong Bad's. So he may have a computer... It just seems that he likes to fiddle with Strong Bad's computer anytime he sees it. I actually think the more interesting fun fact here is that Homestar can SPELL! →jake-a-roonie 06:22, 07 Feb 2005 (CST)
** But if that's true, then the fact doesn't need to be revised - it needs to be rewritten or thrown out! (Yes, there's a difference between revision and rewriting.) The fact implies that Homestar SHOULDN'T have an e-mail address, while you very clearly stated that he should. --Jay 13:28, 7 Feb 2005 (MST)
* Decline Since we're dealing with "implications" and "reasons to believe", I don't find this to be in any way factual. *This email shows a mouse cursor on the Tandy 400, which clearly doesn't have a mouse.
*Strong Bad only needs to hit backspace on his keyboard a few times to delete two whole lines of text.
*Even though Strong Bad only typed "forward message," the email still made its way to Homestar's inbox.
*There is a website based on this email.
*The total cost, minus shipping and handling if any, of Strong Bad's on-screen purchases is $3,013,500,000 USD.

Goofs
*You are still able to click the Tandy 400's contrast buttons while the "5 minutes later" screen is on.

Inside References
*The first four numbers in Homestar's credit card number can be used to access the pack of Homsar quotes from "Downloads."

Someone: Worst Email Ever

Good Boring or Bad Boring?
Oh my god, I can't believe I just watched that. How can I get back the four minutes of my life I lost? Why TBC WHY?

Intensely boring shark-jumping action!!! I liked those fireworks.

:It was SUPPOSED to be boring. All the "interesting" characters were acting dull as heck, while the more "boring" characters are hyped up on caffeine or throwing wild parties. -- 02:01, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Space Ghost Homage?
I know this would be horribly shot down if I tried to put it in Fun Facts, but given that TBC likely watch Adult Swim, I can't help feeling that this email was a Space Ghost Coast to Coast homage. Watch an ep like "Fire Ant" to see what I mean (10 minutes of Space Ghost crawling across a landscape muttering inane threats!). Aurora the Homestar Coder 04:21, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I don't think so, in Space Ghost it just has him walking around on his knees for ten minutes, here Strong Bad does stuff, but said stuff is pretty dull. The Pardack

:It was more the tone of the email that reminded me of SG -- long awkward pauses with nonsensical comments, and then all of a sudden something crazy happens... Aurora the Homestar Coder 16:50, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I gotta say, Matt did some AWESOME voice work here, Mike's animation was completely, boringly awesome, and the background music was some of the greatest yet! : I had mine at full volume too and I'm certain it's "that". "Math" doesn't really fit the context quite as well anyway. -- 02:56, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)
: Listened to it a few more times (speaker at full volume as well) and it was unmistakably "that"; clear consonants and everything. Crystallina 02:57, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)
: Listened to it a few more times and must apologize for me thinking so .. it is just that Bubs' voice is so .. "unclear" let's just say .. that it is hard to tell between the two when he is the speaker. - EMJS
Since I changed the entry to say who the picture was for, I figured I'd put my justification here. The picture is addressed to "S2," and it seems reasonable to interpret S-squared as Strong Sad.--Big Dog 03:12, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Bub's "Be's" was last heard from Stong Bad in the bet ("Let's see you be's cool"). Was there any other occasion?

Wowowowhat?
I'm rather convinced that Strong Bad says "What?" at the same time that Homestar says "Wow," but this doesn't seem to be a universal view. Opinions? -- 06:00, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

They both say Wow. I'm 100% certain.

Not sure, myself. Listened again and I can't quite tell, but I'm leaning towards "Wow" simply because it doesn't make much sense for Strong Bad to say "What?" when he just finished talking with Bubs about that very subject. Crystallina 06:05, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)
: It is kinda hard to discern, I'll admit. However, I can VERY clearly hear that SB's intonation rises (as though he's asking a question) as Homestar's falls. -- 06:13, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I'm almost positive I hear "Wow" here instead of "What". Strong Bad has kind of a strange way of saying it, but it's one I hear very often in his voice (it's usually "Whoa" or "Ohh", however). His intonation rises, but falls at the very end. It doesn't sound like a question to me. Also, I don't hear a hard "t" sound, and I think that would be pretty noticeable after checking it a few times. The entire word doesn't seem to have any hard sounds. Lastly, check out his mouth; it starts out with a rounded "o" shape then opens up into its normal rectangle shape. I think "Wow" fits that far better than "What" does. Now that I see both sides of the argument though, it's hard to be sure. Some more opinions would be nice. - 71.113.43.208 09:36, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure SB says "Woah" and then HR says "Wow". 09:54, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

It is definitely definitely definitely not "what". SB's intonation rises as homestar's falls yes, but if you try to block out homestar's and listen JUST to SB's inotation, you'll notice it falls again after the rise, which is EXACTLY how someone says "woah" or "wow", with a rise then a fall. Can we please PLEASE not leave "what" there? It looks like no one but Jay is advocating it being what, so why is his opinion trumping everyone else's? It's so very obviously not what. maybe it's woah maybe it's wow, but for god's sake let it be changed! Either of those is better than what. Woah or Wow are both probably correct, they're essentially the same word, but it isn't what!

Nothing? No one cares that anyone who changes the "what" gets reverted despite, from what I see, no one else thinking that's what it is? sigh.

:Eh, I hear "what" too. Aurora the Homestar Coder 05:55, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

It's got to be "wow". Like Anonny said up there, it's the word that fits the movements of his mouth best. Or possibly "whoa", but definitely not "what". — It's dot com 17:37, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)
We need to reach a consensus. Does Homestar say, "More like... Eye see," or, "More like... I see"? I think the joke here is that he says I see because he can't close his eyes. --BazookaJoe 11:51, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)
:I agree. It's the issue of Homestar seeing as opposed to Strong Bad, so there's emphasis on Homestar, and seeing as "I" represents Homestar, emphasis on "I" instead of "eye" makes sense.
:This email had a couple of things in its flash video that I feel are uncharacteristic of TBC: the use of the default flash object zoom, for example, that doesn't quite zoom accurately, making objects appear to move laterally while zooming in - Bubs' back, for example. Perhaps that's intentional, but it looked different as well as being somewhat unique among the SBemails. --Southpaw018|talk 21:53, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)
:: As somebody who uses Flash on a regular basis, I can say that the way certain objects appear to move laterally when zooming is, in this cartoon at least, intentional and not a symptom of Flash's crappy zoom. ::It just seems weird. Phonetically they're about one sound apart, and neither of them have any meaning other than to suggest surprise...
:It's not so much to differentiate between them, rather that if it's not there, people will constantly edit it one way or the other, and the edit history will be flooded people changing it from wow to woah and vice versa. 22:56, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)
What about an only-visible-on-edit note?
:I don't think that's good enough. First of all, the note is to readers, not editors. There will come a time when this page isn't edited that much. Second, like I said, most people are sure it's one or the other, but even after repeated examinations, they can't decide between the two. == Tejas ==

Well I changed Tejas to Tehas before, now I see it's back to Tejas with a link to history of Tejas, but I think the whole point was missed.

If I'm reading that line, or even reading the page it links too, and I don't know J is pronounced like H in spanish, it sounds to me like this site is saying the word is pronounced Teh-Jas, with a hard english J. If you want to leave the J there, please at least have it mentioned somewhere that it's pronounced like an H.

And I still don't think changing it to Tejas signifies the H sound any more than Texas does. Ever heard how they pronounce "Mexico" in spanish? Meh-hee-ko. X can sound like an H too. If the purpose of the Tejas line is to communicate that it's pronounced like an H, it doesn't communicate that at all. Please either make it Tehas or put somewhere that the J is pronounced like an H for the sake of accuracy. 216.203.251.141

Alright, no one cares to respond. I just noticed it was It's dot com who changed it to Tejas. And insisted no less.

Why? Is it just because I'm not part of this group that any change I try to make gets reverted? Whose blessing do I need to get to be able to fix minor snafoos I see without having to make a big thing about it every time? How is Tejas better than Tehas in that sentence >_< Alright, If for some reason someone NEEDS to see Tejas there, even though it doesn't represent what's actually pronounced, I'll attempt a compromise. If someone else can word what I'm adding better, fine, but don't do it just cause you want it worded YOUR way please, do it because there's an actual better way to do it. And if it's just plain reverted altogether this time without at least someone letting me know why here, I'm done trying to contribute, it's just power abuse and it'll happen every time I try to improve something. :hey man, I understand what you want to do, and why you think it would be an improvement, but I completely disagree with you. I like it the way it is because it is properly spelled and completely accurate. You are suggesting that they purposefully misspell a word because of the way it is pronounced. That would just be backwards. When SB says "Tejas", he isn't speaking English, he's speaking Spanish, and therefore, proper Spanish spelling should be used.
The transcript is supposed to document the toon, but it doesn't have to spell out every little mundane detail. And it's not like "Tejas" is unheard-of in English-language contexts. == Easter Egg Transcript ==

I dunno about you, but it doesn't really sound like they're singing along to the song, and more like they're laughing at some kind of joke:
*Pom Pom's girls are OBVIOUSLY laughing, though I can't say as there's ever been a time when they said much else.
*Pom Pom's bubbling kinda sounds like laughing (like, say, how he laughed in A Jorb Well Done), and the way his head bobs up and down kinda implies it too, but since it's just bubbling and not actual words it could go either way.
*Homsar's just being Homsar.
*The KoT, though, and what I think REALLY gives it away, says (from what I make of it): "Yes, ooh, that's mighty funny!" It doesn't sound much like the lyrics to the song at all (where in the clip does Homestar make an "ooo" sound?), and, if that's what WAS going on (a joke, hence why the KoT says it's "mighty funny"), it probably WOULD elicit the responses above, and it would probably make more sense.
Thus I think we should probably rewrite that mini-transcript there. Thoughts? --Shadow Hog 03:25, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

:I agree that they're not singing along... I thought at first that the KoT's was saying "{something} and I'm partying" or something, but listening now it doesn't sound like that... it could be "{something} and I'm funny", but it doesn't sound like "mighty" to me. But the transcript probably should be changed. 05:39, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

: I hear "party" from from the KoT. Which fits singing along with the song. -- 05:10, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
::I can see why, but the rest of it really doesn't match up (the only parts that sound like "party" would be the two at the end; "Yes, ooh, that's" doesn't sound anything like the song). In fact, I'd say the only one who'd really be "singing along", assuming that's what they're even doing, would be the KoT; the rest I seriously believe look like they're laughing. I don't think it really adds up. --Shadow Hog 14:00, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I distinctly heard "There's no exciting party," as if the KOT was trying to cover it all up. Then again, my hearing leaves a lot to be desired.--<text color: "magenta">Tiggera 05:01, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Coach Z
At the end when Coach Z says something like Jorb is a 4 letter word, then he says somethiing like pot, but it sounds stuffed up, does this happen to anyone else?

It plays a small clip from the KOT easter egg.

More references than usual?
Did it seem to anyone else that there were way more inside references in this email than in any others? Even the new scroll button rap is from another email. - Aaronak
*Indeed. --VolatileChemical 04:41, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Worst Email Ever
In my opinion this is the worst strong bad email ever. I understand the joke, but it just isn't that funny compared to the other emails. The only funny parts are homestar trying to close his eyes and strong sad at the end.
