[edit] Edible Phone

Class Prez's phone model, "CRKR" (short for "Cracker"), is a play on four-letter Motorola cellular phone models such as the ROKR and the RAZR. The name itself is also a play on the recent naming of cell phones after foods like the LG Chocolate and the BlackBerry. This could also explain why Class Prez's phone has a bite taken out of it.

Note: only the part of the fact in bold is being voted on; the first part has been accepted and is included only for context.

Arguments for:

  • I fail to see why this was removed. In fact, the two halfs of CRKR even resemble crackers (Note the cracker-esqe divots/texture on the back panals of the phone.) Since cell phones, like the Chocolate, are advertised as being 'delicious' nowadays, it seems that this is a very valid observation and not just a coincidence.
  • It is possible.
  • Re last arg against: the addition is fine, and it ties into modern times.

Arguments against:

  • Connecting it to phones like the LG Chocolate and the BlackBerry is a stretch. Saying that it's a reference so many things puts it dangerously in TTATOT territory.
  • This version has too many "could"s in it.
  • There are only two food-phones.
  • The Blackberry and Chocolate were released too far apart to be considered part of the same phenomenon.
  • The old version (accepted 20 to Nothing, by the way) is fine. This has an unnecessary addition.

Additional comments:

  • I think the joke is killing two bird with one stone: Motorola and their lame four letter names and the advertising of phones like the Chocolate, considering LG is promoting the phone like it was an actual candy bar. It has different 'flavors' and the thing's wrapped up like candy. Class Prez took his CRKR a bit literally; after all it does look like a cracker. So I think though the original fact could use a little rewording, but shouldn't competely neglect the food aspect of the joke like the one proposed below.
    • I see your point, but I don't think the connection is strong enough between chocolate and crackers. Yes, they're both foods, but very different kinds of foods. The reason for the involvement of crackers could just as easily be about the thinness of Motorola's phones (notice also that the CRKR is very similar in style to the RAZR). I think both explanations are unsupported speculation; the only thing we know for sure is that the name is a reference to Motorola's names.

Proposed revision:

Class Prez's phone model, "CRKR" (short for "Cracker"), is a play on four-letter Motorola cellular phone models such as the ROKR and the RAZR. The name itself could also explain why Class Prez's phone has a bite taken out of it, since it's named after a food product, like the LG Chocolate.
Note: only the part of the fact in bold is being voted on; the first part has been accepted and is included only for context.

Arguments for:

  • This revision, i think, helps focus more on the fact the the phone is named after a food than comparing it to a popular phone.

Arguments against:

  • The first part is true, but it explains the joke.
  • The content of this is exactly the same as the original fun fact.

[edit] Who doesn't like cloth?

The wizard's line: "So you like cloth?" is a reference to many fantasy games in which wizards are restricted to cloth armor.

From: Teen Girl Squad Issue 12
Posted on: 02:19, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Arguments for:

  • Its a widely known requirement in roleplaying games (see here).
  • The wizard is wearing cloth armor.
  • The wizard is trying to find common ground, a common strategy in many relationships.
  • In response to the first argument against this, it's possible that the similar line about cloth earlier was made as a way to set up for this joke (how else could he know she likes cloth?). I've seen people setting up for jokes like that in lots of similar ways in webcartoons.

Arguments against:

  • What's Her Face says a similar line about liking cloth earlier in the toon before the Wireless Wizard is introduced. I think that the second appearance of the line is a reference to the first, rather than to wizards' armor.
  • This is not a RPG wizard, it's a technological wizard, and he's making the same "what ought I to say to this person?" comment WHF made earlier. No reason this should be influenced by any RPG.

Additional comments:

  • Where do links go when you STUFF?
    • You can put them in the fact, like above, unless you just want to use them for the STUFF discussion.

[edit] Four-letter words

Class Prez's phone model, "CRKR" (short for "Cracker"), is a play on four-letter Motorola cellular phone models such as the ROKR and the RAZR.

From: Teen Girl Squad Issue 12
Posted on: 21:37, 13 February 2007

Arguments for:

  • This version pares the fact down to simply the part about the four-letter Motorola names.

Arguments against:

Additional comments:

  • The part about the phone being made out of crackers has been removed too — without the bit about the food-named phones, it's not necessary to point out.
    • It wasn't really necessary anyway, since the transcript states that the phone is made of two crackers, one with a bite out of it.
  • I think the joke here was that crackers are thin like razors. But also breakable, which would be funny.
