STRONG BAD: Gather 'round, everybody! It's email time! {starts reading email}

Hey Strong Bad,
I have a friend who is trying hard to be an
independent filmmaker. The problem is, his films
suck. How do I tell him he's wasting his life?

Signed,
FAF FAN #23

STRONG BAD: {typing} I got good news for you, #23. You're not alone. We've all got no-talent friends who refuse to quit chasing their dreams. That's why I've come up with my own line of greeting cards for just such occasions.

{cut to a greeting card with a picture of flowers on the front}

STRONG BAD: {voiceover} I've got ones for independent filmmakers.

VOICE ONE: {reading the card} On this special day, I thought I'd let you know how terrible your films are.

{cut to a second card with a cartoon drawing of a boy's head, with a thermometer in his mouth and a cold pack on his head}

STRONG BAD: {voiceover} People in terrible bands.

VOICE TWO: {reading the card} I'm sick! Of wasting my Fridays seeing your crappy band.

{cut to a third card with a picture of a sunset and a palm tree}

STRONG BAD: {voiceover} Web cartoonists.

VOICE THREE: {reading the card} Thinking of you...and how terrible your stupid Star Wars spoofs are.

{cut to a fourth card with a cartoon drawing of a bear behind the mic at a comedy club, signed L.S. '02}

STRONG BAD: {voiceover} And burgeoning stand-up comedians.

VOICE FOUR: {reading the card} Hey friend! Your stand up comedy is unBEARable!!

{cut back to the Tandy 400}

STRONG BAD: I mean, {typing} its [sic] not like these people don't know they suck, sometimes they just need a cute friendly reminder. Who knows? This could be the final straw that makes them give up and get some terrible office job instead. Or at the very least go to grad school. You know, like for an MBA. Or maybe try out for the NBA. I dunno. See ya later, 23.

Fun Facts

Explanations

  • At an appearence at the University of Central Florida in early 2004, both this e-mail and E-mail Birds were shown. Apparently they were both created to be shown at an independent film festival in 2002, hence the usage of the Tandy and the fact that the e-mail is about crappy independent films. The independent film festival was organized by Future Animators of the Future and was shown in Boston and New York City.
  • The line "Thinking of you...and how terrible your stupid Star Wars spoofs are." refers to the fact that when The Brothers Chaps started H*R, most Flash projects on the 'net were various Star Wars spoofs, as they've mentioned in several interviews.
    • Strong Bad's remark about Star Wars spoofs may also be a reference to Star Wars Spoofs.

Trivia

  • The voice reading the first card sounds very similar to the voice of Cinderblock from "2 years". The alternating voices are pretty obviously Mike and Matt.
  • You can hear the hum in the background when Strong Bad talks, implying that this was recorded before they got a better mic and thus is an authentic old email.

Goofs

  • Strong Bad uses the improper form of "its" near the end of the email. (It should be "it's".)

Inside References

  • The drawing of the bear on the fourth card is apparently done by Lem Sportsinterviews.
  • The music is from the email CGNU.
