Should we really call every quote that seems to be an outtake of some toon but we can't tell which toon an "exclusive" quote? Most of what are currently known as QotW Exclusives seem to be outtakes. I think we should change them all to "Unknown", except for a few that really are exclusive quotes, like [[Quote of the Week#QW-quote of the day|"This is the Quote of the Day!"]] one. {{User:Homestar-winner/sig}} 23:50, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Quote of the Week Talk: Current | Messages 1-50 | Messages 51-100

Ding! Quote of the Week is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

Ja What?

...all right, I've removed that silly "Ja" fact like, three times, and it keeps getting added back. What *is* the big deal here? Considering it's not actually a real word, and that Schenkel McDoo's grasp of the English language is tenuous at best, this fact seems pointless and demeaning. Should we put a fun fact in buried about how when he says "Yold Ones Vry" at the end, he actually means "Cold Ones Dry"? Some of these so-called "facts" are so ridiculously nitpicky it's not funny. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 23:53, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Are you aware of the linguistic relation between /y/ and /j/? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 23:55, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Ja, but that's really not the issue. "Yah" is perfectly acceptable; I've seen it spelled this way before. It isn't a glaring error that especially needs to be pointed out, because it's really not much more "incorrect", IMO, than Catsup/Ketchup. But let's be serious here. When you consider McDoo uses "Yah" in another line along with "Yold Ones Vry", which isn't proper grammar no matter *how* you look at it, it seems, as I said, excessively nitpicky. That, and I think TBC is allowed to make their characters talk as they want. But eh. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 00:00, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Apart from YK's rant, he has a point. It borders on speculation to assume that he was actually saying "ja". Admittedly, a word meaning "yes" fits there, and he does have a foreign name and accent ("Ja" actually means "yes" in at least 7 languages [1], most notably German - which would also match his accent). In my opinion, it's speculation, and a discussion here on the talk page is all the documentation we need. Loafing 00:01, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
...this wouldn't be the first time I've complained about some of us being a tad bit too nitpicky here... -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 00:11, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Given that Taranchula are clearly portrayed as Scandinavian, I don't think it's at all unreasonable to speculate that they were saying "ja". I wouldn't call spelling it "yah" a goof, but I think noting that the real Scandinavian word is "ja" is worthwhile. Heimstern Läufer 04:24, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Oops, I didn't know they were Scandinavian. OK, now the fact makes perfect sense and it should be noted somewhere! Loafing 05:39, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Marshieween

I think the quote's from Marshieween. Awexome 22:25, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

help with syncing

I can't get the quotes to sync from itunes to my ipod. anyone know how to do that? --Shaggy 18:06, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Quote download

Am I alone in this? I tried to listen to the QOTW (Sweetness Sweetness) but I cannot get it to play. I have a new computer, but the archived MP3's work fine, just not the one on the official site. Any ideas? (Windows Vista) Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:14, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

You having trouble with Hear It or Get It? (I have Vista, and I can get both to play just fine.) --Jay (Talk) 02:17, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm running into some weirdness too. I go to the main page, and the current quote of the week is the grocery list thing ("Amazing thing, amazing thing," etc.). If I follow the link from the wiki to Strong Sad's "Sweetness, Sweetness" quote, I get a blank black page titled "Oops! You bwoke it." I suspect it may have been taken down? --DeathbyChiasmus 02:55, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm having the same problem (Mac OS X 10.5.x). I've even tried using a different browser and clearing cache. I am wondering if there is some weird cacheing somewhere along the line, rather than a local problem. wbwolf (t | ed) 03:11, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Same problem here. Windows XP, btw. But by doing proxy surfing I was able to hear it. Strange, strange, strange. Even hours later I can't get to http://www.homestarrunner.com/weeklies/ss_sweetness.mp3. It just tells me I bwoke it. =] OptimisticFool 07:00, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm still getting a 404 from it, too.— Bassbone (TALK Strong Mad Has a Posse CONT) 04:55, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Jay: On the site it works great. From this article it does not. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 05:43, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
I cannot see the new QotW on the official site at all. It's still Homestar's grocery list. I've cleared my cache twice.— Bassbone (TALK Strong Mad Has a Posse CONT) 07:22, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
I am having the same problem as bassbone, i've cleared my cache 3 times but it's still the grocery list. it works fine in my PS3 web browser, but not my PC. hazzard4123 17:23, 21 June 2008
Well, I guess whatever happened is over now. MichaelXX2 01:44, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
This all seems to be more evidence for my theory that H*R is hosted on more than one server, with a load-balancer or something, and they don't always keep them in sync properly... things like this, the lime in Let us give TANKS!, passwords on .exe files like the screensavers... sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, depends what server you're hooked up to. --phlip TC 08:57, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

"if" vs. "of it"

I think that we should still put "of it" instead of "it" in the newest QotW because that is what Bubs said. The Brothers Chaps of course didn't mean to put "if". Plus I already mentioned this mistake in Goofs. Homestar-Winner (talk) 19:41, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Archive?

This page is getting awfully long. 73 kilobytes, to be exact. Should we employ some archiving here? I was thinking a style similar to the Weekly Fanstuff or Sketchbook. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 01:05, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

It's been mentioned before here. Heimstern Läufer 01:08, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Newest quote mirror

A message mainly for Tom, did you know that there still is no mirror mp3 of the newest Crack Stuntman quote? Homestar-Winner (talk) 02:56, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Get Smart Reference?

"We are just talkin' about Bubs with a piece of paper stapled to his face, right?" — In the recent Get Smart movie, Agent 23, played by The Rock, staples a piece of paper to another agent's face. I think this may well be a reference, though it's hard to prove it. — Defender1031*Talk 20:06, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Well, this quote seems to be a Happy Dethemberween blooper, which was made before Get Smart came out. So, this would be very unlikely. Homestar-Winner (talk) 20:51, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps. But i have long felt that it's possible that some of the supposed "outtakes" are actually made after the fact. — Defender1031*Talk 21:33, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Mmm, I dunno. And so, any thinking so would just be speculation, right? Homestar-Winner (talk) 02:36, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Alternate link

I already did this, but is it okay to put up an alternate link to download the fist two QOWs with since we have no mirror to it? MichaelXX2 18:46, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

I removed them. As before, I doubt the authenticity of those recordings. The quality is very poor, lower than in the actual toons themselves. They appear to be recorded by someone other than the The Brothers Chaps. How did you find them? Do you know their source? -- Tom 19:00, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I recorded them myself. I thought they might be of assistance since we don't have a link...

Download Help

I can't get any of these to download because I have Quicktime, which only allows downloads through a paid version that I don't have. Anyone know how to make Quicktime NOT the default download choice? Shaggy, who is currently not signed in.

If you right-click on the links in the list here, you should get a menu that you can choose "Save link" or "Save target" or similar... that should save straight to disk, rather than going through QuickTime. As for disabling QT completely (so that you could download them from the H*R site, for instance), I'm not sure... but it'd help to know what version of QuickTime you have, which browser (Internet Explorer? Firefox? Which version?) and which OS (Windows? Mac? Linux? Again, which version?). --phlip TC 07:05, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

It's QT version 7.5.5, Internet Explorer, and WindowsXP. And the "Save target" worked, so thanks :)--Shaggy | talk 08:07, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Other

I don't know the source of the latest quote. Someone fix it please. Thanks! —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 01:09, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

I believe it's a Most in The Graveyard outtake.

Quote of the a few weeks

Has anyone noticed that the gaps btw qods are getting bigger? Seriously, they haven't changed it since, what, like Nov. 20? 'Tsup widdis?--Lifty Fernandez

It's most probably the same as any of the other delays in emails and toons and so on: working on the game or the recent DVD. --DorianGray 22:07, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

People have also noticed that the current quote is broken and has been for weeks, right? On the day the quote was originally going to have been switched out there was indeed a new quote there, briefly. Strangely it switched back within 6 hours and broke itself, and it hasn't been tended to since. --74.170.121.220 22:17, 14 January 2009 (EST)
