The Fort Wayne Locomotive is the Old-Timey counterpart of Coach Z. He wears a 1930s football uniform with what appears to be a white "Z" emblazoned across the front. His name was revealed in the DVD Commentary for Ballad of The Sneak.

For a time, he didn't have a speaking role, despite having a Quote of the Week character head. The aforementioned commentary for Ballad of The Sneak mentioned him being in an unfinished toon. His first speaking role later took place in Sickly Sam's Big Outing, giving advice to Sickly Sam.

The fact that he plays for a team in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and has played against a team in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, refers to the early years of the National Football League. Most of the teams in the NFL were situated in the midwestern United States, mostly in states such as Wisconsin and Ohio.

The voice of The Fort Wayne Locomotive is similar to that of Ed Norton, a character on The Honeymooners portrayed by Art Carney. He also shares his voice with The Coach, a character in Teen Girl Squad.

The Z on his uniform, while obviously a reference to Coach Z, may also reference the Fort Wayne Pistons, whose mascot, a man made of pistons, had a Z on his chest, for Zollner, the team's owner.
