::That's right, Mas.  I have an 8 gig iPod, and I know that 72 podcasts go to the podcasts section.  The other ones go into movies, but when I sync my iPod, the ones in movies don't show up.  I either need some way to put them all into the podcasts section, or some way to sync the movies section with the missing podcasts.  I did it once, but then, when I re-synced my iPod, they vanished. --Jagger88 03:57, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Dang, Jagger88, I forgot to tell you. If you have an Nano, you will see it says it says it can hold Videos and Podcasts. Unfortunatly, Jagger you can download podcasts movies and tv shows to iTunes on your computer but when you try to Sync it to your iPod it will not go through because that iPod cannot hold those types of files. Sorry! Maybe it would be best to get an iPod Touch, as they are the best iPod's to have Podstar and stuff. For some reason the file for "videogames" at http://files.neocodenetworks.com/podstar/ stops at about 2:27. Can anyone fix it? Jezzamon 10:34, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

:Late response, but: Does it not work on iTunes, or is just on your iPod that it messes up? That happens with my iPod too with some downloaded stuff. The only way I found to fix it is to re-download whatever it is and try to put it on your iPod again. You might not have to re-download the file, just re-put it on the iPod, and delete the old one that isn't working right. --71.58.25.169 00:09, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Right now, the two pages are titled Podstar Runner 2006 and Podstar Runner. Since both services have been discontinued, I see no reason to include the year in one title but not the other. I think Podstar Runner should be moved to Podstar Runner 2008, and the current page can be a disambiguation for both years. 04:36, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Revision as of 04:36, 5 March 2021

Ding! Podstar Runner 2008 is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

Alt versions for podcast

On the DVD version of dragon, the homsar easter egg is automatically enabled. They also did this on the new podcast version of the email. So, is there some place that we can note this on the page for that email? Should we create new an entirely new section for Podcast version on this page and all sbemails??? --Duke33 17:25, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Probably, yeah. — It's dot com 20:00, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

RSS Feed

Now all they need is an RSS feed so you can put this right in iTunes as a podcast and download it straight to the iPod.. --AndrewNeo 18:25, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Maybe a fan can create one. Y'know, like this one. And no, I didn't mean that I would create one, either.—S*R 19:08, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
I could certainly do it. I would just assume this would be something we'd want the Brothers Chaps to do themselves. In any case, I'll break out Notepad and have something up in a bit. :) --AndrewNeo 20:11, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Podstar links

I added a new interwiki-style link to our repertoire. To link to one of the podstar.homestarrunner.com files, simply preface it with "Podstar:" (for example: Podstar:sb_email_japanese_cartoon.m4v). — It's dot com 19:58, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Can somebody transcript any custom animation it contains, like this Strong Bad thing? - Joshua 21:33, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Quality

Has anybody noticed that the M4V videos have a much higher sound quality than the Flash files? Might seem a bit unfair for the "normal Flashers" at first, but if someone was to import the Flash file (which, if possible, would give us a load of vectors and so a nearly unlimited possibility of resizing) and mix its video track with the audio track of the M4V video, they could actually get megalomanic resolutions and a sound quality that beats the Flash file on the site. Anybody up to the task to make a proof-of-concept, HDTV-compatible Strong Bad Email? As long as it stays a non-redistributed proof-of-concept, it shouldn't be illegal. ~~Ravu 21:20, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Seems like a bit of a waste of time to me, but whatever. Anyway, in regard to your question: from what i've seen, it may not be as, ahem, "simple", as that. Most Flash decompiling programs manage to bugger up tweens etc as well as fonts. Then, on top of this, you usually need to fiddle with the .fla file you get at the end to get it to match up with the original .swf as mask layers etc often separate. Basically, it'd be some hassle.

Actually.. also its higher sound quality on the DVD's too so you could always just buy the dvds... 24.185.119.106 01:12, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Yes, you should buy the DVDs, because it supports TBC. By the way, I wouldn't spend any time on it, because it would end up being illegal since anything worth doing eventually ends up distributed. Even if it were legal, this talk page is not the place to solicit volunteers to work on it. — It's dot com 03:45, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Never wished to argue with that. Anyways, I was actually thinking about buying myself the Overkill Combo, but since it seems minors can't have credit cards over here in Austria, I'll have to put that off for the next few years (or ask somebody with a credit card). ~~Ravu 06:08, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
It is illegal. I study copyright law in my free time, and it is illegal. Sorry to crush your hopes and dreams, Bluebry 01:43, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Sound? Yeah, that's a good one. I can't get any sound at all. Not to mention, the video quality seriously sucks.--Jnelson09 00:02, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Oh man! I am a complete idiot. The sound was off. No matter, I can just use the ones already there.--Jnelson09 00:06, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Have they explicitly forbidden creating derivative works for the sole personal use by one single person now? If it isn't redistributed, I don't see where the problem lies. ~~Ravu 13:13, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Link on Site

Is there a link to this page on the actual site besides the recently updated on the homepages? Like in downloads or something? That's where it should be.--Martin925 22:27, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

MP4's

Hey, do you guys think there is any chance that they would release them on MP4 format so we (i) can watch them on Our (my) PlayStation Portable (PSP) System? either that, or is there some sort of Software or something that i could download so i could convert the M4V Files to MP4's?

-COLA

Since theyve done m4p's they'll probablyn eventually do ones for the PSP. As for converting.. i have no clue lol. 24.185.119.106 01:14, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

yes they work on the psp- Freezestar

No, they dont. i checked it out, i even upgraded my Bloody psp, didnt work, and all my movies that i had on it couldnt be played. great job, Sony.

-COLA

They don't work on the PSP. The videos available from the Podstar Runner page are encoded using H.264, and not MPEG-4. While giving it a better file size and reasonable video quality, it makes it incompatible with the PSP. --Tuquee 06:55, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Use PSPVideo9 to transcode the .M4v files. -CujoSR

mencoder sb_email_techno.m4v -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vbitrate=896 -oac mp3lame -lameopts vbr=3:br=128 -o sb_email_techno.mp4

Let me know how that works for you, I'm not sure exactly what a PSP expects. --phlip TC 16:10, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Strange. It works on mine. PSP-1001 on the side. I update the PSP all the way and put it in the Video folder ([root folder]:\VIDEO folder). And then i just rename the extension to mp4 and throw it into the VIDEO folder. That's what I do. And they work. --68.145.103.189 03:01, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

When that post was written, PSP firmware 2.80 (or 2.81, I forget which) hadn't been released. That was the firmware that added .m4v support (and you don't need to rename them either). --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 09:16, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

WMP?

do these files play on windows media player? (Or are they convertable to VuGo format?)-- Benol, aka Coach B 01:09, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

They are in H.264 video with AAC audio. I think there are codecs you can get for those for WMP. Person Man 02:01, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

No. It doesn't work. I just tried. Klaymation

discoveries of the deep?

So uh... Anybody figure out what the floppy is labled, the one that the iPod is resting against? All you... Decompilers or just those with good eyesight? And intuition? Thunderbird 01:57, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

I think the floppy says: Something of the Something. It's just too faded.-- Benol, aka Coach B 02:09, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, I searched Moby games for a DOS title with "of the" in it, and of around 250 results, the most likely canditate I could find was "discoveries of the deep". Does that look plausible to anybody? Thunderbird 00:36, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Definitely looks plausible. —FireBird|Talk 01:11, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Ditto that. --DorianGray
I added info for Discoveries of the Deep to the Floppy Disk Container article. Has Matt? (talk) 19:31, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Strong Sad's iPod? I think not.

That is not Strong Sad's iPod in the background, as stated on the wiki. It appears to be at least a 4G iPod, but its shape (especially the screen) is closer to that of the 5G iPod. Look at it--it has the gray clickwheel characteristic of 4G+ iPods. Strong Sad's is first- or second-generation. -Bruce

It doesn't look exactly like Strong Sad's iPod from the picture, but it is blurry, so details might not have been put in. Other times that this happens is when you see a zoomed-out picture of the Compy, and you cannot see the dial. Lets just see what others put in as well and then we will make final decisions. -Martin925 04:52, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Whoops. Didn't sign that last message--fixed. Anyway, here's the thing. The blur would make it hard to decide, except for the scroll-wheel. Notice it's gray. Strong Sad's iPod, as seen so far, has had a white scroll-wheel. The blur filter may obscure details, but it's not going to change the colors of anything. -Bruce 05:04, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
The width of the screen appears to be wider than Strong Sad's iPod, but quite like a video iPod.
The enlarged screen size and trademarked click wheel give it away that this iPod was designed to be a 5G iPod. However, note the headphone jack is plugged into the middle of the top of the iPod. That characteristic is not true with 5G iPods, which have the jack on the far right of the top. — Lapper (talk) 13:35, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, let's think about this for a minute. Who else in the Brothers Strong house (or anywhere else in FCUSA for that matter) owns an iPod? Mabye Strong Sad upgraded to a newer version or something. I agree, it's not the same one that we've seen before, but no one else has an iPod, so in my opinion, it has to be Strong Sad's. Has Matt? (talk) 13:50, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
I concur. Is this already noted on the item's article, or have we yet to add it? — Lapper (talk) 15:31, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
I thought the same exact thing as Has Matt? but I forgot to mention it. Who else would have an ipod? I think so far its Strong Sads, unless maybe in the future it is revealed that maybe Strong Bad got one or something.--Martin925 21:55, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Strong Bad with an iPod? Strong Bad thinks that flashlights are "the future of technology". Has Matt? (talk) 23:25, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Original Name

Since they changed the name from Strong Bad video podcasts, I think we should mention it in trivia.--Martin925 22:00, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

So... mention it. :) I'd do it but I haven't kept up with this page closely enough to know for sure what you're talking about. — It's dot com 22:22, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

What do I have to do?

What do I have to do to make Strong Bad pop up? I says wait a second after the email, what email it doesn't play any email. Bassium! m OCE

Please be more specific. After every Strong Bad Email featured, a short clip of Strong Bad should appear. — Lapper (talk) 23:46, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

PSP...rar

I could help with the PSP and iPod video conversion

I don't believe that creating PSP files for distribution would fall under fair use laws. Thanks for offering, though. — Lapper (talk) 15:44, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
While distribution of alternate versions would be illegal, converting it yourself to another format and playing it on your PSP would be considered fair use. Since the videos don't have DRM, they are not covered by the DMCA and the fair use exception can apply.
Creating a instructions to convert or a program that will do the converting would be fine (assuming you don't charge for it or anything). --SirNuke 01:22, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
This may be true, but I don't believe it falls under fair use. Just me. Bluebry 19:11, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Requires Quicktime?

Below external links it says that either iTunes or Quicktime is required to play these, but I must disagree. All that's needed is a player that can support the MOV file format, H264 decoding, and AAC decoding. The videos all play back perfectly on my computer without any sort of Apple "adware" installed. And it says that Quicktime version 6.0 is required, but I don't think that 6.0 can play H264 video. --Taku42 21:07, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

It can play H263, however. As for other programs, Quicktime and iTunes are the only two official programs that fully support and write .mov format. If you know of another that's as good as either of these, however, please say so. — Lapper (talk) 21:11, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
MPlayer (the almighty) has no problems. --phlip TC 05:26, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
The VideoLan Client ([2]) works really well. Which is a bit odd since VLC often has trouble with newer Quicktime files.--SirNuke 01:06, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

They may mean Quicktime 7, which I believe is the minimum requirement for iTMS videos.

Anonymous.

Also, video is only supported in iTunes 6.0 and up, podcasts from version 4.9. So regarding either capability, the iTunes version in the article is incorrect. 68.239.131.197 01:24, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Brothers Chaps helped! wooh

I got a email, from them after i emailed them.

Quicktime Pro can convert a .m4v file to an .mp4 file or any other format for that matter.
Just open the file up in Quicktime and choose Export to put it in whatever format you need,
this way you shouldn't have a problem getting it onto you PSP.

The psp needs a thumbnail file too so just converting it to mp4 won't work (I've tried). PSP video 9is the easiest way, it creates a thumbnail file automatically. Get a big memory stick too, videos eat up space fast.

RSS feed oddities

I removed them from the article, because the odd things in the RSS feed (copyright tag, link tag) are because TBC copied the RSS example from Apple's website. I have emailed TBC about the tags, too. --AndrewNeo 00:19, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Descriptions

I'm not sure if this can go anywhere on the page, but I figured I'd list the descriptions within iTunes for the episodes.

techno -- Some bozo asks about techno music.
japanese cartoon -- Strong Bad makes up his own japanese cartoon.
dragon -- Strong Bad starts a bad drawing revolution.
kids book -- Strong Bad seriously defaces a children's book.
crying -- Strong Bad seriously defaces a children's book. (whoops on their part, apparently)
bottom 10 -- From the home office in Scotsdale, AZ...
caffeine -- Strong Sad gets caffeinated.
virus -- A virus wreaks havoc on the Compy.

I wasn't exactly sure where to put this, but I figured it should at least be listed somewhere around here, so here it is. Spell4yr 07:58, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

lol, reading the edit history for the main page, I suppose I should have left my editorialized comments out of it, or put it separate or in italics or something. Sorry! (I didn't realize they fixed it, though; I guess I'll have to redownload it.) Spell4yr 19:10, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Yeah that stuff, like Jumping Jack Contest, the stuff that was removed from the site that could be seen at like hrwiki.org/mirror/jumpingjacks2.swf, how do you take something from the site, keep it on the computer until they remove it, and have it in a hrwiki link? —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 18:36, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Guitar was a little earlier...

Y'know, Guitar actually was downloadable on the night of February 26th, not the 27th as it says here... maybe we should mention that... --The Experimental Film 21:58, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

The issue with the widescreen ratio and therefore pan and scan style of virus (.mp4) is already mentioned. The navbar is indeed cut off when Homestar picks up the words, if that's what you mean. — Lapper (talk) 16:13, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
Right. I'm curious what that looks like. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 16:14, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
I won't be able to get a screenshot up until I get home, as virus is currently undownloadable. However, it looks as though Homestar's head is pulling words up from nowhere. — Lapper (talk) 16:17, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Does it cost anything to download? Strong Sader

Nope! It's free to download! – The Chort 15:12, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
I understand it is free to download Podstar Runner files to an iPod, but how? I go to podstar.homestarrunner.com/podcast.xml, and can view many sbemails on QuickTime Player, but how to download? It doesen't seem to be on iTunes for download either. And podstarrunner.com, a Brothers Chaps created linked redirect for Podstar, going to podstarrunner.com/podcast.xml just leads to a error 404 page in German asking to contact the webmaster for help. Thanks! —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 15:43, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

It's me again. Everything worked, but I only have email thunder in iTunes for Podcasts. How do I get all of them? Including the ones discontinued which were archived at files.neocodenetworks.com/podstar/. And how do I download them to my iPod? I have, I think a black 8GB Nano Small. Thanks! —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 17:55, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Relative linking

I'm still getting an error when clicking on the navbar links below the Podstar index. Is anyone else? Could they have fixed it and then broken it again when they updated? — It's dot com 04:14, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Do they all work all the time? One of them worked at first and then stopped. — It's dot com 04:20, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
All of them work all of the time. --DorianGray
The first time I load the page, it works for the first link I try. Then it reverts to the relative linking behavior. — It's dot com 04:22, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
It works all the time for me (Flash 7/Fx 1.5/Linux) but looking at the source code it seems it hasn't been "fixed" by TBC at all - it's still relative linking, and there's nothing telling it to go to www.etc instead of podstar.etc. However the main_nav.swf is being loaded from www.etc. So I'm guessing some browsers/versions of Flash/whatever is taking the relative link relative to the page (which won't work) and others take it relative to the .swf (which will work). --phlip TC 04:49, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

File Sizes

The file sizes quoted on the podstar page are sort of innaccurate... In computing, the prefix "kilo", for example, can mean two things - the standard 103= 1000 or the more computer-friendly 210 = 1024 (computers, working in binary, are good for working with powers of 2). Megabytes can, by extension, be 1,000,000 (1000²) bytes or 1,048,576 (1024²) bytes. Usually the binary megabytes are used for things like RAM capacity, since that will always be a power of 2, and file sizes. Decimal megabytes are often used for hard disk capacities (to make them sound bigger, since the number on the box is bigger). (Because of the confusion, SI proposed the prefix Mebi, but it never really caught on.) However the filesizes quoted on the podstar page are such that 1MB = 1,024,000 bytes (1000×1024), which isn't correct either way. Most likely the computer gave the size in kB by dividing by 1024, and TBC then divided by 1000 to get MB. The only thing I know of which uses 1,024,000 megabytes is the 1.44MB floppy disk, which is 1.44×1024×1000 bytes.
The questions are: (1) Can the above be summarised into something suitable for a fun fact? Not so long as to ramble, as the above does, but not so short as to leave out any important information. (2) In the table at the bottom of the article, should we quote (a) the filesize from the podstar page, (b) The actual size in decimal megabytes, (c) The actual size in binary megabytes or (d) separate columns for both (a) and one of (b) or (c). At the moment it is (c), which gets my vote. --phlip TC 03:26, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

There is already the goof:
Many of the listed file sizes are inaccurate. The table below shows the correct file sizes.
and the listing below. What do you want beyond that? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:28, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
Oh, I didn't see that. Still, some explination of why they're inaccurate could be good, since that goof reads like "man, TBC are so dumb they couldn't even get the filesizes right" as opposed to "filesizes are more complicated than they look, and TBC got it wrong". --phlip TC 03:33, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

Just something I noticed...

The description for different town in the XML feed is "How would Strong Bad make the town different?". For as long as I can remember (much earlier than March 13, 2006, anyways), the summary on the Wiki has been "How would Strong Bad make the town different?". It may just be a coincidence, but I doubt it. We know TBC have used the Wiki in the past. —FireBird|Talk 13:03, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

In any case, it looks like that's different from the original description: Steven WV writes in and askes Strong Bad what he would change in his town to make it better, and he sings a weirded-out song, in which he describes how he would change the characters. You'll have to see it to find out!. — Lapper (talk) 21:58, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

This specific piece of trivia: Are you sure?

When the email ends and returns to the animated iPod menu, "Homestarrunner.com" is highlighted. However, the animated menu at the beginning of the email has "Email" selected. The iPod's memory should keep the selection where it was when you left it, not move back to the top.

I only have a 4G iPod, so it may not apply to this, but every time it finishes up a playlist or album, it goes back to the main menu and the top word (Music) is highlighted. But you guys can go ahead and prove me wrong by doing it on your fancy-pants video iPods. I don't mind, really. --Mashi 18:33, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

I'll take this, since no one seems to know the answer. Yes, you can still view a video-podcast on a 4G iPod (that supports podcasts) by viewing the podcast from the Music menu instead of the Video → Video Podcasts menu. It plays the video-podcast as a regular podcast; with only audio. I'm about 90% sure of this, since it can be done this way on a 5G iPod. — Lapper (talk) 06:34, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Binary Technology description added?

When decoded, the description of technology is "Ç,:«" (Not including quotations) Should that be added to trivia or something? Steve Talk Contributions 23:23, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, the binary string is 37 bits (in a row), so it's not going to decode correctly in 7-bit or 8-bit ASCII, or any of the Unicode formats, 'cause it's not a whole number of characters. It might be worth noting that the number in binary is 106930066790 in decimal, like on technology, but I think it's just too trivial. If you're curious, you can check out the conversation that came up over this last time, but there's not much there. Just remember, it's important to note the difference between binary, which is just a way of representing numbers, and ASCII, which is one of many ways of making those numbers represent letters and symbols. It's reasonable to assume that the string of 1s and 0s is binary, but it's not ASCII. --phlip TC 09:16, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

I knew personal favorites was down since early February, since someone posted it on the talk page, but I just realized last night that all these were down. I do know that a few, like trevor the vampire, stunt double, caffeine, and a few others were up at Christmas, seeing as my friend put them on his iPod around that time. Anyway, could anyone mirror them soon? I'm getting an iPod this weekend, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants these emails on the go :P Dr. Clash 21:45, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Glitches

Ok, I noticed a few glitches when watching some toons. for one, when watching theme park, the video freezes when before the cut to Pom Pom and Bubs, but the audio keeps going. You can keep going by fast forwarding a few seconds, but it still always freezes at the same place. Also, with TGS's 6-12, they all start off somewhere in the middle of the cartoon (the same place every time), but pressing the left button brings the toon back to the beginning. However, pressing the center button and scrolling to a certain time will always snap you back to a specific point in the toon. For example, fast forwarding anywhere in TGS7 always snaps to the "dipped it in salt" line. Also, holding the right button just blacks out the toon and brings you back to the menu. I know that it's not just my iPod that does these things, seeing as my friend's does the exact same things, but does anyone else have these problems, too? Dr. Clash

These peoples try to fade me

The reason I'm guessing that this was released was because the version on the CD (which I have) was not compatible with a 5G iPod (which I also have). I put the CD version on iTunes before, but it just said the video "...cannot be played on this iPod". The m4v version worked. DEI DAT VMdatvm center\super contra

One problem I fear will come from making mirrors (No, I do not have the rights or the podcasts): If the service was shut down because too many people posted their podcasts online (I hope you get the irony) then putting them up for download on our website wouldn't do TBC any good. My theories:
  1. TBC got sick of people downloading podcasts of their internet cartoons and posting them on the internet (I'd be happy to explain the irony if it isn't obvious already)
  2. The iPod Touch has an internet brower so they thought people could already use that to watch h*r on an iPod. Bad Bad Guy 21:37, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

It looks like Podstar Runner is going to be treated similarly to Quote of the Week, Weekly Fanstuff and the Sketchbook. Are they taking pictures from the Wiki or is it just a coincidence that they matched the pictures in the Wiki's articles? Bad Bad Guy 23:59, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

this is probably forum talk, no? — Defender1031*Talk 00:00, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Nobody followed the checklist

Is there a place where we can move it so more people can see it? Bad Bad Guy 14:09, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Be paitent. This is just a week-old way of doing it. Give people time to catch on. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 14:48, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

  • That TBC use *our* Wiki screenshots for their thumbnails for the Podcast. That is so l33t. --TheYellowDart(t/c) 02:03, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
    • Wow, you're right! That's awesome. - Saddy Dumpington 14:26, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Is it just me or...

4-5 of the podcasts SO FAR have had the lines "DNA Evidence" will TBC be adding the DNA toon to the podcasts menu? --Chrisyroid 21:52, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

I guess we'll have to see. They seem to be going in order of release since looking old. --DorianGray 21:54, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Or, to be more specific, they are going in order of release since the first email to come out in 2007. Homestar-Winner (talk) 21:57, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Even more specifically, they seem to be choosing emails that go in order of release since looking old. I don't think this toon will appear for a while. Bad Bad Guy 00:17, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

How do you download the old emails?

I checked the page, but only "from work" is available; I can't find any of the other emails on the list. Huh?

Yep, with this incarnation of the podcast, only the latest email is available at any one time. I guess they're trying to limit how much bandwidth the whole operation takes... since that's most likely what brought it down last time. --phlip TC 11:49, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Split?

Thinking aloud... would it be a good idea to split this page into Podstar Runner and Podstar Runner 2006 (or some equally imaginative title)? The page is a bit crowded and confusing at the moment, with transcripts, and blocks of text, and fun facts, all with little qualifiers about whether they're talking about the new podcast or the old one (and even now, some facts talk about the old podcast in the present tense)... it would be a lot simpler to treat them as separate services, and have them on separate pages... maybe with one of those "preceeded by/succeeded by" bars like on the Intros. After all, they're rather different... the only real thing they have in common is that they're both podcasts... 99% of the stuff we have in Fun Facts is different between the two. Thoughts? --phlip TC 11:49, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

I agree with Phlip. Two separate pages would make sense given the sustantial amount of information and lists presently combined on this one article. We've done the same to New Paper and The Paper. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 20:45, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
That might be a good idea. Unlike say Punkin Stencils, where one page can neatly contain all the info, Podstar Runner has a lot of associated information (Fun Facts, transcripts, etc.) that are different depending on the version. By splitting, that might also eliminate some of the problems with the intro, which seems bit too wordy (I know, a rare problem for this wiki, but still...) It would probably also fix the listing of previously available podcasts, which is only going to get worse as time goes on. wbwolf (t | ed) 21:02, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Podstar Runner 2006 would probably look something like this. wbwolf (t | ed) 21:21, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
I see no problem with splitting the article. Bad Bad Guy 20:34, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Broken Wayback Files

When I tried to download bottom 10 and caper from the Wayback Machine, the site said the files could not be found. Can this problem be fixed? Bad Bad Guy 00:36, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

We don't have any control over the Wayback Machine, it's run by other people... so no, we can't fix it. --phlip TC 00:43, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Would those people be able to fix it? Bad Bad Guy 01:19, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

2008 Screencap

The current picture
The one I uploaded

I think we should start a wider discussion on which of these ending screencaps would be more appropiate. I personally think it's preposterous to include Strong Bad in the old ending but not the current one, and if someone (like I did) accidentally glanced at the picture before reading the description they would not know what the heck is going on. Bad Bad Guy 15:12, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

I dunno, I think the one you uploaded makes it harder to interpret what's going on, because the faceprint is more difficult to see in that one. -DAGRON 18:57, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Help?

I download "yes wrestling" last week and now that diorama is out, the latter is the only one that shows up on my iPod while the former is no long there. Is that supposed to happen?

If you click and drag the podcast file to the "Purchased" section of iTunes, it will show up in the Video Playlists: Purchased menu on your iPod. These won't delete themselves but the file in the Podcasts section still will. Hope that helps.--Shaggy | talk 06:41, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

How to watch on PSP

Just put the swf files on your memory stick and navigate to them in the PSP's browser with address "file:/path-to-the-files-on-your-ms/homsar.swf" You can use FireFox to make an index page once you've copied them over - just do a quick search and replace routine to make the URLs relative. Most of the toons will play because they're fairly small but some of the bigger ones wont. You might have to re-encode those.

Does anybody have a homestar runner theme or gameboot for the PSP? --NERD42  email  talk   h²g²  pedia  uncyc  16:55, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Does the Sbemail Podcast fail to update on anyone else's computers? Is there any way I can fix it? BBG 21:30, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Mine is refusing to update as well. I'm led to believe that it's something wrong with the podcast itself. -- Cyberlink420 23:50, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
According to iTunes, the URL isn't a valid podcast feed anymore, which leads me to believe that they accidentally screwed up the XML file. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 05:37, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

A Debatably Important Announcement

I would like to announce ahead of time that I will end my subscription to the sbemail podcast after the Email 200 podcast is released. After that time, someone else will have to assume my duties of removing dead links and adding Podstar Runner stuff (summary, changes, link, category) to emails' pages. BBG 22:44, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Someone else must assume my duties when the Podcast versions of your edge and magic trick come out because I decided to end my subscription earlier than I originally said. I will renew it for emails 199 and 200. BBG 00:56, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I won't be able to add Podcast info for being mean or email thunder either. I had to erase everything on my computer to repair it, and to prevent future breakdowns I must refrain from downloading anymore Podcasts. BBG 00:34, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Microsft Zune

I recently discovered that Microsoft's Zune media player supports M4V as a playable video file; I think this should be added to the list of compatable media players at the bottom of the page. User:Dungeonman262 19:40, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Podstar Runner down?

Am I the only one to notice Podstar Runner has been non-updated for a month now?

Does anyone know why this is?

No Download link?

I can't download any of the previous emails...why is that? I really want to watch some of them on my mp3 player...--Pretztailfan95 16:56, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Go to the "old Podstar Runner files" at the bottom of the page. Shadoman 19:48, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Updated podcast

Um... I've never edited stuff here before, so I'm afraid/lazy to do it myself, but Magic Trick is up (sometime before 11/13/2008 11:50am Pacific time)

Done. It's the first significant edit i've done. Anyone want to check my work?--Flytape8490 20:47, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

New podcast on the feed. I'll start the update cycle for all the pages involved.--Flytape8490 20:33, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Done. I did...
  • whats new update
  • updated this page
  • updated the trivia for "Being Mean" to include show description. Also did this for magic trick, as I forgot to do so last week.
  • removed download link for Magic Trick's
  • added download link for being mean's page
  • added "being mean" to the podcast category
Am I missing anything?

I'm considering updating the screenshot on the PodstarRunner page as part of the podstar update cycle, just to keep it current. Any objections?--Flytape8490 20:19, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Problems with adding to iPod

I got an iPod for Decemberween, and used it to save some Podcasts. I downloaded 91 podcasts from a mirror, but I can only add 72. Am I doing something wrong?

Alright first of all, Jagger88, it is best to make sure you sign talk posts. It makes it easier for people who want to answer your question address you better. Anyway, make sure you have enough space in your ipod. What kind do you have? So, the 91 podcasts you downloaded ended up in iTunes, but when you sync'd iTunes and your iPod only 72 got in the iPod? —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 16:33, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
That's right, Mas.

I have a cell phone, it is kind of just a touch phone with a buit-in itouch. I know all this through that the Nano was my first MP3 Player. Hope that helps! —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 20:59, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

NO NO NO! When you plug in your iPod, on the menu for it on iTunes (Jagger88's iPod, for example) at the top there should be tabs. click on the one for movies. There should be an option to put them on. --Crudely Drawn Cupcake 20:19, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Downloading Being Mean

Whenever I download it from the link on the bottom of the page, it goes to the "Movies" section instead of the "Podcasts" section. Did this happen while it was new? BBG 20:22, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Videogames not working

For some reason the file for "videogames" at http://files.neocodenetworks.com/podstar/ stops at about 2:27. Can anyone fix it? Jezzamon 10:34, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Late response, but: Does it not work on iTunes, or is just on your iPod that it messes up? That happens with my iPod too with some downloaded stuff. The only way I found to fix it is to re-download whatever it is and try to put it on your iPod again. You might not have to re-download the file, just re-put it on the iPod, and delete the old one that isn't working right. --71.58.25.169 00:09, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

There's a userbox saying "This user watches Strong Bad Emails on his/her DSi". Is it even possible to play video on DSi? If so how? That'sBupkis! 18:06, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Rename to 2008

Right now, the two pages are titled Podstar Runner 2006 and Podstar Runner. Since both services have been discontinued, I see no reason to include the year in one title but not the other. I think Podstar Runner should be moved to Podstar Runner 2008, and the current page can be a disambiguation for both years. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 04:36, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
