Linking Rules

This section sholud stay at the top of this talk page.

  • Active sites only - If a site is down indefinitely, on indefinite hiatus, inactive for several months, or "Coming Soon", it will be removed.
  • No editorializing - List only the name of the site and a very brief description of its content. Comments like "The best fansite!!" will be removed.
  • No duplicates - If a site is both a fan site and a forum, it should not be listed in both places. Pick the most appropriate category.

In addition, articles and interviews should be listed in reverse-chronological order (newest ones first) and other links should be listed in alphabetical order by title. Official sites are listed in order of their relevance to Homestar Runner.

Links that are currently broken

These have been moved here in the hope they return someday. This section should stay at the top of this talk page just below the linking rules.

I'm not sure where to put this, so here:
The Strong Bad Numa Numa song can be found through a link on [www.garybrolsma.net]. It's on the sightings page.

Actually, that page links to the same place we link to, and it really is down. Thanks for the tip, though. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 22:18, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
And garybrolsma.net has since removed the link from their site as well. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 19:48, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

Don't add sites that are down

Listen people! the forums you are trolling to put them back in are DOWN! -No Loafing V2

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you are talking about. Can you please elaborate? I haven't seen any trolling on this page. And maybe adding a section heading to the topic you started would help. -- Tom 14:18, 17 Sep 2004 (MST)

Personal websites

I have a Homestar Runner fansite, but it only has my stuff (fanfiction and fanart). Would it be okay for me to add to the list?--Hysterical Woman 11:39, 24 Oct 2004 (MST)

Fan site pages?

I noticed that we now have links to pages for every fan site. What are information are these pages going to contain? Will it be something that the one line description doesn't have? And will they be NPOV? -- Tom 14:23, 16 Dec 2004 (MST)

I noticed this too; I don't think we need articles on fan created sites. The link is sufficient to direct people to them. If they want to make articles on the Fanstuff Wiki, I say go nuts, but this Wiki should be as "cannon" as possible. - Dr Haggis - Talk 03:21, 17 Dec 2004 (MST)

The Muppet Wiki and Wookieepedia has articles on fan created sites. --Sam Goldfish 00:48, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
And we don't, for the reasons Drhaggis mentioned over a year and a half ago. Also note that my comment referred to this version of the article and that the links were removed the next day after this discussion. -- Tom 16:50, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
I didn't say we needed articles on fan created sites, but isn't the sky's the limit? --Trogga 17:01, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
I'd prefer there were no links to fansites for a few reasons. One, we are documenting H*R as produced by TBC, not all H*R-related fanstuff around the web. Secondly, if the fansite in question is fanstuff, a HRFWiki page would be appropriate for collecting such links; if the site in question is a description of the 'canon' of H*R it's duplication ofcontent we already have. In other words, such links don't complement what we're trying to do here. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 17:20, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Website Linking

I think the "Want to link this Wiki from your website?" section needs to be a seperate page, or at least seen better. It's hard to find it way down at the bottom of Links. →FireBird

Maybe something like Links/Link to the Wiki would be good.—StrongstarRunbad 20:36, 14 Jan 2005 (MST)
I think that should be the case only if there are many images that can be chosen from. Right now two are dead and I have had to delete them (if anyone has local copies of them please upload them to the wiki!). I also suggest that the remaining offsite linked images should be saved locally on the hrwiki's image directory. I, unfortunately don't really know how to do this at this time. If I learn how, I will do so. --Stux 18:49, 23 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Banners and buttons

Are we allowed to add our own banners and buttons to the "Link to HRWiki" section? Can we upload them here? →evin290 19:20, 19 Feb 2005 (MST)

As far as I know, yes. →[[User:FireBird|FireBird]]

E2TL.PLAYVECTREX.COM

Is something wrong with everybodytothelimit.com? It just goes to some page with main5.swf embedded in it with a picture of a poorly animated duck with a server clock. Is that supposed to happen when I go to any page on that site? →—Darklinkskywalker|Talk_|i did this stuff_ 03:55, 7 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I am experiencing the same thing, only now not even the duck appears. I beleive that this link should be considered dead and should be deleted. According to the description, it likely has a copy of the Oktam mirror. Also, the kitcorp mirror is more thorough than the Oktam mirror and should be moved to the top of the list. I will come back in a few days and do the aforementioned changes if there are no objections. --Stux 18:42, 23 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Broken links

Seems silly for this page to have broken links on it. Perhaps they can be moved to the top of the talk page with some kind of notice on the main page to the effect of: "If you don't see a known link here, it might be down. Please check the talk page." What do you think? I'll go ahead and do this if nobody objects. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 16:49, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

Seems ok. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 16:57, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

Homestarrunner.net

Do we really need to have homestarrunner.net linked on this page anymore? DBK!

EverybodyToTheLimit?

What's up with EverybodyToTheLimit.com? It's not down, but it's not exactly up either. Should it be moved to the talk page or kept where it is on the main page? — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 02:35, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Probably leave it in links, with a note that it's currently 'in limbo' or something. The fact that there's still something there means somebody's still paying the net dues, and thus might start it up again, right? Thunderbird 03:12, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
I realized right after I posted this that it's already posted about above. I guess leaving it on the Links page won't hurt. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 16:33, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Am I blind or something?

Do we link to these sites/articles anywhere? I'm not seeing them on this page or the Interviews and Public Appearances page. Am I just blind and I'm not seeing them, or do they need to be added somewhere?

There's also a bunch of listings for Homestar Runner at thefanlistings.org > Animation > Digital Animation. Perhaps we should create a new subsection for fan listings and list them in order of membership?

What do you think? — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 16:50, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

I think those two interviews should be linked to in the Interview section, and transcribed if copyrights permit. - Joshua 17:01, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
The two interviews are already text. They aren't videos. They should be linked to, but there's no need to transcribe them. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 17:08, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
We've transcribed other interviews that were already text... - Joshua 17:51, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
I realise this discussion is old, but I was wondering why the above articles aren't linked to anywhere as well. Do they go on Article Sightings or Interviews and Public Appearances? Shwoo 05:11, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
These four are articles:
ResExcellence: The Creators of Homestar Runner, The Brothers Chapman is 404 not found.
Flak Magazine: Homestar Runner Breaks from the Pack I don't see any reason why this couldn't be article material.
The following are just reviews or news items about the site:
I don't find online quizzes particularly notable:
You could do some research on the Flak Magazine link, maybe start a talk page for an article so you could work on looking into the copyright of the article (it is copyright © Flak Magazine) and re-print permission. See Interviews and Public Appearances and its talk page for more information. Sightings would be a place to include the other non-interview things, but that's always been a bit unorganized. -- Tom 07:14, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Other sites...

Some of the links in the other sites section (such as jorbs a plenty (and the jibblies??)) seem to belong more in the Sightings section rather than here... any thoughts? Ideas? Discussions... ponderings? Simulations (model checking)? Words...? --Stux 19:55, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

Sightnings if for a place where we list sites and such who make referecnes to Homestar. Not having a whole toon or site about it. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 20:01, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
Ok makes sense... thanks! --Stux 20:09, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
Although, I point out that Matt Wilson's Homestar cartoon is on BOTH pages, Sightings and Links. Just sayin'. --DorianGray

hm....

shouldn't the fake ebay easter egg be on here? the url is homestarrunner.com\ebay or something like that, so i guess it might not. ah well. Seriously (Talk) 14:31, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

I think you are talking about www.homestarrunner.com/amazon.html and I say no because it's already linked to in Bookazon-- Benol, aka Coach B 22:47, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

New Link

I think we should use this Image as an official link. --Dacheatbot · Communicate 04:16, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Wiki Banners

Can we add more banners for linking to the wiki here, like this one I made? --Sam Goldfish 02:05, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Regardless of whatever support TBC have shown us or how they mention us, I think it is a very bad idea to put "approved by the Brothers Chaps" on anything on this wiki (whether tongue-in-cheek or not) without a notarized letter from them saying it's okay. I further think that the image should be deleted from the server. (By the way, I am not against banners in general; I just think this one has the potential for trouble.) — It's dot com 02:10, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Is that a yes or no? --Sam Goldfish 02:13, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Can we add more banners for linking to the wiki? Sure, why not. Like that one you made? No, I think using that specific phrase would be asking for headaches we don't need and potentially dangerous. — It's dot com 02:16, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Is this any better? --Sam Goldfish 18:53, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
The text is hard to read (black on blue/brown), the language is awkward (we're the Homestar Runner Wiki), the logo is the one we use for the forum (as opposed to the one we use on the wiki), and it's very large for a banner. Feel free to keep these for your own personal use, but we won't be using them officially in any capacity here on the wiki. Also, we aren't in any great need for banners advertising the wiki. In fact, we don't actively promote the wiki in any fashion, so your efforts might be better spent on other projects. -- Tom 19:02, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
It's not for advertising; it's for linking to the HRWiki. --Sam Goldfish 20:20, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
We aren't actively seeking images for linking to the wiki either. And all the issues I mentioned are still unresolved. -- Tom 06:06, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
I can't speak for the need for or non-need for banners but I thought that the image had potential. It could be edited a bit. When I saw it, I immediately knew what you were referencing. I think perhaps cropping TC out of that background, making it less tall, and then tweaking the text maybe. It needs work, but I love the idea. If it doesn't get used, that would be too bad b/c it was a good idea. I R F 17:26, 22 June 2006 (UTC) (I'm still around by the way, just waiting for TBC to actually do something new.)
Um... I think we should delete these linkings. It's essentially advertising the HRWiki, which, in turn, advertises HSR. And if I'm correct, HSR.com was voted the most visited website "without advertising"! Im a bell 02:50, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Newspapers in "Links that are currently broken"

I understand the links don't work, but for most newspapers, articles are archived after a while such as here[1]. So should they really be considered "Broken"?

Homestar Board

Considering the next smallest forum by member count is over 200 more than this one, I suggest we establish some sort of minimum for this sort of thing, if not for other things in the Links page as well. — Lapper (talk) 00:01, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Umm, it seems that my forum is too unpopular to be listed? Hey, the only way for it to become popular is if it has some sort of advertisement, which it csn get on fan site listing sites, such as homestarrunner.net or here. Please keep it on, because it is never going to get popular without advertisement. Oh, and I've re-named it as The Municipality (www.themunicipality.co.nr) because Homestar Board sounded too generic. — user:Metroidpal45 15:00 2 June 2007
Oh yeah, you were the same guy that told me to stop talking about my forum on homestarrunner.net! Lol.
Yes, but you can't expect advertisement from here. This is an encyclopedia, and that board is really barely worth mentioning at the moment. If you're able to get it legitimately popular, considering the next lowest is 200, then sure, we can add it. — Lapper (talk) 21:47, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Thank you.

Can someone please put up a link to the Wiki User Wiki? I don't know what adress it's at. He can't say job. Don't say jorb 101 Seriously, he can't say job!
