:It's been so long since I've seen that show, that I don't even remember that that would work. I think I was seven or eight when it was taken off Nick-at-Nite. The dumb and crappy Fox version doesn't count. I refuse to let it do so. The only things about it that I can remember were that one of his shoes was a telephone, and that the bad guys were called "Chaos". 20:08, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

For the record... I don't think they'd end the whole site. If this is "the end", it's probably just the last SBEMail. After which, they'd start something new. But that said, it's all just speculation on my part. The ending song "Save the last e-mail for Strong Bad" kinda hinted at that, though... But, yeah, as DumDe said, it also doesn't really fit that the Paper came down at the end. Why e-mail Strong Bad if there're gonna be no more SBEMail toons? Like I said, I'm probably jumping the gun. There's no need for panic right now. - 02:24, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

::::I really don't care if people are jumping the gun. Users freak out all too easily on this website. I prefer to egg them on. Anyway, I seriously doubt it will happen (any of the stuff these guys have suggested), but when I first saw this email, this friend of mine who was watching the email with me, immediately after the paper came down, announced with no doubt in his voice, "This is the last email." --VolatileChemical 05:11, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

::::::Like I said, don't take my initial post too seriously. It's just a feeling I happened to have after seeing the ending song, and I wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way. I'm hardly "panicking". I'd be upset if that was it for the SBEMails, but I trust that even if it was, TBC would make something just as good to replace it. I doubt they'd just ditch the site altogether. How many people, after all, have the dream life they do? To be able to make good money doing something they've always loved, and from the comfort of their own homes, no less. To give it all up and get "outside" jobs would be impractical, especially when you consider that Missy is pregnant, and she'd need Mike more than ever. After all, being your own boss and able to make your own hours would be a great thing when raising kids. But... now I'm just rambling. (And no, I wasn't mocking TBC at all; Quite the contrary, actually. I really do respect them. I think they've got a great thing going for themselves, and I too would love to be able to make a living -- and make people as happy as they do -- simply doing something I love that comes completely natural to me.) Point is, even if this *is*, in fact, the last SBEMail, it's doubtful it's the end of good ol' H*R. - 08:19, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

:::::::This isn't the first time people have started panicing and worrying and claiming that the good times are over. Remember 50 emails, comic, flashback, rock opera and portrait? It seems everytime they turn out a great landmark email like this one (or even take a long break), people think that they'll never make an email quite like that again. As long as people still send in emails, they'll continue to churn out toons and sbemails until the site becomes unprofitable. All we have to do now is just calm down, wait till next week and not jump out the window crying our heads off. They'll be back. 16:23, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

:That's pretty clearly a coincidence. VOIP! is a good onomotapoeia for the sound effect that accompanies Strong Bad's appearance/disappearance, while VoIP is an acronym for an emerging technology that lets people talk over the Internet. *Teen Girl Squad - Presumably, the comic variations are represented by Strong Badman. Also, as with PBTC, it does not exist in an alternate reality; Strong Bad made them himself. What's more, they technically are drawings.

*The Marshmallow's Last Stand version - Again, it's an alternate reality machine, not a time machine. It's one of the earliest forms of the Strong Bad as we know him today.

I understand all of those reasons except PBTC. Seriously, why does it have to be made be Strong Bad? It's an alternate version! He even features on the Everybody Everybody poster. :::Maybe they wanted to keep the repetition to a minimum? Sterrance and Da Huuuuuudge is the only instance where they've got 2 from the same email... including the extra variations from animal, highschool, video games, etc... would only make it repetitive and cluttered (how many jokes can you make with Secret Collect Strong Bad?) Tbird's reason for PbTC still stands &ndash; every alternate variation in the email was made by Strong Bad in one of the emails, PbTC was not. Which leaves his depictions in TGS, etc, which are actually supposed to be Strong Bad himself, not an alternate universe version. 01:46, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

::::::Hm. The only problem with the revised PBTC Strong Bad explanation is that... couldn't the same logic apply to Keyboard Strong Bad? Granted, we never see him *watching* Sweet Cuppin Cakes, but the fact that Eh! Steve and the Wheelchair have appeared in Teen Girl Squad (though I don't know if Homestar Runner Pay Plus would be considered canon) means that they too were just "created" by Strong Bad, and not based solely on his imagination, per se. :Dangeresque was *sorta* there. Strong Bad wears his Dangeresque sunglasses in the scene where "Tiny-Handed Strong Bad" is "digging to China with his ears". I'm fairly certain that was an intentional Dangeresque reference. - 04:18, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

What about the Teen Girl Squad variations? None of those ones are here either. I guess as with the PBTC versions, they don't exist in an alternate reality; Strong Bad made them himself, so they basically count as drawings. However, here's what I think should have happen if they did include a TGS scene: Strong Bad sees his TGS form making out with the hot version of The Ugly One, as seen in Issue 10. He then proceeds to make out with her himself, only to disappear suddenly. Strong Bad himself makes the disappearing noise. I think that's how it would happen if Strong Bad mets his TGS form. MHarrington 19:27, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

It's not like Strong Bad would actually visit every single alternate universe, you know. He probably only ended up in a few, and um... the rest were offscreen durring the song and had no solos. yah.

Characters that shouldn't have been there
*Old-Timey Strong Bad - Exists in the past, not an alternate realty. Explained in the 100th email, with him mailing half a mustache to SB.

What? Are you talking about? I mean...what are you talking about? OTSB should definitely be there. Umm, when talking about alternate universes in Homestar Runner, you just can't leave out Old-Timey. It's just...wrong. Even if he "shouldn't be there because he was in the past and not a new dimension", Old-Timey Strong Bad just HAD to be in an email talking about alternate universes. : I don't think there's any rhyme or reason behind the Strong Bads they chose. I think they just picked the variations they found most interesting or liked most. BTW, while I can kinda see an argument against Cardgage and Old-Timey, I don't see why Keyboard Strong Bad would be an exception any more than, say, Stinkoman or Sterrance, people that FCUSA's Strong Bad also blatently invented. --[Jay, not logged in] 19:46, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

The word "sequicentennial" means 150 years. The "ennial" is related to the word "annual". Because sequicenten-email is a play on words, it works in this case. However, if he were to have called it his sequcentennial email, it would be incorrect, as he would have had to have started in 1856 and answered one annually in order to celebrate his sequicentennial. Perhaps "1936" could also have been "1856".

Usually, to get the effect of the Coach Z Easter egg, the actors will record the lines, reverse them, imitate the reversal and reverse it back &ndash; so the phonemes are in the correct order, but the sounds fade in at the start instead of fading out at the end. The one problem with using the &auml; is that a search for "doppelganger" will not turn up this version. Also, searching for "doppelgänger" (intentionally using the character) finds only the character usage, not the entity. The search here is incapable of allowing a, ä, and &amp;auml; to all be found equally. The same is certainly true with other characters. Perhaps there's a fix? 04:19, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
 +
:An excellent point. Er, two points. Unless the admins can tell us there's some option to make the Search account for this, the fix is to settle for doppelganger with no umlauts, which is an acceptable English spelling in American Heritage and Webster's, and to do the same with other words when possible. Of course, there are some accented characters that should be kept, such as the distinction between Se&ntilde;or Havin' A Little Trouble and Senor Cardgage, or entries on the Foreign Words page. But in general, we should probably just gloss over non-English characters as long as it doesn't make us look stupid. ::I dunno. My dictionary (The American Heritage) as well as a brief search of online dictionaries shows the umlauted version as standard and the plain version as a variant. This is gonna sound super nerdy, but I think it's clear that when Strong Bad disparages the "geniuses behind She-Hulk," he's not talking about comic legends Stan Lee or John Buscema, her original creators. (For instance, sometimes, She-Hulk would face the viewpoint and shout, "Byrne!") :Doesn't look like a wince too much to me. And he's not off-key, nor all that out of tune. In fact, I reverted a comment in the transcript itself saying Stinkoman was singing out of tune. He's really no farther off pitch than Strong Bad ever is.

*"Number 1 jam" is a phrase previously used in time capsule.

*Old-Timey Strong Bad previously used the word "Doppelg&auml;nger" to refer to Strong Bad in flashback.

 +
Are we going to mention every time someone repeats something from the past?
 +
 +
*Stinkoman's lyric "I hope it's from a girrrrrrrl!" is probably a reference to Strong Bad's desire for female emailers, as mentioned in the email rap of dragon.

Ok, maybe I have too much They Might Be Giants on the brain, but I found a pretty much TMBG refrence. I know you guys said the thing about the backwards speaking refrence, and how it's a refrence to something else. I forget the song, but they "fake" sing backwards... it's pretty weird, and it's what I thought of when Homestar was talking like that. You can search it on TMBW, it'll say... Sorry, I'm probably annoying you guys. =) --MrsCommanderson 01:06, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

:::No fact except Twin Peaks, you mean, to which it is most definitely a reference. For the record, TMBG used backwards lyrics twice: Hide Away Folk Family, which was faked and sounded like nonsense whichever way you played it, and Subliminal, which just played the entire last chorus backwards at the end of the song. As for the guy who does sing backwards, I don't know his name, but I remember he first appeared on America's Funniest Home Videos something like ten years ago.  +

HR.com cartoons make no pretense at continuity.  A character can appear in Strong Bad's imagination, then in the past, then in the "real world".  Making great efforts to explain what devices would be needed to make sense of the (lack of) continuities (time machines versus alternate reality machines) is stupid.  I suppose you monkeys would also like to have a debate about what kind of magnetic levitation machines Marzipan and Homestar use to move things around, and the special sensors Strong Bad has in his boxing gloves to be able to type, and whether or Homsar is a zombie since he was killed in his first appearance, and how many angels can dance on the point of a needle.  come on.  It's a cartoon.  Just enjoy it, accept it.  66.188.99.244 02:33, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

:Perhaps not, but the fact that both this and 2 emails mention putting a Game Boy in a blender and using it to travel through time, or into alternate realities... it is obviously a reference, even if it's not an attempt at continuity, and we would be foolish not to mention it as a H*R encyclopaedia. 05:28, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

:It reads fine. - 13:20, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
 +
 +
Well, here's a question. There's a portion of the transcript that waffles between
 +
 +
STRONG BAD: {leaning backwards} Ohbee Kaybee! {jumps off the stool and towards the swirl} Jump!
 +
 +
and
 +
 +
STRONG BAD: {leaning backwards} Ohbee Kaybee!
 +
 +
{He jumps off the stool and towards the swirl.}
 +
 +
STRONG BAD: Jump!
 +
 +
I understood the rule to be that if it's only a few words, leave the action inline, but if it's a lot, split it. This seems to be a split situation, but is it? And what really IS the rule?? 00:15, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
 +
 +
:I think this case should be a single line because Strong Bad says "Jump!" almost immediately after "Ohbee Kaybee!"  His jumping off the stool happens at almost exactly the same time - just a little after, but close enough that we might even be able to get away with:
 +
 +
STRONG BAD: {leaning backwards} Ohbee Kaybee!  Jump!
 +
 +
{Strong Bad jumps off the stool and towards the swirl.  Then something happens.  You know the rest.}
 +
 +

::To quote the standards:
 +
<blockquote>If a character does something while speaking a line of dialogue, or if more description is needed for their manner of speaking or inflection (e.g. if they're singing or whispering) the action (if it is not too long to describe in a few words) can be enclosed in curly braces — { } — and made italic, like this: {goes to the refrigerator}. Note that the curly braces themselves are also italic. Short actions like these do not need to be proper sentences.</blockquote>
 +
::So if you're going to stick actions within dialogue, it needs to be...
 +
* A few words long.
 +
* Not a complete sentence.
 +
* Relating to the speaking character.
 +
::In this case, I think the action is a little too long for my tastes. :S I'm fine with both the 'Jump'-being-a-single-line version and KieferSkunk's solution. - 02:41, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
 +
:::Although I've zealously hunted down situations that need bumping onto new lines, I also agree with anonny's point that we should avoid breaking up the flow as much as possible. I'd like the rule of thumb "If you have to use a full sentence to describe the action, it should get a new line. But if you can describe it in a sentence fragment, do!" &mdash;AbdiViklas 22:34, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Dry T-Shirt Contest
Maybe when Strong Bad refers to the 'Dig To China With Your Ears Contest' as "the second or third to worst contest I ever heard of", one of the worse contests is the Dry T-Shirt Contest, as featured in bottom 10. Since this is in Strong Bad's Bottom Ten of everything, you could reason that it would be worse than the other proposed contests. Aether 11:03, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

:See Contests. There's a lot of other bad contests out there that Strong Bad could have been referring to, but we kept it to the Ten-Step Footrace from flashback and the Strongest Man in the World Contest from the Original Book, as those two contests also took place in the storybook universe and were likely the ones he was referring to. 11:27, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Another of those little things where something in a cartoon reminds me of something, but it wouldn't be a good Fun Fact: On my most recent viewing, the way Homestar clears his throat and resumes talking normally after his backward-talking reminded me of the moment in The Princess Bride where the albino talks in a stereotypical scary hiss for the beginning of the line (in this subject heading), then clears his throat and continues in an anticlimactic normal voice. &mdash;AbdiViklas 22:02, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

There's one flaw in that fact: Look in the background while Strong Bad is talking to Strong Sad, or pretty much any time it's zoomed out. == Puppet Soup ==
 +
 +
When I saw the scene of Strong Bad mirroring the motions of his Puppet Stuff counterpart, I immediately was reminded of the classic mirror scene from the Marx Brothers' movie Duck Soup. In said scene, Chico and Harpo noisily shatter a pane of mirrored glass during an espionage mission, and must stand in the empty space and silently mimic Groucho's motions when he comes to investigate. Am I alone in thinking that might be a reference? - 23:23, 29 March 2007
 +
:Two similar characters moving in unison doesn't necessarily make for a reference to anything, even though they're "mirror images" of each other.  In the scene you're talking about (as well as a similar happening between Harpo and Lucielle Ball on a classic 1955 episode of I Love Lucy), specifically involved creating an illusion of a mirror where there was none, and at least one character being (temporarily) fooled into thinking that a mirror was there.  I really don't think that the puppet segment bears any significant similarity to the Duck Soup scene. - Ugliness Man 05:29, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Eva Cassidy reference?
 +
 +
Upon watching back the intro for this email, when Strong Bad sings a sentimental song to Strong Sad playing the acoustic guitar, I'm almost sure that the pair were dealing with it in the style of the late Eva Cassidy. The "flipping rainbows" line tends to refer to her work covering "Over the Rainbow", and the general rhythmic pattern of the jingle (especially in the second half) made me think of the rhythms of the melody for her interpretation of "Fields of Gold".

Flipping off rainbows
 +
 +
OK, I'm going to start this myself. I can't see how Strong Bad is possibly not referring to the giving the finger when he talks about flipping off rainbows in his email intro. It's completely in his character to do so. One user said Strong Bad would only do so if given a reason; I couldn't disagree more. What possible justification could SB have had for flipping off the sender of the bird, or for that matter any of the other times he's given the double deuce? It's entirely consistent with his character to do so for any and every reason.
 +
 +
As a side note, facts like this that have been on the page for a long time shouldn't be unceremoniously removed without a hearing as happened here. 01:54, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
 +
:I second this. What else could he mean by that, anyway?

::Some think it means like, doing backflips off of rainbows. (Though to me, that only would sound right if he said he was "flipping off of rainbows".) 02:13, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

:::But shouldn't it mean like backflipping of rainbows since he also said he was walking on clouds.-- 03:06, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

::::I always thought it was the backflip kind of flipping ever since the first time I ever saw it. I never put the double deuce type of flipping to it until someone else suggested it many months and years later. (I also concur with Record307. Backflip-type flipping goes much better with walking than double deuce-type flipping.) But, due to the similarity, there's no real way to tell either way. --DorianGray 05:57, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
 +
:::::I think that your are both right. Strong Bad plays on the double meaning of "flipping off". If any other character said it, I'd agree that it was meant to be actual flipping. But there is no way Strong Bad would have used the phrase without knowing it can mean something else - Something more vulgar. 06:19, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
 +
::::::That's pretty much my reasoning. Or, to take it from an out-of-universe perspective: Even if TBC originally meant it to mean backflips, I cannot believe Matt could have sung it without realizing and being conscious of the other meaning. Incidentally, it may be that Strong Bad was doing both actions, possibly at the same time. (Possible fanart: Strong Bad giving the double deuce to a rainbow whilst doing a backflip off of it?) 06:25, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Recently, there was an edit about the "Liquify button", referring to Photoshop, but it was dismissed as referring to the blender button. I think, however, this is a dual reference worthy of being put in the explanations. The background is going through "Liquify", as in the photoshop function, but the cause of it is a blender, also capable of "liquifying". Not one to start edit wars, I believe we should discuss this.--Jellote wuz here 01:20, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Ding! alternate universe is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

It's been so long since I've seen that show, that I don't even remember that that would work. I think I was seven or eight when it was taken off Nick-at-Nite. [edit] The Last SBEMail?

Perhaps I'm jumping the gun, but given the song at the end, and the length and "recurring characters" show... anyone else think that the one who suggested a while back that SBEMail #150 might be the last of them is correct? I hope not, but if it *is*, it's quite a sendoff. I particularly liked this one. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 10:18, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

And Dangeresque 3 still hasn't come out yet either. ...How many times have TBC kept promises they made in earlier toons? Peasant's Quest is one, Strong Sad not being invited to the second Halloween toon is another. Tom H

I haven't watched this yet, and now I'm sad and excited. I do hope this isn't a final SBEmail, or the end of H*R, because if it was or if there is before I get out of High School (which is about 5 more years), I'll cry my eyes out. Or at least make a petition. OFF TO THE SB EMAIL! {dun dun duhhh!} --MrsCommanderson 23:57, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

I think that they couldn't end SBemails because most of the store items are based on SBemails. They enad it and they'll lose much, much money.--s6k 01:49, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

-YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 02:24, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

I really don't care if people are jumping the gun.
To me, "save the last email for Strong Bad" does not mean that this is the last email; it means that the last should be reserved for Strong Bad to answer... just because he's so awesome. —BazookaJoe 05:16, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Like I said, don't take my initial post too seriously. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 08:19, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
This isn't the first time people have started panicing and worrying and claiming that the good times are over. – The Chort 16:23, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Sorry if that post of mine (back in the main page archive) scared you, YK. Even if it's the last Sbemail, I know TBC can come up with something awesome to replace it. Here's to hoping for a 151 and beyond. -Walking Armless

Oh, it's not like that. I was just wondering if you could've possibly been correct on that notion, given the content of this SBEMail. But, hum. I suppose my post here was a pretty premature jump to conclusions, yeah. Sorry everyone. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 22:53, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

This is not the last SBEmail. I admit I also got pretty worried, but thinking rationally, TBC would tell us. They wouldn't leave us hanging. - frldgf v2.13

The song leads me to believe that the last e-mails will be answered by someone other than Strong Bad, and he wants to be able to answer the very last of the last, at least. Just kidding. -Zyborg

Ya know, homestar has actually answered an e-mail in a way, and so has the cheat. -Guest

Well, turns out I was wrong. Excellent. =P -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 19:48, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] voip

why this went away?
voip csours 13:39, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Anybody know whether or not VoIP is or should be considered for a running gag? I know it has also appeared in TGS (#1, I think), but I can't think of anything else. GillanTheVillain 15:23, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

That's pretty clearly a coincidence. VOIP! is a good onomotapoeia for the sound effect that accompanies Strong Bad's appearance/disappearance, while VoIP is an acronym for an emerging technology that lets people talk over the Internet. The two are really not related, and nothing else in the cartoon suggests that they should be. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 00:13, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Da Huuuuudge

This is the first time we hear da huuuudge talk or speak. Okay with that, yeah? Homfrog 11:47, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

There ought to be something for da huuuudge speaking, i mean its lower-class opera...i think. ArchiveMaker

[edit] What it is, my Doge?

Is it worth mentioning that Doge was the title of the rulers of Venice or Genoa? Silly Dan 12:39, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Probably not. The word was previously used in Biz Cas Fri 1 and was removed from that toon's page as a fact. Has Matt? (talk) 12:42, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Total Load

I wonder what the "TOTAL LOAD" is (one of the ingredients of Homestar's "real fruit smoothie"). Is it whey protein, or some similar nutritional supplement? At least, that's what the container looks like to me. Trey56 14:03, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

I think it's Mayonaise, for some unknown reason.. --Coach J 14:40, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Mayonnaise? No, given the context and its appearance, I think it is clearly meant to represent a tub of weight-gain protein powder such as you would find at GNC or a high-priced gym. I'm intrigued by the "Total Load" label, though. As far as I can tell, this is not an actual brand name—I'd be surprised if it were. But the phrase sounds familiar, like it was an insult somebody used... somewhere... sometime... --TheNicestGuy 15:25, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps you were thinking of Jeffery Parsons' work on sediment delivered to the mouth of a river. ;) Trey56 15:38, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Nah, I was probably thinking of the combined impedances of speaker drivers wired in series. Or more likely, I was thinking of one of the death messages from Space Quest III: "Thanks, you've been a real pantload." --TheNicestGuy 16:24, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Or maybe "Man, Strong Sad, that's a real load right there. A real load!"... --phlip TC 16:26, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Given HSR's love of all things crapesque, perhaps "Total Load" has an assumed [of crap.] notreallyauser 11:19, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Made-Up Strong Bad Animals

Anybody find it strange they would use TWO of the Made-Up Strong Bad Animals (Sterrence and Da Huuuuuudge), yet have no mention of the Monstrosity, Deep Sea Fangly Fish, The Red Steckled Elbermung, etc. I guess they really liked Da Huuuuuudge or something. Thunderbird 16:22, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Well, how can you not like Da Huuuuuudge? --DorianGray
The El Pardack and Red Steckled Elbermung were just pictures, so I don't think they had much of a chance. As for the others... I guess we didn't need too many variations from a single email. A single zoo scene with them all would've been great, though. - Joshua 18:11, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
My guess is that they rejected the Fangly Fish because it's a Powered by The Cheat thing (and it's a fish, which would need to live underwater). As for El Pardack and the Elbermung: Yep, both pictures. Never got anywhere. And the Monstrosity was Strong Bad himself with alterations, rather than a different incarnation of Strong Bad, so it probably didn't count. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 00:17, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
I do think that it is weird to use 2 made up animals, but Sterence and Da Huuuuuudge didn't appear at the same time at all. Sbdisciples 20:29, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Coach Z's Voice

Did anyone else think Coach Z's voice was off in this cartoon? -Ben Mo

Not really; I think he's just supposed to sound really freaked out/panicked in that scene... it's pretty similar to how he sounded when he thought he "killed" Strong Sad in Folky Tales. - Image:TinySaturn2.GIF Saturn 16:48, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Music

"The music in the Strong Badman comic is from action figure."

Wasn't it also reused in suntan, and should this be noted? The Lyrical Wondermind 16:38, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Yes, it was. And it was also reused in army, as well. MHarrington 19:57, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Maybe I'm misremembering (as it's been a looong time since I've played them), but isn't it the music from Doom or Quake or one of those old FPS's? I was just listening to this SBEmail (not watching), and it sure sounded like it.--H-ko 06:33, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Senor Cardgage Fishing Easter Egg-- Connection?

The odd "echo" sound effect heard in the fishing easter egg is also used in the first episode of the mockumentary TV series "Fishing with John", by actor/musician John Lurie.

I'm assuming that this is a stock sound effect, and simply a coincidence. To my knowledge, the similarities end with the sound itself and "fishing". But as a fan of both homestarrunner.com and Fishing with John, it made me laugh.

Fishing with John seems like the kind of indie/cult television show that could be referenced by HSR, though.

Anyone else think of this? - C

Well, the same sound effect was used in the "Fishing with Coach Z" segment in lures & jigs, I'd say it was probably intentional (check out the commentary transcript for that email). - Image:TinySaturn2.GIF Saturn

Haha! That's so awesome. I haven't viewed lures & jigs since before I got my hands on Fishing with John. - C

The scene also seems similar to the fisherman from Peasant's Quest. - C
This particular sound is coming from a Casio SK-1, using the built-in "human voice" instrument. [1] The SK-1 was often used in early toons, and in most Halloween toons, for the organ or ghostly sounds. The Cheat was seen playing on a modified SK-1 in a few toons, and the actual keyboard appeared in a puppet movie.

[edit] No Little Strong Bad

Not only is their no PBTC Strong Bad, but there isn't any Little Strong Bad, from flashback and highschool

Atari Strong Bad is missing as well, as are any self portraits of him in Teen Girl Squad. Four of the made up animals are vacant also. - Joshua 18:12, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
And plus, there's no Strongbadiophage. Trelawney

[edit] List of missing Variations

  • PBTC - Does not exist in an alternate reality, Strong Bad has watched the toons of himself before.
  • Little Strong Bad and Baby Strong Bad - It was an alternate reality machine, not a time machine.
  • Made-Up Strong Bad Animals - Just Sterrence would have made more sense, but I guess they liked Da Huuuudge enough to represent him too.
  • Atari Strong Bad - All video games represented by Vector.
  • Self Portraits, Drawings, Etc - They aren't supposed to be alive or anything, just a portrait.
  • Strongbadiophage - Yeah, he could have been there. But also represented by Teenage Strong Bad.
  • Teen Girl Squad - Presumably, the comic variations are represented by Strong Badman. Also, as with PBTC, it does not exist in an alternate reality; Strong Bad made them himself. What's more, they technically are drawings.
  • The Marshmallow's Last Stand version - Again, it's an alternate reality machine, not a time machine. It's one of the earliest forms of the Strong Bad as we know him today.

Seems like there's plausible reasons for missing variations by my viewpoint. Thunderbird 19:03, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

I understand all of those reasons except PBTC. Seriously, why does it have to be made be Strong Bad? It's an alternate version! He even features on the Everybody Everybody poster. It seemed like you just wanted to find some sort of reason and "It was made by The Cheat" was the only thing you could come up with.--DumDe 20:58, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

The second and last point above - they did include Teenage Strong Bad, so that argument is moot. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 21:05, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Also, PBTC's idea is disproved by the fact that they included Old-Timey Strong Bad. An obvious choice, yes, but Strong Bad still didn't create him. - Joshua 21:56, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Maybe they wanted to keep the repetition to a minimum? Sterrance and Da Huuuuuudge is the only instance where they've got 2 from the same email... including the extra variations from animal, highschool, video games, etc... would only make it repetitive and cluttered (how many jokes can you make with Secret Collect Strong Bad?) Tbird's reason for PbTC still stands – every alternate variation in the email was made by Strong Bad in one of the emails, PbTC was not. Which leaves his depictions in TGS, etc, which are actually supposed to be Strong Bad himself, not an alternate universe version. --phlip TC 01:46, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Not so - Old-Timey Strong Bad predates the SBEmails and Puppet Strong Bad made his debut long before his email debut (Real-Live E-Mails). --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 05:06, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, my PBTC reasoning was explained crappily. I fixed it. Here's also a whole new can of worms... Thunderbird 07:35, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Hm. Eh, that was pretty badly worded, but I hope it makes *some* sense. =P -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 08:27, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
You said that it's an alternate reality machine, not a time machine. Well, how do you explain The Strong Bad?

Hey, maybe Strongbadiophage was there, but just too small to be seen. ;) - Joshua 20:35, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

If Strongbadiophage was there, Strong Bad would probably have shrunk down to his size to meet him. MHarrington 19:27, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Say, one character that wasn't mentioned... Senor Muybueno. Ok, so that's not a big deal...but, heh, it's a character we missed. Or does it count as a "self-portrait"? -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 22:52, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, it would have cool if they did a pop-up world. Though it might end up being too much like the Strong Badman comic. Has Matt? (talk) 22:55, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Also there was no Catlefunnies Strong Bad or Dangeresque. But Dangeresque I can understand. SaltyTalk! 18:04, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Dangeresque was *sorta* there. Strong Bad wears his Dangeresque sunglasses in the scene where "Tiny-Handed Strong Bad" is "digging to China with his ears". I'm fairly certain that was an intentional Dangeresque reference. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 04:18, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

He probably only ended up in a few, and um... the rest were offscreen durring the song and had no solos. yah.

[edit] Characters that shouldn't have been there

  • Old-Timey Strong Bad - Exists in the past, not an alternate realty. Explained in the 100th email, with him mailing half a mustache to SB.
  • Senor Cardgage - Seen around FCUSA often. Unless that was supposed to be creepy comb over Strong Bad.
From Senor Mortgage's toon description: Wait. Is Senor Cardgage real?! Elcool (talk)(contribs) 09:04, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
  • Keyboard Strong Bad - watched, and admited created by Strong Bad in Decemberween in July.

So in conclusion, the whole thing doesn't make much sense, and we shouldn't read into it too much. Thunderbird 18:49, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

What? Are you talking about? I mean...what are you talking about? OTSB should definitely be there. The interdimensional portal was invented in the exact same was as Homestar's time machine, which means that the portal would no doubt function as a time machine as well to some extent. VolatileChemical 00:05, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

It would make less sense for him NOT to be used. Get what I'm saying?--DumDe 19:24, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

I don't think there's any rhyme or reason behind the Strong Bads they chose.

[edit] USA For Africa

The concept of them all singing together seems to be similar to USA for Africa, where they got together pop music superstars and had them sing together to raise money to help the poor in Africa. Their most notable song was "We Are the World".

Yeah I agree. I think the reference was pretty obvious and I was surprised to not find it in the Real-World Refrences section already.
I've reverted edits to extend this to Live Aid and other later ones. Really, this is the original, and it's also a US effort (many oyher were British) and this is a US cartoon. So let's not keep adding other events making this TTATOT. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 16:50, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Not to kick a dead discussion, but Band Aid was definitely before USA for Africa. I'm not lobbying for it's inclusion since I think the America argument is too strong, I'm just trying to give Sir Bob his comeuppance. Flashfight

[edit] Universe Creator

You know, most of the universes Strong Bad visited were fantasies that he was supposed to have made up. (animal, highschool, etc) Does Strong Bad create an alternate universe every time he thinks up some new characters or time periods? The mystery continues! >.> - Joshua 18:38, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps each of us creates an alternate universe when we imagine. Pretty deep, eh? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 18:44, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Or perhaps we all exist in an alternate reality created by the imagination of somebody else. Perhaps even a "Strong Bad" somewhere. Pretty deep...er, eh? (It had to be said) Thunderbird 18:51, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Or maybe it's all fate... we can only imagine things that already exist in alternate realities, and although we think we're making stuff up ourselves, we're actually just getting insight on something that's perfectly real. >.> Pretty de....ouch. Hit rock bottom. - Joshua 19:45, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps all the things we experience as "real" are just shadows on the wall of a cave that we watch as we sit chained to a chair with our backs to the opening of the cave into the Real World. Trey56 19:57, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Dang, this is like the dream discussion from the SBEMail150!?!?! page. We all ought to be philosophers or something. Anyway, maybe our "reality" is only the dream of one small child in the REAL reality, and her world is only the dream of another small child, therefore expanding out into infinate dreams and worlds and realities and...I need to get some sleep. -Brightstar Shiner 22:52, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Compdude, thanks for ruining a perfectly good philosophical discussion... I was really interested in what they were saying... Yadaman 01:25, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Prepare yourselves for the philosophizing of a fourteen year old Israeli kid! According to the M-theory, there are an infinite number of alternate universes in which anything that anyone can dream of is possible. Therefore, in relation to Joshua's hypothesis, it can be deduced that everything we imagine really does exist in an alternate universe. From the Chronicles of Narnia to Homestar Runner to the entire Greek religion. Pretty deep, eh? --Homsar Lover
Smoke another doobie, won't you? Yes, all realities can co-exist, but as far as being notable on the wiki, I think we need to rein it in a bit. See St. Elsewhere for all you need to know on this. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 01:14, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Uh, I've seen St Elsewhere, Qermaq. My parents have the DVDs and I've read the wikipedia article, and the ending was a little disappointing, though interesting. As for the "Smoke another doobie" comment, well... that's just insulting. --Homsar Lover

[edit] Oba Kaybe

Is it worth mentioning that Bill Cosby also used this phrase on an episode of The Cosby Show? Most people would be more likely to have heard it on the show than on Himself.

Actually, I thought it was a catchphrase of one of the Fat Albert characters, wasn't it? Which I think would make it older than Himself. (There's an unusual concept...) But what I'm more concerned about is the inconsistency between the phrase in the Transcript and the phrase in the Fun Fact. I'm not in a position to do any careful listening right now. When I am, I'm going to take a closer look at this thing from several angles. --TheNicestGuy 19:30, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
It's how Mushmouth would say "okay". I've added this to the Fun Fact, but it could use some editing. — Bill 20:00, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
When he said it on Himself, it was in a dentist routine. The dentist aske the patient (who's been complaining that thanks to the novocaine, his bottom lip is on the floor) to spit. I'll start from the line right before the one we're talking about. DENTIST: Give it a try. PATIENT: Gib bit a trby? Oba kaybe! — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 22:36, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
I thought it was a common expression, like okey-dokey or kawinky-dink. And it's pronouinced oh-bee kay-bee. SaltyTalk! 02:54, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

It is a fairly common expression these days, but I'm reasonably sure it started with Mushmouth even if most people don't realize it. Since SB's pronunciation is clearly "ohbee kaybee", I've discarded the reference to Himself. (If memory serves, ACupOfCoffee's report of the pronunciation in that routine is accurate, but it has been a long time since I've heard it.) --TheNicestGuy 03:19, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Missing Limbs

I think the ears and nose thing with Strong Bad is another instance of Missing Limbs (ex. Homestar, Marzipan, KoT, etc.) but not just 'limbs'. Coach Z not having a mouth would go along with this too.. Missing facial parts? --AndrewNeo 19:52, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Missing Anatomy. But everyone knows they aren't really missing. We see Homestar et al. manipulate objects and we hear Coach Z speak all the time. Maybe this should all be re-filed under something like Invisible Body Parts or Invisible Anatomy. Or, if you like really bad puns, perhaps Grey-Area Anatomy. — Bill 20:03, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Invisible Anatomy and the like would work, except that some people (like me) speculate that armless characters don't have invisible arms but rather telekenitic powers. :/ - Joshua 21:51, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Twin Peaks

Probably not worth a Fun Fact, but this is the third reference to Twin Peaks they've done so far- the previous ones were in 3 Times Halloween Funjob and Strong Sad's Lament.Trelawney

Dale Cooper spilling coffee on himself -- is that verified? I've been rewatching the series recently, and while I haven't made it thru the whole thing yet, I think I've found the scene in question, and there's no coffee involved. I think the coffee is just from Strong Sad's storyboard, which didn't have any direct Twin Peaks references that I noticed. 71.197.114.207 06:52, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sequicentennial

The word "sequicentennial" means 150 years. The "ennial" is related to the word "annual". Because sequicenten-email is a play on words, it works in this case. However, if he were to have called it his sequcentennial email, it would be incorrect, as he would have had to have started in 1856 and answered one annually in order to celebrate his sequicentennial. Perhaps "1936" could also have been "1856".

They've usually referred to their milestones as years though – a 50th birthday candle in 50 emails and in flashback Homestar says "Happy 100th birthday"... Hmm, running gag perhaps? --phlip TC 02:20, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
But he replaced the "ennial" with"email", changing it from 150-years to 150-emails. SaltyTalk! 02:57, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
No no no. That's not right at all. Strong Bad replaced the "ial" with "email," not the "ennial". I think that grammatically he should have just made it "sesquicentemail," which would actually make "150th email". I think that saying "sesquicentenn-email" makes it "150-year email," which would be wrong. I can't believe no one saw this talk post error in two years. I also understand that sesquicentenn-email sounds more like a word than sesquicentemail does. Kevin G. Dannerson 18:31, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] No probalo, Bobalo

Okay, Strong Sad's "No prob, Bob": 12 Monkeys reference or TTATOT? Is anyone familiar with this usage outside of that movie? Which, incidentally, is a lot of fun. Go watch it.AbdiViklas 23:18, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Nevamind. I just answered my own question with a look through the edit history (Bob The Builder). —AbdiViklas 23:42, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Wait a minute, it has by now been revealed in STUFF that this isn't used in Bob the Builder. So how 'bout it—12 Monkeys or common phrase? Let's take a poll:
  • I've heard this more than once in conversation.
  1. ISlayedTheKerrek (Waldo from Family Matters used to say it, and I use it quite often.)
  2. This is an extremely common phrase. I have never specifically heard it in connection with any TV show or movie, but I and my family use it all the times. — It's dot com 18:39, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
  • No, I've only heard it in connection with or quotation of the movie.

[edit] "Myrtlebeth"

I know it kinda matches up with "Elizagerth," but every time I watched the easter egg I thought Senor Cardgage said "Myrtle bass (like the fish)." --IT'S A LION! 23:21, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

No, it's definatly Myrtlebeth here... --phlip TC 02:43, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Running time?

Hmm. I ran the e-mail in Winamp and it came out with a totally different running time than what's listed. Is it possible that my Flash Player is inaccurate somehow or something? Anybody care to clarify or help? I don't see why it would be inaccurate, but I'll keep checkin' about. (Note that it says 8:10 because of Easter Eggs, which I assume aren't counted in running times.) Evan

Awesome. I have Audacity as well, thanks to my brother. Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)
The thing ends at frame 4242. At 12fps, that's 353.5 seconds, or 5:53. It seems WinAmp is only counting 10fps, instead of the correct 12 (424 seconds is 7:04). --phlip TC 02:10, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Recorded Backwards?

Usually, to get the effect of the Coach Z Easter egg, the actors will record the lines, reverse them, imitate the reversal and reverse it back – so the phonemes are in the correct order, but the sounds fade in at the start instead of fading out at the end. However I'm not convinced they've done this in this email.

I'm pretty sure they've just faked it – the reversed clip clearly sounds to me like it has more of a backwards sound to it, with the fading in at the beginning and such. What do you people think? --phlip TC 02:33, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

As I recall, The Simpsons also faked the effect for the second "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" episode. "Chief Wiggum. Don't eat eat the clues!" I got the impression that by faking the reversed speech, TBC were inspired by/referencing The Simpsons more than Twin Peaks.--Bobo the King 02:37, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
It's not necessarily a Simpson reference. But it is clear the backwards version shows they faked the backward speech - though I wish it were otherwise! Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:53, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
definitely faked. it is impossible, completely impossible to make the 't' sounds that homestar makes using reversed speech. csours 05:05, 5 April 2006 (UTC)????
I've managed a pretty good 't' sound myself, with lots of practice. But if you get to that point you've lost the effect completely, and you need to use an earlier take. Not that that's relevant to the point, or anything.71.197.114.207 07:11, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Baboon or Buffoon?

Buffoon makes more sense in context, but I can see an argument for baboon as well. How do we feel about this? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:04, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Baboon, definitely. You can hear the 'baa' sound, as opposed to pronouncing it buh-boon. Trelawney
I think present day strong bad said Aah! Squshy grey tomaots instead of shades of greay tomatoes. alex H.

[edit] Aäa!

The one problem with using the ä is that a search for "doppelganger" will not turn up this version. Also, searching for "doppelgänger" (intentionally using the character) finds only the character usage, not the entity. The search here is incapable of allowing a, ä, and &auml; to all be found equally. The same is certainly true with other characters. Perhaps there's a fix? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 04:19, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

An excellent point. Er, two points. Unless the admins can tell us there's some option to make the Search account for this, the fix is to settle for doppelganger with no umlauts, which is an acceptable English spelling in American Heritage and Webster's, and to do the same with other words when possible. Of course, there are some accented characters that should be kept, such as the distinction between Señor Havin' A Little Trouble and Senor Cardgage, or entries on the Foreign Words page. But in general, we should probably just gloss over non-English characters as long as it doesn't make us look stupid. Can I get an amen, and then the doppelgangers can be respelled? --TheNicestGuy 17:26, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
I dunno. My dictionary (The American Heritage) as well as a brief search of online dictionaries shows the umlauted version as standard and the plain version as a variant. I'd hate to sacrifice accuracy for such a marginal return, especially knowing that MediaWiki's search "feature" is woefully lacking. On the other hand, a Google search for the umlauted version also shows the plain version. — It's dot com 17:52, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I think I will block anyone who tries to get rid of the umlauts. (Just kidding.) But seriously, it would look terrible not to write it with an umlaut. I admit, I'm biased on the matter, seeing that "Heimstern Laufer" has rather negative connotations for me, but still... Heimstern Läufer 17:57, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] She Hulks She-Hulks by the Sea Shore

This is gonna sound super nerdy, but I think it's clear that when Strong Bad disparages the "geniuses behind She-Hulk," he's not talking about comic legends Stan Lee or John Buscema, her original creators. The more hit-or-miss John Byrne was the, uh, genius behind "The Sensational She-Hulk," the series that brought in all of the trademark fourth wall breaks and panel-walks. (For instance, sometimes, She-Hulk would face the viewpoint and shout, "Byrne!") The previous She-Hulk series, "Savage She-Hulk," and the modern She-Hulk series, simply "She-Hulk," eschew such tomfoolery. More on She-Hulk can be found here 67.100.125.201 06:19, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Please do not ever worry about sounding super nerdy. Remember, we're making an encyclopedia about dumb animal characters. You've given us some very good information here, and I'm sure we will be able to use it. -- Tom 06:31, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Not a tan

In Goofs: "In his comic, Strong Badman has a visible tan, but when he appears in the Computer Room and at the end, he has the same skin color as Strong Bad." That wasn't a tan, that's a style artists use to show detail through shadows. --Not a User

[edit] Say hello to my li'l friend

Does anyone else think that the tacklebox line in the Senor Cardgage egg is a reference to the Scarface line: "Say hello to my li'l friend"? It seems like you were supposed to think that, but what you expected didn't happen. Anyone else agree? --Not a User

[edit] Singing Off Keeeeeeyyy!!!

I want to add a note that Old-Timey Strong Bad is wincing when Stinkoman is singing because he is singing off-key, but I'm not sure how to word it. Can anyone help? — Bassbone (TALK Strong Mad Has a Posse CONT) 08:17, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Doesn't look like a wince too much to me. And he's not off-key, nor all that out of tune. In fact, I reverted a comment in the transcript itself saying Stinkoman was singing out of tune. He's really no farther off pitch than Strong Bad ever is.
Perhaps what people are thinking is this - the notes Stinkoman sings are:
C D E F D A
I hope it's from a girl
And that last A is over a dominanttype harmony. Now, that's actually pretty common in this anthem-style rock, but I can see how the listener would expect a nice clean G there. Stil, not out of tune in TBC standards by a long shot, and OTSB's little lean and turn becoming a wince is a stretch to me. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 14:37, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
It certainly made me wince. It's at least a quarter-step sharp. It's a lot more out of toon than Strong Bad usually is.
Well, it's less obvious with Strong Bad because he has a very low voice, he kinda grumbles. Still, even if we objectively think it's out of tune (and certainly it's not "off-key", if it's a quarter tone) we still have to decide if it's relevant to the transcript. I say nah. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 04:06, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
I assumed OTSB was wincing because Stinkoman was singing very loudly, and right in OTSB's ear (if you can call it that).Trelawney 18:31, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Although I think he is a little bit out of tune, I don't think Old-timey winces because of that. He is singing pretty loud. - frldgf v2.13

[edit] What's the tune?

I can almost place the tune that Casio VX-bad is playing in the final song, but not quite. Anyone want to clue me in? And if you know, is it worth a mention on the page?

It's already mentioned where it should be. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 18:27, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
It's exactly the start of the demo song from the Casio VL-tone.
I had a Concertmate-350. Was clearly that demo tune. Don't know if it has an offical name.

[edit] Can somebody explain this... better?

The entry: This email introduces a new 'ridiculously huge when it's closed' frame to Stinkoman's mouth animation. isn't very clear. It seems to me it's talking about the actual flash frames. But really, that's all I can tell. It's not something I distinctly remember from the email, nor do I get a clear picture of what it's talking about without having to go back and play the email again. --Stux 18:28, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

I think it's talking about how he has a new smile added to his mouth movements. --DorianGray
It's an improvement on the way the sentiment was first worded, "This is the first time we've seen Stinkoman smile." After I reverted that, thinking of the many times he laughs, I realized the writer meant "smile whith his mouth closed." —AbdiViklas 22:21, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fun Fact Cleanup

I removed a bunch of fun facts for various reasons:

  • Strong Bad mentioned real fruit smoothies earlier in mascot.

So what? It's not like that's really at all relevant.

...among other places. And it's a standard cartoony sound effect.

Likely coincidence. Not particularly noteworthy.

  • "Number 1 jam" is a phrase previously used in time capsule.

And it's been used more times since then.

  • Old-Timey Strong Bad previously used the word "Doppelgänger" to refer to Strong Bad in flashback.

Are we going to mention every time someone repeats something from the past?

  • Stinkoman's lyric "I hope it's from a girrrrrrrl!" is probably a reference to Strong Bad's desire for female emailers, as mentioned in the email rap of dragon.

No kidding.

Just a heads up. If anyone disagrees, just go ahead and re-add the stuff I removed. That's the beauty of a wiki, after all. =P -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 22:48, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Speaking of Fun Facts, should it be meantioned somewhere (if not) That Homestar was trying to make a health/muscle-gain smoothie? Some people may not get that. I mean, if they don't, they'll be wondering why Homestar wants a green smoothie with all this weird atuff, and blah blah blah, yada yada yada, I think I should go get some pants. Bluebry 23:00, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
I agree with most of those except the last one; I think that one is notable enough to point out, so I re-added it :) Danny Lilithborne 00:42, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
If you ask me, of the fun facts I removed, that's among the most obvious and mundane. Of course that's what it's referring to, but is it *really* necessary to note the obvious, that Strong Bad much prefers e-mails from females? -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 01:04, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
...yes. As these are the only two times (to my knowledge) that it is actually said that female emailers are preferred. - Joshua 16:38, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
But it's clearly in the nature of the character to desire the lady types. That's what makes this un-notable. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 17:31, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
"And if I email you, girl! Woman! Oh, would you email me, girl? Woman?" -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 20:26, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Also of note: brianrietta and sisters. And, of course, current status, marzipan, dreamail... And those're just off the top of my head. Different context, but all display Strong Bad's desire for female companionship. So, yes, it's a reference, but to a character's personality trait, not one specific e-mail. It's natural for his character that he'd prefer to get e-mails from women. It's almost like making a comment stating "Strong Bad called Strong Sad "dumpus" because he doesn't like him." -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 21:10, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Not to mention in his character video, SB wants all the ladies to form a line to one side for make-out sessions. Then you've got 2 emails, where no ladies showed up! (Backwards!) Oh! And then there was the time in privileges where he went "EEEEE-MAIL ME GIRL! Once times! Twice times!" ... basically, it's just part of his character. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 23:24, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Which is why we have pages like Strong Bad's Ladies. --DorianGray

[edit] They Might Be Giants reference?

Ok, maybe I have too much They Might Be Giants on the brain, but I found a pretty much TMBG refrence. I know you guys said the thing about the backwards speaking refrence, and how it's a refrence to something else. I forget the song, but they "fake" sing backwards... it's pretty weird, and it's what I thought of when Homestar was talking like that. You can search it on TMBW, it'll say... Sorry, I'm probably annoying you guys. =) --MrsCommanderson 01:06, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I've heard of a guy that does sing a song backwards. I have no name, though. Bluebry 01:09, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
I Weird Al's video, Amish Paradise, he is shown walking to the camera while barnyard animals walk backwards as well as other people. Al recorded the scene walking backwards and memorized how to lip-sync to the backward lyrics. Given this example, The Simpsons (See above on this page) refernece and They Might Be Giants, the backwards talk became TTATOT, therefor - No fact. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 17:05, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
No fact except Twin Peaks, you mean, to which it is most definitely a reference. They were so impressed that they brought him in to make a video that they aired on the show later. --TheNicestGuy 17:46, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
And then there's "On Earth My Nina," which was written by John Linnell listening to a live recording of "Thunderbird" backward and transcribing what he thought it sounded like. 68.104.201.53 07:09, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] this cartoon has little to no continuity

Perhaps not, but the fact that both this and 2 emails mention putting a Game Boy in a blender and using it to travel through time, or into alternate realities... it is obviously a reference, even if it's not an attempt at continuity, and we would be foolish not to mention it as a H*R encyclopaedia. --phlip TC 05:28, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Modest Mouse reference

I think Old-Timey Strong Bad's show is a refrence to Modest Mouse's EP Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks.--Cow Abductor 02:36, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] transcript

Somebody read through this transcript. You'll find it's really awkward to get through because of the {comments} everywhere. Honestly, nobody cares whether or not Old-Timey Strong Bad turned left or right. It doesn't need to be pixel-perfect. I'd prefer it read well. 86.136.82.105 12:52, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

It reads fine. - Joshua 13:20, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Well, here's a question. There's a portion of the transcript that waffles between

STRONG BAD: {leaning backwards} Ohbee Kaybee! {jumps off the stool and towards the swirl} Jump!

and

STRONG BAD: {leaning backwards} Ohbee Kaybee!

{He jumps off the stool and towards the swirl.}

STRONG BAD: Jump!

I understood the rule to be that if it's only a few words, leave the action inline, but if it's a lot, split it. This seems to be a split situation, but is it? And what really IS the rule?? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 00:15, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

I think this case should be a single line because Strong Bad says "Jump!" almost immediately after "Ohbee Kaybee!" His jumping off the stool happens at almost exactly the same time - just a little after, but close enough that we might even be able to get away with:

STRONG BAD: {leaning backwards} Ohbee Kaybee! Jump!

{Strong Bad jumps off the stool and towards the swirl. Then something happens. You know the rest.}

Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 00:19, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
To quote the standards:
If a character does something while speaking a line of dialogue, or if more description is needed for their manner of speaking or inflection (e.g. if they're singing or whispering) the action (if it is not too long to describe in a few words) can be enclosed in curly braces — { } — and made italic, like this: {goes to the refrigerator}. Note that the curly braces themselves are also italic. Short actions like these do not need to be proper sentences.
So if you're going to stick actions within dialogue, it needs to be...
  • A few words long.
  • Not a complete sentence.
  • Relating to the speaking character.
In this case, I think the action is a little too long for my tastes. :S I'm fine with both the 'Jump'-being-a-single-line version and KieferSkunk's solution. - Joshua 02:41, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
Although I've zealously hunted down situations that need bumping onto new lines, I also agree with anonny's point that we should avoid breaking up the flow as much as possible. I'd like the rule of thumb "If you have to use a full sentence to describe the action, it should get a new line. But if you can describe it in a sentence fragment, do!" —AbdiViklas 22:34, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question

How could you guys know the name of the email before you even found out what it was?

We don't. The email's name is released at the same time as the email, so we find out right away. If you can't see it, you need to refresh your cache. - Joshua 22:39, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
If anybody is interested at all, the name of the e-mail was originally grabbed from rando.xml. - Super Sam 02:38, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
And, since the email menu is generated by reading rando.xml, if you cleared your cache the new email would have been in the list (reading rando.xml directly is simply quicker). --phlip TC 06:31, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

No no. Listen. Alternate Universe wasn't on the sbemail menu at the time, so how could you guys possibly know what is was?

As was said, they hack into rando.xml and read it there. If your cache didn't pick up on the new rando.xml version, it would not appear in the menu. But it was added to rando.xml anyway. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 17:06, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
alternate universe *was* in the sbemail menu at the time. If you didn't see it it's because your computer had it cached, and you just needed to clear your cache and it would be there. --phlip TC 17:23, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Text size

I've removed

When all of the Strong Bads are warping in, the bottom half of the text on the Lappy is bigger and darker than the upper half, which is normal.

from ==Goofs==, because technically it is a Flash artifact – if you zoom in, you'll see that the text is in fact normal. The result has something to do with Flash's anti-aliasing engine... I'm not sure exactly what the cause is, probably something to do with the Moiré effect, but I'm not sure. Anyways, I'm in two minds about this... on one hand it's clearly a Flash artifact, but on the other it's a noticable glitch when you watch the email normally (no viewing the Flash file, no seek bars, nothing)... I also can't think of a way to word it properly to put it in ==Glitches==... any thoughts? --phlip TC 05:35, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Big Nose? No Nose?

Stinkoman called Strong Bad "Big Nose" after a practice test in the Strong Bad Zone. What does Stinkoman mean by "Big Nose"? Does Strong Bad have a nose? If so, what is it? Is it his jewel? Is it his silver plate? 24.151.40.232

As it says on the article – "big nose" is an Asian term for westeners. --phlip TC 15:41, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
From Real-World References:
Stinkoman calls Strong Bad "big nose", a derogatory term used in eastern Asia to describe Westerners, whose noses tend to be genetically larger than Asians'.
Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 15:42, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Isn't Coach Z a Westerner? I think on Coach Z's wiki page, it says that he speaks in a Western accent. Strong Bad's english, isn't he?

24.151.40.232

In this context, "Westerner" refers to people living west of Eastern Asia, that is in the view of the Asians. People of European descent, specifically. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 15:46, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, "Westener" or "Occidental" in the sense of "Western Hemisphere", not "Western America" - usually referring to West Europe, North America (and, strangely, Australia... we seem to break the mould on a lot of these general terms...). As opposed to "Eastener" or "Oriental", usually referring to East Asia. --phlip TC 15:49, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

What I think is it's a reference to Monty Python's Life of Brian, since it's a running gag in the film for characters to call each other big nose. Swimma Dan 22:13, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Actually, that's true!! I was in china for three years, they called our family "big nose" sometimes. So, yeah, stinkoman is calling strong bad big nose should be in the real-world refrences.

Where does the Cheat, the stool and the wormhole disappear to? Like, did the Cheat turn into Sterrance?

Raptor5ix-Image:Raptor5ixsiggy.png 20:38, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

what probaly happend is when homestar came in the room, the cheat left. homestar on the otherhand, he "turned into" sterrance. as for the stool and portal... who knows.

The stool was affected early on presumably by the portal, we don't know why. The Cheat likely left when things started getting weird, and Homestar likely was transported out, not changed to Sterrance. That's my opinion. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 19:42, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
The stool is weird... it appears and disappears at various times. Homestar is transported out, as seen by him transporting in to the Coach Z easter egg, The portal unwinds, the same as it appears - if you look closely it just unspirals after Homestar disappears. --phlip TC 08:56, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Outsiders reference you voted down

I'm sorry, guys, but in the context Strong Bad used the word "tuff" in, that was a reference to The Outsiders. I don't care if 25 people voted against it. I'm gonna use the same logic that all you people who tried to use against me in Change of Pace...just because you don't want something to be a reference doesn't mean it is. (Yeah, and vice versa- big deal.) But this was as obvious a reference as there has been in a while. --ISlayedTheKerrek 05:38, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

But there is overwhelming evidence against you. Think about that, please. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 05:43, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
Well, first off, the reference doesn't make much sense. If he meant "tuff" as in "sharp", why would he come up with "Bulldozer"... last I checked, they aren't very pointy. Secondly, unless "kool" is also used in The Outsiders, it's a bit more of a stretch – why would he intentionally mispell "cool" with no reference to anything, and then intentionally mispell "tough" with a reference to something else? Besides, do a search for "tuff" on Google, you'll find many examples of the word being used to mean "tough" (btw these examples were all on the first page, and all in a row). --phlip TC 06:08, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
Another question: how else could you misspell "tough"? Okay, "tuph" comes to mind, but that's about it. —AbdiViklas 18:45, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
Firstly, I was thinking about the evidence. And regardless, it doesn't change my mind, Qermaq. Kool isn't used in the book, Phlip, but it's the context it was used in that I have my argument with. As far as I'm concerned, the reference was legitimate. That may not hold up with the results of the voting, but it's my opinion and the discussion is closed. --ISlayedTheKerrek 04:57, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Well, then your opinion is respectfully noted. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 04:59, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
{edit conflict} And you have every right to do so. I mean, I've disagreed with a lot of STUFF verdicts. As long as you accept that the result of the vote decides what goes on the page, you can hold whatever opinion you want about references to The Outsiders, Family Guy, what have you. [edit] Go vs. Grow?

In the closing song, on Senor Cardgage's solo, does anyone else hear him say, "Let the little children grow" rather than "go?"

I did hear him say "grow" initially...but I've replayed that line over and over and now I'm sure he's saying "go". -- Frickinsellout 19:05, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
To be honest, I can't make it out at all. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 19:13, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
At first, I heard "roam", but now I hear either "glow"; or "flow". The problem is that none of these possibilites rhyme with "splode". Has Matt? (talk) 20:19, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
Not really a problem (songs don't have to rhyme), but it sure would have made it easier to decipher. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 20:22, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flex it, flex it, shoulder stance...

I noticed the blue panel on the bottom of the Strong Badman comics has a line that says "work it out!". Why does that feel like a reference to lady fan...or at least the part where Homestar is featured in the Buck Webb comic? -- Frickinsellout 19:14, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Doesn't match any dialogue in lady fan. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 19:25, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
I don't think it has to match any dialogue to reference lady fan. The fact that lady fan had a section where Homestar was in a comic panel with a speech bubble regarding exercise is enough to be somewhat of a reference. I don't think it's enough for it to be mentioned on the article's main page, but I definitely believe that's where the unseen panel is derived from. GillanTheVillain 04:41, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Not the realest Strong Bad?

Now, I might be reading too much into the e-mail, but everybody else does, so I'm-a gonna join the party! Anyways, since animated Strong Bad appeared with really true-to-life Strong Bad, are we to believe they're not the same entity? Or maybe Real Bad lives in an alternate universe where everything that ever happened to Flash Bad happened to him. But that's just me supposin' out loud. GillanTheVillain 04:41, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Or maybe that Puppet Strong Bad is a different one than the one in, like, Biz Cas Fri. Who knows? --DorianGray
Of course, if they are both the "real" Strong Bad, it wouldn't be the first time we've seen two of him. Just thought I'd observe that. Heimstern Läufer 04:49, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Wait—I just remembered that what Strong Bad is visiting here is alternate universes. In one of them, he's a puppet—this one! (Now, if you want your 4th wall really turned inside out, he should have visited a universe in which he can watch TBC drawing him. And maybe try his hand at it himself.) —AbdiViklas 19:51, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Oh, there's two of them! (This isn't really contributing much, but I like the quote.) - Super Sam 07:28, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Left Handed

Based on the way Strong Sad hold his guitar, he might be left handed. Swimma Dan 21:56, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Say hello to my little friend. Has Matt? (talk) 21:57, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
The Left Handedness article doesn't discuss the evidence that Strong Sad is right-handed or ambidextrous, which I might take care of later. For now I'll take the opportunity to mention that for an ambidextrous person to choose a left-handed guitar would be pretty weird. They're something of an oddity; even many southpaws opt to learn right-handed technique just because it's more common. So for someone we know can write with his right hand to be seen at one time with a right-handed guitar, then suddenly with a left-handed guitar, is difficult to reconcile. But not impossible, of course. --TheNicestGuy 20:20, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
Strong Sad's article mentions being ambidextrous, as he's also been seen writing with his left hand, and at other times with his right. I think that's as good a place as any for a mention, since it's more a defining trait of his character than something specific to this email. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 20:25, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Old-timey audience

I was just watching this e-mail again, and I noticed in the "vaudeville" scene that while the audience as a whole is a fairly shapeless mass, one distinctive shape rises up from it on the lower left. Is this shape anything significant? (Well, significant enough for a wiki that exists to notice minor details like this...) It looks a bit like Mr. Smallow's hat.

[edit] Dry T-Shirt Contest

Maybe when Strong Bad refers to the 'Dig To China With Your Ears Contest' as "the second or third to worst contest I ever heard of", one of the worse contests is the Dry T-Shirt Contest, as featured in bottom 10. Since this is in Strong Bad's Bottom Ten of everything, you could reason that it would be worse than the other proposed contests. Aether 11:03, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

See Contests. There's a lot of other bad contests out there that Strong Bad could have been referring to, but we kept it to the Ten-Step Footrace from flashback and the Strongest Man in the World Contest from the Original Book, as those two contests also took place in the storybook universe and were likely the ones he was referring to. [edit] Jumpin the shark

I thought that this SBEmail was kind of dumb. Has Homestar jumped the shark? -guest

Gee, if you didn't like this one, I don't know what to say. I might remind you that you got your money's worth. Many fans have already named this one of their favorites. But a call of "jumping the shark" requires some gimmick to have been employed which is beyond the pale, and I don't see evidence of that. Nothing in this one is any more or less odd than any other email, in my opinion. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 09:28, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Pit of Despair! Don't even think--

—AbdiViklas 22:02, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

In the audio commentary on the DVD for that movie, Rob Reiner said that it was inspired a commercial he saw once, where a "native american" was chanting in the steretypical low/raspy voice, then had a cough drop or something and did the same chant in a very bland/white voice. It's a versatile gag, I don't think it should be considered exclusive to TPB. - Ugliness Man 05:36, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deutschman?!?

Has no one yet discovered that upon freezing Strong Bad's fall in the Strong Badman section of the email, and viewing the third pannel he passes, one may discover a shocking vista of The Deutschman, exclaiming "Kinder Uberraschung!!" Thus, I find it very important that The Deutschman be included in the Cast section of this page. Or Deutschman gets his own page or something.

This warrents noting, methinks. Also, the second pannel is a non-exciting "Tadaow!" in a spikey exclamation bubble. Le Boring. —AlexDitto 22:08, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

We're one step ahead of you, Alex. Though we chose to take it in a bit of a different direction. (Check the Trivia section.) --DorianGray

[edit] e-mail or e-mair

I listened to the song several times, and it seems that Old-Timey Strong Bad said e-mair (ending with r).

What do you think: e-mail or e-mair?

Maybe it's his accent or just how he talks? – The Chort 17:19, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Fun Fact

"This email is 5 minutes & 53 seconds long, and, although this may or may not have been noticed, the Lappy 486's batteries should have ran out after the first five minutes."

There's one flaw in that fact: Look in the background while Strong Bad is talking to Strong Sad, or pretty much any time it's zoomed out. The Lappy is Plugged in, and would therefore not be running off the batteries. Therefore, the battery referrence is moot. --President Cold One 05:27, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Puppet Soup

When I saw the scene of Strong Bad mirroring the motions of his Puppet Stuff counterpart, I immediately was reminded of the classic mirror scene from the Marx Brothers' movie Duck Soup. In said scene, Chico and Harpo noisily shatter a pane of mirrored glass during an espionage mission, and must stand in the empty space and silently mimic Groucho's motions when he comes to investigate. Am I alone in thinking that might be a reference? - 23:23, 29 March 2007

Two similar characters moving in unison doesn't necessarily make for a reference to anything, even though they're "mirror images" of each other.

[edit] 2nd or 3rd contest

When Strong Bad mentioned that quote could he have been refering to "The Strongest Man in the World Contest" and "A Jumping Jack Contest"? -guest

He could have, but I recall that addition being reverted in the past since the connection isn't very strong. Strong Bad may have heard of even more stupid contests. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 21:22, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Eva Cassidy reference?

Upon watching back the intro for this email, when Strong Bad sings a sentimental song to Strong Sad playing the acoustic guitar, I'm almost sure that the pair were dealing with it in the style of the late Eva Cassidy. The "flipping rainbows" line tends to refer to her work covering "Over the Rainbow", and the general rhythmic pattern of the jingle (especially in the second half) made me think of the rhythms of the melody for her interpretation of "Fields of Gold".

I don't know if this is me or not, but I thought it was worth bringing up. Rexy 20:43, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Coach Z's Pants

in the easter egg with the eyeball pear, Coach Z says that he's not going to tell Homestar what he did in his pants. Is this a refernce to the fact that he doesn't wear pants?--ONESTOP 22:22, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Coach Z wears pants - he shoved Strong Bad as a $100 bill into his waistbnd. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:26, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
If you're talking about the email shapeshifter, I think that's only gonna happen once and never again. I could be wrong though. Also look at the page for Coach Z and find the picture of his butt. Either he weras really tight pants or he's naked. (Ewww!!!!)--ONESTOP 22:37, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Or his butt is green. At any rate, there's too much confusion over the issue of Coach Z's pants, clearly, to have anything to his presence or lack of pants. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:38, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
He's also pukes his pants. — Defender1031*Talk 22:40, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Real Fruit

Is it worth mentioning in the triva section, or as an addendum to the note in the Inside References section, that avocods are a real fruit, dispite the popular misconception that avocados are a vegetable? TrueTsumetai 03:19, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Because avocados aren't actually referred to as vegetables in the toon, I'd say no. —Guard Duck talk 03:38, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
The point being: despite the peculiarity of the ingredients, it is a real fruit smoothie, a fact which most people wouldn't realize. ~Tsumetai 06:06, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] "Let the little childrens go home"

I recently edited Senor Cardgage's line in the song "Let the little childrens go" to "Let the little childrens go home", which is what I thought it was. It was quickly reverted. I've re-listened to the line several times since then, and he clearly says "Let the little childrens go home". I would edit it back in, but I don't want an edit war. So, what're your opinions? --BubbleRevolution

I don't hear "home." I just hear "go." there's no other syllable besides "go" in that sentence. MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 19:25, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
It's possible he's saying "Go-oh" in two syllables, but I definitely hear a second syllable.
I kind of hear "Grow" actually... — Defender1031*Talk 19:43, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
He might be singing "gome" or, to rhyme with "splode", "goad" (consider the singer), but there's pretty clearly only the one syllable. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 20:07, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
I've always distinctly heard "Let the little childrens know." ~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 23:49, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
I've always heard "roam." But I don't really see what we're getting done, with all our differing opinions. Perhaps we should add an {indecipherable} tag on that part? Strongkinghomsarsmith 02:32, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
I have also always heard "know". And it makes sense if you combine his line with the line that comes immediately after it: "Let the little childrens know, I hope they don't asplode." HaldoHelscome!

[edit] Flipping off rainbows

OK, I'm going to start this myself. I can't see how Strong Bad is possibly not referring to the giving the finger when he talks about flipping off rainbows in his email intro. It's completely in his character to do so. One user said Strong Bad would only do so if given a reason; I couldn't disagree more. What possible justification could SB have had for flipping off the sender of the bird, or for that matter any of the other times he's given the double deuce? It's entirely consistent with his character to do so for any and every reason.

As a side note, facts like this that have been on the page for a long time shouldn't be unceremoniously removed without a hearing as happened here. Heimstern Läufer 01:54, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

I second this. What else could he mean by that, anyway? HaldoHelscome!
Some think it means like, doing backflips off of rainbows. (Though to me, that only would sound right if he said he was "flipping off of rainbows".) Heimstern Läufer 02:13, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
But shouldn't it mean like backflipping of rainbows since he also said he was walking on clouds.--Record307 Talk/Contribs 03:06, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
I always thought it was the backflip kind of flipping ever since the first time I ever saw it.
I think that your are both right. Strong Bad plays on the double meaning of "flipping off". If any other character said it, I'd agree that it was meant to be actual flipping. But there is no way Strong Bad would have used the phrase without knowing it can mean something else - Something more vulgar. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 06:19, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
That's pretty much my reasoning. Or, to take it from an out-of-universe perspective: Even if TBC originally meant it to mean backflips, I cannot believe Matt could have sung it without realizing and being conscious of the other meaning. Incidentally, it may be that Strong Bad was doing both actions, possibly at the same time. (Possible fanart: Strong Bad giving the double deuce to a rainbow whilst doing a backflip off of it?) Heimstern Läufer 06:25, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Speaking of both actions - While watching the toon I thought that maybe, while walking on clouds, he couldn't care less about rainbows, so he gives them the bird to show it. (If any of you need a visualization) Elcool (talk)(contribs) 06:30, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Supporting my last statement, Did any others think he meant back-flipping the first time they watched the toon?--Record307 Talk/Contribs 06:43, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
For the record, I had the exact opposite experience as DorianGray. When I first saw it, I thought, "Heh, Strong Bad gives the finger to rainbows" and never thought of it meaning backflips until someone removed that fact a while ago. Heimstern Läufer 06:48, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
I would echo this last statement by heimi. -132.183.13.68 18:20, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Liquify button

Recently, there was an edit about the "Liquify button", referring to Photoshop, but it was dismissed as referring to the blender button. I think, however, this is a dual reference worthy of being put in the explanations. The background is going through "Liquify", as in the photoshop function, but the cause of it is a blender, also capable of "liquifying". Not one to start edit wars, I believe we should discuss this.--Jellote wuz here 01:20, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I think we should. I'll start off by saying that it could be just references. Every knows that all blenders have a liquify button. But only PhotoShop users and Digital Artists will get the reference. I would say no.--Record307 Talk/Contribs 01:54, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
In addition, that doesn't look enough like the liquefy effect in Photoshop. I would have said that earlier in an edit summary, but Jay beat me to the reversion. The Knights Who Say Ni 02:16, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
