Stinkoblade raises a good point here. A hasty perusal of the pages in the HRWiki Policy category didn't turn up anything on this point, but it would seem to me that it's a little "brusque" to remove anything from a page without a few words of explanation in the edit comment. It does happen a lot in the heat of the moment. Newbies learn faster when you repeatedly point them to such well-trod pages as HRWiki:Standards and HRWiki:Inclusion guidelines, and everyone's favorite HRWiki:Glossary#TTATOT. On the other hand, implying that their contribution wasn't even worth the extra twenty seconds to explain why it wasn't worth an extra twenty seconds has got to be frustrating. --TheNicestGuy 21:07, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

::::::Honestly, I have to agree with our anonymous idea poster.  I didn't think of the reference at first, but when the lyrics for Smart Drinks came out, I began thinking.  The song is rather hypnotic and subliminally suggestive, which makes the Brave New World reference seem much more plausible.

[edit] Homestar's t-shirt

Anybody know what Homestar's t-shirt says? I'm sure it's a reference to something, but I don't know what it is, and I can't make out what it says. Also, I tried moving his bathrobe by decompiling the Flash file, but the robe and the t-shirt are the same graphic. Trey56 17:51, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

See shape 501. Hotrod, it seems. No idea if it's a real shirt. OptimisticFool 17:58, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Strong Badia?

When people mention Strong Badia in their emails, Strong Bad seems to have stopped bothering to either a) actually assume they mean Strong Badia, and set the email there or b) correct them. I think this is the first time he goes ahead and assumes "Strong Badia" means "Free Country USA". Worth noting? User:Tim333

No, he does it all the time. This is not the first. — Defender1031*Talk 18:07, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
When has he done it before? "local news" is set in strong badia. In "keep cool" there's a deliberate fourth wall break explaining the error. "unnatural" is set (at least at the start) in Strong Badia. In "mini-golf" he says "Strong Badia doesn't have a place of its own..." I could go on, but I can't think of a single time he's simply ignored the mention of Strong Badia. User:Tim333

Technically this time he didn't quite ignore it, the FIRST place he shows is IN Strong Badia. Strong Badia has that hill. Then he says "but when it comes to good clubs...." like he's finished answering the actual e-mail and has moved on to other non-StrongBadian clubs. .. But seriously those people need to learn that Free Country Usa =/= Strong Badia. — 75.72.21.221 (Talk | contribs) 00:54, 11 December 2007 (UTC) (left unsigned)

Actually, no, Carrot and Kazoo Hill is not in Strong Badia, since you can see Strong Badia in the distance from the hill. But seriously, sign your posts. OptimisticFool 01:19, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Strong Badia vs. Bubs' Concession Stand

We have a strange reversal here. Strong Badia and Bubs' Concession Stand seem to have switched places! How do we mention this? Or do we? =] OptimisticFool 18:16, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Probably should just go on Inconsistencies within the Homestar Runner universe... Trey56 18:23, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
It's also possible that it's just the same, only viewed from the other side... Capt. Ido Nos (Talk | contribs) 18:34, 10 December 2007 (UTC) (left unsigned)
But we can clearly see that the stand is facing us in both shots, as well as the relative positions of the fence and the flag. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 18:36, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
It's the same place, the difference is the ELEVATION and RANGE of the image. Carrot and Kazoo hill would be in the middle-right of the black area in the first picture, hence you wouldn't see it in that picture. (Imagine looking at a hill from above - it would appear flat). This of course doesn't change that the two seem to be in the wrong places. StarLion 18:41, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
And not just the fence and flag, but the tire as well (which IS there in nightlife, if you look closely). It's clear they somehow switched places. Anyway, the wording escapes me on how to phrase it on the inconsistencies page, so I'll let someone else do that. (And please sign your edits, Capt.) OptimisticFool 18:48, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Just had a thought... if Bubs is working nights at Club Technochocolate tending bar, why is the light on at Bubs' Concession Stand??? StarLion 23:42, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Those two times couldn't have taken place on the same night as both Strong Sad and Homestar were at the club. Homestar-Winner (talk) 01:36, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Additionally, isn't is possible that Club Technochocolate is in the concession stand? We've never seen the outside of it, Bubs works there, and in the Cheat's video, he says he DJ's down at Bubs'sDAGRON 01:51, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
They could have been the same night, just not at the same time. In either case, if Bubs' stand was open, where's Bubs? His silhouette should be there.
Postulation: Club Technochocolate is actually in the Basement of Bubs' stand, as we have seen him descend into at least twice before. -StarLion 04:41, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removed Edit

The quote "But that's for another e-mail." is a reference to Good Eats, where host Alton Brown constantly implies that a recipe or topic has been or will be discussed on another episode with a similar phrase.

I don't mind, just I'd like to know a reason. It is a real reference, I watch the show a great deal, but I'd at least like to know Stinkoblade 19:26, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

The phrase "but that's another email" could stem from many common phrases, not least of which is the idiom "but that's another story". OptimisticFool 19:32, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok, so very common then, thas cool. At least it was a good reason. I've seen some edits removed when the reason wasn't very clear, thats why I posted this.Stinkoblade 19:34, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Soma

Is it worth noting anything about Soma (Brave New World, etc.)? It's not exactly relevant, given it's just a strange pronunciation, but perhaps it's worthy of a mention.

 • When I saw it, I thought more of Soma as in the one in San Francisco, which has a lot of bars and nightlife... Criacow 05:35, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
I don't think this is a reference to anything: I think it's just a corruption name signed by the sender. There's nothing to link this to Brave New World at all, and I don't know that the SF reference is too strong, either. Heimstern Läufer 06:45, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
If we're shooting for wild stretches, maybe it's a reference to Soma Cruz, the main character from Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. After all, Strong Bad used it as a name, and the Castlevania games are definitely about "the night"! ...only, no. It's not. Because there's no reason for it to be. Because it makes no sense in context. And because, as I said, it's a ridiculous stretch and a coincidence that ends beyond name. Not *everything* is a reference... -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 07:20, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Soma's also a japanese last name (see all the main characters if Fruits Basket, for example) and a common japanese place name, the cell body of the neuron, a ritual drink, and lots of other stuff. So, there's your "other reference." TTATOT, yet? =3 -DAGRON 07:28, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I think it's a reference to Sora, from Kingdom Hearts. Strong Bad probably saw "Somekindaguy" and wanted to pronounce the first part similar to "Sora", and "Soma" was the best he could do. I'll go add the reference. OptimisticFool 07:40, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Honestly, I have to agree with our anonymous idea poster. I didn't think of the reference at first, but when the lyrics for Smart Drinks came out, I began thinking. The song is rather hypnotic and subliminally suggestive, which makes the Brave New World reference seem much more plausible.
On the other hand, TBC don't strike me as the kind of guys to put a random reference to a classic sci-fi novel in one of the cartoons. Classic other things, yes. But not sci-fi novels. Even if it's unlikely, though, must we really be so hard on poor Anonny? --Onamuji 13:59, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Brave New World was the first thing that I thought of, particularly due to the hypnotic happiness induced by the drugs. Although soma was originally, I believe, a type of hypnotic drink from the Indus river. And Brave New World isn't really a sci-fi novel, but rather a dystopian one. [edit] A scandal every week

Removed from the Remarks section, but interesting enough for the Talk page:

 • Strong Bad's email song is rhythmically identical to the one from dragon ("Here I go once again with the email...").

Check it out. It's probably unintentional, but it's almost a perfect match. --TheNicestGuy 19:53, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

It's not *that* close. Here's a comparison between the two:

sbemailsongs.jpg

(Note that Strong Bad swings the eighth notes, so it comes out less stiff than what I wrote down. Still, this should be pretty accurate.)

-invisible_map

I felt it was very similar in both rhythm and tone (especially the slight rise at "SCAN-dal") to the chorus of the song "Give It Away" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, from their Blood Sugar Sex Magik album, which is why I originally put it there. Could anyone who happens to know that song confirm/deny this? I could be wrong :P - Stele 09:14, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
It does bear a similarity to that song, as well as others. It's TTATOT. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 10:08, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
I actually think there's a slight nod to the lyrics to "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys. USBDongleGoblin 21:57, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Music

Can anyone make out what the lyrics are to the song playing in Club Technochocolate? It sounds like "soft drink" or something...

I was wondering this too. — Defender1031*Talk 20:32, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
It sounds like 'soft driiink..... seize a soft driink....'but i cant tell what the low part is. Sublimimal(dont know how to spell this) messaging?-- AWMPSCE T-E 20:39, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
I imagine they'll put it up as a QotW later, but for now my Rorschach answer is "Palm trees. See the palm trees." --TheNicestGuy 21:13, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Salt Dream. She's a salt dream. -Alex H.
Had an anony update the page saying that it's "sloshy". I removed it. I feel dumb that I typed "other people here other lyrics" since I obviously meant "hear" .. sigh .. well, I have no idea what they're singing. OptimisticFool 01:51, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
When I first heard it, I thought it sounded like Coach Z's impersonation of the Geddup Noise... I know it's not that, but it's making me think it's going "Reeeerrr, reeeeerr!" I honestly can't hear anything legible (??) in that garglemesh either. ZanderSchubert 02:21, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Intelligible? Yeah, me either. OptimisticFool 02:38, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Reminded me of Homestar's "Party! Pizza party!" song from the tune of it, but those clearly aren't the lyrics. Octan 16:57, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Hmm. It's kind of weird how so many people heard different things. It sounded like "Slushy, she's a slushy." To me Biscuithead1293 22:23, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
My guess was "Star scream- hear the star scream." -James E.
I heard "Brother in a jar" no, wait.... (actually, to me it was just unintelligible, so I can't help) DAGRON 15:12, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
I hear "Haldo, Happy T, Tasteball." — Defender1031*Talk 22:50, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Wow! That's a lot of references! That's gotta be what it is. I'll go add it to Inside Refs right now! -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 02:58, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I hope YK isn't serious... It almost looks like TBC heard our confusion. Check out the new QotW. 71.231.56.40 21:47, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Of course he's not serious. And TBC do that all the time. Almost scary how they do that. --DorianGray 21:52, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Heh, yeah. I was just playing along with DeFender (see the edit summaries for our two odd comments here). I actually fully expected to see this song make it as a Quote of the Week, though. It's in the background, there's confusion over it, and it's a song. Perfect Quote of the Week material. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 23:15, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Has anyone noticed that, nine out of ten, when there's a line that there's confusion about, it gets QotW'd? -GG Crono 23:13, 13 December 2007 (UTC)'
Yes, it happens with eerie frequency. They've also used Sketchbook captions to answer questions, too. At least once. --DorianGray 04:46, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
i think it should be pointed out now that the music has been posted as the QotW that the music in the email isn't exactly the same, namely that the singers move between lines differently, and the second singer says "don't have another round" instead of just "don't", so the transcript should probably reflect that --Zatchman 15:57, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Nope, you're wrong. ^_^ Danny Lilithborne 13:12, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
About what? the fact that they sing the lines in the different order, or that the transcript should reflect that? just saying i'm wrong just pisses me off. give a reason. --Zatchman 19:46, 16 December 2007 (UTC):
The robots just sing "don't". Danny Lilithborne 08:21, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
No... in the QOTD, they just sing don't. But in the e-mail, check frames 1548~1638. They appear to be saying something like "don't have another round" or "definitely not another round." [Nebulon] 19:06, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
DorianGray, when have they used the sketchbook? Just curious. -GardenBoy 20:02, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Bozar's first line in best thing was a mystery until the sketchbook captioned "riddle me twice, limolosers" was released. --DorianGray 21:02, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
...which, unfortunately, it... still doesn't sound like to me. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 06:12, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Drive-Thru

I kind of thought that including the whale on the fast-food bag really removed a lot of the strangeness from "Drive-Thru," because at least we know now that actual food can be ordered from this "whale," or that there's more of them in FC. THE President 21:05, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Maybe he got takeout. --DorianGray 21:07, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Drive-Thru Whale

Should we include the Drive-Thru Whale as a charcter?--ONESTOP 21:08, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Nope, a picture is not an appearance. — Defender1031*Talk 21:11, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Chicken Melt

I found this under real-world references--

 • The "Crispy Chicken Melt" and its spicy variety are a reference to Burger King's Tendercrisp Chicken sandwich.

I thinks this is TTATOT, because every fast food restaurant in existence has some variety of chicken melt. Shall we remove it? -- Nevadie 21:40, 10 December 2007 (UTC) Yeah, sorry, my bad. I just thought too quickly without analyzing the situation. THE President 22:14, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

I thought it was the Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich at Jack in the Box. Awexome 22:28, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
I was thinking that it was a reference to the way fast food restaurants keep changing their sandwiches just a bit to make them a different kind of sandwich. Like how Arby's (or maybe it was Jack in the Box) has both a crispy chicken sandwich and a spicy chicken sandwich. Homestar-Winner (talk) 01:34, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
For the ignorant Aussie: what's a chicken melt, and how is it different from a chicken burger? ZanderSchubert 02:25, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
See Melt sandwich. OptimisticFool 02:44, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! ZanderSchubert 03:41, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

I thought about the 4th Meal radio ad for Taco Bell where the food is trying to get into a club. Taranch-V 08:18, 11 December 2007 (CST)
I thought of the Fourth-Meal ad before i even saw the sbemail and was reading the transcript. If not, it's probably a reference to the fact that tons of Fast Food places have recently been unveiling "New Spicy Chicken Fahita wrap!" "New Crispy Chicken Melt" and all that.-GardenBoy 19:56, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Signoff

Is it worth mentioning in the article that Strong Bad has a 'until next time' style message on the end of this email, and that it's done in the style of a radio announcer signing off? (possible inside reference to local news?) -StarLion 00:43, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bubs's arms!

Did anybody notice that Bub's arms were done with shape tweening?! Thats... different. --Mysterious Mysterio.

I totally did. I wasn't sure, but my first thought was that this new, curvier movement was used here for the first time. If it persists it might merit a mention on Bubs's page, but for now I don't know that it's significant enough to include here—but that's just my opinion. —I-don't-sign-these-things-but-Anonymous-Contributor-was-taken McGee

I noticed this as well. Whether or not Bubs's arms have changed for good, I do think it's a striking enough change to warrant a mention in the Remarks section of this email. --Lukeonia1 06:30, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

I definitely noticed the difference in the animation of Bubs's arms, too. It's pretty striking, I agree. DAGRON 13:54, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pwawty Cloughb

My edit referencing a previous email concerning pronounciation of "club" was reverted. See here. maybe I need to discuss on here first... Sneakernets 04:12, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

My first inclination is to agree that it's a coincidence, but then I don't know anything about 50 Cent... Trey56 04:35, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
My 2 cents: Is it really a unique pronounciation that you can attribute only/first to 50 Cent? Somehow I doubt it. -StarLion 04:38, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
well, no of course, but The first reference to "da club" or "cloughb" as it is now, was from extra plug, and referenced AGAIN in disconnected, so maybe this is another running gag in the works. Sneakernets 19:06, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
It's not really much of a gag, though. And it could just as easily be SB's way of pronouncing the word (remember, he does have something of an accent).

[edit] Cinnamon stubble

It looks like Homestar has his cinnamon stubble again in this one. In the transcript, it just observes that he's "unshaved." I'm not entirely sure this is accurate, as HSR has never actually, to my knowledge, said that he shaves, and I'm pretty certain that he said he doesn't. I'm too lazy and tired to find the email where this happens, though. Anyways, should the transcript be changed to acknowledge the cinnamon-ness, or should it be pointed out as a running joke in the remarks section? Or is it understood at this point that anytime HSR has stubble that it's cinnamon, and thus it need not be mentioned? Nightsong81 09:17, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Add a link to cinnamon somewhere in, like, remarks or inside refs, and we're all... fine. --DorianGray 09:35, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm not so sure about this "cinnamon" thing anymore, to be honest. Sneakernets 19:09, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Could you clarify what you mean, a little bit? OptimisticFool 19:14, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My Goof

Somebody removed this goof I put on the page: In the first dancing scene, Marzipan's mouth is in it's old style. Someone also removed my image of Marzi's mouth. Can we discuss this first? SuperfieldCreditUnion

As I said when I removed it: "See Marzipan Evolution; her old mouth is used from time to time, so we can't assume it's a goof." OptimisticFool 19:13, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
But under Remarks in Fall Float Parade, it mentions Marzipan's old mouth. SuperfieldCreditUnion

[edit] Name and place

I cannot find evidence of a Josh, Colorado, but the sender would have written two names for himself if Josh is his name. Does anyone thinks they has the solution? --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 00:48, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

I think "Somekindaguy" is somehow his closing. --DorianGray 04:56, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
 • I agree with the last remark. Some people just don't include a last name, and if i were to use a weird word and then name my town as "Josh", i'd probably notice that it looks like Josh is my name and make a bracketed remark, à la Jody (not a girl). —Jody (Bulldozer)

[edit] Eye goof

Can someone check on this: I thought I noticed some weirdness going on with SB's eyes when he walks up to SM. Like, the sizes aren't the same. Maybe I'm making it up, but I know that kinda thing has happened before. Speaking of which, does anyone know what would cause it? — DAGRON (Talk | contribs) 15:12, 12 December 2007 (left unsigned)

The glare on Strong Bad's left eye just looks a little lower and to the center than normal, maybe just because of the perspective. 64.198.255.1 19:17, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sleepwalking Explanation

Ummm....K. Why come there is an explanation for sleepwalking? I mean really? Really? Hmph-GardenBoy 20:25, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

You'd be surprised what some people don't know. --DorianGray 21:00, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

well, according to wikipedia, "A common misconception is that sleepwalking is an individual acting out the physical movements within a dream, but in fact sleepwalking occurs earlier on in the night when rapid eye movement (REM), or the "dream stage" of sleep, has not yet occurred."

[edit] S to the B

If I remember correctly, this is the second email in which Strong Bad is addressed as S to the B. Is this correct or am I crazy? Orangeslice 03:46, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

You are quite correct (but that doesn't necessarily mean you can't also be crazy =3 ). The other, I believe, is extra plug. --DorianGray 04:01, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, but it doesn't belong on the page, as it's not TBC making the reference, and furthermore, it's not even referencing something TBC did... I have removed it. — Defender1031*Talk 13:06, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Interesting though that both times an "S to the B" email has been answered, it involved/revolved around Club Technochocolate... StarLion 01:55, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Backwards Club Sign Goof

At around frame 1399, when Bubs is flipping over, to the upper right you can briefly see the "ate" of the "Club Technochocolate" logo. It has been flipped horizontally from the image that was on the left, earlier.

Is this goof-worthy enough for inclusion? It could always be a, um...really big mirror.

[Nebulon] 17:52, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Clarification of Music Lyrics

While I was here, I noticed that in the music thread above, someone raised the point that the bot's lyrics from e-mail to qotd are different. Listen to frames ~1549-1639 (it's the scene with Bubs the bartender selling Strong Bad a Pink Elephant Pants for $17.50). From playing those frames, the bot is clearly saying something a lot longer than "don't" in the e-mail.

Singer: Have another round...
Bot: <garglemesh> another round...
Singer: Have another round...
Bot: <garglemesh> another round...

Anybody figure out what the garglemesh is? The vowels sound something like "death not need another round" but I'm sure the consonants are different...[Nebulon] 19:06, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Underwear

Didn't Strong Bad say he didn't wear underwear in New Boots, but he has them now? Shouldn't this go on the remarks section? — Tojo940 (Talk | contribs) 21:42, 29 December 2007 (UTC) (left unsigned)

It has been shown several times that Strong Bad does wear underwear before now. It's pretty much chalked up to another instance of Strong Bad lying. PS, sign your posts. --StarLion 22:05, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually, it's just an inconsistency. And New Boots is the only time when Strong Bad says he doesn't wear underwear, and several occasions in which he has worn them. Homestar-Winner (talk) 22:12, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Reverse Subliminal?

Should it be mentioned that in the "Smart Drinks" song. The main lyrics and the subliminal lyrics are the wrong way round? MJN SEIFER 19:02, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "Don't be so hard on yourself"

 • I know a joke loses its humor if it has to be explained, but can someone explain how Strong Mad's line is supposed to be a joke? ^.^ Danny Lilithborne 11:20, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
His saying that makes it sound like Strong Bad was calling himself a greasy bag of fast food. Comedy at its finest, no? Homestar-Winner (talk) 14:31, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pink Elephant

Anybody else think that the drink Bubs gives Strong Bad is named after the Pink Elephants scene from Dumbo? You know, the one where Dumbo gets drunk and then he starts hallucinating about pink elephants. The great Reversinator!

That's what I thought too at first, but it's probably just referencing the cocktail.
What cocktail? — Defender1031*Talk 05:24, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Whatever the case, Dumbo did not invent the concept of seeing pink elephants. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 05:29, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Sloshy?

Does anyone else think that sloshy might be singing the song in the club? Sloshy is known for having one of their members repeat lines in a monotone, just like in this song.

Even if there's no way to confirm it, it doesn't really sound like sloshy's style of song. --DorianGray 05:16, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Blubb-O's Whale

Should this sbemail be listed in the filmography for the Blubb-O's Drive-Thru-Whale?

Non-voiced non-appearances (i.e. images, photos, etc.) probably shouldn't count towards a character's filmography. Any further posts about where such a thing is counted (e.g. your friends) should probably be changed. --DorianGray 07:25, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
