"Oh, he looks so peaceful."

There are numerous references to the subject of death. These range from a character's death or near-death, to imagining or behaving as though a character has died. As in many cartoons, when a character dies, the death is usually impermanent — the character may reappear alive, often with no explanation. However, in the Homestar Runner universe, death is kept mainly as a running gag that nearly every cartoon today has, and is no exception in that sense. Usually, death is an empty threat that Strong Bad and several other main characters use, and, possibly excluding Strong Bad's computers, no main universe character has remained dead forever.

Appearances

Bubs

Email pom pom — Bubs mentions having "almost died the 15th time".
Sample of Style — Mike Chapman rips the cardboard tube that "produces" Bubs's voice. Matt Chapman says that they will have to kill off Bubs, "just like Homeschool Winner". A picture of Bubs's grave then appears.
Email unnatural — Strong Bad frequently suggests that they kill the rampaging King Bubsgonzola Supreme.
Doomy Tales of the Macabre — Bubs gets his head bitten off by his concession stand after the latter turns into his head.

Charlemagne

Homestar Ruiner — Strong Bad claims that the wilted plant on the main floor of the house of Strong is Charlemagne, Strong Sad's plant. He goes on to explain that it had previously been in good health, but decided to commit suicide when Strong Sad began talking to it. Strong Sad denies this, to which Strong Bad replies, "That's not what the note said!"
Strong Badia the Free — Strong Bad still claims Charlemagne commited suicide, but says "If only we'd read his journal, we might have seen the signs..."
Baddest Of The Bands — Strong Bad now says, "We like to keep the Charlemagne's rotting remains around in hopes he'll one day rise from the grave!"
8-Bit is Enough — Strong Sad throws Charlemagne to Trogdor, in hopes of getting him out of the house.

The Cheat

Email caper — Strong Bad sings a song saying how he is so glad that The Cheat is not dead.
Email bedtime story — The Cheat's vitals are tested after being bug-bombed in order to go to sleep. Strong Bad also says "If we're lucky, The Cheat will wake up alive the next morning".
Date Nite — Strong Bad suggests drowning Marzipan and The Cheat.
Doomy Tales of the Macabre — The Cheat is accidentally eaten by Strong Mad while shoveling candy into their mouths. Strong Bad, however, claims this is no big deal and actually happens about four times a day and is how they give The Cheat baths.

Cheat Commandos

Cheat Commandos — Firebert is shown killing two Blue Laser Minions by blowing up a cliff above them, sending rocks crashing down on top of them. (Coach Z similarly "kills" five Blue Laser Minion action figures by using Reinforcements's Justice Rocket Backpack Rocket Rocket to send a pie plate crashing down on them.)
Shopping for Danger — Crackotage remarks that Reynold would "prob'ly die" if he went on a mission with the rest of them, later heading back to base "to make sure Reynold isn't dead".
Let us give TANKS! — All of the main Commandos (except Reynold) are ostensibly killed in a nuclear explosion at the Blue Laser Cottage, along with the Blue Laser Commander and at least two Blue Laser Minions. The commander of the Green Helmets asks Gunhaver for air support in a battle because of the "heavy losses" they're suffering.
Blue Laserdisc Challenge — There are several different ways for the Blue Laser Commander to die if you choose incorrectly, such as being eaten by a monster or cut in half by a bladed pendulum.
2 Part Episode: Part 2 — Gunhaver accidentally shoots Flashfight while assuming he's wearing the bullet proof vest from part one. It is unknown if the shot killed him.

Frank Bennedetto

Email army — Frank Bennedetto "dies" after being kicked by Strong Bad. He is later seen alive in Labor Dabor.
Email more armies — A memorial statue for Frank Bennedetto is seen. This may mean either that his death was real, or that his service in the Homestarmy was worthy of commemoration.
- Another memorial, a picture of Homestar over the defeated Bennedetto, is seen in Strong Badia the Free. Also, if a "Bennedetto" (any inanimate object) is drafted, Homestar will prevent the draft, saying "Hasn't that family suffered enough?" and the like.

Homeschool Winner

Sample of Style — Matt Chapman briefly talks about the time they killed Homeschool Winner off.
Email buried — Strong Bad draws a map that shows a skull that appears to belong to Homeschool Winner underneath Strong Badia.

Homestar Runner

Main Page 6 — Homestar is in Heaven.
Main Page 7 — Homestar is shown as an undead zombie.
Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 2.0 — Strong Bad as "Detective Everybody" said Homestar was shot 37 times (and killed) for being too stupid.
Email the show — Homestar says, "But it turned out I didn't die."
Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 14.2 — Homestar calls to say he is sinking in quicksand, and says that if Marzipan helps, he would be "really, really still alive."
Email the movies — Strong Bad instructs Homestar to die before firing his bazooka at him.
Email winter pool — Homestar instructs Strong Bad to preserve his body in red Jell-O when he dies.
A Death-Defying Decemberween — Homestar performs a "death-defying" stunt. Bubs does not appear to expect Homestar to survive, as he gives him a sled that doubles as an epitaph. Strong Bad tries to make sure that Homestar actually dies during his stunt.
Where the Crap Are We? — Homestar guesses that he and Strong Bad are dead.

Homsar

Email homsar — Strong Bad "kills" Homsar with the Heavy Lourde at the request of Vinnie C. Although The Brothers Chaps intended at first for him to be killed, he was later revealed to be alive but seriously injured in Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 5. The Heavy Lourde is dropped on him again on the Homsar Main Page.
Email origins — Homsar and Marzipan are glued together and "left for dead" at The Stick, even though neither one actually dies.
Strong Badia the Free — Homsar claims he's ready to die side-by-side with Strong Bad.
Doomy Tales of the Macabre (Easter Egg) — Strong Sad in his macabre tale crushes Homsar with a Heavy Gourd.
A Decemberween Mackerel — Homsar is seen dying at the end of the toon.

Kerrek

Email interview — An Easter egg shows him after being "smote" by Trogdor.
Game TROGDOR! — When you reach the level 50 interlude, Kerrek is burninated by Trogdor.
Peasant's Quest — Kerrek is slain by Rather Dashing with his bow and arrow.

The King of Town

Halloween Fairstival — After seeing an X-ray of the King's heart, Strong Bad is content to "let the King die in peace."
Email original — Strong Bad suggests that the King has died twelve times, each time replaced with a new actor, at least one of which may have been an onion. In one Easter egg, Marzipan says that Strong Bad "just made all that stuff up," but another Easter egg shows a graveyard populated solely by Kings of Town I-XI ("Onion King of Town" replaces the grave for "King of Town IV").
Doomy Tales of the Macabre — Drowns in a cauldron of mutton stew.
Poker Night at the Inventory — The Heavy misunderstands Strong Bad when he asks if he can "take care of the King of Town" for him, thinking Strong Bad wants him to assassinate the King.

Marzipan

Email origins — Marzipan and Homsar are glued together and "left for dead" at The Stick, even though neither one actually dies. Strong Bad later comments on Marzipan's "considerable resistance to death".
Date Nite — Strong Bad suggests drowning Marzipan and The Cheat.

Old-Timey

Parsnips A-Plenty — Old-Timey Strong Bad falls off a cliff. He is later revealed to be in Hell in an Easter egg.
Sickly Sam buries himself alive on Tuesdays, and has numerous traits of an undead being, including a partially exposed skeleton.
That A Ghost — All of the main characters are reduced to skeletons, and Old-Timey Bubs pokes his head out of a grave asking Strong Man to "please keep it down."
Malloween Commercial — Mr. Shmallow's grave is seen in one scene.
Decemberween Short Shorts — Rumble Red is beheaded by Old-Timey Marzipan's machine, which she gave to him as a Decemberween present. Also, The Homestar Runner is forming a pile of dead rats.

The Paper

Email the paper — After The Paper breaks, Strong Bad is forced to apply a mercy killing with the BMW Lighter.
Email email thunder — Despite dying in the email mentioned above, The Paper returns for a brief moment. Shortly after its return, a spark hits it, thus causing The Paper to burn.

Pom Pom

Main Page 7 — Pom Pom's ghost flies out of his grave.
Where's The Cheat? — Strong Bad calls Marzipan and pretends to be Homestar Runner, and he tells her that he got mad and killed Pom Pom.
Email pom pom — Kevin wonders what would happen to Pom Pom if he was poked with a pin. Strong Bad decides to try this, except that he would also be blindfolded and Pom Pom would be set on fire with the BMW Lighter. He believes that Pom Pom exploded in "a big fiery ball that was visible from space", when in reality he got a "severe pummeling" by Pom Pom. He even wrote Pom Pom's parents a letter of condolence.
Late Nite JengaJam Interview - 4 Oct 2007 — The Brothers Chaps talk about what would happen if they killed off Pom Pom.
Doomy Tales of the Macabre — Pom Pom gets blown up by The Poopsmith, eventually exploding.

The Sad Kids

Homestarloween Party — The kids are crushed by the short-circuited Visor Robot, and neither of them live.
Meet Marshie — The kids are crushed by the "Fluffy-Puff Marsmallow" logo.
Mr. Shmallow (toon) — The kids are crushed when the shack's roof collapses.

Señor and Mr. Bland

Email kids' book — In the Strumstar Hammer Easter egg, Strong Bad writes that Señor died after the grapes squished him.
Email origins — They were described by Strong Bad as "by far the most popular characters until they were crushed by a falling Bubs' Concession Stand." However, they manage to reappear in Strongest Man in the World.

Senor Cardgage

Dangeresque 3: The Criminal Projective — Senor Cardgage's character, Dadgeresque, is killed by Uzi Bazooka.
A Decemberween Mackerel — The toon consists of Marzipan helping Senor Cardgage, who claims he is dying.

Strong Bad

Main Page 6 — Strong Bad is in heaven.
Main Page 7 — Strong Bad rises from his grave.
Email replacement — Strong Bad's grave is seen at the end.
Email time capsule — An emailer asks Strong Bad how he can be "soooo awesome" if he's dead, and requests that he make a time capsule.
Biz Cas Fri 1 and Email bike thief — Strong Bad proclaims he would "rather die" than do the things Strong Sad and Homestar request.
Email your funeral — The email consists entirely of Strong Bad imagining what his funeral would be like.
Eggs — An egg in the likeness of Strong Bad's head smashes.
Email hiding — Strong Bad proclaims that he will carry the location of his hiding place "to the grave".
Place ya bets! — Homestar appears to be plotting Strong Bad's demise; however, he does not have any real weapon to use, other than red candles made to look like dynamite.
8-Bit is Enough — Strong Bad is killed by the scorpions if he has the scorpion food with him.
- Also, when Strong Bad comes too close to the Munchox, he will be hit by his tail and fall over, with a text box proclaiming his death. However, he gets up and simply ignores it.
Where the crap are we? — Homestar guesses that he and Strong Bad are dead.

Strong Bad's Computers

Email invisibility — Strong Bad throws out the Tandy 400, which then passes away in the trash can.
Email ghosts — The Tandy returns to haunt Strong Bad and The Cheat in ghost form.
Email virus — In order to stop The Virus, Bubs "fixes" the Compy 386 by shooting it with a shotgun.
Biz Cas Fri 3 — The Corpy NT6 explodes.
Email retirement — The Tandy and Compy return from beyond the grave to kidnap the Lappy 486. They threaten to kill it using a magnet (causing it to display the Teal Screen of Near Death) unless they are allowed to check one last email. Strong Bad allows them to do so before destroying them both a second time.
Email environment — Marizpan holds a sign saying "Lappy, Take the Dirt Nappy!". There is a gravestone on this sign, with the word "RIP", on it.
Email hremail3184 — Strong Bad blows up the Lappy.

Teen Girl Squad

The main characters in Teen Girl Squad are killed off nearly every episode in a variety of ways, yet they always come back alive in the next issue, and sometimes later in the same issue, as seen with Cheerleader in Teen Girl Squad Issue 7.
Teen Girl Squad Issue 10 (Easter egg) — What's Her Face suggests killing someone off for their tenth issue. Strong Bad is more than happy to comply, by killing all four at once.

Videlectrix Mascot

At the beginning of Peasant's Quest, when the Videlectrix logo is shown, the mascot runs in with a sword, then trips and impales himself on it.
At the beginning of Where's an Egg?, when the Videlectrix logo is shown, the mascot shoots the logo with a gun, but the bullet ricochets back and kills him.

Other Characters

Email licensed — The outline of a murder victim can be seen outside Papa Cardgage's Puddin' Patch.
Email buried — Bubs tries to cover up the death of someone named Rich by burying his corpse in Strong Badia.
Limozeen vs. Sloshy — In a Limozeen: "but they're in space!" cartoon Easter egg, Sloshy and their tour bus are destroyed by Limozeen.
Homestarloween Party — Memories of the visor robot former life move him to tears and short out his circuits.
Baddest of the Bands —The Von Blaubloods are eaten by The King of Town on the stage of DÖI.
Where's an egg —If the detective fails to find an egg, he is exiled to Siberia and the game ends with him turning into a skeleton.
In Search of the Yello Dello New Version — During the mountain scene, Pom Pom aims his gun at the Yello Dello, but throws it away when Homestar says he wants to "take her alive".
Doomy Tales of the Macabre — After blowing up Pom Pom until he explodes, the Poopsmith quickly asphyxiates on the poison gas that Pom Pom was apparently filled with.
Peasant's Quest — Rather Dashing can die in a variety of ways throughout the game. The most noteworthy of these is when he gets burninated by Trogdor at the end of the game.
Homestarloween Party — Pom Pom's girls are vaporized by the Visor Robot.
KOT's VOQPCS! — The dragon is killed when speared by The Knight in the "instant death" section of his chest.
8-Bit is Enough — Coach Z is "killed" over and over again by scorpions at the Halfathlon.
hremail3184 — A paper is destroyed in the Lappy's explosion at the end of the email. Although it is not said which paper is killed, the following email, New Paper was replaced by Envelope Paper. Hence, it can be assumed that it was New Paper which was destroyed.
Marshie vs. Little Girl — Marshie calls Little Girl the "dead kid".
Homestarloween Party — The Goblin is crushed by the short-circuited Visor Robot.
Poker Night at the Inventory At one point Heavy says: "Beat me once, shame on me. Beat me twice, also shame on me. Beat me three times, I am sent to my death.
Email ghosts — In an Easter egg, it is possible to "kill" the Bad Graphics Ghost by erasing all of its pixels.
Bug In Mouth Disease — Homestar is revealed to have shot Caleb Rentpayer. Although Caleb's death cannot be confirmed, Tucksworth remarked that he wasn't breathing in the previous episode.
