Could I?

Is this where I request to do the transcript? Toonypie

I beleive it is. CrabAttack1999 22:00, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
You can't "request" a transcript. You just have to be lucky and do it before anyone else gets to it. If no one else has gotten to it, just plunk {{transcriptinprogress}} down on the appropriate section, and get to work. And keep working, or you'll lose your right to it. --DorianGray 22:09, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay fine, i'm new at this. You don't have bite my head off (Get on on my case about it, if you don't know the expression). CrabAttack1999 22:30, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
Also, Who's working on the transcript anyway? I know it isn't me. CrabAttack1999
Nobody edit please :D Doing some homework then finishing.
Huh? What in the— You can't do that!... can he? That Game Dude 386 00:28, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Agreed. Homework is a good call, but no dibs. Never fear, Toonypie, there'll be more transcripts in the future. JamesLucas (" " or +) 00:30, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Dang, these transcripts get claimed fast... almost too fast, it seems. I think we need to make the guidelines a bit more clear for the pageinprogress template (namely when a person loses their claim to a transcript) to prevent this kind of thing from happening again. Maybe a more clearly defined time limit? That Game Dude 386 00:40, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
1:Yeah you can't hold off on something, or it's gonna get claimèd. Plus sign, you don't need to do your homework now. We get off tomorrow for Veteran's Day. 2: They do get too claimed fast. That's prolly because there's prolly like *estimated guess*100 peopleses trying to go for it at once. But it takes longer to do transcripts then it does to claim them. Weird...ed out. CrabAttack1999 01:21, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
That Game Dude, how much more clear can we make "15-30 minutes"? — Defender1031*Talk 02:32, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
No, what I mean is a way for people to realise when a pageinprogress is invalidated. It can be very frustrating to have to check page history, count 15 minutes, take down the pip, then cause an edit conflict because the guy wasn't regularly saving, and he's mad because 30 minutes haven't passed. Perhaps saying "save after 20 minutes" instead of "try to save every 15-30 minutes" would help? That Game Dude 386 02:48, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
The instruction to save every 15 to 30 minutes is a friendly reminder, not a strict timer. At 30 minutes plus 1 second, we're not gonna yank the template off the page and declare the transcript open for anyone else to claim. On the other hand, after an hour with no update, we just might. Or we might not. It depends on the page, the time of day, and other factors. The template is intended to prevent edit conflicts, and that's all. Other editors are requested not to edit a particular section as a courtesy. The person doing the major editing should likewise extend other editors the courtesy of letting them know work is still being done. — It's dot com 16:37, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

 ????!

For the ????! I think he said laditlemen. This is another one of those, uh what's it called? Portmanteau, that's it. It's another portmanteau, because laditlemen is a combanation of "Ladies" and "Gentlemen", but i'm not exact on what he said. But it did sound like he said laditlemen. And if it is, i'd be happy to add it to the portmanteaus page. CrabAttack1999 23:06, 10 November 2009 (UTC) Once a-craping-gain, nevermind that. But if noone added it to the page, i'll do it. CrabAttack1999 23:08, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

SUCCESS! Nobody beat me to adding it to portnateaus. So gentlemadies and ladentlemen, none of you have to worry 'bout that. CrabAttack1999 23:20, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Fadey Screen

This reminds me of the prize slides in Press Your Luck.

It does resemble that, as well as the category displays in The Joker's Wild. --TimMierz 22:31, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Oprah: What is with her?

I think Homestar's line about everyone in the audience getting something (to have to give him five bucks) is a reference to how Oprah gives the entire audience prizes on her show. Or is this too common among other shows to be a reference? — It's dot com 06:54, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, that's kinda common. Ellen DeGeneres does it too. (Was the "This was nrought to you by..." line a ref to Sesame Street, which celebrated its 40th anniversary this week?)216.164.162.244 16:00, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
No, I think that's pretty common too. — It's dot com 16:21, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

No Paint Daubs not mentioned in rules

Okay, this is getting really annoying. When I say that "it was never listed in the contest rules", I refer to the actual, very real contest- not the Homestar's contest, I mean TBC's contest, the one that showed up on the main page, the one Homestar is supposed to be judging. I am not explaining the joke; I am trying to note that the "no paint" rule was never specified in the contest details, and Homestar acts as if it were. PLEASE STOP UNDOING MY STUFF WITHOUT READING IT. I WORDED IT POORLY, I AM TRYING TO FIX IT. Okay, we clear on that? Good. Now, are there any non-"It's explaining the joke" objections? That Game Dude 386 23:17, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

It's still explaining the joke. Even if you phrased a remark something like "The official rules did not mention no paint daubs" it wouldn't be notable, since it is implicit in a pumpkin carving contest that it is not, in fact, a pumpkin painting contest. — Defender1031*Talk 23:21, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
The equivalent would be "Strong Bad said that The Ugly One costume didn't count, but the rules didn't explicitly say that you couldn't draw a picture on a giant box and put the box over your head." I say it's non-notable. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 23:40, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
I think it *is* notable. Why? Because, not having read the official rules as I had no intention of entering, I came to the wiki page after watching this toon with the *explicit* intention of finding out whether that was actually mentioned in the rules, or whether Homestar was just being Homestar. I think it's definitely worthwhile to mention it; "No paint on your pumpkins" is something that *would* actually appear in a pumpkin carving contest's rules; conversely, "no costumes composed of a sheet of paper with a drawing of a stick figure on it" is *not* something you would expect to see in a costume contest's rules, and I doubt anyone is going to actually look to see whether it was there or not. The wiki exists as a source of information for fans, does it not? If any information is useful, should it not be included, when, as in this case, it is of interest and not inherently obvious? KatAngel 07:14, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
I don't see what's wrong with mentioning it. It's relevant, it's a little on the interesting side, and it's something that some people might want to know.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 23:07, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Train kept a-rollin all night long

In rock opera, SB goes into the song by saying, "let's get this train wreck a-rollin'!" Homestar similarly leads into the punkin presentation with "let's get this style train a-rollin'!" Is Homestar's line referencing SB's, or is this just a coincidence/more common phrase than I thought? --TimMierz 21:41, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

AcaWHATco?

What in the world is Acapulco? Did Homestar just make it up? Star Guy T/C 01:50, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Acapulco is a real city in Mexico which was previously referenced in privileges, and trips to Acapulco are often given away as prizes on real-life game shows. See Also: Wikipedia:Acapulco — Defender1031*Talk 01:56, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
