Transcribing

Does Strong Bad look odd

His arms seem lower and his gloves seems bigger to me. Am I going mad, or has he been slightly redesigned? Lord-z 16:02, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Yeah...I kinda noticed something wrong with his arms, and I think that is it. They seem to be slightly lower and more to his side/behind him.

His boots look different too. This should be added to the character evolution page.

Not quite. The shading on the shoes is similar (more so to either one than design 7) but different. The arm lengths are completely different. His head is also larger in proportion in design 8. --Jay (Talk) 23:57, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

My first transcript

Three cheers for my first transcript! Hooray! Seriously though, I left out a whole lot of stuff. People should verify that my dialogue is accurate, check for spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors, and add details that I wasn't able to. It's Dot Matrix

An explanation of my (reverted) removal of the fact that The Printer is apparently dot matrix is in order. It's Dot Com, you're absolutely right. The printer that The Paper comes from is obviously a dot matrix. That's a very distinctive sound, and the appearance of the font clinches it. But my point is that the fact has nothing to do with this toon. We've known for years that it's a dot matrix. There's no new evidence presented by this picture of the printer.

On the other hand, if someone could find a specific model of printer that this new picture is based on, that would be noteworthy. But I've tried. As I expected, it resembles slightly every home-computer printer made in the mid-to-late-1980s, and resembles none of them exactly. --TheNicestGuy 21:34, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

I'd say it more closely resembles an Epson LX-800. The cartoon printer does not have the smoked-translucent-plastic window that the L-1000 has.

Tejas

I'm kinda on the fence about the Tejas fact. On one hand, I agree that it should be mentioned that Strong Bad has pronounced "Texas" as "TEH-hahs" in the past, and the writer of the email may be directly referencing that. BUT: I think it's also important that people understand that "TEH-hahs" is not uniquely Strong Bad's pronunciation, but rather how "Texas" is pronounced in Spanish. But the fact that it's a "common" misspelling of the word "lose" means that there's a lot of people out there who won't get the joke. It'd be good to put that down here for those people.

A fantastic stretch

Marzi Stewart?

Should we add that Marzipan's crafts are probably modeled after Martha Stewart? I think they are. Is that too obvious, not obvious enough...?Trelawney

• It's TTATOT. They're based on numerous craft how to shows. Martha Stewart would probably be the best known, but there are really so many that you'd have to have something more specific to call it a reference to Martha Stewart (For instance, Martha Stewart actually made something out of junk mail and kitty litter, or actually called her scissors "snip-snipperouskis"). As far as referencing how-to shows similar to Martha Stewart: Living, I think it's a bit too obvious to be worth mentioning. PolarBoy

It's Dot Benday

Strong Bad's comic strip does indeed use Benday dots. (Well, at least some overlay effect that's clearly supposed to look like Benday dots.) Benday dots are indeed the trademark of artist Wikipedia:Roy Lichtenstein. However, there's no clear connection between Lichtenstein and this toon. They're both referencing the same source, which is inexpensively printed and melodramatic color comic books/strips. Lichtenstein's only known for the technique because he exaggerated it and introduced it to high art. It had already been in use for decades. As for mentioning the Benday dots themselves, I don't see the point. Any artist trying to evoke a comic strip feel would be likely to use a similar effect. Snip-sniparooskies

I was tempted to add a Goof about Marzipan's snip-sniparooskies behaving like pinking shears while being called scissors. (Note that they make a "crinkle cut" without her having to turn the paper or the scissors.) Then I noticed that Wikipedia defines pinking shears as a type of scissors. This doesn't agree with my experience where pinking shears and scissors are two different (albeit closely related) tools. Remember that Wikipedia isn't always right - in fact, it's frequently not. If you have strong evidence that the WP article is wrong, you should feel free to go and correct it there. This is especially true if you want to use WP as a reference here.

That said, I'm not sure this is all that noteworthy in this case. Those may be pinking shears, but I think in a more general sense anything that acts like a pair of scissors (regardless of type of cut) can be called a form of scissors - at least, that's how I'd expect most people think of it, whether it's technically correct or not. —  KieferSkunk (talk) — 20:14, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

How does SB get up?

After SB fails to do a two-handed push up, how is he able to get up from the prone position? It's pretty fast, but it looks like he effectively pushes himself up to a standing pose...

I know, who cares, etc. Just struck me as odd.

I looked into this, and if you slow those five frames down, you see that he actually uses his knees to get up. Here's that clip, twelve times slower than what you'd normally see:

Possible, but I'm thinking that's a bit of a stretch here. There are several points in the email where "Twees" has something to do with "butt". Also, if I'm not mistaken, the "Trees" you refer to up there is still pronounced the same as the plural of "tree" (treez, not treess), so the words don't match up. —  KieferSkunk (talk) — 02:15, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

--"The Iron Sheik also has a physique closely resembling Strong Bad's."-- What does that mean? Do they resemble each other? Does this Sheik character have a small round body and a giant head?
