About two years ago, I had my name changed so it would reflect my HRFWiki username, however, I had no idea the accounts would be linked after the purge and I'd have no access to my previous one there, and my current one isn't really appropriate for the fanstuff wiki and may cause confusion. So when you get back, could it be possible for you to rename my new cross-account to JCM, so it could be more recognizable to both sides from now on? I promise I won't bother you anymore after this. {{User:HRjcm/sig}} 23:15, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Revision as of 23:15, 1 February 2010

The user name users choose for themselves is no longer set in stone. On request, bureaucrats can change user account settings and article histories such that all previous edits of a given user are attributed to the new name using Special:Renameuser. Note: You must make the request from the account you want renamed; anonymous requests (except users whose usernames begin with a lowercase letter and therefore cannot log in) are ignored for security reasons.

Requesting a change

To change your user name, please make your request on this page. Please follow the procedure carefully or your request will not be fulfilled.

Instructions

  1. Check if the new name you want does not exist (Special:Listusers). Do not create an account under the new name. (If you already created the new account, don't worry. We can do some stuff and fix it, but it's still recommended that you don't.)
  2. Sign in with the account that you want renamed.
Of course, this is not possible if your account has a lowercase first letter. If you can't log in, then skip this step.
  3. Add your request to the bottom of the section below. Use the following template: {{renameuser|Old username|New username}}
  4. Once your request is dealt with, all edits from your old account will be reattributed to your new account.
  5. Move and redirect your user page and talk page to the new name if it has not already been done.

Current requests

Please use this template for new requests: {{renameuser|Old username|New username}}

Peter222

I don't really like my username. To many 2's. If you get rid of one it'll bother me less. Thank you.-PeterImage:Petersig.png

On your user page, you state "I also despise my username", which says to me that you would not want to be stuck with Peter22. In order to avoid having to change your name a second time, I'm just going to wait till you come up with something you like as opposed to something that doesn't bother you as much. — It's dot com 03:53, 15 June 2008 (UTC)::The excessive two's are the only reasons I dislike it. If I have one less I'd be fine with it and probably wouldn't change it again. Peter22 would not bother me at all.-PeterImage:Petersig.png
That's not what you said above. Your signature is just "Peter", so how about that? — It's dot com 04:16, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

MICGAGUH

Make the color of mine red, yellow, blue and purple. User:MICGAGUH

Um, wrong page. Try HRWiki:Signature. That was written when this looked like a simple request for a sig, but I don't know that putting in all the periods really helps anything. --Jay (Talk) 19:21, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, this is for changing the actual username. For what comes up when you type "~~~~", then you can ask anybody, or change it yourself anytime. But only Bureaucrats can change your username. Thy Not Dennis (t/c) 19:32, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Well, Mr. I Can't Get A Good Username Here, instead of adding periods to your name, why don't we come up with a good username for you instead. Having to enter all those periods when you log in or when someone mentions you by name would probably get real old real fast. — It's dot com 19:29, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Okay how about The Username Searcher? User:MICGAGUH
MICGAGUH, you have the opportunity to think for a while about your username, and you should take this opportunity to do that. You don't have to have a username that implies you can't get a good username. Unless that's what you really want, in which case, I can't change it. But say so and a Bureaucrat will. Thy Not Dennis (t/c) 15:16, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
Uh, what's a Bureaucrat? User:MICGAGUH
I'm a bureaucrat, but that's really not important. What is important is that you need to pick an actual name if you expect it to get changed. — It's dot com 17:05, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
I already got user files on Wikipedia and the Super Mario Wiki! I'm not saying who, but I'm not using those names! User:MICGAGUH
Why not? I have a Wikipedia account and my user name there is similar to my user name here (not identical because it's too common and someone else already claimed it, but similar enough.) --Jay (Talk) 18:54, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Also, who cares what your names are there. The only thing that's relevant here is tht you pick an actual name for this wiki. — It's dot com 19:46, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
If you really want me to, change into Freakazoid or fight King Hippo in Punch-Out!! Wii User: MICGAGUH
Pick the one you want. Change the template at the top of this thread. Be aware that I'm not going to change your name more than once, so be sure you like what you go with. — It's dot com 02:40, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

E.L. Cool

No one called me E.L. Cool in a long time. Also, I switched to the shorter form on most other sites. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 21:18, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Done. I don't think I've ever tested changing a sysop's name before. It should be fine, but let me know if anything went awry permissions-wise. — It's dot com 23:22, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Thank you! Looks like everything is in place. Even tried to delete a page and it's all cool. My sig is literally on almost every talk page. Should that stay, or can some bot fix it? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 07:40, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
There's no need to fix it en masse, especially since this was less of a name change and more of just a style change. Better and easier to just let the redirect do its thing. — It's dot com 22:35, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

I think it looks better. And that's about it. Homestar-Winner (talk) 04:41, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, DC! But now I'm having trouble logging in on Firefox for some reason: See? When I type in "Homestar-Winner" is loads as "Homestar-winner". Now I'm logged in using Safari. Do you has the solution? Homestar-Winner (talk) 17:03, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
Clear your cache? — It's dot com 17:18, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
Or your dns cache? (Windows: in CMD, ipconfig /flushdns -- Linux/Ubuntu: Click Here) ColdReactive 17:34, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
Hey, DC, no matter what I do, it still keeps logging me in as "Homestar-winner" in Firefox. If it isn't too much trouble, could you maybe change my user name back to "Homestar-winner" so I can start editing in Firefox again? That has been the reason why I haven't made many edits lately... Homestar-Winner (talk) 16:08, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Instead of just treating the symptom, I think we should try to figure out what the problem is instead. Close all Firefox tabs except for a blank one. Go to Tools > Clear Recent History. Choose Everything from the drop-down menu and make sure all the checkboxes are checked. Then press Clear Now. Close Firefox, and for good measure restart your computer. Then try again. — It's dot com 19:58, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

guybrush20X6

Need it changed due to this "no small letters first" thing.

The user "guybrush20X6" does not exist. — It's dot com 19:58, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Just read that thing about signing in seperatly on the forum and the wiki. Do I just create a wiki acount?
Yep. They're separate databases. — It's dot com 18:58, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

I want to have the same name that I do on the forum. It would just be alot more convenient for me. Thanks! — 97.127.49.58 (Talk | contribs) 01:26, 24 December 2009 (UTC) (left unsigned)
