Editing Problems

The "Edit Button" on a page I'm creating has gome away but I want to add more. What do I do?

There should be an edit tab at the tippy-top of the page regardless of there not being an [edit] button. Hope this helps. —BazookaJoe 04:27, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Email Tryouts: Pass or Fail?

How do I know if I officially passed of failed. I just got a reply that said Pa-pa-pa-pass. Is this an official pass or just an opinion?

...Are we talking about the email tryouts on Fanstuff? If so, here is not the place. You should bring it up on the Email tryouts talk page. Bluebry 00:24, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

UTC

What does (UTC) mean?

Coordinated Universal Time. More information here. Hagurumon 00:28, 2 June :2007 (UTC)

How can you tell?

I was wondering, how can you tell if people are sysops?

Go here for a list of sysops. Hagurumon 03:21, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

"Reverted edit N by User (Talk) (reason)"

I see this particular message all the time in edit histories, usually when someone reverts vandalism. However, unless I type it out manually and go to find the edit number myself, I never seem to get that message when I go to revert. Is that message the result of some sysop-only feature? Or is it a button or automatic function I've somehow missed? Just curious. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 21:09, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

That's the "undo revision" feature, new in MediaWiki 1.9. -- Tom 21:27, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Really? I've seen messages in that format a lot longer than MediaWiki 1.9 has been around. Odd... — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 22:43, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
You may be remembering the rollback feature, which has been available to sysops for a while and leaves a similar message, but the undo function just came out and is available to all users. Trey56 22:47, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Ah, I see. That explains it - thanks. :) — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 22:48, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

UB question

can you create your own Userboxes? If so do the pictures you put in them automaticly format so they are small?Foogs 14:05, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes, you can create your own userboxes, provided that they are Homestar Runner-related. Images are not automatically formatted, but you can do it by specifying the the width of the image like so: [[Image:FILENAME|41px]] (the number of pixels might need to be tweaked depending on the height of the image. Hope that helps, Trey56 14:46, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the help i just made one. is it allowed to put it on the UB page?Foogs 14:54, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Sure — if you think other people would be interested in using it, go ahead and add it to HRWiki:Userbox. Trey56 17:28, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Are you allowed to have images on your page?

Are you allowed to have images on your userpage here? Because some other wikis don't allow that unless they're personal images. I think it would be a good idea to ask first. Johnny Ohm Talk ??? 01:16, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Sure, go right ahead! You can use pretty much any image you want, even another user's personal image. Speaking of personal images, you are only allowed to have two of them. See our personal image policy for more info. Has Matt? (talk) 01:23, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Why is my comment getting "STUFFED"?

I tried twice to add an entry under "Real-World References," but my comment was immediately deleted. I actually wasn't the only one; someone else tried to add a similar comment and couldn't. Any idea why? — Maristredfox (Talk | contribs) 13:29, 28 June 2007 (UTC) (left unsigned)

It's because we have to vote on it before it can get put up. But, it will probably be accepted. TheThin 13:41, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
Actually, we have already voted on that one. It was overwhemingly declined. It's dot com 15:01, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
It's been temporarily reinstated to allow you to participate, and your vote has been recorded. I wouldn't hold my breath, though. — It's dot com 17:09, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Why don't we have a commons?

You know, like the Wikipedia one. Homsar44withpie 16:12, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

We don't need one. -- Tom 16:14, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
I think it's a good idea. I already submitted it on Da Basement. The Goblin!! 23:07, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

forum troubles

i tried to find an admin to ask this through the forums but could not find a way to contact, besides through the wiki.

anyway, i have been trying to access my account for a while now (on the forums) and every time i log in it tells me that it is inactive, i am not sure what that means besides the fact that I cannot log into my account. if anyone has the knowledge of what i could do, or has the power to fix it, that would be grand.

my username is coopoo18 coopoo18@gmail.com

Userboxes

how do I make user boxes?

See HRWiki:Userbox. — It's dot com 02:04, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

how do you make the userboxes normal?

i put userboxes on my user page, but it looks kind of freakish and not like other user pages' pages Kermit1234 03:18, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

They look normal to me. The Goblin!! 03:21, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Hey there, Kermit1234 — I fixed them for you. For the benefit of others who might have the same problem (it's pretty common, from what I've seen), I'll post part of my reply on your talk page here:
To fix them, I put each userbox on a separate line, added {{userboxtop}} on a line above them all, and added |} on a line below them all.
Hope that helps, and see you around! Trey56 03:24, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

two little questions about images

hello again FAQ page

1. Can I use someone else's personal signature picture in mine?

2. Which thing do i select under Licensing (on the upload page) if i made the image myself and it doesn't have any copyrighted stuff on it?

thanks a bunch <Kermit1234> 18:15, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

1 - You can't. It's their image.
2 - I'd put it under the copyright of "Promotional photo". Unless anybody disagrees. Hope this helps you. User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 18:21, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Hey there, Kermit. The answer to you questions depends on a couple things:
1. As long as the personal image is a Homestar Runner image, then you can use it for yourself. The intellectual property doesn't belong to whomever's personal image it is. If it's something they actually made themselves, then you'd have to ask permission from them, though.
2. I would probably pick "Used with permission". That one's safe, even if one of the others would fit better.
Hope that helps, and let me know if you have a question about a particular image. Trey56 18:24, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

redirect

um...how do you create a redirect page? I want to create a page called RC that redirects to my userpage, since I'm sometimes known as RC instead of Religious Corn   21:13, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't think users are allowed to have redirects. — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 21:19, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
They aren't. — Lapper (talk) 21:21, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

another question

Um...there's a line going through the top of my userbox, how do I fix this? Religious Corn   21:28, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

And what is the (top) for on my list of Contributions? Religious Corn   21:34, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
It is the most recent edit to a certain page. Homestar-Winner (talk) 21:36, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
More specifically, it means that your edit to that page (those labeled with "top") is the last edit made on that page. Same thing applies when looking at other people's contributions. --Stux 18:47, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

__yeseditsection__

Why is there a __NOEDITSECTION__ on the FAQ? That just makes the page harder to edit. — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 12:20, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

The FAQ page is meant to inform new useers. __NOEDITSECTION__ allows the (EDIT) links to be hidden, improving readability. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 19:11, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Translations!

I was wondering: When I translate the sbEmails' subtitles, do I have to make intentional grammar mistakes, like the ones in the real email?

If translating that way will keep the translation true to the original, then yes, include them. I'm not sure if we include the [sic] notation in subtitles, but this is where it would be applicable. — Lapper (talk) 00:49, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
So, If the grammatical error aren't vital for the storyline of the toon, I should put it correct?--We do what we must, because we can! 00:54, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Remember, we are transcribing the spoken words, which should always be spelled correctly unless an intentional reference to the poor spelling (i.e., a weird pronumciation or such) is made. The apostrophe song might not make any sense in a foreign language without apostrophes, for example, so it's going to be impossible to perfectly make the transcript make sense in all cases, so best to be accurate to what was said. Are we sending The Brothers Chaps a 2007 Decemberween(Christmas) card?

If so, I want to sign it. realy. realy. badly. Haldo 20:49, 11 November 2007 (UTC) User:haldo

We already discussed the slippery slope that would ensue if we began sending The Brothers Chaps cards for every occasion. We're not sending them a card for anything other than their birthdays. — Lapper (talk) 20:54, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
And even then we're not making it a habit. — It's dot com 15:02, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

How do I make text and other things stay on the right of a page?

How? - 1-Up Cheatachu 20:13, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

You can use the <div> tag, specifically:
<div style="text-align:right">
right-aligned stuff goes here
</div>

SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 20:18, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

How do I align, say, a Userbox to the right side? - 1-Up Cheatachu 20:22, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

If you use {{userboxtop}}, it should align right by default. — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 20:36, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
