The Thnikkaman has two parts to his costume, his shades and his TH. Coach Z would have to take both off to find out who it is. He was most likely going to take off the shades then the TH. Still, I like this fact. Leave it on. 00:14, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

:Ooh, ooh, I thought of another one. [...] In actuality, Coach Z is the LEAST likely person to be talking about Sports Team. As the Z-man has shown in past misadventures, he (as a sports coach) is not very knowledgeable in the field of his profession. For example, in secret recipes, he failed to identify an item as simple as a basketball, instead referring to it as a (and I quote) "Bounce Thing". It is for this reason that the third reason presented in the fifth comment in this section of this talk page (delivered by Phlip) is faulty, and another point should be added to the consensus to place Homestar's quotation before Coach Z's quotation in the article. As a firm believer in this decision, I will not rest until action is taken. I thank you for your time, and I await your response. --Ppk01 21:52, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

:Here's the current situation as I see it. Judging from the comments, it looks like the following people support leaving things as they are (Coach Z first) - Tom, phlip, Loafing, Jay, E.L. Cool. The following people support switching the order (Homestar first): 69.168.161.140, Qermaq, Ppk01, 72.229.110.222, 69.86.179.137, BazookaJoe. If I've misstated anyone's opinion, please let me know and accept my apologies. If I am correct in discerning everyone's opinion, that makes 5 votes to leave things as they are versus 6 votes for the change. Close, I admit, but unless anyone else wishes to chime in, let's go with the 6 to 5 winners and switch the order of the easter eggs. --72.229.110.222 04:21, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

::As I see it, at this stage, we're still trying to reach a consensus instead of having an actual vote. Also, three of those in favour of switching the order do not seem to care enough about it to actually become registered users (yes, this means you! you should register, I know you want it! ;-) And if I may add, I'm surprised that this topic has sparked such a long debate. For my part, I believe that Coach Z should come first, but I don't care if it's listed the other way around. 04:39, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

:::While I respect your point about being an anonymous user, I see it the other way around. I've been thrilled with the content here, and never before felt strongly enough about the way material was being presented to make a suggestion of this nature. The number of anonymous users involved attests to the fact that people who are normally passive have become interested in this particular issue. That to me strengthens the argument for the change. --72.229.110.222 05:04, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

:::::I take your point seriously that my continued contributions may warrant registration and more vigorous participation in the future. I will certainly keep that in mind. This thread was started by someone looking for change. Ppk01 and I have also been quite passionate in our remarks, while both you and Jay express willingness to consider going the other way on this. Since it is an either/or situation, compromise is not possible. We have to make a decision on this that will be respected and not reversed. I fear changing it again for this reason. I would be more comfortable if, after due consideration, we agree to switch the order, either you or Jay would make the change. If anyone has anything more to say on this, please do! --72.229.110.222 05:42, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

:::::::This is why only registered users are allowed to vote on STUFF. For everyone represented by an IP number here: Don't be insulted, but it's really easy to switch them and vote as multiple IP's. Your comments were wonderful, but I just don't see you as part of the HRWiki community and threfor I don't think your votes count. If you wish, register a user (a prosess that takes 10 seconds) and place your vote. 08:17, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

::::::::Thanks for contributing to this. I've been thinking about this some more, and, of course, I have some more thoughts. I had a look over at STUFF, and I think you are totally right to have that voting process restricted to registered users. In that place, you are contending with subjective minutiae that could only be decided on with a voting process. Here, however, we are dealing with an artistic choice, like an editor. We have to decide which order tells the better story, and make an editorial decision. Something like that should be open to a larger perspective, especially when you consider that this entire thread was started by an anonny who felt strongly enough about it to bring it up. My reason for not registering is simple: you don't need me here. I visit this wiki every day; it is one of my favorite sites. You guys are doing a fantastic job, and my voice added to the chorus won't accomplish much. I'm just a blushing fan, watching from afar. If this gets to be a habit, perhaps I should register, but this is the only time I've felt compelled to throw out an opinion, and I can't imagine many circumstances where I would be likely to do this again. I think that Homestar first is the stronger artistic choice, and I implore everyone here to consider it. That said, I understand why there are opinions to the contrary and I realize that I am hopelessly biased because I am arguing for the easter eggs to be ordered in the way that I first encountered them. Since that's how I saw it first, it's what makes sense to me. For that reason, I can't possibly be objective. Oh well. It really was great kicking these ideas around, but I will let you guys do what you will regarding this. I can't think of anything else productive to say, so I'll just say... best wishes, and thanks. --72.229.110.222 00:56, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

::::::::::Woooooowww. For an unregistered user, you seem pretty into this. I was just a blushing fan for approximately 5 months and visited the wiki every day too, just like you. When I registered, I felt more into the community and contributed more. It was rewarding and still is. If you want, you should join. That being said, the artists here are TBC. We as wikians, fans, aren't obliged to figure out what order these should be in. And look at how long this section is! We're arguing over such a petty thing and getting so wordy and argumentative about it. My opinion: Eeenie Menie Meinie Mo. Whichever Easter Egg gets picked goes first, the other doesn't. No reverting, it honestly doesn't matter, just PICK ONE. -Brightstar 02:19, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
 +
::::::::::::I agree that we shoud not be trying to interpret the art to the degree that we decide the order of eggs on what's funnier. I do think we should employ a regular criterion, however, and the one that is most useful in terms of documenting the toon is to use the beginning-end, top-bottom, left-right approach. That's how most users will approach the toon. If a particular clickpoint is more prominent or obvious, that could supercede. But in this case, Homestar first seems the correct choice based on objective analysis. 03:23, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
 +
:Just when I think I'm out... Okay, Brightstar Shiner gave me something to think about. Thanks for that. Yes, without question the artists are TBC. Also, if they (TBC) felt that something absolutely HAD to be in a certain order, it either wouldn't be an easter egg (it would be part of the main e-mail content), or it would be one easter egg with one thing following the other, thus forcing the viewer to see it their preferred order. Therefore, we can safely assume that they are comfortable with these easter eggs being viewed in an arbitrary order. Either way works, or they wouldn't have allowed it to be either way. In light of this, I find Qermaq's argument very compelling. In this case, both the top/bottom and the more prominent clickpoint argument works in favor of the switch. I think it also happens to tell a better story, but I've already confessed that that is totally subjective. One last thought on this... everyone contributing to this process has been just great. This could easily have turned into a flame war or an edit war, but it has stayed entirely civil. I admire all of you for that. --72.229.110.222 04:18, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
 +
::Indeed, making the choice based on subjective feelings is arbitrary and non-useful. I purposefully avoided my own comedic sense in thinking about this. We're documenting the toon, not interpreting it. Therefore, we need to remain objective, and in the case of clickable points on a screen, what's more objective than reading order? And to Anonny's last point - no, we don't want a flame war; this is what happens when no one does! Isn't is nice? Don't you want to be part of a community which operates under such mutual respect? Go for it. Sign up. 04:39, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

I almost switched this before I saw the note that said bring it to talk page.  Now I see this hasn't been in question for almost 10 months now, which is ridiculous.  I've felt strongly about it being Homestar, then Coach Z ever since I first saw the toon.  In fact, idk why i left it for this long. Here are some reasons why:
 +
*Everyone knows that mashing the tab key tells you where the clickable items are in the page.  And if you didn't, you do now.  Anyway, the exact order of tabbing is: the paper, the Homestar easter egg, the Coach Z easter egg, the go back link, with Homestar coming before Coach Z.
 +
*i agree with whoever said that "sports team" is more likely to be a water cooler conversation subject to talk about.  it looks to me like homestar was attempting to start talking about a sports team, since he actually does say he's making water cooler conversation, trying to sound up with the times, whereas coach z gives no reason why he might have said "sports team".  I also agree with the fact that Coach Z is more likely to talk about a sports team, but there is a big difference between saying two words out of context and to start talking about what the two words are about.  Like, if I'm talking about you and you catch me on something and I just randomly say "ballet practice" in response, just to make a different example than "sports team", that never means i started talking about ballet practice.  <s>It looked to me like Coach Z saying it was a reference to Homestar saying it</s> I guess either one could be a reference to the other, actually.
 +
*Also, it seems like Homestar's easter egg was like continuing the current story, which you're already up on your toes for, when Coach z's was going back a ways.  If Coach Z's comes first, then you would have to go back a ways twice instead of once.  If they show up at the same time, the easter eggs should be in order of how close they are to the subject of the easter egg.  As for order top to bottom, that's Homestar to coach z; and order left to right dne.
 +
*<s>As for frames, what the heck were you talking about?</s> thanks to Qermaq i guess i really don't need to say that.
 +
 +
 +
To make a long story short, I say Homestar before Coach Z and honestly, i never go off like that unless it's well worth your time.  So read it and be enlightened as to which is the better choice.  Kevin G. Dannerson 18:40, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

:Wow would you look at that. A glitch in my flash player revealed the answer to me. It turns out the one i fought for in july of last year (yes i changed my name since then) is incorrect. I still think the wrong order is better though. My flash player is playing a couple seconds into the easter eggs in sequential order. At the end of the toon, i hear coach z saying "nah, i bet if" and then at the end of the coach z easter egg, i hear homestar saying, "yeah. ye" and at the end of the homestar easter egg, i don't hear anything, so i'm gonna say this is the answer that has been reclusive from us for so long. anyone want to agree? or is no one ever going to see this, like what happened the last time i tried to write something in this argument? y'all should really look. if you agree, respond b/c i'm pretty sure this is the resolution to this cliffhanger. 20:11, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm thinking that Malmsteen's comet is not a reference to Frehley.  Just Malmsteen.  I mean, after all, nearly every well-known comet is named possessively, like Halley's.  Besides, isn't Ace like one of the least popular of the original K.I.S.S. members? (Sorry if I'm wrong on that.)  I suppose what I'm suggesting here is that maybe it just be changed to "possibly a reference to Frehley's" etc. etc.  Opinions?  I may just be bold and change it myself, since it's not too major. -- 4.244.208.196 22:56, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

I can confirm that Cessna Man!'s registered wiki email address contains the word "jake" and that the email was also used to register a website under the name Jake that contains the word "jake". -- Tom 00:59, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

I thought there would be a new new lappy soon. Has been a while!
I'm willing to bet that this was just part of the exaggerated cliffhanger theme of the email, and nothing more. Strong Bad will more than likely have the Lappy back next email, and no explanation will be made as to what happened at the end of this email. --ISlayedTheKerrek 13:10, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Oh, there will be an explanation. You can count on it. It's a two-part suspense story arc like the end of the Compy. And maybe the blood from Lappy's little toe is ketchup, not to be confused with catsup. I don't want Lappy to get replaced. She's had a short run. —BazookaJoe 13:39, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Actually, from animal to today, there are presently 40 emails on the Lappy. That's the exact same number of emails on the Tandy 400 (from some kinda robot to vacation). MHarrington 21:55, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

In terms of time, we've had the Lappy almost 2 years now, which was about the same as the compy.-Teh 4rticle B4ndit

Did anybody notice that the Lappy's been around for as long as Compy, but only had as many emails as the Tandy? Even so, this is a little early to make a descision. There could be an explanation and he just gets it back, although I doubt it. -Brightstar 20:13, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 'nother Batman Parody

The first cliffhanger is a parody of one of those Batman scenes where the villain (Coach Z) tries to unmask Batman (Thnikkaman), however he gets away. This should go in Real World References as well as the Batman page.

True, but this happens to other superheroes as well. Thus, it's TTATOT and not notable. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:21, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
However, the announcer for the second cliffhanger is the same one that appeared in fingers, and TBC noted in the commentary for that e-mail that it was, indeed, a parody of Batman. KensterFox 10:41, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Apples and oranges. Qermaq is right. This is TTATOT. It's only notable for the appearance of the announcer, and is not a Batman reference. --ISlayedTheKerrek 13:11, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Whammy speed?

"Then strap in, Strap, and prepare for ramming speed!"

I heard whammy speed, which would fit in with all the other guitar related jokes in that segment. Swimma Dan 02:38, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Hmm. It would certainly make sense. Though I wouldn't edit it in until we can confirm it one way or the other. ~ Bruce 04:28, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
That would be brilliant, but I'm afraid I hear "ramming." —AbdiViklas 04:30, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
After listening to it again, I definately hear ramming. The other guitar references must have clouded my judgement. Swimma Dan 01:35, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Remarks

1: Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think this is the first time the paper has failed completely to mention the word "email."

2: I believe that this is also the first time anything on Homestarrunner has explicitly said it will have a sequel. 66.251.27.251

The Dangeresque "trilogy" could be taken as counting against the latter, but I think you're right about the former. (I even clicked it to make sure it wasn't an Easter egg.) —AbdiViklas 04:06, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cakewalk

Is it possible that rather than the Atari game, the disk in the box is the old MIDI sequencing software "Cakewalk"? That would seem more appropriate for a 486, and the Cheat and Strong Bad do, after all, dabble in music. Generally it seems the precedent of the Floppy Disk Container is to be for games that were distributed for systems that actually used some kind of disk...

Possibly, but it would go against the grain. I'm pretty sure every disk in the Floppy Disk Container thus far has been for a game. Sure, this one happens to be an Atari game instead of a computer game, but heaven knows it wouldn't be the first absurdity in the HsR universe. ~ Bruce 04:31, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Even considering all the other music references in this email?

[edit] Leon Powalski

I don't think this is solid enough to put on the page, but the lizard-creature in Strong Bad's mock spaceship reminds me a lot of Leon Powalski from the Star Fox series. Just throwing it out is all. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 03:58, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

He reminded me of Balok from the original Trek episode The Corbomite Maneuver (and yes, I had to look all that up; all I remembered was "grape-headed alien dude"). —AbdiViklas 04:12, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Ah, but he has the chameleon eyes that your Balok seems to lack. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 04:18, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

As I I'd never previously seen one of those, that didn't occur to me. Now that I have seen one, I think you're on to something. That does fit a little better than Leon. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 04:43, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pregnancy

This is the second time a male mentions (or anyone for that matter) becoming pregnant. The Cheat Commandos had the only other one, right?

Yep. I believe you're right. But related, Coach Z once implied that he was a mother. Remember the email Garage Sale? Strong Bad: "Ah ah ah... moms ONLY!" Coach Z: "Oh, then I'm okay to say it!" ~ Bruce 04:37, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Actually, for this one, I think this might be a reference to the episode "Cash" from The Young Ones. In that one, Vyvyan (a male, yes) 'admits' to being pregnant when asked to join the army. The two instances are very similar. (~InvaderJem)

The transcript states SS says "I think I'd like my money back now." but I heard it as "my bunny". This is funnier/more tragic as it implies Homestar "borrowed" the bunny for a rabbit test. Did anyone else hear bunny there? (~Kirin)

Sounds like "money" here. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:48, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thnikkaman

How come in the debut episode of The Thnikkaman ( Monument ) , He takes his Cool Shades off ( Twice ), But in the Cliffhangers episode, Coach Z is trying to reveal The Thnikkaman by taking off the Cool Shades? Wait... Wouldn't That Mean That Coach Z Is Naked... All The Time? INDECENT EXPOSERED'D -- Assassinator666 00:11, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

The Thnikkaman has two parts to his costume, his shades and his TH. Coach Z would have to take both off to find out who it is. He was most likely going to take off the shades then the TH. Still, I like this fact. Leave it on. SaltyTalk! 00:14, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A glitch?

Is it just me, or did the scene with Strong Sad and Homestar take forever? I mean, they just stood at the table staring at each other for about 20 seconds (then Strong Sad finally said something) and then afterwards the word "resolution" hangs on the screen for about another 30 seconds. I don't think the flash was broken because they were blinking all the while. Did this happen to anyone else? Jimmy91 16:54, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Must just be you. The "Resolution" screen lasts all of about 2 seconds, and the two didn't stare at each other for long, either. Are you on dial-up, by any chance? Flash allows the video to start before it's fully loaded, and if you got to that point and the scene hadn't been completely loaded yet, then it's going to pause until it does. They were still blinking because the blinking animation is a "tween"--sort of like a seperate animation "thread" that repeats over and over. ~ Bruce 16:11, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, this is something that occasionally happens when you're on dial-up or any other laggy/slow connection; the toon will freeze for a few seconds while waiting for the rest of it to load. Used to happen to me all the time, when I was still stuck on dial-up. Kind of interesting that it froze right at that moment, though - for a second I probably would've thought it was intentional, you know, to heighten the suspense.  :) - Image:TinySaturn2.GIF Saturn 16:46, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
As it happens, I'm not on dial-up, but it probably was my connection. (it seemed a bit laggy) Isn't that kind of thing called buffering, or does that not apply to flash? Jimmy91 16:54, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
ha, yeah, that always happened to me when i had dialup. it positively sucked. 18:33, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I think the whole point of the "loading..." screen is to buffer the entire thing, not just the first few seconds. If it were proper video it would take forever to do that, but as Flash symbols it's small enough that it can all be done at the start. 81.158.52.207 22:30, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
Actually, the loading screen doesn't preload the entire movie... in this case it only loads as far as when Coach Z starts saying his line "the world will discover your secret, sorcret identity!". After that, it's possible that a slow connection will make the buffer underrun. --phlip TC 00:08, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
not that i doubt you philip, but i was just wondering how you know that? i dont know too much about flash. csours 06:00, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] KOT pose

Isn't the pose the KOT is in when he's suspended from the cliff the same one he was in when he was stuck in the tyre swing in Weclome Back? (this may or may not merit a place on the article, but I was just bringing it up). Jimmy91 16:53, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Yus, I noticed that too. I didn't think it was THAT noteworthy, but I have no problem with it being included. --DorianGray
I noticed they tripled up the rope to make it match the width of the tire. - Joshua 17:51, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
I think it's interesting to note that here on the talk page, but I don't think it's article-worthy at all. TBC reuse animation all the times. — It's dot com 18:54, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
But there is similar fact on the lunch special page. --Trogga 19:02, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Goof

Oops.

I think I found a goof but I want to make sure everyone else is seeing it too before I add it...

During most of the spaceship scene, the green ground is slightly cut off on the left side of the screen, so that a strip of white is visible along the black edge of the frame. Here's a picture in case I'm not making any sense (which... I'm not); you can see it the most at the scene where The Cheat is messing with the CD player. - Image:TinySaturn2.GIF Saturn 19:21, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Definitely a goof. Add it in. --DumDe 19:53, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ropes

I can't see anything that the ropes holding the King of Town and Homsar could've been attached to. Also, as a note, Strong Bad is very skilled at swinging that big knife. --Proxtown 22:36, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I'm going through it frame by frame right now, and it looks really odd. At first glance, it would seem that they're just knotted on the edge of the cliff. But Strong Bad's knife goes under the cliff, so it would have to be further back. - link_icon.gifThe Joe(Talk) 23:05, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Creepy Cliff?

Doesn't the cliff Homsar and The KOT look like the Creepy Cliff from Halloween Potion-Ma-Jig? And Strong Bad looks totally awesoem with that machete with him.

That machete is actually the big knife. Also, the cliff could be te same cliff, but it could also not be --DumDe 23:47, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Yes, it's impossible to tell from the angle whether they are the same or different/ That could be noted on the Cliffs page, I suppose. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:47, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Other elements to focus on

This gives us more insight into Coach Z's life. He coaches because his "secrort" is that he has poor hand-eye coordination, limiting his actual playing abilities. "Those who can't, teach," as the cruel saying goes. But this is hrwiki where nearly every pixel is examined, so let's amp this up. Why the comma? Why the less-than sign? What is the significance to this? Why not the tilde button? Much more a "little toe." And any significance to the missing T in "Nex time?"

Correct, this is the hrwiki. We document facts about Homestar Runner toons. Speculations like these are discussed on the forum. As for Coach Z's secret, you could be bold and add this on his page. Loafing 04:23, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
If you want to ask a question, you do it on the forum. If you have a theory, then be bold and post it here and then people will argue about it until its 2 pages long. JamesDean 07:17, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I think a comma because it looks kinda like a toe and it's at the bottom of the keyboard, an anagalous(sp?) place where a toe would be. Foolster41

It's the comma becuse yeah, it's on the bottom. And most definitely the left little-toe, because if the screen is the Lappy's face, it's facing Strong Bad, and so the comma is on the right of the keyboard, which would be Lappy's left. -Ein Poltergeist
"Those who can't, teach. Those who can't teach, teach gym". Works wonderful on the coach :). Elcool (talk)(contribs) 09:48, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
Have you seen School of Rock? That's the only place where I know that that quote came from. And if he didn't have good hand-eye coordination, how can he blow a whistle with such dexterity? ^_~ -Brightstar 20:44, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
The phrase is, I think, coined by Woody Allen, and he said it in his film Annie Hall. I don't know for sure, however, that he was the original writer of the line. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 21:16, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thrynn?

I'm trying to find a screenshot to verify this, but the drawing of the reptile-looking alien inside of Space Captainface's ship looks remarkabky like a Thrynn from the old PC/Sega Genesis game "Starflight." Does anyone else have a way to help verify this? -204.155.72.139 18:05, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

As I noted above, I saw a totally different reptilian alien creature from a video game when I saw it... --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 19:36, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Beatles song "Revolution"

Apparently this was disputed for some reason, but I think it's pretty obvious that SB's line, "so you say you want a resolution, huh?" is a reference to a famous line from the song "Revolution" by the Beatles. The line begins, "so you say you want a revolution?" I can't see much to dispute there. - Pete Sampwas 01:34, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I completely agree. Being a Beatles fan, I back Pete's statement. It probably is what they were trying to convey.
Oh, don't let being a Beatles fan cloud your judgement ;-) The fact was deleted because "Revolution" is not the only song featuring such a line (and the fact that the other songs probably reference "Revolution" does not change this) [1] (and just so you know, I have all their albums on CD). Loafing 03:28, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
However, a reference to a thing that in itself is a reference is invalid normally. So, the Marilyn Manson reference would be revertible simply on the basis of it being itself a reference to the Beatles. Thus we are left with the same question - is it likelier than not the line is a reference to "Revolution"? I think perhaps it is. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 04:02, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
Not true. What if TBC thought of the Manson song and not the Beatles song? What if they didn't even know about the Beatles song? The toon does not give any hint towards this. Which leads us to the next question: is this a reference at all? Is "So you say you want a resolution, eh?" not what you would expect SB to say anyway? He's not even singing it. The "reference" is weak, and we can't say for sure what exactly it references. Loafing 04:25, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Eh. I think this is maybe being a little overthought. Since the beatles song is the more well known (Who knows about Manson who hasn't heard of The Beatles?), isn't the more liekly that it is the one being refrenced? Foolster41

While Manson was only mentioned in one remark (which is probably quoted from somone at the con) in the commentary for TrogdorCon, The Beatles are referenced 14 times, including a parody by Homestar. Therefor I think the reference is to The Beatles' song. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 09:45, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
Sounds convincing. But are we sure that this is in fact a reference? Loafing 10:23, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
After sleeping on this, I believe that it is a reference. SB could have said "So, you want a resolution?", but TBC chose to use the longer version instead; probably as a reference to "Revolution". Loafing 20:26, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I'd just like to add to the discussion that the song "Revolution" was used in a well known Nike TV commercial in 1987, and that ad prominently used the chorus. It was also the subject of much controversy (about whether John Lennon would have wanted his song used to sell sneakers), at least partially due to the fact that it was one of the first times that an original recording of a pop song was used in such a way. (This is discussed in the wikipedia entry on the song.) Given the date of many of the other BrosChaps references, this may be the source of the quote (not that they don't know it's a Beatles song, but that's what makes it stick out in their minds) -- Wfaulk 13:12, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I wasn't even aware that Marilyn Manson used the same line in one of his songs, and at least now I know what the dispute is about. Since the Beatles song was written about thirty-odd years before MM even started performing, and was already a highly influential song at that, you have to wonder where MM got the inspiration to include that line from..? - Pete Sampwas 14:44, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

If you look at the lyrics of the MM song, then it's obvious that he is referencing "Revolution". But that's not quite the topic of this section. Loafing 20:25, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
I don't even know which MM song features the line, since I don't really like his stuff. But it isn't important anyway, since there seems to now be a consensus that it was a reference to the Beatles. Unless anybody else complains, I'm going to add it to the Real-world references soon. - Pete Sampwas 01:52, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Awright. The fact is back on the article page. Loafing 06:48, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Easter Egg Sequence

Doesn't anybody else think that the two end easter eggs should be listed in the opposite order (Homestar/SB then Z/Bubs)? Not only was the trigger for Homestar/SB physically above the other, Z/Bubs clearly refers back to it more easily than vice versa: the more awkward "accusing yourself of being the Thnikkaman" seems more a parody of "admitting that you stole my computer", and Homestar's "...sports team" is actually somewhat appropriate given its context (water cooler talk : sports) whereas it was a complete non sequitur when Coach Z said it. 69.168.161.140 01:54, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Coach Z would be likely to actually talk about a sports team, as he's a coach. However, I support putting them in the order we see the links on the page. It's senseless to decide on an order from contextual clues, as we do not know the order the viewer will discover the links. Nor should we present a presumed sequence when none is implicit. The only sensible sequences to follow in listing eggs are earlier/later, top/bottom, left/right. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:56, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
They are currently in the order they appear in the actual Flash file. Coach Z and Bubs are frames 2501 to 2681 and Homestar and Strong Bad are frames 2695 to 2938. -- Tom 03:01, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
While that's meaningful to you or I, it's less so to the average viewer who might consult the knowledgebase. Putting the ransom note one (SB+HR) first, and the outlet one (CZ+B) second makes ordering sense for those who aren't aware of what frame they're in. And that's who we're trying to help here, isn't it? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:15, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
I do think that the Coach Z one should be first, for a few reasons: (1) The Coach Z one is first in the Flash file, so it shows that TBC likely consider it to come first, or at least made it first. (B) The Coach Z one refers to an earlier part of the toon (Cliffhanger #1) than the Homestar one (Cliffhanger #4). (III) It makes more sense (to me) for Coach Z to talk about sports, since he's a coach after all, then Homestar's line referring to that, than vice-versa. --phlip TC
But this is presuming order where none was given. It's imposing your artistic intent over TBC's, which is not our role. The only order the common user is afforded here is visually sequential order, top/bottom, left/right. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:59, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm somewhat between you guys. Aren't we always trying to interpret what TBC meant to do? What the characters are saying and what they are referring to? Anyways, for Easter eggs that are accessible in the same frame, no natural order is given. We have to invent one. Be it left/right and top/bottom, size and colour (prominence), order in the Flash file, or by content, I don't mind much. My guess is that the order they are in in the Flash file is the intended order, as the file would probably match the thought process of TBC.  Loafing 04:41, 21 September 2006 (UTC) Addendum: (If the Easter eggs appear in text on the compy, then I think they should be listed in that order.)
For what it's worth, I'm for Coach first, Homestar second. I saw the "sports team" line as being more naturally appropriate to the Z. But it's not that big a deal to me if consensus goes the other way. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 08:32, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm for listing Coach Bubs before Homestar Bad. The fact the Coach Z grumbled before saying "sports team", for me at least, shows signs that he thought about the phrase before saying that. Homestar just spit it our after two seconds of thinking, making it a reference, rather then his own invention. (and all the other stuff Phlip and Jay said still counts) Elcool (talk)(contribs) 09:30, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm for Homestar, then Coach Z. Humour comes before programming in my [metaphorical] book, and the Homestar-then-Coach-Z combination is definitely the funniest sequence. Also, the ransom notice is more obviously an easter egg link than the socket (although the socket has been used before), and the sequence makes more sense due to the expectation that the characters will be discussing "whodunit", so to speak, and the Coach and the Bubs are discussing something different. So, in summary: unexpected + reference / correct order = solid easter egg. --Ppk01 13:44, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
I think there is a consensus emerging here. In truth, I actually edited the page to reverse the easter eggs before checking the discussion page to see that there was already talk on this issue. (Jay reversed me) I have never felt strongly enough to edit anything here before. As the story of this e-mail unfolds, Homestar first, then Coach Z makes WAY MORE SENSE. Not only do the links flow top to bottom, but the ransom note is the more obvious thing to click on and likely to be found first. Besides that, since Homestar makes mention of why he is about to migrate to the sports team topic, it makes Coach Z's migration not only funnier, but even more absurd of a non sequitur. Regardless of programming order, the easter eggs tell a story, and Homestar followed by Coach Z is the only logical way to tell that story. I strongly encourage the switching of the order. One final thought: If the order had been Homestar followed by Coach Z from the very beginning, does anyone honestly think that there would be a discussion thread suggesting that they needed to be reversed? That's proof enough for me that we should just switch them and put this behind us. --72.229.110.222 21:35, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Same thing here. I've only once before ever thought to edit a page here, and the ordering of this was number two. The most compelling arguments above are these:
the ransom notice is more obviously an easter egg link than the socket...and the sequence makes more sense due to the expectation that the characters will be discussing "whodunit"....
Since Homestar makes mention of why he is about to migrate to the sports team topic, it makes Coach Z's migration....funnier [coming second].
You know what: forget it. I'm changing the order -- feel free to revert or ban me or whatever. There is no universe in which it is either funnier or more coherent to read the coach Z clip before reading the homestar clip. ---- (sorry, I thought four dashes prints my ip address and timestamp. in any case, it's available in the version history.) — 69.86.179.137 (Talk | contribs) 07:03, 23 September 2006 (left unsigned)
We have not actually reached a consensus here. It seems evenly split to me. And the anonny should learn to discuss their view first before doing something that gets reverted anyway. Loafing 07:38, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
I was trying to post just that and then got sidetracked on another page. But anyway, even if you are confident that you are right and the page is wrong, if we're having a discussion like this, you should not change the article itself. To do so results in edit wars, which benefit nobody. You may always contribute to the discussion. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 07:48, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
(You're right, obviously, and I apologize for going ahead with the edit anyway. This discussion seems even more ridiculous now that I've also read the one above in which someone argues that "you say you want a revolution" could very well be a reference to a marilyn manson song and not the (fairly obvious) beatles song. And someone will have to add the sig for me again, I guess. Apologies. ----)
I'm going to have to go with Homestar first, on the basis that the "it" in "you know who I think done it?" is better understood grammatically and has better comedic timing in an uninterrupted sequence, id est, when viewed immediately after the Lappy-napping.
Of course, the argument about the order of "sports teams" is valid, but I say it doesn't have to be in the Coach Z → Homestar order to be more funny/make more sense. Also, the order of Easter eggs in the Flash file is another clue, but again I say it doesn't have to be the case. If we did Easter eggs in order of Flash file for flashback, we would have to click "left firework / have / 100 / answered / right firework / you" in order, with a totally ambiguous "Congratulations".
So, there you go, all arguments for each order have positive qualities and negative qualities. So, who's right? Nobody. Everybody. Strong, Mad?
BazookaJoe 17:10, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
Ooh, ooh, I thought of another one. --Ppk01 21:52, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
a) Coach Z is the most likely person to talk about sport, even if he has no clue about it. Thousands of people do that. b) signalling that you're not willing to compromise is never good. Loafing 04:39, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Here's the current situation as I see it.
As I see it, at this stage, we're still trying to reach a consensus instead of having an actual vote. Loafing 04:39, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
While I respect your point about being an anonymous user, I see it the other way around.
It's not that unusual that anonymous users contribute to discussions. Most of them only leave one comment and aren't heard of again, unlike you.  Loafing 05:13, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
I take your point seriously that my continued contributions may warrant registration and more vigorous participation in the future.
It's 6-5 in favor of switching right now, by my figures, for reference. However, and I mean this with all due respect, two of the "fors" are anonnies. Kind of an unusual split, to be honest. Thoughts from others? --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 07:21, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
This is why only registered users are allowed to vote on STUFF. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 08:17, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for contributing to this.
Woooooowww.
I agree that we shoud not be trying to interpret the art to the degree that we decide the order of eggs on what's funnier. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:23, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Just when I think I'm out...
Indeed, making the choice based on subjective feelings is arbitrary and non-useful. Go for it. Sign up. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 04:39, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

 • Everyone knows that mashing the tab key tells you where the clickable items are in the page. And if you didn't, you do now. Anyway, the exact order of tabbing is: the paper, the Homestar easter egg, the Coach Z easter egg, the go back link, with Homestar coming before Coach Z.
 • i agree with whoever said that "sports team" is more likely to be a water cooler conversation subject to talk about. it looks to me like homestar was attempting to start talking about a sports team, since he actually does say he's making water cooler conversation, trying to sound up with the times, whereas coach z gives no reason why he might have said "sports team". It looked to me like Coach Z saying it was a reference to Homestar saying it I guess either one could be a reference to the other, actually.
 • Also, it seems like Homestar's easter egg was like continuing the current story, which you're already up on your toes for, when Coach z's was going back a ways. If Coach Z's comes first, then you would have to go back a ways twice instead of once. If they show up at the same time, the easter eggs should be in order of how close they are to the subject of the easter egg. As for order top to bottom, that's Homestar to coach z; and order left to right dne.
 • As for frames, what the heck were you talking about? thanks to Qermaq i guess i really don't need to say that.

To make a long story short, I say Homestar before Coach Z and honestly, i never go off like that unless it's well worth your time. So read it and be enlightened as to which is the better choice. Kevin G. Dannerson 18:40, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Wow would you look at that. [edit] Coach Z

Guys, Coach Z said something along the lines of "Now, i'g going to reveal your secret, sorcret identity!"

You should include that in Coach Z's page, as his accent is fake.

[edit] Jakenstein!?

I've never used the edit section of a wiki before, so bear with me here. I just wanted to point out that Strong bad isn't saying "And there you go, Jakenstein." Actually, he's saying "And there you go, Jacob Stein." This is a reference to the movie "Blues Brothers" when Jake Blues (Jake being the name of the author of the email Strong Bad is responding to) introduces himself to the Good 'Ole Boys as "Jacob Stein of the American Federation of Musicians."

Well done for posting! :-) But I really do hear "Jakenstein" after listening to that passage about five times now. Loafing 01:26, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What about money?

Maybe I'm missing the joke, but does anyone understand why Strong Sad says "I'd like my money back now" after Homestar says he's pregnant? What money? Did he pay Homestar money to tell him the secret? Or give him money for a pregnancy test? Let me know. -Compdude

I was thinking he paid to hear the secret. Why would he pay for a pregnancy test he hadn't heard about? However, this isn't notable for the page. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:24, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Possible Simpsons quote?

I thought I'd ask here first before I tried adding it to the article but who thinks that Strong Bad's "lady irony" line references a quote from The Simpsons? Think about it:

STRONG BAD: {after finding out that his computer's been Lappy-napped} Oh, sweet lady irony! Why do you mock me? {from cliffhangers (sbemail 156)}

HOMER SIMPSON: {after finding out he can't go to the monster truck rally since Lisa is performing at a school concert on the same night} Oh, cruel fate! Why do you mock me? {from Bart the Daredevil (7F06)}

What do you think? Stupid coincidence or obscure reference? Shall I put it in STUFF? – The Chort 18:11, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Actually, the first song I thought of was Kirk Franklin's "Revolution" which goes:

OH OH OH OH OH OH OOOOOH OOOOH DO YOU WANT A REVOLUTION?! WHOO, WHOO! SAY DO YOU WANT A REVOLUTION?! WHOO, WHOO! COME ON!

And for what it's worth, it's very hard to listen to this song and be depressed (or almost any Kirk Franklin, for that matter).

[edit] Yet another question by BassBone

Anyone think Strong Bad's shout of "Oh Shooooooo(t)!" as the Proud Anselmo goes down is a reference to what Data shouts in Star Trek: Generations as the Enterprise goes down?— Bassbone (TALK Strong Mad Has a Posse CONT) 22:39, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Not at all, it's a reference to TTATOT. DeFender1031 15:53, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Food references: Good Eats?

Could the synthesized music after "It's guacamole and banana bread time, Strap!" be a nod to the show Good Eats? It sounds very similar to the incidental music played in that show (for instance, while trivia is being displayed) ... --Benjamin Geiger 11:58, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

It's not similar at all, except they're both... incidental music. Maybe if the context was similar I'd call this a reference, but I seriously doubt that it is. —Zelinda 12:43, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
I figured that the 'food' aspect, and the obvious "synthesizer sound", made it a fairly clear reference. Besides, they sound very similar, not like the 'disco' mentioned on the page at all... but that's just me, I guess. --Benjamin Geiger 13:04, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thnikkaman singers

Does anyone else think the Thnikkaman singers from this and maybe Marzipan's Answering Machine sound different than the ones from monument? Bad Bad Guy 18:22, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] YMCA

THe ransom note... the Y in Lappy... that's the YMCA y, right?

[edit] The Forward Humbuckers

A proposed addition to the Real-World references section:

 • "The forward humbuckers have never worked" is a phrase that parodies Science Fiction works that introduce 'impenetrable' shields that never quite work when called upon to meet their purpose.

[edit] Dramatic Sound Effect

 • As a Wiki Gnome, I thought I should try editing the article (in a good way) using "dramatic sound effect (dun, dun, dunnn)" every time the "Resolution" scene is in the transcript just to make things "simpler" instead of using just the "onoemotopeia" [sic] as a substitute. -Ümläut76 (The C Zone · Talk here!) 18:36, 29 November 2008 (UTC) P.S.: This is saved as a minor edit.

[edit] Obscure. Needs explanation.

I have no idea what Strong Sad means by "I think I want my money back now". I bet many others also face this promblem problem. Could someone clear this up? --Jellote 23:15, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

My guess is that Homestar was paid to share a bed with Strong Sad in No Hands on Deck! BBG 23:26, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
