It's official. Senor Cardgage lives under a bush. When he rises up from the bush, be prepared, or he'll scare the s**t out of you. ''{does a Senor Cardgage impersonation}'' Mmmmm... mumble... grumble... --[[User:John Doerrman|John Doerrman]] 15:34, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

After who knows how long, we finally get a toon! This truly is a D-Ween Mackerel! On to Bweeze-Ness. Here are some things I have noticed.

  • On the Main Page it says "New Holiday Toon", and when hovered over it says "For real!"
  • When Cardgage is "revived" he makes the same shine and noise as when "Eh, Steve!'s mouth exploded the universe" in Cactus Coffee and the No Tell Hotel"
  • Non specific mouthwash and the guy who says I'm going to need you to sign this makes fun of people being sued for using product names.
  • Marzipan and Homestar both sung a modified version of O, Decemberween.
  • Strong Sad being locked in the tub is a reference to other D-Ween toons.
  • This toon constantly references Cardgage's death. And hints at Homsar's
  • When Marzipan and Homestar are walking at the beginning, Homestar has footsteps and Marzi is leaving a solid trail, again hinting she is just a mass in a dress shape
  • When Cardgage comes out of the bush, he makes the same traffic noise as in his FBI warning and Hremail 3184
  • Coach Z is wearing a Blubb-Os box.
  • The Bubs scene could be an instance of duplicate characters.
  • Homeschool winner, Preshy, Rafferdy, Champeen, The Hurricane and another mass I can't identify at the end of the line are all in the bubs scence
  • The Defib unit was previously seen in the Breakfast cereal email
  • This is an toon not only in widescreen but it is big altogether even bigger than the games menu(I personally can't fit it on my screen VERTICALLY entirely)

Just things I konticed. --Geonightman 23:50, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

You should add those to the fun facts section of the article. (I could, but then you wouldn't be credited in the history.) If you're worried about formatting, don't be. Someone will fix it for you. — It's dot com 23:54, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
If you can't fit it onto your screen, press F11 (at least in IE) to view full screen. F11 again will shrink it back. Or you can view the Flash file which will automatically fit to your browser. OptimisticFool 00:39, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Oh shoot. I put in the part about the people in line. Sorry! I didn't know. You can do the rest of them. Rondleman! Stuff I did.Talk. 02:58, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

I am just so happy we finally have a toon again! I have been checking the website everyday for so long hoping to see one. This brightened my day!

This is the first time we had a toon since April! Thats 8 months down the drain for us! all we had to do was edit old stuff that was new! oh, im so glad it's over. Jibblejibblejibble 22:25, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

The end of the line

Who is that guy at the end of the line before Marzipan? I have no idea. Rondleman! Stuff I did.Talk. 02:57, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

I think it's that girl from a DVD extra.--Record307 Talk/Contribs 03:14, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
That'd be three Unguraits standing on each others head. The fun facts already got it. StrongAwesome 03:19, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Marzipan's Voice

I know the sound quality is better, but does Marzipan's voice sound a little different to you guys? I don't know, it sounds more refined, for lack of a better word, maybe it's just been so long I forgot what she sounded like. I understand the sound quality is better for this one, but I don't think that has too much to do with it --The Swedish Ace 03:22, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes, it's different. I can't describe it either. It was different in DNA Evidence too.. according to Matt in the DVD commentary, "You can tell Melissa's got a cold here. She's a little snotty." Don't think it's the same thing here, though. OptimisticFool 03:42, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Maybe it's just the result of how long it's been since the last toon? 99.239.23.76 03:06, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
It is a little different... It is probably because we havent heard a new toon for eight months, so, her voice must have changed because...w-well.... everybody sounds different at the end of a year than what they did at the beginning. That proves my point. also they said there was higher voice resolution or something like that in Homestar Presents: Presents. In conclusion, i concur with the anonymous writer above my comment.
The Swedish Ace, I thought it sounded really different too --Garfunkel 04:18, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Video Lag During the End?

Anybody else have the video studder/lose synch during the end of the cartoon? I've played it about 3 times, and it does it at the same part every single time.

High horse

I think "We Come Down Off Our High Horse!" in the HTML title isn't referring to Homestar's line but rather to the Chaps themselves. They're jokingly saying they've stopped doing whatever they're doing these days long enough to make a new toon. — It's dot com 04:05, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

You know, I was actually thinking the exact same thing. I didn't want to bring it to the talk because it was a very fleeting suggestion, and I interpreted it to refer to Marzipan's line instead of Homestar's. However, if there's no more verification of this, we don't really have any means of professionally adding this to the article. If we're taking a double rainbow meaning out of this page title, we need to be absolutely sure that this indeed is a double meaning. MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 04:09, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
I agree with Dot com here. It wouldn't be the first time they've acknowledged a long break between toons, and it was also something that definitely crossed my mind when I read it the first time. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 04:16, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Makes sense to me. SaltyTalk! 04:26, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Screen size

Is there a way of watching this toon without having to scroll? Not the Flash file, the HTML toon. RickTommy (edits) 05:09, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

You could do any of the following:
  1. Get Firefox, get Greasemonkey, then get Phlip's All-in-one script, which includes a feature to automagically make the toon the size of you screen.
  2. Press F11 to make your browser go fullscreen (this is standard across all browsers).
  3. Increase the resolution of your screen by going to control panel and then under Appearance and Personalization there should be a link that says "Adjust Screen Resolution" (at least that's on Vista, might be slightly different in 7 and probably similar in OS X).
  4. Buy a bigger monitor/better video card.
--Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 05:18, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
You could also lower the font-size (Cmd minus or Ctrl minus), that's what I did. --Hatkirby 11:34, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
If you have Firefox, I suspect this add-on will downsize any too-large 'toons as well as embiggening the small ones. Octan 00:36, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

You could also zoom out. In IE and Firefox go to "View" on the menu, then zoom. Perducci

In all modern browsers, Ctrl-Scroll Wheel. And don't forget xrandr for 'Nix users! — fuchsiania 01:32, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Octan's note also works on Safari for all you mac users. I have Safari and it worked perfectly. but dont forget to switch it back though. Jibblejibblejibble 22:44, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
If you have Google Chrome, Go to the little wrench for tools, and click minus twice.

Sports

When Marzipan said "Senor Cardgage won first place in sports" it reminded me of the reporter in Coach Z's 110% that said "Homestar Runner, you just won the sports". So now I'm wondering if there's any other time the term "sports" is used in place of an actual sport, and if not, if this seems notable in any way at all.

Oh yeah also when Coach Z pops out of the snow before Cardgage appears there's a line in the snow where he came out that disappears before the scene zooms in.--Topmonhit 05:33, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Rejected Characters

Let's put it in the article next to the fun fact about it. — It's dot com 17:18, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Cardgage's Dialogue

Cardgage usually calls people women's names, but here, he doesn't say any female names at all; in fact, he uses a MALE name at one point. Did anyone else notice this? I put this in Remarks. --Raddaluigi 23:12, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Fake vomit

The transcription says Homestar throws up when he says "puke". But to me it looked like they were trying to get across that it was imaginary vomit, because it's just a dotted white outline. Thoughts? - Your imaginary pal, Octan 00:30, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

I agree. Watching it frame by frame, it definitely looks pretend. — It's dot com 00:49, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
I was kinda wondering why the vomit was a dotted line and clear. Maybe that is it.—TheMcArby! 00:54, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
I sorta figured the puke was supposed to look Christmas-y. Anyone? Homestar-Winner (talk) 01:30, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Maybe he puked snow? StarFox 03:02, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Maybe a reference to Epic Yarn, which uses that art style. You know how the Chaps love Nintendo. --Raddaluigi 05:23, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
i also reccomend the game i havae it. it rules. no, i think that they did it in refrence to Halloween Potion-Ma Jig where the bottle of Ghost water is dotted with the outline like that. and ghosts are imagiary, or types of imaginary people, so i think they just used the same type of material so they can prove their point. I will have to take another look at it... Jibblejibblejibble 22:48, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Bubses?

In the rejected characters scene, Homeschool Winner is seen conversing with Bubs. Three seconds later, we pan to Homestar talking to Bubs a few feet away. Does this count as a case of Duplicate Characters?--Jellote wuz here 20:56, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Technically no. Since Bubs wasn't moving at all when he was in the stand, I think the "Bubs" you see is actually a cardboard cutout. MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 17:03, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Except he is moving. He's waving his arms. I'll grant that I still think it's a fake Bubs of some sort (or that he can run really fast?), but we shouldn't just dismiss the duplicate characters thing without a discussion. — It's dot com 17:16, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
From frame 2735 to frame 2743 you can see Bubs standing next to Homestar while you can still very faintly hear the other Bubs continuing to talk about sales, proving that there were two different Bubses there that night. Homestar-Winner (talk) 17:40, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
I removed it from the Fun Facts list on grounds that they don't appear onscreen at the same time (see also No Hands on Deck!). --DorianGray 20:18, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

My left arm is disappearing, Miss America

I posted a fun fact saying that Senor Cardgage's left arm disappears after he rises from the bush. The Knights Who Say Ni reverted it. If you watch the bush closely, something red is behind it as he's rising up, but the moment he stops, it disappears. I figured it's his left hand/glove. If anyone out there has Greasemonkey and can verify this, I'd be much obliged. Bottom line, though: something weird happens after he rises up. I see it, clear as Halloween Night.--Bobo the King 07:45, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

I see it. What's really funny: on the same frame his left hand disappears, a spot of his right hand appears from behind the bush. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 10:28, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Bobo the King - I was wrong to revert you, and i apologize. I didn't know what to look for, so i wasn't looking early enough. hope my clarifying revision works for you. Jay - for some reason, my right click menu isn't working, so i am unable to watch this by frames. once that gets fixed, i'll be able to see what you're talking about more clearly. The Knights Who Say Ni 14:47, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
If you have Firefox, the Greasemonkey script helps a lot for frame-by-frame comparisons. :) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 17:35, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
No worries, Knights. I've made more than my share of mistakes in editing and it's not as though any damage was done-- this is a Wiki, after all. I just wanted to throw it on the talk page since it seemed my version of the fun fact was unclear. No harm done, and apology graciously accepted!--Bobo the King 22:40, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Jay - yes i use firefox, but i don't have that script. normally i can just right click and stop the action and watch it by frames that way. something tells me that if i manually crash firefox, the problem will fix itself, but at the same time, i'm always hesitant to do that. incidentally, for this edit summary, i went in and actually counted each individual frame. (it was only seven seconds at 12 fps; i figure it wouldn't take all that long) i figure since i hardly ever need to know frame numbers, downloading that script isn't all that urgent at the present time. The Knights Who Say Ni 23:00, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
what do you know, right click menu magically works again! and i didn't have to crash the browser or anything. anyway, Jay - wow, that's interesting. could a decompiler take out the bush? that would be crazy to watch... The Knights Who Say Ni 02:33, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Hahaha. It would be interesting to see how The Brothers Chaps treated that hammer space. Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 03:39, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Marzipan's transition lines

I extracted the file of Marzipan's lines right before a couple of the transitions. Listen here: A Decemberween Mackerel Marzipan.mp3. I think her first line is "Move it on," not "Movin' on." I also hear no "r" in "Peeow." (Interestingly, there's an unused "Yoink" in there too.) — It's dot com 18:59, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

The "Peeow" bit I'll buy, but I definitely hear "Movin' On." If I really try, I can sorta kinda hear an "it", but barely. StrongAwesome 19:57, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that doesn't sound like Move it on. —TheMcArby! 16:10, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
I took it in and it was definatly it was Movin' On. Also, off the record, pardon me if some of my words are missing a letter, my keyboard is old and not working right.... Jibblejibblejibble 22:54, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Photo caption

"At Decemberween time, it's our duty as people with more than one DVR to help those much, much, much, much, way very, very, very much, really smelly, a lot much less fortunate than us."

Per the suggestion of It's dot com I'm taking this discussion here. The caption for the photo on the page is much, much too long and doesn't really fit the picture. We try to avoid unnecessarily lengthy captions here and this is one of them. Not to mention the fact that it really isn't funny, either. --That guy that slayed some Kerrek. 06:08, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

The caption for the photo on the page is not too long at all. It fits the picture very well, much better in fact than the other one. We don't try to avoid unnecessarily lengthy captions. It's especially funny, in part because of its length. — It's dot com 06:13, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
I'm largely ambivalent, but if required to make the choice, I'd go with DC's because, whatever anyone else may say, I do find it marginally funnier than the other. Also because I actually agree that it actually does fit the picture better than the other (for the "keep slogging" quote to fit well, Marzipan would need to have her angry look). I do grant that it's pretty long, but really, I don't know that we have any particular precedent against long quotes. Still, I'm not going to get too involved in this. I think caption wars are kind of a waste of time, anyway. Heimstern Läufer 14:49, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Easy there, German Homestar, let's not call this a "caption war". I've seen plenty of lengthy captions get cut back, and seven lines of space below a photo for something that quite frankly isn't funny is a little too much. There's gotta be a better way. --That guy that slayed some Kerrek. 07:48, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
"Caption war" = just a term for an edit war over captions, so I think it describes the situation well. As for the dispute, unfortunately, part of this is just plain subjective: whether that line is funny. You say it is not, Dot com says it is. No real objective answer to that dispute. For my part, I find it funny, though not exceedingly so. Heimstern Läufer 09:26, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
I find the extra-long caption funny. It was probably the first (of many) things that made me laugh in the toon. Additionally, extra-long captions are funny in and of themselves (see also Compy Catalog). But, objectively, who said the caption even needs to be funny? Can't it just be a caption? --DorianGray 09:31, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
I would characterize the majority of our captions, especially the ones at the top of toon articles, as funny. (Yes, funny is subjective. Let's just say that they were probably funny to whoever added them to the respective articles.) Even if we usually have short captions, I have not noticed that we, as a rule, must always choose short quotes for captions (demonstrated by the link above), and I would expect the claim that one has "seen plenty of lengthy captions get cut back" to be backed up with links to edits. Ultimately, I think the current caption is fine with the current image (shown above).
But really, we're focusing on the wrong thing here. I don't think the current image is the right one for the article. I needed an image for the main page, and so I specifically chose something close to the beginning of the toon that wouldn't be a spoiler. I put it in the article as a placeholder and added what I thought was the funniest corresponding caption. I fully expected the image to be replaced at some point (I even named it "A Decemberween Mackerel opening"). The toon is about Senor Cardgage, after all, and he's not even in the picture. — It's dot com 20:25, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Agreed. The image should have Senor Cardgage in it. OptimisticFool 20:40, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
I disagree. It shouldn't. im saying that because dont you think thats too much of a spoiler? Then again, in the descriptions that are on the article page, you did put Marzipan/ barely Homestar thata they were trying to help Cardgage.... but still, we dont need more spoilers on there.... Jibblejibblejibble 23:00, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Spoiler? The opening blurb says "Senor Cardgage says he's dying", it's pretty obvious that Cardgage would be in the toon. And besides, the entire plot of the toon would never be a spoiler. I'm all for Cardgage to be in the picture. StrongAwesome 23:32, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
In general, we've never been overly concerned with spoilers for the article image, because it's assumed that if you're reading the article, you've seen the toon (or you're reading at your own risk). It's only on the main page that we don't want to give anything away. The article image should capture the essence of the whole toon. — It's dot com 00:38, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm sure we have a lot more articles with article images and/or captions that would be considered "spoilers." None of these toons are a giant novel, it'd be unnecessary to employ anti-spoiler measures. Frankly, that'd be just silly. We cover these toons in a strict encyclopedic manner, because these aren't games. Getting back on topic, I'd just keep the caption as it's shown here. I don't think it's worth arguing over. Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 03:39, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Toyota Cressida

In the Transcript section, at one point, Senor Cardgage is said to say this: SENOR CARDGAGE: {moans} Oh, my Toyota Cressida... {Cardgage falls down} But what if what he's actually saying is, "My Toyota crashed."? I think this makes sense because he could be using "Toyota" to refer to one of his organs, and saying it "crashed" would be kind of like it failing. And also because of the recent issue with Toyota vehicles and their brakes failing, causing them to crash. Though that may be too sensitive of a joke for an online show like this to make, especially so soon. Still, I think it's plausible that he could've said either one.

Does anyone else notice that when Cardgage speaks at this point, his hair darkens? - Zoen 10:10, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Hair darkening: it does. Saying "crashed": he doesn't. The "Cressida" is pretty clearly multiple syllables. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 17:23, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
wow! i thought he said "Oh, my Toyota Crashdeds." That is not a real word, but.... wow, im only 12 and my hearing is fadin fast!
I heard "Ohh... My Toyota crashida..." But "Cressida" does make more sense than a fake word, but a modified "crashed" would also make sense... I'm confused now.--96.253.50.144 23:11, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Hello, Chi Minh?

Upon listening, couldn't it have been "Hello, G-Man"? After all, said character from the Half-Life series has a habit of appearing and disappearing, and Cardgage has just emerged from a ridiculously tiny bush.

No, I don't think so. I've always heard "Hello, Chi Minh". — It's dot com 20:27, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
It's certainly 'Chi Minh' --Mooman72v2 03:23, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Dress like shape? Me thinks not!

Maybe the reason that Marzipan is leaving a solid trail behind is because her dress is dragging in the back, erasing any footprints in the snow with just a wide dent. Possibly?

That'd be a pretty heavy dress to leave such a consistantly wide trail as deep as footprints. --DorianGray 22:27, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
As a freindly retort, i guess it must be! Lol! Kidding! I get your point, but mine sure isn't impossible.... as a girl myself, i have worn dresses that actually left marks in snow now that i think of it... Jibblejibblejibble 23:10, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Actually, this bodes well with The House That Gave Sucky Treats, where it's revealed that she has no legs, and that her body occupies the space underneath her skirt. But her section on Lack of Visible Body Parts is just completely contradictory, or, if I may borrow words from Strong Bad's article, "purposely ambiguous." Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 03:39, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Marzipan smiled!

I noticed that when Pom Pom was taking their picture, Marzipan had her old smile on. When was the last time? Danjor 15:38, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Um... the last time was in Xeriouxly Forxe. Which, uh, was also the last time she appeared. And the last time before that was Doomy Tales of the Macabre, which, um, so yeah. She still has her old overly-curled smile, she just rarely uses it in scenes where she talks these days. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 18:10, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Copyright Infringement

I figured "Non specific mouthwash" was a humorous way of covering their butts, referencing previous copyright lawsuits filed against them. (In spite of the fact that Listerine has been called by name multiple times in the past, and apparently they haven't been asked to remove it.) Can we put something to this effect on the article, or are we still supposed to pretend it never happened?--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 06:46, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
