Wherfore art thou Cory?

Oughtn't Cory to be a Running Gag? A cursory search turns up:

Ok. let's review: 12:00 and cheat talk: It's the sender's name, already listed on Strong Bad Email By Name of Sender.
Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 11.2: Legit sightning.
That A Ghost:Another legit sightning.
Main Page 22: An Inside References to That A ghost. Not legit.
So actualy we have just two legit sightnings of the smae name. Not a running joke. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 05:24, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
And another think to different it from Jerome, is that it have no character interaction. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 05:25, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

Diapers

I think diapers should be a running gag or an Inside Reference. A search shows that diapers (especially diaper school) is on H*R eight times. SaltyTalk! 03:34, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

I don't even want to know why you were searching that. ;) But it sounds like a doable page... Let's see what others think. --DorianGray
Is there more than diaper school and Reynold's "diaper biscuits"? Those alone probably wouldn't convince me, but if there's more, it might. Heimstern Läufer 07:22, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
  • In i rule, he claims to have owned Strongbadia since diaper school.
  • The page title of Teen Girl Squad Issue 7 is "Diaper school grads!"
  • In the Homestar Quiz, if you get 7 answers correct, Strong Bad says "Sweetheart, wake up! It's time for diaper school...."
  • In the Homestar Quiz, if you get 3 or 4 answers right, he says "...I know kids in diaper school that are smarter than you, man!"
  • Strong Sad wears a diaper in A Decemberween Pageant.
  • In secret recipies, Homestar wants to make "Stupid Uncle Egg's Goodtime Diaper Pie".
  • Lil' Strong Bad had the record for the "Dirtiest Diapey" and wore a diaper in record book.
  • In a TrogdorCon '97 Easter Egg, Strong Bad says "Man if I see another person in a diaper..."
  • In Commandos in the Classroom, Reynold tried to swear and says "Diaper biscuits".
  • In a colonization Easter Egg, Homestar says diapers will no longer be valid as legal tender.
  • In Peasant's Quest, you can get the Baby Lady to say something about her baby's diapers if you ask about smell.
  • In Halloween Potion-ma-jig, if you chose to sing a song to Bubs, the lyrics will be something about diapers.

That's 11/12 legit diaper articles. SaltyTalk! 18:11, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Hmm, that does seem legit to me. Anybody else agree? Heimstern Läufer 18:23, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
It's been made. And for quite a while now. — talk Bubsty edits 23:32, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Yes, Bubsty, that's right. The Diapers article was created on 21 December 2005 because of this discussion. -- Tom 02:41, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
Hmm... I wonder who made it... Has Matt? (talk) 03:56, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
I hate to make this an issue, Bubsty, but this is a good example of the problem with replying to discussions that have passed their expiration date. You thought you were pointing out that this discussion was way after-the-fact, thinking the page had been around for several months before the discussion. In fact, it was the other way 'round; the page was created after the discussion—as a result of it—and the only thing on this page that postdated the creation of Diapers was your edit. So rather than pointing out the untimeliness of others' discussion, you in fact created it. —AbdiViklas 04:50, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
I was just pointing out to users/IPs who read this page that it has been made and there was no need to reply... went the other way around I see. — talk Bubsty edits 05:13, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
That makes more sense. I apologize for a mini-lecture! Future visitors: consider yourselves notified. —AbdiViklas 05:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Style

I find it hard to believe that there's no mention that the word "style" is often used. I know there's more, but a quick few instances I can think of off the top of my head are Price Style, Sample of Style, Styles upon Styles, "Strong Bad gots the Style", "stylish jig", "you can't handle my style, no you can't handle my style", "Get out of here, Nebulon! No one likes your style", Uncle Strong Bad's Flavor Taste Style Chewing Powders, "The Cheat that it's the latest style!", Strong Bad's Buffalo Style Ranch, Hairstyle Runner... Gus 22:09, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Gus, if you find that you think this page should be created, why don't you come on the IRC channel and get some feedback. If it sounds like a good page to other users, you can go and create it yourself. — Lapper (talk) 22:24, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Crush on Marzipan?

My friend thinks that The Cheat has a crush on Marzipan and that that should be a running gag. Do you think that that is true? One example of this is in do over easter egg and there are many others throughout the strong bad emails.Sbdisciples 21:34, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

In do over we get to see The Cheat totally smothered in kisses. Either Marzipan is so stupid to think he was Homestar, or she's into a more open relationship that our family-friendly format would allow us to describe. Either way, some things are better left unsaid, perhaps. (No vote here, just observations.) Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:30, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Strong Bad's hair

In gimmicks, Strong Bad combs back what looks like hair coming out of a burnt hole in his mask. In marzipan Strong Bad quickly combs the top of his wrestling mask with a small pink comb. Perhaps A lesser gimmick currently of Homestarrunner is the fact that Strong Bad actually has hair beneath his mask. Should there be a page for this? Sbdisciples 04:57, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Not really, since Strong Bad actually isn't wearing a mask. That's his head. --DorianGray
I beg to differ Dorian. Strong bad does not say that his mask is his head. Instead he asks Abdi Larue if he takes off his head. If strong bad's head is his mask and is gloves are his hands, how come in "In Search of the Yello Dello" he wears oven mitts. Do you have a spare pair of hands, I thought not. In the commentary for In Search of the Yello Dello Strong Bad says that the gloves were digitally added. If this is so, and Strong Bad isn't just being defensive, does Strong Bad take battle axe lessons and not where the shown thong on a stick. You tell me... Sbdisciples 13:21, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
And also what are the threads on the back of his "head". I think that it is keeping the mask on Sbdisciples 04:19, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
In Search of the Yello Dello was a really long time ago, and not done in the standard style, either. Also, in disconnected, you can see the bottom of Strong Bad's head when he's rolling along--not well, but enough to see it's solid. I'm pretty convinced his mask is his head. Following that, the Brother Chaps have also said one of the emails they will never answer is "what do you look like without your mask on?", which, although arguable, is proof in my book. To round it out, he's also grown a very fine moustache, which'd be pretty hard to do through a mask. Finally, Strong Bad himself has stated that he has no hair. --DorianGray
Do we ever see his mustache? And some kinda robot is also very old. Sbdisciples 04:40, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
And maybe he just didn't want to cut his hair so he made that up Sbdisciples 04:40, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Homestarrunner sings

What is with Homestarrunner and singing. It seems like every time he hears a song he sings it and he also likes to sing about bread. What do you think. These sightings contain: origins when he has his bread sing alongs, monument in the easter egg where he sings the thnikkaman song, bottom ten with the buttdance song, and The House That Gave Sucky Treats. He seems to sing a lot and I am sure that there are more singing sightings. Sbdisciples (Talk | contribs) (left unsigned)

Hmm, this might be something good to be put on Homestar Runner's page... I'm not sure if it's a running gag or simply a character trait... --phlip TC 14:08, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Don't worry. All these songs (and more!) are listed on Songs. – The Chort 14:09, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Long legs

It is a running gag that in almost every Powered by The Cheat toon Strong Bad's leg gets long and kicks Homestar.

This was removed from crazy cartoon. Anyone agree or disagree? — It's dot com 00:43, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

I'd like to be the first to point the irony of "Long Legs" being a "Running Gag". Thunderbird 00:48, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Coppin' a feel?

Is it possible that someone "a-Grabbin' mah butt" as homestar aptly put it, or "David Coppafeel"...ing... as marzipan put it a recurring joke of some kind? They both happened after the lights go out in an unexplicable manner, and, to my knowledge, these are the only two instances of blackouts Throughout the site. Anyone else think this? Alcnolien Has Spoken! 21:36, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

It's possible, although we usually wait for the third occurrance of something to call it a running gag. — It's dot com 21:40, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm Confused...

Ok here's something i do not get. How cone on this page we say we have a Homestar running gag, yet when i look inside there is nothing of the sort. What is up with that? Sbmaniac 22:42, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure what your question is, but this page serves as a gateway to all the running gags. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:47, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
I think the question is, "why is the image on this page Homestar Running, when that isn't a running gag?" In short, there were too many edit wars about which image should be used, and so the generic Homestar Running image was used. Maybe some sort of MediaWiki extension (like HomsarQuotes) could be written to display a random running gag image, thus solving everybody's problems with the image. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 22:55, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
thanx guys. WHo would've guessed a whole WAR was over a single image. Sbmaniac 23:29, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Butt?

I think that the word "butt" appears a whole lot o' times on the site. Drummer19

So does the word the Forddude1416 03:44, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
I thnikkaman- sorry, think- that this is old, but I have something to comment. So does the word a. --Fangoriously 22:41, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Freaking and Sucks?

Are the words freaking and sucks running gags, seeing that they're used nearly as much as crap? --Sam Goldfish 14:52, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Crap is a running gag becuase it was so overused of a while on the site, that it's almost un heard off now. Can you provide similar info for those two words, and besides a long list of appearences have something to write about them? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 15:00, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Maybe this and this will help. --Sam Goldfish 15:08, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
For common words like "freaking" and "sucks" to appear 20-30 times in toons, it's too little. "crap" appear 160 times. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 15:20, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Many running gags are about common things. --Sam Goldfish 16:23, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
But not common words. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 18:04, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Does anybody else have anything to say about this? --Sam Goldfish 00:42, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
IMO, they haven't yet broken the ice into gagship. —BazookaJoe 00:56, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Unnecessary S's

It seems to like the unnecessary adding of an "S" to a word is a huge running gag on the site. I think it needs a page.

Some examples of Unnecessary S's:

  • Be's
  • kid's book: "Some people wears glasses. Beth looks like a dude."
  • Senorial Day: "Hey there, every peoples!"
  • for kids, The KOT's Good Gravy Easter egg: "I don't lets the Poopsmith near it!"
  • the bet: "No ways."

Those are the three I can think of off the top of my head. Put some more examples here if any of you guys think of any.

I agree. Great point! —Supuhstar* Image:Supuhstar(SupuhSmall).gif

The Beatles have become a running gag of sorts.

The person who called them "Gags". ——Supuhstar* Image:Supuhstar(SupuhSmall).gif
Loafing, you do not find the above references in those toons to be humorous? I do. But still, I don't see this as a running gag as much as a common reference. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:36, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Vague

A discussion on whether a page on vague or vagueness should be created.

From a deleted article...

I have neither the talent nor the time to make this page, but I just couldn't leave it blank- that's just who I am. But I would really appreciate it if someone that does that kind of thing since vagueness is mentioned way too often to just be a fluke. Personally, I would call it a running gag, but that's just me. If there is anything to discuss about the possible creation and future maintenance of this page, please see this page's discussion. ——Supuhstar* Image:Supuhstar(SupuhSmall).gif

I would like to know who thinks what about this artivle and it's possible creation. — —Supuhstar* Image:Supuhstar(SupuhSmall).gif

I don't think it's a running gag — searching for vague, I only found three uses: a "Vague Pigmentation" crayon, "eStrong Vague Online Investments", and one other use in a sentence. The other appearances are just text within our articles, not quotes from Homestar Runner features. Vague is a pretty common word, and I don't think it appears enough to warrant special attention. Also, I'm going to delete this talk page — this discussion here is enough for now. Trey56 19:17, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
So? Trogdor was a running gag when he only appeared 3 times, and so is DNA Evidence. ——Supuhstar* Image:Supuhstar(SupuhSmall).gif
There's a big difference, though. Trogdor is a major character, whereas "vague" is a common adjective. By your argument, the adjective "cool" would be a running gag since it appears so many times in a similar search — it's not though, it's just a common word. Trey56 19:47, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
I agree, it's like that "purple" page that got deleted a while back. (Thanks Loafing) It's just not specific enough. DeFender1031 19:58, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Trogdor was not a major character when he was first introduced, and whoever made him a running gag apparently thought so, too. ——Supuhstar* Image:Supuhstar(SupuhSmall).gif
In my defense, I meant it shouldn't be just the physical (printed) form or word (spoken) form, but also the concept of vagueness or being vague, such as T-TV, TV Show!, and Strong Bad saying "I gotta go... Place...". ——Supuhstar* Image:Supuhstar(SupuhSmall).gif
There's always Nondescript Nouns. I think that that's where all the vagues fit. Dr. Clash 02:51, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Allow me to restate the last statement in response to Dr. Clash's last statement: The subject "vague" applys not only to the vague things, the vague things they do, and the vague places they "go," but also the concept of them being vague and using this to get them out of awkward situations, etc. ——Supuhstar* Image:Supuhstar(SupuhSmall).gif

The CONCEPT of being vague? No. The word "vague"? Yes. It really depends. I mean, those three things Trey found are pretty notable. It seems to be a PURPOSEFUL commonly used word, not another Purple. I like it, but, I think for a page like this, we probably need more than three. So, in conclusion, it sounds like a good idea for the usage of the word "vague" to me, but I don't think it has enough uses to be a productive page. Bluebry 00:02, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

This common word will have to have many more appearances then those three to have an article. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 13:31, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Just to add to the list of vague things, there's also the instance in the transcript of Teen Girl Squad 12 where BOY 1 is saying "Band name. Band name. Band name. Band name." Implying that he is naming off a list or having a conversation about vague possible band names. —Supuhstar* Image:Supuhstar(SupuhSmall).gif

Ghosts

Aside from the Bad Grapics Ghost, which has warrented it's own character page, I was just wondering if ghosts in general have appeared enough to be an running gag.-- DongleGoblin 16:37, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

There's Old-Timey Ghost, but that was really a one-off; and then a couple Halloween toons had ghosts (Homestarloween Party, Pumpkin Carve-nival), but ghosts are par for the course on Halloween. So... doesn't seem so in my opinion.  Green Helmet 17:16, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
The email Ghosts, and then a couple of scattered appearences, like in Trogday '08. Thought that would've been enough.-- DongleGoblin 22:33, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Bad Acting

Well, I've been wondering if perhaps 'Bad Acting' could be added to the list of running gags. That is, when the characters try to act, but are horrible at it. Examples might include the Decemberween Pageant, or the skit with the most recent email. Seems a sort of a parody of bad amateur stage productions.
