:According to a recent episode of Food Detectives, tryptophan does not cause drowsiness when combined with other food proteins.  It only causes drowsiness when it is the majority protein consumed in a meal (i.e., the only thing you eat is turkey).  Instead, it is in fact the high consumption of carbohydrates that causes the drowsiness.  I have changed the wording of this fun fact to reflect this.

**Notice the VCR on top of the TV.  My guess is that they have an older TV that doesn't work with a remote, but use the VCR to view TV channels.  This not only allows them to use a remote, but would also allow for recording TV shows.  If this is the case, then the TV would stay on Channel 3.

Ding! Toikey TV is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

[edit] I don't claim the transcript

wait, nevermind, I DON'T claim the transcript. someone do it. anyone. just... some parts of it are unintelligable at best for me due to how tired I am. Yadaman 08:28, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ...Manchester?

Okay, I know I'm tired, but... That's one syllable, and sounds more like 'Rich' to me than 'Manchester.' WTF, dorian? Yadaman 09:12, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

I think it's actually Reg. "Reg has the ball at the top of the twenty..." You know, like, "Reg had the ball at the top of the key" in autobiography and anything. See also Top of the Key. —BazookaJoe 09:19, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I had no idea what it was. I heard "man", so I just put "Manchester" as the first name I thought of. I figured someone would fix it. --DorianGray 09:35, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
You got the transcript done in 45 minutes. That's something to be proud of. —BazookaJoe 09:37, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
It is a pretty nice transcription, isn't it? --DorianGray 09:40, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Reg has the ball

An inside reference read: "Reg has the ball" may be a reference to the Emails autobiography and anything, both of which featured the line "Reg had the ball at the top of the key". This was removed, but I thought it was plausible. May need a re-word, and then maybe a running gag page of its own. Opinions? OptimisticFool 15:28, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure three is the agreed upon number of sightings for something to be a running gag. "Reg" fits the bill poifectly. I move for creationg Flashfight
I was actually gonna create it earlier, but i couldn't think of a good title and then i had to run out... Definitely... i put the fact back on the page. — Defender1031*Talk 17:44, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I don't know what we should call the running gag page. We have two uses of "had" and one use of "has" .. so .. Reg Had the Ball ? *shrug* Anyway, the project is all yours if you want it, as far as I'm concerned. OptimisticFool 18:07, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Reg Having the Ball? — Defender1031*Talk 18:12, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Make sure it meshes properly with Top of the Key. —BazookaJoe 18:44, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Ugh. Reg having the ball and the top of the key are NOT two different concepts. For the love of butterscotch, merge 'em. A slight variation is okay, you know. It's the same gag anyway, even if one word is different. Geez. --DorianGray 20:28, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Nope, there have been other "top of the key" references than just reg, and this reg instance is at the twenty, not the top of the key... two separate gags. — Defender1031*Talk 20:30, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 'Mad Men' Parody?

The scene w/ Blue Lazer ("Nice gams!"). judging by the style of BL's office and his treatment of his secretary, is it possible that scene is a parody/reference of the AMC sereies 'Mad Men?'

TTATOT. User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 16:20, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
People are just absolutely in love with that term, aren't they? And... am I the only one the repeated misusage of it is starting to... I dunno, annoy? It's only actually "TTATOT" if something can be specifically linked to, as the term implies, "this", "that", and "this other thing". Too much these days is being immediately shot down as "TTATOT" -- often, as this reply is, without even explaining *how* -- when there's no "that" or "the other thing" *ever* implied. While I usually don't agree with such facts myself, the term that usually should be used is "That's a Stretch/Coincidence". Or "Common Phrase/Happening". Not "This, That, and the Other Thing". End rant. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 23:51, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
This happened to me on alternate universe when I tried to explain the whole concept of the ending. Awexome 18:29, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] who are we to judge

The "Bubs Friday" $chedule is missing apostrophes at the end of "SHOVIN" and before "N'". It should read "SHOVIN' 'N' TRAMPLIN'". Is there really a definitive answer to the question of the appropriate way to abbreviate slang words? Hardly seems like a goof, maybe bubs wrote it that way intentionally -Jdhannan 20:24, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Omitted letters are represented by apostrophes. In this case, those are the "g" from "shoving", the "a" and "d" from "and", and the "g" from "trampling". EYanyo 02:24, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Bubs is hardly trying to write "proper slang" if such a thing is possible. This can't be a goof. We may as well say that coach z's mispronunciation of words is a goof because he didn't pronounce the words correctly -Jdhannan 15:53, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] STUFF?

I have noticed many edits which remove fun facts. Isn't this an instance where the STUFF process of the wiki should be used instead?--Dwedit 23:43, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

No, STUFF is only used as a last resort, where no consensus can be reached by regular edits or talk page. If we STUFFed for every fact, do you realize what a mess that would be? — Defender1031*Talk 23:52, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] KOT and Marzipan segements

Could they be referencing ads where turkeys would ask people to eat ham instead? Awexome 01:21, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

No. — Defender1031*Talk 01:29, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Why would Marzipan suggest replacing meat with a different meat? The whole point of her segment is that it's meatless. ¡ɯooz + 15:34, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Short Shorts?

I think this is kind of like the Summer Short Shorts and Decemberween Short Shorts, were it was kind of just random things about the holiday. Do you think this should be added somewhere in the article?

This is more like various characters doing things on TV, like Holiday specials, commercials, and cooking shows. Homestar-Winner (talk) 13:30, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A Slew of References

Should we mention all the things this references...and if so how? Bubsonathon, A Folky Tale, Marzipan's A&C type show (from lady fan), Let us give Tanks. I mean this entire short is more or less a potpurri of inside references, and I don't think having a million-sided inside reference section is the right thing to do.Flashfight

[edit] Strong bad

Hey, you know how strong bad seemed as though his mouth seemed to smile all the time in Jibblies 2? well i dont know if it's just because he's tired but his mouth isn't the same.

no, it doesn't look different much.if it was sore though, it would have healed by now. i mean it's around a month later. and sign you're name

User:Imdaman

My name's not sign, and don't call me name.

[edit] John Wayne?

When Gunhaver says "Well, pilgrims," it sounds a lot like John Wayne's catchphrase. --71.70.216.231 03:54, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tryptophan

What does tryptophan have to do with falling asleep on the couch watching football? Lots of people (including my mother) fall asleep on the couch watching TV, and the tryptophan in turkey doesn't really make you sleepy. --Trogga 04:51, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, the tryptophan thing is an urban myth. You get sleepy from overeating, not from tryptophan. My question - should we correct the fun fact, or just remove it entirely? They never mention trpytophan in the toon, so there doesn't seem to be any reason to mention it, and "getting sleepy after Thanksgiving dinner is due to overeating" just doesn't strike me as a valid FF... Nightsong81 08:17, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm all for getting rid of it. Not only did they not mention tryptophan, they didn't even mention having eaten Turkey. (Yeah, it's called Toikey TV, but does that mean The Brothers Strong ate toikey? .. I mean .. turkey? A lot of people eat NOT fried turkey, you know! Maybe they're a "NOT Fried Turkey Family".) =] OptimisticFool 18:36, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Internet Slang?

From the page: "The $avings $chedule uses internet slang." - Is that even true? I mean, has internet slang officially abducted the pretty commonplace practice of replacing S with $? ☮y P … "Biscuitheads!" … 05:33, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

I thought $=S originated with Uncle Scrooge. ¡ɯooz + 15:34, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
I've seen a lot of places use $ instead of S for announcing a sale. I think this line needs to be reworded to something about how stores make that substitution in their signs to emphasize money and the saving thereof. EASports 02:28, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, go ahead and remove it. I have seen $ used in place of S even before the internet. Awexome 22:20, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Football

Football on Thanksgiving is a tradition dating back to the twenties. Awexome 19:18, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

...yes. And...? -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 23:44, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Not everyone would know of it? Awexome 01:11, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fried Turkey

Is the KoT's announcement about frying turkeys a reference to PSAs that appear around Thanksgiving reminding people to cook their turkeys properly?--Zuxtron 23:24, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

TTATOT, nice job pointing it out though. I thought of that too, but I knew it was TTATOT. User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 23:33, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
What could "that other thing" be? Bad Bad Guy 14:16, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Zuxtron. Awexome 18:25, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I thought it was a reference to the danger of starting a fire when frying a turkey. Apparently it's a pretty dangerous practice - [1]. But it could be a little of both. Don't think it's TTATOT at all. Nightsong81 20:05, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Nightsong. I just saw it on the Today Show that you should never pour water on an oil fire. Awexome 22:19, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] faux turducken

the turducken bit is very reminiscent of the red v blue thanksgiving psa.

Definitely TTATOT. There's already a reference to turducken itself, and it makes sense for Marzipan to be making a faux one. No reason to assume that it's a reference to Red vs Blue. Nightsong81 20:02, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
I've never heard of such a PSA. Awexome 19:21, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What Casserole?

I could swear it was 'turkey pot casserole' as a combination of pot pie and casserole..

The Fs are very distinct, even in Strong Mad's voice, and casseroles made with marshmallows are very common for Thanksgiving. --DorianGray 06:39, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Coffee Commandos

Being a giant coffee fiend, I noticed the similarity between Starbucks holiday cup design and the design of the coffee cup that the Blue Laser Minion gave to his commander. Anyone else? TaranchulaVamp15

[edit] Cheat Commandos

I noticed a few oddities of the Cheat Commandos.

1. It looks all grainy. 2. It looks like the back wall is a filmstrip.

Awexome 23:06, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Top of the Twenty?

When the announcer says that on the football game, is that not an inside reference to "Top of the Tee?" I recall someone saying that before--probably Coach Z. --Podo

Top of the key actually — Defender1031*Talk 17:46, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Still, saying "Top of the Twenty" doesn't make much sense in football. --Podo (00:52, Nov 26 EST)
H*R doesn't need to make sense. It's playing on the running gag of "top of the key" and the 20 yard line. --DorianGray 05:55, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
DorianGray... that was my point. It should be under inside references. --Podo (Post edit: Didn't realize "Reg has the ball" was the same thing)

[edit] Snoopy Reference

The turky's cry in the Saddy Dumpington part is uncanny in its similarity to Snoopy's cry in the Peanuts animated specials.

It's also virtually identical to the squirrel's cry in A Folky Tale. --DorianGray 20:51, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] hemp

wouldn't those pants make marzi sick?

Well, any of that would make me sick... But hemp is actually used as a highly nutritious food. See the Wikipedia article. --DorianGray 05:45, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Coach Z's pants

The hemp pants were seen in the email Rock Opera. Coach Z was wearing them. However they didn't have the duck. But they still look exactly the same

[edit] Changing Channels "goof"

Currently, "When Strong Bad turns to a different channel (and gets the King of Town's PSA), the TV still says it's on channel 3." is listed as a goof. In my opinion, it is blatantly obvious that this is not a goof. To begin with, the TV appears way too old to work with a remote, let alone a modern looking one like the one SB uses. Secondly, the TV signal is passed through the VCR in any case, as it would otherwise not be able to record. The most likely explanation would be that the remote controls the VCR, making this a non-goof. It should be unceremoniously deleted. Loafing 23:16, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

I still think it's noteworthy, but definitely not a goof. I actually meant to move it to remarks but got sidetracked by... something... i don't remember what. I say it's a remark. — Defender1031*Talk 23:17, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
    • Notice the VCR on top of the TV. My guess is that they have an older TV that doesn't work with a remote, but use the VCR to view TV channels. This not only allows them to use a remote, but would also allow for recording TV shows. If this is the case, then the TV would stay on Channel 3.

Is it possible that, with the fact that Strong Bad uses a remote for a dial TV, that Strong Bad might use a Cable Box(or the like)? This might be a reasonable argument for the TV's dial staying at 3.
