Today the Main Page, tomorrow the world!

The Main Pages are the themed menu pages for homestarrunner.com. Every time a viewer enters through the Index Page, a random Main Page will load. This also happens when returning from another area of the site, although certain toons (usually holiday toons) have set Main Pages they will always return to.

The Main Pages consist of Homestar Runner (or one of his variations) standing in the foreground, with "Toons", "Games", "Characters", "Downloads", "Store", and "E-mail" buttons to the left, with the exception of Main Page 23, which has them to the right. Rolling over these with the cursor results in Homestar usually reading them aloud, while certain events relating to the theme occur in proximity to Homestar.

These pages contain links to the material of the site including the Quote of the Week, Weekly Fanstuff, and the Sketchbook. They also have recent updates located in the top-right corner. This reads, "Go on and see what's new!" above a bubble which cycles through the latest toon, merchandise, and the games menu in succession. This button used to cycle through updates whether the mouse pointer was on it or not, but it no longer cycles to the next item if the mouse is on it, so the viewer won't miss something and have to wait through the whole sequence. Clicking on the Homestar Runner logo at the top left takes the viewer to the Museum. There is also a "First Time Here?" button located near the updates, which links to a cartoon of Homestar Runner screwing up a welcome speech for the website.

Current List

These are all of the Main Pages that can be accessed from the bottom-left menu on each page.

Other Main Pages

There are a few other Main Pages that can not be accessed through the menu.

Easter Eggs

  • Clicking the last digit of the copyright years (currently the "1" in 2021) on each Main Page takes you to the Homsar Main Page. This Main Page is also accessible as an Easter egg in interview.

Fun Facts

Trivia

  • The only Main Pages that have Homestar in his regular outfit, size, and style are Main Pages 8, 18, 19, 23, and 24. Of these, Main Page 18 is the only one where nothing special happens with Homestar; he merely stands at the front facing forward and says the various words.
  • With the exception of Main Pages 10, 12, 19 and 25, Homestar's voice will play over top of itself. Homsar's and the King of Town's voices will also play over top of themselves, but not Strong Bad's.
  • The copyright date was changed from "2004" to "2005" on February 21, 2005.
  • The copyright date was changed from "2005" to "2006" on January 8, 2006.
  • The copyright date was changed from "2006" to "2007" on January 14, 2007, except on Main Page 23.
  • The copyright date on Main Page 23 was changed from "2005" to "2007" on July 24, 2007.
  • The copyright date was changed from "2007" to "2008" on April 11, 2008, except on Main Page 24, which was updated on or before August 25, 2008.
  • The copyright date was changed from "2008" to "2009" on January 26, 2009, except on Main Page 23.
  • The copyright date was changed from "2009" to "2010" on April 12, 2010. Main Page 23 was also updated at this time.
  • The copyright date was changed from "2010" to "2021" on December 31, 2020. This was also when the website underwent a complete redesign for the discontinuation of Flash.

Glitches

  • When using the Wii to access the Main Pages, listening to the Quote of the Week causes the navigation button sounds to play at half-pitch.
  • The original audio files of Homestar saying the words "toons", "games", "store", etc., each contain a noticeable audio click at their beginning and end.
    • This is a common error in sound production when the audio cuts off abruptly instead of fading out.
    • All Main Pages utilizing the original files contain this audio glitch, even on much later pages, but Main Pages which use alternative sounds, such as Main Page 13, do not have these problems.

Fixed Glitches

  • Prior to the post-Flash site update, if you clicked on the navigation buttons from the left-hand menu area, dragged your mouse away from the menu area, and let go, you could make certain effects persist. You could even combine more than one effect, sometimes producing unexpected results. (Other buttons throughout the site behave in a similar manner.) See Main Page Glitches for a complete listing.
    • You could use this trick for at least one effect on all of the Main Pages except 7, 12, 19, 23, and 25. For the trick to work, the effect had to persist as long as you hold down the mouse bottom.
    • You could use this trick with all six effects on Main Page 11. If you do "downloads" first and "store" second, all six effects can be seen at once. This is the only Main Page (including the hidden ones) on which you can see all six effects at once.
