I don't think the map really looks like Peasantry...  IMO, this is a reference to the Lord of the Rings maps that appear in the beginning of the books (at least the editions I have) - especially considering the spelling of "Egglünd" and "Eggmünd" - Tolkien seemed to have a liking of those sorts of vowel accents without any real reason behind them, though he was admittedly more fond of accents such as "â," as in "Rohân."  Also, "Whatsitshire" sounds suspiciously like "The Shire."  Just a thought.  --{{User:SBLOUNSKCHED!/sig}} 08:01, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm just wondering if there deserves to be a remark on how many times those tissues have already been used. (as Strong Bad's wording is slightly ambiguous) "Already Re-Reused Ones" by my count it is three times. (Used is once, reused is two, re-reused is three and the "already" is inconsequential, since "used" and "already used" mean the same thing) It's a little bland for a remark, but I thought I'd propose it.

Does anyone know if any of Strong Bad's, Strong Sad's, Strong Mad's, Homestar's, and the Cheat's symptoms link to an actual disease? They seem all made up and different, but a few of their symptoms are similar:

*Strong Bad and the Cheat both had nausea and/or puking

*Strong Mad and Homestar had "smelling problems"

[edit] I feel so bad for the Cheat!

Ok, this may be minor, but it almost sounds like Homestar is saying "Four miles For hours" or "four miles four hours" instead of "Four miles per hour" Am I the only one? --Stux 08:19, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Yes.
Yeah, I went back and listened to it, and he *does* say "per hour" but his p is a little "ph"-afied. Incredible. --Stux 20:25, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)

[edit] The Paper Filmography

Is the The Paper's first appearance outside of a Strong Bad email? -- tomstiff 14:02, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)

No. - Joshua

And also Arcade Game - sarducci

For that matter, is this the first appearance of an actual e-mail (well, it seems like a legitimate e-mail) outside of an official numbered sbemail segment?

Yes. -Young Roy

[edit] sick lappy

the reason you dotn get ripples when you click the lappy is because it is sick with a virus too!!!

No, if TBC wanted to make the Lappy sick, it would have been more obvious. - Joshua 17:02, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sick as well

Yeah I've been doing my best not to get sick either. It's been going around! It's a fitting reflection of reality that TBC made through this short today. --Stux 20:28, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Weird... I've been a little snuffly too. Maybe TBC is just psychic and predicted we'd ALL be sick as dogs today. Ookelaylay 22:46, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Or (eerie music) maybe TBC made us sick today! --notstrongorbad 02:17, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Or maybe because TBC have about 50,000+ viewers, a bunch of them were bound to be sick during the time of this toon's release. ;) - Joshua 02:23, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I wasn't sick but my freind but they haven't heard of Homestar Runner! So it isn't a big coincedence there is something going round so maybe thats why they made this short -- Strong Lad

[edit] Grayest or Greatest?

"STRONG SAD: {groans} This is the ______ day of my life. I feel like a few dollars."

Alright, this has been changed multiple times now. Is he saying "grayest" or "greatest?" - Camalex(talk) 18:34, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)

  • Greatest. Not only is that I hear it as, but "grayest" doesn't make sense in context. (regarding the dollar sentence) - Joshua 18:48, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Greatest. I definitely hear a consonant in there. It's a little muffled because of his illness. The joke is that for a depressing person, being sick means he's actually having a good day. The second line is a play on "I feel like a million dollars," which only a person having the greatest day of their life would say. The grayest day of Strong Sad's life is every other day. — It's dot com 18:50, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)
    • Second. -- tomstiff 19:27, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Greatest. For exactly the reasons It's dot com gave. --DorianGray
    • That's what I thought. Then I came here and it said "grayest" so I was confused. It kept getting changed, so I just wanted to see what people said on it... - Camalex(talk) 18:52, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Greatest. For all the reasons already stated. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 19:39, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Greatest. See above, and earlier someone put greenest, so I went back to hear it carefully, and indeed heard him pronounce the consontant! --Stux 20:29, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Grayest. - when someone has the greatest day of their life, they feel like a million dollars. When someone has the grayest day, they only feel like a few dollars. Makes perfect sense.
  • Greatest. Strong Sad never has a good day, ever. It makes sense for him to think the greatest day of his life to be worth a couple bucks. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 21:45, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Greenest! Seriously! That's what I thought when he said it. Why else would he say like he felt like some dollar bills? Also, his face looked green. Ju Ju Master
  • Greatest. The joke is that Strong Sad's day is better when he (or Strong Bad?) has a disease than normally. -AtionSong 23:36, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Greatest. Exactly!!!!!!!!!(I also agree with the "Or Strong Bad?" thing) 20X6 GEM
  • Greediest. To me, Strong Sad is saying "greediest." How about any of you? GWR_Wikisig.gifGWR 2004 TalkContribs 01:53, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
    • Comment. Greediest? "This is the greediest day of my life."?! That makes no sense, and I hear greatest. I think the conclusion is obvious now. - Joshua
  • Greatest. Not because it necessarily makes sense in context or in character or anything like that, but just because that's what it sounds like. Actually it sounds more like "Greadest" but anyone who's had a blocked nose knows that 't's are hard to pronounce and often come out as 'd's. --phlip TC 03:28, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Greatest. Indeed, it is 'greatest.' The "t" is partially swallowed, (or, to take the "hooked on phonetics" route, his pronunciation has an incomplete plosive stop, muddying the sharpness of the "t"), but it is there. THE SMOKING MONKEY 12:04, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Greatest. The t is kind of blended with the est, so I could see why people could think it was grayest. But, it's Greatest.--minibaseball.png Bkmlb(talk to me·stuff I did) 18:18, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Greatest. I'm pretty sure I hear a consonant in there. --Blu Aardvark (talk) (edits) 13:16, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Okay guys, you can stop voting now. I'm pretty sure a consensus has been reached. ;) - Joshua 13:25, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Uh, did we consider gravest? I really think that's what he's saying, and it makes sense in the context. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 19:52, 6 Oct 2005 (UTC)
No way, José. (It's funny 'cause that's really your name.) Seriously, the "I feel like a few dollars" remark (which is good for Strong Sad) doesn't fit with gravest. — It's dot com 20:06, 6 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Just curious here. How many of you are listening to H*R on a crisp headset? It's much easier tell what is being said on those, compared to awkward computer speakers. The "T" sound in Greatest is hardly audible, I'll give you that. But if you are a native speaker of English, you know very well that you can make an understood "T" sound by barely touching the roof of your mouth with your tongue. Go on, try saying it. I don't think too many of you would put any stress on the first T. BazookaJoe over and out at 20:01, 6 Oct 2005 (UTC).
Ahh... Diction! (BTW I do have headsets but i haven't used them)... I learned once this little lesson thingy (don't know what it would be called) for when you sing: "Diction is done with the tip of the tongue and the teeth!" I just thought of that when you mentioned the T thing for native speakers. When you sing you have to enunciate, and make your consonants clear so the audience can hear, cuz in our everyday speech we just slur them out. --Stux 02:39, 7 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Greatest:For the same reason It's dot Com said. -Young Roy

[edit] What is it then?

[edit] Laugh or Cry

This may just be me but it sounds more like The Cheat is laughing mischievously while in the puke pail. Does anyone else think so or do I need my ears checked? Stinkoman Z

You need your ears checked. - Camalex(talk) 23:38, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)

YEah. It also sounds like he might be doing a small bit O' pokun at the end part of his puke pail appearence. 20X6 GEM

  • Cry:It looks like, in my opinion, he's crying because he puked, and fell in the bucket, and has a hard time getting out, and crying because he's stuck in a bucket full of puke!

[edit] Puke pail

So, why didn't the puke pail get brought to Strong Bad? --The 386 00:10, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Whoever was told to do so (The Cheat) was busy up-chucking. GWR_Wikisig.gifGWR 2004 TalkContribs 00:14, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

fine it can be a reference to alot of stores okay? jeez...-User:Timmy!
hello????????anyone their?-User:Timmy!
If it's a referense to a bunch of stuff then it's not really noteable, as everyone would know it already. It's too broad to make a comment about it. Think about it, you wouldn't put "Strong Bad's gloves are red. This is a referense to other things that are red" would you? - Camalex(talk)
He's right about the glove reference. It's spelled wrong and will never make it on the Wiki due to that, but this store thing was something I hadn't thought of... When I did, though, I also thought of those blue and pink towels that say for her and for him, so there's a lot of stuff out there. We really can't stuff the site. People won't let me do it, either. I feel sorry for you, Timmy. We have an idea and they get rid of it. I'm off to check if paint pen still is up... Mortacai 18:01, 4 Oct 2005
...and Camalex, why is it whenever I see a reference that is being shot down by only one person, it's you? Sir, you love the status quo too much. This is the internet. The internet changes.
By only one person? Josh fixed that one you were so worked up about, and then notstrongorbad defended me. 1+1+1=3. Wow! That's more than 1, eh? :-P So, in other words, I was doing something that multiple people agreed with, yet no one but you defended? Seriously, go hang out at "Recent Changes" for a while. TONS of stuff gets reverted, rarely by me. Yes, the internet changes, but stupid or obvious facts will forever remain stupid and/or obvious. - Camalex(talk) 02:01, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)
I defended you, Camalex, largely because very insulting language had made its way into the edit summaries. What stays and what goes in the Wiki is never really a measure of the absolute truth (or absolute "stupidity" or obviousness) of a given fact; the Wiki is a liquid that assumes the form of its users. Some facts never have a chance from the get go, but that's simply because the weight of opinion is so strong against them that they could be described as "stupid." (Though I'd rather not.) Like a river finding its way through mountains, the Wiki oscillates between conflicting opinions and finally stabilizes in something that expresses the average of those opinions. Sometimes it's a million to one; sometimes, like the infamous Family Guy, it's a hotly contested oscillation, and an uneasy stability. But, aside from obvious objective realities about the 'toons, the Wiki is a joint agreement of subjective opinions. If, years in the future, a generation of wikiers with completely different opinions about these things were in charge, the Wiki would adapt to the averaged contours of their opinions. I'm getting too wordy--my point is, it's understandable to be angered by the perception that your initial contributions to the Wiki are unwanted (I made several false starts for the same reason). I tried to squelch some dialogue that was not making the Wiki a "happy place"--so don't respond to it in kind. --notstrongorbad 05:09, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Gentlemen(?), gentlemen! The WRWiki is a lively place that often reminds me of gas in a compressed space. You have all these molecules bouncing and slamming and whipping around...well, to make the analogy make more sense, the molecules would have to have feelings. And know how to edit wiki-style. And know something about Homestar Runner. Regardless, sometimes the best laid edits of mice and diffrent mice get reverted, or changed, or deleted. It's frustrating, especially for those who want desperately to contribute. And sometimes this leads to a bit of testiness, or outright name-calling between users when things don't go exactly as they planned. My advice, as trite as it may sound, is relax. Contributions, recognition and acceptance stack up with time, and letting set-backs freak you out or drag you down (to the point of feeling a persecution complex) isn't positive for anyone.

Taking things too personally can lead to the, um, Dark Side of Wikidom. Let me close with an awful limerick about a real experience I had that sort of relates to the issue:

There was once a anonymous user with an IP,

and I reverted some changes of he.

Not much did he like this,

and with a sure quickness,

he wrote some profane stuff about me.

But it is good to talk, good to vent. But relax. We should all be able to work things out in a civil way. And maybe we'll all get closer to that "happy place." — THE SMOKING MONKEY 12:57, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Rotten Egglund

I believe that the map of rotten egglund could be a reference/spoof of the map to far off lands

It's a reference to Peasant's Quest. The 386 My talk

I don't think so, compare: Map from Sick Day Map from Yello Dello Map from Peasant's Quest - it's closer to the Yello Dello one, I think. --phlip TC 13:00, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Hey question: How many of these maps are out there? Just those three? Are they grouped together in some fashion (via a category or an article)? --Stux 16:59, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Speaking of which, why is Strong Mads room toxic? Seek Bar

I don't know. I think it's just a continuation of TBC's love of old timey cartography.

Maybe his breath was bad and since he shouts all the time... Seek Bar

--Image:SBsig.gifSBLOUNSKCHED! t/c 08:01, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Is this necessary?

Is this, under "Remarks", necessary?

 - The images of Homestar's "word problem" are actually in front of Homestar.

I'm just asking. Is it relevant enough?

CJSF

Well, if you watch carefully, the thermometer passes behind the drawings at one point. I think that's what it means. It seems interesting enough to me... --DorianGray
It's not something you'd notice unless you really looked for it. But the thermometer goes go behind it and also, when it pops, the "explosion" goes in front of Homestar. I think it's interesting to note because you'd assume it was on the wall behind him. - Joshua 18:03, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

If for any reason it ultimately survives, it should be reworded; I though it meant that the visuals were, directionally, "in front" of Homestar's face, i.e. not behind his back. --notstrongorbad 18:38, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Well, it's gone now. Feel free to STUFF the original or a revised version. — It's dot com 18:40, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Toxic answer

It STINKS in there! So, I'd say that Strong Mad is sick, causing the room to STINK. The 386 My talk

Wow, you're so smart. We never realized that. [/sarcasm] Seriously, that was pretty obvious. - Joshua 22:58, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I am so smart, aren't I? I guess no one would want to go in there. If that happened, the air would be let out. --The 386 My talk 00:32, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)

That was kind of the whole point of the joke >.> - Camalex(talk) 01:53, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sick Chaps?

Ever since 12AM Monday morning, I had been wondering why their was no new SB email for this week. Then this thing came out in the later the same day, as a toon. But I noticed it seemed like maybe it was originally intended to be an SB email, especially because Strong Bad got an email at the beginning. I was just thinking maybe Mike Chapman himself might have gotten sick, which could explain the lack of an SB email, and could have inspired the short itself. What does anyone else think about this?--Sanyo 06:47, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)

There's certainly nothing unusual about a Monday release being late in the day. But what with all the talk of who's sick, it did cross my mind that maybe the inspiration was that TBC themselves had a bug. Of course they wouldn't be as incapacitated as everybody in the 'toon, or else they wouldn't feel like doing one any more than Strong Bad. Of course this remains the wildest of speculation; I just wanted to say it did cross my mind as well. --notstrongorbad 07:32, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Actually, this toon came out before 8:00 AM CDT. Is this late in the day? GWR_Wikisig.gifGWR 2004 TalkContribs 12:56, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Well actually I am in Japan, so because of the time difference I can`t check all day..so I saw it in the evening. Of course, I actually had no idea when it was posted. Just thought they are always in the early morning.
But still, this is a toon, not a SB email. That means that no SB email was released for this week. I`m just now thinking, maybe they posted as toon rather than an email because the question was never actually answered. Anyway, the thing I`m still wondering about is Matt and Mike.--Sanyo 04:53, 6 Oct 2005 (UTC)
There's always the possibility that they want a few more toons for the new dvd that they're releasing.... Alcnolien 12:23, 6 Oct 2005 (UTC)
This is a bit old, but I thought I'd mention it anyways. All theories of the Bros. Chaps being sick were correct. The DVD reveals that Matt was sick and the voices were all messed up as a result. Hence, this toon. --DorianGray

[edit] Real Email

Does anyone know if this is a real email or not?

I don't see why TBC would have to make it up. I'm pretty sure it's real. - Joshua 13:26, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)
They've kind of made a point in the past of saying every single email is real and unedited. --notstrongorbad 18:28, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)
They have to have gotten this question like 20 times by now, so it`s gotta be real.--Sanyo 04:38, 6 Oct 2005 (UTC)
A user at GameFAQ's said it was his exact email. He could be pulling my leg, but it probably is real. -Young Roy

[edit] Strong Mad

According to the NQSBE {aka 'Sick Day'}, only Strong Mad's voice is heard, he, though, is not. By Count_X

I know. But it would stink in there until he was well again. --The 386 My talk 21:22, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I think he's implying that the cast should be edited because Strong Mad does not appear in person. Although I could be wrong, what you said doesn't really correlate to Count X's comment. 7omεpsilon00:02, 6 Oct 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Hands Shaking

On the page, it's said that Strong Bad's hands stop shaking after picking up the pointy tissue, and stay this way for the rest of the e-mail. However, if you look carefully, his hands are shaking again for the few seconds between Homestar's word problem and the Paper's appearance at the end of the e-mail.--KoopaTroopa211 04:27, 6 Oct 2005 (UTC)

You`re definitely right about that, his hands clearly start shaking again.--Sanyo 04:46, 6 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I think the paper does come down, but sounds distorted as it comes down, which would lead it to being sick as well, but it's just a sheet of paper. --The 386 My talk 19:22, 6 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Wait... that's nothing like the discussion subject.

Strong Bad hasn't done another e-mail for quite some time now. He was severely ill, and maybe he died. I'm having an affair with this. --Template:CedricLessig 4:22, 18 Oct 2005

[edit] Fact?

I found something that should be a remark, but I'm not quite sure how I would word it, or if anyone would think it wasn't good enough or something. OK, you know how The Paper is crumbled, right? Well, the words on it/him are straight, no folding with the Paper's folds. You know what I mean? SaltyTalk! 05:07, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

This has been brought up before, and kind of unofficially turned down. I mean, that's picayune nitpicking. — It's dot com 23:22, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] We need to have links/comments...

After the DVD part, about Martha Stewart and that medicine he mentioned.--Robert Benedicio 05:41, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

You're right. I transcribed this commentary, but I haven't been busying myself too much with the Fun Facts yet. I'll probably get to it later. But if you want it soon, you could do it yourself. Heimstern Läufer 05:45, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I did so, and now I feel more...useful and less...a drain upon modern society.--Robert Benedicio 06:19, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] When the paper goes back up

It sounds like a scream. Like "waaaa!" Is it just me? I made the changes bu it got reverted

No, it doesn't sound like a scream. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 06:30, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

ok, . Nicko9y 02:21, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Used How Many Times?

I'm just wondering if there deserves to be a remark on how many times those tissues have already been used. (as Strong Bad's wording is slightly ambiguous) "Already Re-Reused Ones" by my count it is three times. (Used is once, reused is two, re-reused is three and the "already" is inconsequential, since "used" and "already used" mean the same thing) It's a little bland for a remark, but I thought I'd propose it.

[edit] Another goof?

I've watched it a few times in a row now, and towards the end of the toon, just before Strong Bad says "the paper", does the bottom left (his bottom left) hand corner of his mouth extand past the edge of his head? I'm seeing it, but I just want to know if anyone else thinks so too before I would add it. Klarsh 00:17, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Very, VERY belated response, but I noticed it too. --President Cold One 15:33, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Lappy Ripple Glitch

I don't know if this is already under goofs/glitches, I couldn't find it, but When the video is over, clicking anywhere on the flash window other than the lappy's screen makes a ripple. Am I the only one getting this? Jorb Is A Four Letters Word 02:43, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I did find the note about it on the page, but it doesn't say that the screen doesn't ripple when you click it. Jorb Is A Four Letters Word 02:45, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Darkwing Duck Reference?

To me, Strong Sad's sick form reminded me of the episode of Darkwing Duck called "Getting Antsy", where the villain (plus everyone else in the end) get a head cold where their face is green with spots. Should this count as a reference? --ZootyCutie 14:21, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Sounds like a very large stretch, so probably not. Coincidence at best. – The Chort 14:22, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Delay of Bedtime Story?

Since repeating reverts on the Acknowledged Update Delays (not linked to because I think I spelled it wrong) won't help anything, I decided to put this on the talk page. So, Isn't it possible that Bedtime Story was released a few weeks after Geddup Noise becuase Matt was sick? SBE-mail Checker Dan 02:49, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

That chronology doesn't work. After Sick Day came Teen Girl Squad Issue 10 and Strong Bad Is a Bad Guy, then bedtime story, all one week apart. So there was no delay at all; just the usual one-week apart updates. Heimstern Läufer 06:36, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Illnesses?

Does anyone know if any of Strong Bad's, Strong Sad's, Strong Mad's, Homestar's, and the Cheat's symptoms link to an actual disease? They seem all made up and different, but a few of their symptoms are similar:

  • Strong Bad and the Cheat both had nausea and/or puking
  • Strong Mad and Homestar had "smelling problems"

Can anyone help me out? doctorwho295 22 March 2010

Flu/Stomach flu would be my guess... but as it's all speculation, there's really no need to discuss it here. — Defender1031*Talk 12:27, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
