See the article's first paragraph: "It seems as if when The Brothers Chaps need to pick a letter, G is usually their choice." In this case, the Brothers Chaps are not just "picking a letter," they're using urban slang. I'll repost my edit summary: "I'll take up annony's case: "g" is slang for $1,000.
