Wisp of smoke

I think that when Marzipan notes that Homestar Runner will be able to eat brunch with her at her parents' house, the small wisp of black smoke that rises from above his head resembles a climber on the mountain in the final frame before the smoke disappears. Here's an image to help illustrate his point. While I can see where he gets the idea, I think it's a not-notable coincidence. I don't have a stake in the argument over whether to include SB smiling, but I have an issue here. I see that the edit has been removed at least twice with reference to the aforementioned talk page. Said talk page has only a handful of comments on the subject and no consensus on a cutoff date. Furthermore, the argument to cut off these comments should come from the article, not the article's talk page, should it not? Steep deep

The way Steep Deep is made came to mind two possible references: either the climactic scene of How The Grinch Stole Christmas TV special or the Cliffhanger game from The Price Is Right. Someone mentioned this on the forum: do the TV special parts w/ the piano, pipe, etc. seem like that Stephen Colbert christmas special that was on last month? I personally doubt it, More likely a parody of christmas specials in general, but hey, some o' you might think so. -Lifty Fernandez

This is common to many spoofs of old-style celebrity specials. It is far more likely that SC and H*R are spoofing the same source than that H*R is spoofing the spoof. See the mid-1980s SNL skit with Eddie Murphy as Gumby in "Merry Christmas, D**mit!" It's the same format. The "Oh, I didn't see you there" line a common method of appearing "off the cuff."

The Colbert Special was a spoof as well, so it could be that they are similar because they are spoofing the same thing.

Previous Engagement = Prior Arrangement

I think it should be noted in the article that when Strong Bad translates the cheat as "previous engagement", he (or the Cheat) probably meant "prior arrangement". A previous engagement is something that has already happened, not something that is about to happen that the Cheat must attend.

Well, that assumes it's meant to be a joke. "Chef" would be the normal word to be used there. But that doesn't mean "chef" is the right word for the transcript; just the word that would normally fit into that sentence. They left for Marziparent's house just after 12:30 (12:30 + however long it took for him to get down the slope and then discuss it). It doesn't say when they got to Marziparent's house. I know when I was a kid we had to drive all day and through the night to get to Grandma's. I assumed that this is what they had to do. This is however based on my personal experience, so it is possible that TBC had something totally different in mind. Maybe her parents are vampires so they have to have their meals at different times. Trevor could be her brother, the Gremlin could be the house hold pet, and Marzipan could be adopted. You never know what will happen next in the H*R universe! Now that I think about it, when Homestarrunner did the special we see the calendar that tells us it is the 24th, and then we see him, the cheat, and Strongbad at the steep deep at night, and then homestarrunner goes to the brunch, so the trip to Marziparent's house had to be on the 25th. Since they call it a Decemberween brunch,they would have had to have gotten there on the same day. I think I'll stick to my vampire explanation. (j/k) Actually, maybe he pre-recorded the special on the 23rd with the calandar page showing the next day, and filmed his stunt the next day (on the 24th) as the finale of the special so that it could all be aired together for the first time on the night of the 24th. For that to work, Strong bad, homestarrunner, and the cheat would have had to use the time machine built by Homestarrunner in the sbemail "2 emails" to go back to the night before to hide the mattress (which would explain how Homstarrunner could be at both the filming of the special and at the steep deep hiding the mattress at the same time), and then they drove overnight to have brunch at Marziparent's house on the morning of the 25th. — Edwardgindel (Talk | contribs) 17:29, 16 July 2009 (left unsigned)

Defying Death=Death?

Well, that's kinda' the joke. He's probably saying he will defy-death in hopes no one will catch on to his plot of trying to injure himself badly so that he won't have to go to Marzipan's parents' house. Calender Remark? 24

For example, Homestar Presents: Presents was released on the 20th but takes place entirely on the evening of the 25th. All Halloween toons take place on Halloween itself, but not a single one was released on Halloween (unless you accept the Bros. I don't know if this is what the Bro. Chaps had in mind, but here is a recipe for hot Jones: Start with half a mug of black coffee. Add cinnamon, nutmeg, and almond flavoring. While stirring, fill the mug the rest of the way with eggnog (often alcoholic.) Top with whipped cream. I am told that there is a way of doing it a flambe by pouring alcohol into (or is it onto?) the whipped topping and then immediately lighting a match, but I have to wonder about that since I have never seen it done. It sounds dangerous, too. I don't drink hot Jones. I prefer hot Mo-Jones which is considered better suited for people who don't drink and for when small children are around. It's the same thing essentially, but it is made with hot cocoa instead of coffee and is 100% alcohol free. (hot Mo-Jones = hot Mormon Jones, not hot mojo nes, named such since Mormons don't drink coffee or alcohol.)

Given that it suddenly switches to Coach Z's arm once Bubs appears in the doorway (thus no longer being there to throw snow), and also that Bubs has a much longer reach to be off-screen while throwing. Decemberween or Decemberw'eve?

Homestar's speech impediment makes it a little hard to make out, but every time he announces his upcoming stunt, it sounds to me like he's saying it'll take place on Decemberw'eve.

I'm hearing three "Decemberweeve"s (spelling based on the calendar in the flimsy set): "This Decemberweeve, I, homestarrunner.com ...", "That's why, this Decemberweeve ...", "It's time to go ... for Decemberweeve brunch" (Marzipan). All the other instances sound like "Decemberween" to me. It still doesn't make much sense in context, but Homestar has never been the brightest light on the tree, and TBC are fond of creating new portmanteaux, so I suppose it could be intentional, albeit ridiculously subtle. 04:54, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Thatguy?

Might be stretching a little here, but could the first scene of the "special" where Homestar has his pipe be a reference to the "Ask ThatGuy" section of clips from thatguywiththeglasses.com? Here's a link to one of the clips. At the beginning of each of those, he has that pipe, and also says "Hi, (or hi in a foreign language) didn't hear you come in."

Bubs Winter Attire

The Transcript states:

"Cut to a snow-covered field, where a group of characters is standing, all dressed in winter attire, and adorning a snowman with The Stick"

forgetting for the moment that "is" should be "are," Not all the characters are wearing winter attire. Bubs is naked as usual. The transcript should be changed, or it should be put in remarks.
