[edit] Separate page

I was wondering if this should really be a separate page from the mention on The Brothers Chaps' Side Projects. The reason for the creation of that page was this discussion, in which the participating users felt that side projects that are not linked in any way to Homestar Runner shouldn't have separate pages (a notable exception is Mellow Mushroom, which is being kept for special reasons).

I feel that The Great World of Sound falls neatly into this category — it's an interesting side project that we want to know about, so we mention it on Side Projects and give links for people to find out more. But we're the Homestar Runner Wiki, so we don't devote pages to things that aren't Homestar Runner-related.

Just my thoughts, with which I by no means intend to discourage the good work that went into this page. Trey56 11:50, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Go and delete Mellow Mushroom, it has no more right to exist then this one...but oh wait! It's a featured article! Intense Keep.--~ SlipStream 04:55, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
To add to that, I don't know why nobody is contributing, but I spent hours writing what we have on this page, and I'm not letting it go down without a fight.--~ SlipStream 04:56, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, here's what I see as the difference between this article and Mellow Mushroom: the Mellow Mushroom article frequently refers to style similarities between MM and H*R. By contrast, this article seems to have little relationship to Homestar Runner. Thus, as it is, I don't really think we need it on the wiki. Heimstern Läufer 05:58, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Right. Analysis of Mellow Mushroom gives insight into how the Homestar Runner site got started, and there are some very interesting parallels. On the other hand, the closest thing Great World of Sound has to H*R (besides the fact that it was made by the same people) is that its website is similar to ThoraxCorp's. This seems like a rather tenuous link to me. — It's dot com 06:09, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Look on the forum, Craig Zobel himself posted there to try to encourage people to view the film, by making this page we are helping Craig, and by extention TBC by increasing awareness about the film, and really, who is it hurting to have this page, we have pages on people who were in the credits of Strong Bad email.exe for goodness sake, I was just expanding some of them out of stubs yesterday, they were applied to be deleted and even though they had little relevence to Homestar, they were kept, this has as much relevence in that the creators of our beloved web cartoon made this site as well, to help promote their friends movie, and we can assist them in doing that, this creates more awareness about the site and hence the movie. Please, ask yourself, this isn't spam, and it isn't hurting anybody or anything in staying here, it is however helping the ones we appreciate most, and I'm sure if they had accounts here, they would encourage us to keep this page. Like so often I think I am fighting a loosing battle here, but please reconsider, it's a good page.--~ SlipStream 06:26, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
I agree heartily with your inclination to support the side projects that The Brothers Chaps work on — that's the very reason for the existence of the Side Projects page. The trouble is, we have to draw the line somewhere. I don't think very many people would fight for creating a separate page about "Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse", for example, even though Matt directed the music video — it has no other relevance to Homestar Runner. Also, by your arguments above, we should have a page not only about the Great World of Sound website, but also about the movie itself, since TBC produced it and Missy also worked on it. As time progresses, TBC will be involved in more and more side projects, and it's simply not our purpose to document them all in detail. If we make a page about every single project simply because we want to support them, we'll end up with many, many pages about side projects that are completely unrelated to Homestar Runner, and that's just not within the scope of this wiki.
This page could be turned into a redirect to the paragraph on Side Projects, which would still direct people to links and more information about the project if they search our wiki for it. I think that this would still do nearly as much to support TBC and their collaborators without deviating from our purpose. Trey56 06:42, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
P.S. Please keep in mind that the discussion on this page has nothing to do with the fact that you created the page, Slipstream :)
But simply directing a music video is not like creating an entire website for the sake of helping a friend with his movie, and I wouldn't mind a paragraph on the movie in this article, but that isn't a TBC project is it? This is a TBC project and deserves a page, one small collection of sentences doesn't do this site justice, it is quite large, including three entire videos, not to mention a made up history and other stuff, simply directing some short music video doesn't compare, and evidently, some sort of line needs to be created, but said line would have to be very restrictive indeed to cut out a large project like this, and a simple redirect doesn't do this justice, look at my contribs, I have made around thirty redirects, a few seconds of effort cutting out an hour? And yes, if TBC choose to become more involved with other projects, then we should document them just the same, as loyal fans should, as wonderful as Homestar Runner is, if we didn't care about the creators, then why does Craig Zobel even have an article anyway, it's not like he is involved in the production of toons, but he is a good friend of TBC's and makes appearences at conventions they go to, and things like these, mammoth projects, are also a part of TBC's creative projects, for small things I wouldn't agree with an article, but lets not lie to ourselves, this site must have taken a long time, and is a large project, not to mention TBC made cameos in The Great World of Sound anyway.I'm not suggesting we become carried away and start putting on tiny voice acting roles Matt had once, but this is a very large, viable project. And to Trey56, I'm sorry for becoming sentimental about this page.--~ SlipStream 06:57, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Keep the first time i saw it, i nearly added a tbd tag to mellow mushroom until i noticed that it's featured, then i read the talk page, and it made a lot of sense, and the reasons stated there apply here also. — Defender1031*Talk 01:31, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Except that they don't, at least as far as I can see. The essential reason behind keeping MM is that there are many relations between it and H*R. Here, there's really only one, the relation to Thoraxcorp. Heimstern Läufer 02:57, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm not quite sure yet, but for now I vote delete. Religious Corn   22:14, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Redirect to Side Projects. This is not related by any stretch to H*R, it is notable on Side Projects, and frankly the line needs to be drawn. Personally, I'd draw it to exclide Mellow Mushroom at this point, but there seems consensus to keep that based on the article's comparison of it to H*R. So be it. This, sorry, but it isn't within our scope. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 23:01, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

The consensus in the above discussion has been settled in the same position for about a month now, so I removed the discussion tags and turned the article into a redirect to The Brothers Chaps' Side Projects. Trey56 02:37, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
