Matt on Twitter

So, one of my followers did a Follow Friday for someone named Ron Planet, saying they were the voice of Strong Bad. I followed them and it seems like it really is Matt, and he has some unofficial answers to questions being posted by users here on the wiki. Here's the link to his Twitter page: [1]--The Swedish Ace 01:10, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

STUFF namespace

Since STUFF has been dead for years and there aren't even any pages in the STUFF namespace, should that namespace still exist? RickTommy (edits) 10:20, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Website Dead?

Alright, there hasn't been an OFFICIAL toon or update or anything since December 22, 2010. In internet terms, this site is DEAD. — 98.219.157.1111 (Talk | contribs) 6:42, 15 September 2011 (UTC) (left unsigned)

It's not dead as long as it's still being hosted, and it is. What's more, we just recently got some info from the Bros. Chaps, admittedly not on the website, indicating that they're still around. Besides, even if it was dead, what impact would that have on this Wiki? --Jay (Talk) 23:56, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
Matt's on Twitter and he's said a few times that he really wants to get back into the business of making flash cartoons. I, for one, think we'll see a legit halloween toon this year. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 00:33, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

Well, I don't think the wiki is dead. I mean you even contributed to it by posting a message. Also, it doesn't matter what fans think. One of TBC even posted a teaser for a new sbemail. It's just a matter of having patience. Tenerence Love  17:22, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Sounds promising...

From Matt's twitter: "no one in their right mind would willingly stop making Homestar cartoons for a living. #needlesslycryptic" o.O

Woah

I just rediscovered this place after, about what 3 years? There was a remembrance thread about H*R on /co/ and I remembered this place and still remembered my username so I typed it in and Bam, I just gotta say, wow, I look like such a kid back in '08 its unbelievable how much Ive seemed to change. but yeah the point I guess here is to just say thanks to anyone still here for bearing with me for my formative years on the Internet, I remember really loving this place. :) 06:59, 9 October 2011 (UTC) Coach B| PRANK CALL!|

I feel the same way myself about my looking like a kid here...See, back when I was on the forum as TheHumanScreenshot (and occasionally on the wiki as Mr. Screenshot), I had a habit of linking to a really lame crossover webcomic I wrote at the time everywhere that I could, including my userpage on the wiki, the Comic Sightings page (to this day, I'm still afraid to go there to see if what I wrote has been edited since then), and several forum threads. Once I started learning how dumb my comic was, I quit posting to the forum and stopped logging in on the wiki out of shame. To this day, if I want an edit made to an article, I will usually hope someone else makes it for me, occasionally post anonymously to the talk page about it, and, very rarely, make the edit myself (also anonymously); I also have gone back to merely lurking on the forum.
Maybe someday I'll start logging in again, have my username changed to something unrelated to my comic, and start being an active member of the wiki, but I'm still reluctant to right now...
Welcome back, by the way! Er...I mean, I don't know if we ever met on the forum, seeing as how I don't remember seeing your username, but welcome back anyway :) 71.42.230.20 02:41, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

wiki-exclusive

We always knew we were special. Its is nice when the TBC give us a nod, whether it be exclusive content or contribution during a pledge drive. I wonder if there are enough of these occurrences to warrant its own page? I R F 11:05, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

TMBG ALBUM

A song from sbemails (200 sbemails to be precise) is being released on TMBG's new album "New Album Raises New and Troubling Questions" Notable news to be added to the page?

I think a note in the Fun Facts or somewhere on email thunder would suffice, with appropriate mentions on They Might Be Giants and links to the relevant places on This Might Be a Wiki (like Album Raises New And Troubling Questions). I don't think it needs to be added to "What's new?". -- Tom 19:27, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Holiday logo changeover

Logo bug

And speaking of the logo, there is a problem with it that I and a couple of others have experienced: sometimes, it does not move out of view when scrolling down - the big word Wiki stays at the top of the screen, and there is a white box the size of the logo that just stays there. What is causing this problem? RickTommy (edits) 04:11, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Could not reproduce. — It's dot com 04:16, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
RickTommy, are you using Firefox? Hovering over the left arrow button (back button) while at the top of the page brings down a strange white box that does not appear on any other element. un-hovering fixes that, but it re-appears if you hover it again. It only happens on the HRWiki logo, and no where else. ColdReactive 09:58, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Cookie issue

In Chrome, whenever I go to the forum from the wiki while logged in, then back to the wiki, I find myself logged out. Yet when I go back to my previous wiki session, I strangely find myself logged back in. What is causing this problem? RickTommy (edits) 05:27, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

If I'm right, the specific browser isn't relevant. My guess is you're logged in to hrwiki.org (without the www), but the forum links back to www.hrwiki.org, which for technical reasons that we haven't ever fixed is treated like a separate site. A workaround for the issue is to log in to both hrwiki.org and www.hrwiki.org. — It's dot com 19:35, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

AWESOMEST IDEA EVER

Mike and Matt read the wiki, right? Maybe someone could change the main page of the wiki to look like this and Mike and/or Matt will see it and think "Those people want us to make more H*R toons, let's do it!" -- Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 21:01, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

Good idea or not a good idea? YOU decide! -- Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 02:36, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
Very bad idea. Makes us look desperate, and let's be honest: do you really think that Mike and Matt believe we don't want to see more H*R toons? --Jay (Talk) 06:03, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Did you know that right-clicking on the logo and selecting "play" will cause it to toggle between, in this order:

  • Homestar in hat?
  • Homestar in mistletoe?
  • Marzipan with lights in hair?
  • Strong Bad in hat?

It's pretty cool. You should check it out if you didn't know.--Strongstarhomebad 16:39, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

Trogdor?

Usually on Jan. 13th, the site changes it's Wiki logo and the fading background for the feature article and the H*R site updates with Trogdor. For some reason, it's not happening. Can anyone update it before Trogday is over? — GBAura

Sure, why not. I had forgotten just how much majesty that design has. — It's dot com 20:30, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
Nice work, though the faded background (the part on the main page of the Wiki with the offical H*R site and the week's featured article) just shows Homestar and Strong Bad. Isn't that suppose to be just Trogdor on that certain day because I remember it being there long ago when the wiki was celebrating that faithful day. — GBAura
I can see Trogdor in that background, across the divided halves of the main page. Not sure what might be going wrong on your end. DC - this is awesome; thanks for putting it up. When can it be added to Special:Logos? The Knights Who Say Ni 22:53, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
GBAura: You need to do a hard refresh of your browser. Knights: Yeah, I need to add the PNG and GIF logos to that page. — It's dot com 00:24, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
Oh, I see. I hate to be rude, but do you think the layout should extend until the end of Jan 14th? Since the update for Trogday came a lot later, some users might feel left out to miss the little event, since I was impressed that the update was fantastic. — GBAura

More specifically, is it still showing up for you? RickTommy (edits) 11:56, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
The non-Flash logo (which you see if you don't have Flash enabled for whatever reason) was still set to Trogdor. Fixed, thanks. — It's dot com 00:38, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Stop SOPA day?

I don't want to get political or nothing, but I've noticed that Wikipedia and the Wikia network have shut down in protest against SOPA. Did we ever consider that? --Jellote wuz here 19:46, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Do you see a discussion anywhere? — It's dot com 20:01, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
I wouldn't say "shut down", since all content is still loading as normal for any page you visit. The blackout is just a simple hiding of the main divs and a big div overlapping the whole thing. Very simple to undo with some CSS injections! Not that this is any kind of useful response to what you asked, but I can never resist the opportunity to correct people about technical things. :) That said, I don't see any real reason for HRWiki to follow along other than the silly "hey if wikipedia is doing it and we're a wiki too..." mentality. Anyone who uses HRWiki is likely to use Wikipedia too. --71.72.43.213 20:05, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
I would say Wikipedia is shut down. A tech-savvy user can get around the block, but the typical user doesn't know how to. (This is actually one of the chief complaints about SOPA/PIPA—that advanced users will go right on pirating data while regular folks trying to do regular things are left out in the cold.)
I don't know how SOPA/PIPA would affect us directly. Certainly we use a lot of copyrighted material, but almost all of it is from one source, and we've always said that we would take down the wiki immediately at the Chaps' request. I'm also fuzzy on how all the foreign vs. domestic stuff works, although one point of the protests is that the bills are worded so vaguely that you could make whatever case you wanted to if you try hard enough. — It's dot com 21:08, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Let HRWiki Users Customize the Site Content For Personal Use?

This is an idea I got recently and it might make the site a little more enjoyable, though I doubt it's possible. Whenever there was an event going on in real life (like St. Patrick's day, Halloween, etc.) or a special event in the H*R universe, the site changes it's content (the little site icon on the search bar, the color bar on the front page, the character block on the top left corner the background, the front page with Homestar and Strong Bad, etc.) to let users know that HRWiki is celebrating this occasion.

However, some like certain layouts like this and they wanted to keep it up, though it's made to be there for a limited time only and to the others, they don't want it to stay like this. With this option, users can change the layout content to their desire without causing a fuss to others (for example, if I want to use the layout for Trogdor all time though it's made for Trogday, I can change it to that in my personal settings). I was also thinking that users can change the layout to their favorite HomeStarRunner characters (minor characters still count, since they DO get attention as well). This might be a big project as Wiki Users can make H*R related layouts for others to use. Here's the list for some of the layouts to choose from if the option was available:

Major characters: Homestar (Default, Halloween, Decemberween, St. Patrick's, Valentines?, Winter, New Years Day, even the outdated skin HRWiki once had before switching to GIF and SWF), Marzipan, Pom Pom, Strong Bad, Strong Sad, Strong Mad, The Cheat, Coach Z, Bubs, King of Town, The Poopsmith and Homsar.

All the Major characters can also have seasonal themes to them, like what Homestar has. Also, if an event like Trogday uses the Trogdor seen at the top left, a different design has to be made so others can tell them from apart from the Trogdor that can be used as a custom skin for the other users.

Minor characters: Marshie, Trogdor, The King of Town's Servants, Rejected Characters, The Goblin, Visor Robot, The Yello Dello and Nebulon (we should give it some style!).

Sub-universes: Teen Girl Squad, 4 Gregs, Powered by The Cheat, Puppet Homestar, Cheat Commandos, Peasantry, Limozeen: "but they're in space!", Folk Tale World, Dangeresque, Sweet Cuppin' Cakes, Old-Timey, 20X6 and Xeriouxly Forxe.

Misc Character Variations: Videlectrix Styled Characters, Atari Styles Characters (Fan-made ones are welcome), Old Styled Characters (Throwback)

Others can contribute, add and suggest more layout styles, but the things I stated above are my examples, if not most of them. Though keep in mind that if they make new layouts for other to use, they should be in the category for the Homestar Universe (for obvious reasons).

I am thinking that this option is only available to users who are logged in or have an account, so that means non-users are stuck with the default one that changes depending on which season, though if possible, anyone can use this option, no matter if they are registered or not. I am aware that letting users choosing seasonal skins isn't a good idea since it sorta ruins the point of people using the Wiki for Holiday changes. I suspect that when the "Personal" tab gets added or something added to let users change their skin settings, the site will go back to the 'default' Homestar. GBAura (Talk | contribs) 23:43, 22 January 2012 (UTC) (left unsigned)

It's already possible to customise your own personal CSS. I myself keep the Halloween theme up all year round. --DorianGray 23:55, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
The word your looking for is style/presentation, not content. Content is the opposite of presentation, and good websites keep them entirely separate. Like Dorian said, you can use a custom stylesheet for the site with the help of a browser extension, but I agree that having several styles available for the user to conveniently choose would be nice. --71.72.43.213 00:48, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Can you link to all the monobooks so people can use them? Also, can someone switch to the default Homestar? GBAura (Talk | contribs) 12:03, 2 February 2012 (UTC) (left unsigned)
Your MonoBook CSS page (no matter who you are, as long as you're logged in) is located here. If you're looking for examples of MonoBook CSS pages in use by other users, you can browse the User namespace and look for pages ending in "monobook.css". — It's dot com 14:38, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
