Strong Bad's Teaser Costumes
From Homestar Runner Wiki
Beginning in 2007, prior to a full Halloween toon being released, a teaser would be posted showing all the characters in silhouette. Strong Bad's teaser costume is always an elaborate and recognizable sci-fi/horror figure that doesn't fit Strong Bad's proportions, and is never actually in the finished toon (with the exception of Halloween Hijinks, due to the teaser and toon being combined as one).
Image | Costume | Comments | Source |
---|---|---|---|
The Alien | The Alien species is the extraterrestrial antagonist of the Alien film series.
In Jibblies 2, Strong Bad says they were sold out of this costume. Coach Z refers to it as simply "the alien", prompting Strong Sad to frantically interject with "xenomorph". This is the only teaser costume that has been mentioned in the Halloween toon. | Jibblies 2 Teaser | |
Predator | Predators are an extraterrestrial race of powerful hunters featured in the Predator science-fiction franchise. The Predator franchise has had occasional crossovers with the Alien franchise, the source of Strong Bad's previous teaser costume. | Most in the Graveyard Teaser | |
RoboCop | RoboCop is a robotically-enhanced Detroit police officer, the main protagonist in the sci-fi series of the same name. | Doomy Tales of the Macabre Teaser | |
Arachnid | The Arachnids (commonly referred to as "Bugs") are a planet-colonizing extraterrestrial race in the Starship Troopers franchise. | Halloween Safety | |
Graboid | The Graboid is a monstrous species of sandworm that serve as the main antagonist of the Tremors series.
This is the design from the Tremors movie poster — an enlarged version of one of the creature's tentacles — rather than the actual monster design in the film. The entire teaser visually references said poster, including the position of the moon. | The House That Gave Sucky Tricks Teaser | |
The Demogorgon | The Demogorgon, named after the Dungeons & Dragons character, is the antagonistic creature which attacks from another dimension (the Upside Down) in Stranger Things.
Unlike previous years, the costume shows movement (the mouth opens and closes when talking). Strong Bad comments in the teaser that he wishes he'd followed through with his silhouette costumes. | Later That Night... Teaser | |
Ridley | Ridley is a draconic space pirate hailing from the planet Zebes, one of the main antagonists of the Metroid series. This sprite specifically was used in the game Super Metroid.
This costume again shows movement. It screeches, eats Character 2, and flies offscreen. | Haunted Photo Booth Teaser | |
BigDog | BigDog is a quadruped military robot built by Boston Dynamics. This is the first (and so far only) costume to be non-fictional in origin.
This costume again shows movement, as he jumps up and down and slightly leans back when Humidibot talks to him. | Mr. Poofers Must Die Teaser | |
The Thing | The Thing is a parasitic extraterrestrial life-form that assimilates then imitates other organisms in the film of the same name. The creature takes on many forms in the movie; Strong Bad's costume specifically portrays a scene when the Thing, in the form of character Norris’s severed head, grows legs and eye stalks.
This is the first of Strong Bad's costumes since 2015 to not show movement in the teaser, though the storybook characters do. | The Homestar Runner Enters The Spooky Woods Teaser | |
A sandworm | An enormous worm-like supernatural creature that lives in the endless deserts of Saturn, as seen in the movie Beetlejuice.
Interestingly, Strong Bad previously dressed up as Beetlejuice himself in Jibblies 2. | Halloween Hijinks | |
Chaos | Chaos is an evil entity bent on destruction from the LucasArts game Loom.
Upon examining it in Version 2.0 or 2.1, Homestar comments "Nice try, Dodongo". In the actual toon, The Poopsmith dresses as Cobb from the same game. | Halloween Hide & Seek | |
Power Loader | The P-5000 Powered Work Loader is a mechanized exoskeleton seen in the movie Aliens. Designed for industrial use in loading ships, it is most well known for its use in the climactic final scene where Ellen Ripley uses it to fight off the alien queen. Strong Bad previously dressed as the alien itself in the Jibblies 2 teaser. | 2022 Costume Pack Now Available Teaser | |
Backrooms Monster | The Backrooms are a fictional concept developed collaboratively online, originating from a 2019 creepypasta about clipping out of reality into an endless series of rooms. This monster originates from the 2022 analog horror video "The Backrooms (Found Footage)" by Kane Pixels, and is most commonly known as the Bacteria or Lifeform Fellow. | @StrongBadActual tweet (23 Oct 2023) |
