I'm inclined to go with Thunderbird. How many times does something need to constitute it being a catch phrase? And what seperates something from being a catch prase/slogan/motto, etc.? Catch phrases can be interpreted in many different ways. - Super Sam 09:55, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Catch phrases are something that is said repeatatly until it became popular. The problem with most of the phrases here (exept "holy crap") is that they became popular without being repeated. Huh. The page is MUCH better, however, I feel it may go against Once And Only Once. Neutral. But, if it is determined to be deleted, suggest merge the catch phrases, slogans, and mottos to the character's/companies' pages. Bluebry 15:25, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Sample of Style and Store Thank You Messages. Hey, if this page is going to be kept, we should replace "numerous occassions" with ALL the "occassions". Otherwise, it seems like we're not trying. I was thinking of re-arranging the appearances list so that it looked something like this:

• Some other catch phrase - (list of all appearances)

Naturally, the (list of all appearances)'s will be replaced with a list of all appearances, and the "some other catch phrase" will be replaced by a different catch phrase, if there are any.

Some of these aren't really catch phrases and others are variations of similar ones... i think i'll re-organize this page removing the ones that aren't and putting the ones that are variations as sub-bullets. Any objections? — Defender1031*Talk 00:27, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Great minds DO think alike... I was looking at the page and said to myself, "Some of these have only appeared in one toon/are variations on other catch phrases. I think I'll notify the head users about my plan to delete one-timers and sub-bullet variations on the talk page." So i mentioned it a couple years ago, but nothing was ever actually done. There's no clear rule as to what counts as a catchphrase and what doesn't. At the moment, it seems to just be people adding fun quotes and hoping they stay. This is not a good system. We need to define what counts as a catch phrase, and then remove those that don't. Basically, nothing added today counts, and I removed the remainder. That leaves the question: Do we make a cutoff for how many times something must be repeated? Even then, we have cases where things AREN'T repeated (much if at all) but are called or treated like catch phrases; "That's bupkis!" being a prime example. --Jay (Talk) 23:40, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Exactly. There are cases where stuff IS repeated that doesn't make it a catch phrase (ex: anything involving the phrase "terrific athlete") and there are things that are never repeated that are clearly catch phrases (ex: "Look lively!") Also, does "Made from the best stuff" really count? It's a slogan, not a catch phrase. But according to some definitions, a slogan and a catch phrase can be the same thing. That one's easy enough to answer. A catch phrase should be tied to a character, not a product. So "Drink in that bun" is tied to the Sog Dog, not Coach Z. Not a catch phrase. On the other hand, Marshie is pretty much defined by being the creepy mascot of Fluffy Puff Marshmallows, so it's not unreasonable to consider the Fluffy Puff slogan to also be his catch phrase, given that he says it frequently enough. --Jay (Talk) 00:33, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

No, no, I get that. I've been trying to come up with a definition, but the problem is... it's kind of hard to define. The best I can come up with is a long list of things that should flag the listener that something's a catch phrase (used repeatedly in unusual contexts, contains an unusual word, complex enough that it's noticeable when it's repeated, called a catch phrase by the characters themselves), yet all but the last of those can be corrupted by noticeably non-catchphrasey examples. --Jay (Talk) 00:49, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
