Bug?

Maybe this was already said, but I really think Strong Mad says "THIS BUG IS TOO LONG", since his waffle says BUG on it. You know Strong Mad.

Quite Good

A quite good e-mail. Strong Bad and Coach Z's rapping was fantastic, and we get to see Strong Sad's nerdy image develop a lot. Look out for his CD in an easter egg. 4.66/5 - 82.37.217.206

Transcript Production

Anyone working on the transcript? If not, I'll take a shot at it. →FireBird

I was working on the transcript, but it didn't save. I'm guessing you were working on it. --StarWarsMonkey :-)

Hey, I'm a long time reader, first time Wiki...pedier? And I was wondering, when a transcript says {Incomplete}, should I let whoever is editing finish it (assuming he or she is working on it currently), or do I have permission to jump all up into the fracas? GillanTheVillain 11:32, 11 Apr 2005 (EST)

You have permission, but you might not want to intervere if you aren't expierenced. --Joshua 09:40, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)

I usually don't like it when someone interrupts a Transcript I'm in the middle of writing, personally (for long pants a couple of weeks ago, I specified NOT to edit it until I was finished and someone put their own mistake-riddled version in anyway.) But since Joshua didn't specify, and since he didn't really continue from the rap scene, I went ahead and finished it myself - hope mine isn't the mistake-riddled one! (Though I've checked it a coupla times now and I or someone else fixed the major mistakes I made.) I didn't check the Discussion page. PS. Don't add one line at a time. Watch the SWF file and right-click to use the Play and Back commands so you can go at a good pace. --Jay 09:44, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)

That's why the "Edit" button is there. So you can edit mistakes. --Gafaddict 14:48, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)
True, but I've grown to dislike the words "Edit Conflict". --Jay 14:53, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)

I do transcripts and large edits in notepad, then copy and paste to the window. That way, I don't encounter edit conflicts much. Aurora the Homestar Coder 15:07, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)

Eh..

Is it me, or is TBC's sense of humor slightly waning? Rudeboy87 08:23, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)

It's just you. -- Joshua 09:40, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)

A Running Gag?

I've noticed that almost every time Strong Bad comments on a fan's spelling he makes a spelling or grammer mistake of his own. Anyone else think this constitutes a running gag?

Legal Rampage??

I didn't really understand the legal rampage part. What's a sub-po-enal? And what does "I summon 4B to my chambers" mean? -Please don't call me dumb, MFCUSA

"Sub-po-ena" is Strong Bad pronouncing subpoena the way it's spelled. The whole line is a lame attempt to recreate the language used by lawyers without actually understanding what words like "summons" and "chambers" actually refer to. I imagine Strong Bad got it from the Litigation Jackson movies. It's really quite similar to his attempts to mimic middle english, book reviews, and rap without really understanding any of them. PolarBoy

Thanks dude. That makes it a whole lot funnier! - MFCUSA

  • Since when did this kind of humor, which uh.. seems kind of Standard for H*R and Brothers Chaps become 'lame'? Seemed hillarious to me and just about everyone else. --Heebrewhammer23
    • You're misreading - Strong Bad doesn't get legal language, so he's making a lame attempt at repeating it. The joke isn't lame, Strong Bad's understanding is. --Jay 06:24, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hip Hop correction

Got rid of "*"Spoken Word...Is Bond" could be a reference to the trailers from some of the early Bond films, which often mentioned "007 is Bond" an excruciating number of times" because it's clearly NOT-- it's a reference to "word is bond", meaning "my word is my bond," and this has been uttered by many rappers over the years. Google "word is bond" site:ohhla.com to see over 300 citations. -AP

What are you talking about? There's no "bond" anywhere in this email. --Jay 17:08, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)
Okay, okay, never mind. The fact WAS added by someone and it WAS in reference to something actually in the email (the Strong Sad CD Easter Egg). Anyway, good for you, but you didn't really need to note it here unless someone kept trying to re-add it after you deleted it. --Jay 17:17, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)

Chicken Soup Reference

Under Real World references, it lists Soup, Right? as a reference to Chicken Soup for the Soul. Just because they both have soup in the title doesn't mean it's a reference. Can anyone back this point up further, or are you just going on basis of the Soup in the title? If that's the only basis, I think that should be deleted. --DMurphy 15:28, 12 Apr 2005 (MDT)

Marzipan Stuttering

I see that the transcript lists what Marzipan says as "Jeff Chaucerbury." But that's not what I'm hearing - she's saying "Jeff Chaucer would be would be proud." Someone else has mentioned this strange stutter/glitch/loop as a fun fact, too...

Sure sounds like "would be would be" to me! Can we STUFF a transcript debate? -- tomstiff 11:07, 13 Apr 2005 (MDT)

I thought "would be would be" too - it used to be that way in the transcript thanks to my edit. "Chaucerbury" does make some logical sense, as H*R goes, at any rate. But at the same time, I don't really hear "Chaucerbury" even now that I'm listening for it. Would they really have Marzipan say "would be would be"? --Jay 11:14, 13 Apr 2005 (MDT)

Well, I changed it back. However, Chaucerbury (i.e. Chaucer + Canterbury) would be pretty funny! -- tomstiff 11:22, 13 Apr 2005 (MDT)

Yeah, I definitely heard "would be would be" too. I was like "what??" And then I thought it might, JUST MIGHT, be a very vague reference to Justin Corcoran from extra plug. (I know it's a bit of a stretch, but that's what came to mind...) -Miss Free Country USA

I Google-searched the phrase "would be would be" and it came up with over 11'000 results, including many in documents from people who would otherwise know better. It's possible that it may be a figure of speech, or even a perfectly acceptable English phrase, or maybe the repetition is a reference to Chaucer somehow. If it were just a mistake there would probably be far, far fewer results. --Tweek

I realise this has been inactive for a while, but sounds to me, due to the different way in which each "would be" is said, that it may just be a bad cut between two takes of the sound recording DumbMuscle 13:04, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

The R in Routine.

It has to be a direct reference to morning routine in which Strong Sad keeps interupting him after he says:

The "R" in routine stands for r—

Then Strong sad asks him about the eggs. It seems crystal clear to me but what do you guys think?

It's so crystal clear that it's already on the page - check the "Inside References portion of Fun Facts. --Jay 02:47, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

i still dont got

"KING OF TOWN: Oops, you lost me!"

i believe this is a a quote out of the movie "fight club" when tyler is getting his head beatin in and he doesnt fighting back

I haven't seen Fight Club so I can't say for certain, but unless the "oops, you lost me" quote comes up in that context, I don't think this is anything more than a coincidence. --Jay 03:57, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Closed STUFF

Laugh and grow fat (DECLINED)

This is the first time we've ever heard Coach Z actually laugh.

  • Not even. The first time, as far as I know, was in labor day. Rudeboy87 16:23, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Marzipan's Speech Impediment (ACCEPTED)

Marzipan seems to stutter uncharacteristically during the phrase "would be proud."

      • Comment True, but it's not immediately obvious to the casual reader. It could easily be overlooked or mistaken for a typo. Beatfox 06:39, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

    • Second with a side of DECLINE! Sounded more like a simple flash goof to me. Nothing worth noting. Donny vs Universe
      • Comment Whatever it is, it's not a glitch. I checked it out in a sound editor. Not only are the two "would be's" unique, they make up one continuous phrase. There's no discontinuity in the waveform, and the tone of voice transitions seamlessly. Beatfox 03:14, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • Comment. -- I believe it's worth noting on a few counts. First, it's unusual for TBC to make this kind of goof. Second, it verifies what people believe they've heard. Third, it prevents people from trying to read into the dialog what's just not there (e.g. Geoff Chaucerbury). There! I doubt I swayed any of the Decliners, but I've had my say! -- tomstiff 19:17, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Accept but Move. Given that close analysis of the sound track has revealed that this is an actual occurance and not a glitch, it should be taken as valid, but perhaps would be best left as part of the transcript. --The Real Zajac 15:15, 17 Apr 2005
  • Comment. Apparently, some less-informed person decided to correct this "typo" in the transcript. I have restored it and added an HTML comment to ward off such attempts in the future... whatever happened to the comment that was there before? In any case, we should at least have something on the page to point out this oddity. Beatfox 04:35, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • Because someone changed it to "Chaucerbury", we talked about it, agreed it was wrong, and the person who changed it back didn't put back the comment. --Jay 12:33, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • meh I dunno... it seems like a goof to me. Out of place.
  • Comment Did anyone else find it funny that Marzipan stopped smiling as Homsar stopped his AaAaAaAa...? I thought that was funny.
    • Yes, I noticed - but what does that have to do with this fact? --Jay 06:53, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Strong Sad, Charles Barkley, and Ruben Studdard...long lost triplets? (DECLINED)

Strong Bad's insult of "round mound of gray fatness" toward Strong Sad could be derived in part from the nickname of former NBA player Charles Barkley, the "Round Mound of Rebound." Also, Ruben Studdard, who won American Idol in 2003 and bears more than a slight resemblance to Strong Sad in shape, is sometimes known as the "Round Mound of Sound."

  • Decline. Before Jay gets to it: This, that, and the other... If it's been used more than once elsewhere, it's not a specific reference, and therefore, unnecessary. --TheEggman 12:09, 12 Apr 2005 (MDT)
    • Well, this is two unrelated things, and (if it's true) exactly one of them is it, but we don't know which. Not EXACTLY the same thing as my usual "this that and the other thing" complaint -- but -- it's too much of a stretch in either case without some extra info, so I do have to agree with Decline-ing it. --Jay 23:47, 12 Apr 2005 (MDT)
  • Decline. Barkley and Ruben don't even look alike, much less Strong Sad. 20:52, --ISlayedTheKerrek 12 Apr 2005 (MDT)
  • Comment. A little Googling shows that Kenny Price was the first Round Mound of Sound, way back in 1969. -- tomstiff 09:17, 13 Apr 2005 (MDT)
  • Decline. Is the SB's insult of the "Round Mound of [something that rhymes with round and mound]" type? Of course it is. Is it notable? Given that the reference has been around for at least 36 years, probably not. -- tomstiff 09:17, 13 Apr 2005 (MDT)
  • Decline. Strong Sad is round, a mound, gray, and fat. The only thing Strong Bad's insult is a reference to is Strong Sad's appearance. Can you streeeeeeeeetch? -- mibluvr13 23:46, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Round Mound of Decline Does "Gray Fatness" rhyme with "Round" and "Mound?" SP'd

Having the _____-y _____ thing for a name isn't THAT uncommon - and in this sense, if you've got people coming up with three or more possible references, well then perhaps it's not actually a specific reference, and as such, it probably shouldn't be included. --TheEggman 23:05, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)

    • Except that "Soup, Right?" doesn't sound at all like Chicken Soup for the Soul, whereas "(Topic) for Jerks" is just like "(Topic) for Dummies".
  • Decline. Soup, Right? could be short for "Soup Done Right" or something like that. --TheEggman 13:20, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • DELORTED! That almost definitely doesn't have anything to do with anything. That's like saying "Sweatshirtguy" is a reference to Rocky.
  • Insert witty DECLINE comment here MAJOR STRETCH! Just cause they share the same word doesn't mean they're related. Wow. SP'd

    • I meant accept. Try to name other bestsellers with the words "soup" or "biscuit" in them. It seems clear to me that the titles aren't just random--they're either references to real books, real things (brown story), or HR references. The only thing that seems random to me is Strong Mad's waffle, which reads "BUG."--rsl12 21:18, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
      • I'm not convinced. It's still one word, and both words happen to be kinds of food. And I, for one, didn't even know "Seabiscuit" was a book til you mentioned it. Dasrik 00:06, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
      • FYI, the book "Seabiscuit" was a major bestseller even before the movie came out.

More Pie, Anyone? (Declined)

"The pie's the limit" may be refering to Strong Bad's wednesday pie motivational talks in other days.

  • Decline. Just because it contains "pie" doesn't necessarily mean it's a reference. And I don't like the "may be". Beatfox 22:54, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • I can't think of a Decline pun right now Well, in my opinion, it's just a play on "The Sky's The Limit." Pie is actually a pretty widely used running gag on H*R, including the pie motivational talks mentioned earlier, piemonade, etc. So if anything, this should be in some other section. SP

Poetic chops (Accepted)

Ironically, while Strong Sad glorifies iambic pentameter, his creation is a pretty bad example of it. He twists the stresses on "lyric rampage," properly pronounced LY-ric RAM-page (a pair of trochees), into ly-RIC ram-PAGE (a pair of iambs).

  • Decline. I agree with what you're saying. Also, it's not much of a rampage to be reciting at a rate of 2 syllables per second. However, I don't think anyone learns anything from this fun fact.--rsl12 15:53, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • Wait a Second!! Kvb 18:26, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • Absolutely not the case! I see what you're saying, but it's not the case. It's just the way he did it to the beat...you wouldn't pronounce it the same if you're doing it to a beat.TakuaKaita600 22:32, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • Comment. I hate to argue with someone on my side, but: Strong Sad says in the beginning, "Iambic pentameter is where it's at!" so then he proceeds to give a line of iambic pentameter (plus one "ummmmmm" in the middle). Yes it did match the beat, but it would be more accurate to say that the beat followed an iambic metric, and because strong sad rampaged in iambs, he matched the beat (though if he had waited half a beat before starting, he could have matched the rhythm with all trochees)--rsl12 01:31, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

It's a Bird, it's a Plane, it's Pie??? (Declined)

"The pie's the limit" is a reference to the quote, "The sky is the limit," which is found on Thorax Corporation's website.

rampage easter egg (Declined)

At the end of the SBEmail rampage, in the easter egg when you click on "rampage," Strong Mad chasing the Cheat monster looking thing (sorry I never played Rampage before) and yelling "My panties!! My panties!!" is a reference to the SBEmail morning routine.

  • Decline It's already mentioned on the page, and worded MUCH more cleanly. --Jay 02:42, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Oh oops. I missed that.
  • However, there is something else. In the Rampage easter egg, the Cheat looks like the Strong Badman version of himself, as shown in the Sketchbook on September 2, 2005.
  • Accept i guess It isn't often a big guy chases a little yellow guy yelling "my panties!" I think it is a reference. --user: Lappy 486

rampage

what exactly is a rampage, in this email, not the real meaning?

Nikolce Kocovski 06:03, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Guess What!!!

I SENT THIS EMAIW!! MEEEEE!!!!! I WAS THIS ONE ALL ALONG!!! Homfrog 00:43, 24 November 2005 (UTC)

Hate to sound like the sceptic here, but do you have any proof? --DorianGray

Really? You mean YOUR Peter Griffin!

Since When?

The emailer thinks that "it's been entirely too long since you went on a rampage." Has Strong Bad ever visibly been on any type of rampage before this email? The Coachsmith 21:06, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

Glitch'd

This toon, rampage has a glitch of Homsar's hat, so don't replace the glitch!!! Homicidal Runner (UTC)

Hot and hard hood

This word has been flipped around so many times since the email came out. SB's super-vague pronunciation doesn't help. Can we come to a consensus? I'm fine just leaving it "hood" since that fits best in the context IMHO. --Jaybor Day (Talk) 17:54, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Urban Dictionary describes "hood" as "someone who is or acts like they are from the ghetto", whereas "hard" is "tough, mostly because of poverty/family life/childhood." I'd think "hood" would be more suitable considering Strong Sad has just attempted to rap and used the words "Word up?", but why then would Strong Sad pronounce it as "hard"? – The Chort 20:57, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Reading Rainbow

since http://gpn.unl.edu/rainbow/ lead to a 404'd, changed link to http://pbskids.org/readingrainbow Wi2K Talk-Favorites-173 00:31, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

I feel like im in error here since http://gpn.unl.edu/rainbow/ just displayed on my contributing computer, however http://gpn.unl.edu/rainbow/ and http://pbskids.org/readingrainbow are on the same subject like (Reading Rainbow) which link should be the pre-dominate link? Wi2K Talk-Favorites-173 00:39, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
The GPN address isn't exactly right (I'm finding it at http://shopgpn.com/stores/1/RR_Index.cfm), but even if it were I think the PBS link is better because it is not selling stuff like the GPN site seems to be. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:19, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

I think that the reference to Reading Rainbow is a stretch. Wolf O'Donnel 08:58, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

Master of Ceremonies?

COACH Z: You're a real MC, Strong Sad! Master of ceremonies!

{Coach Z and Strong Bad laugh for a moment, until Strong Bad realizes what was just said.}

STRONG BAD: Er, wait...

I know Coach Z later states that he's bad with abbrieviations, but I'm not sure whether Strong Bad didn't get his "joke" or whether he said something disturbing like he usually does. Either that or I'm taking this too far into consideration... --Pretztailfan95 02:01, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Strong Bad reacted the way he did because he realised he was laughing at essentially nothing. --DorianGray 05:58, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Problems watching this?

Whenever I watch this toon, my browser crashes right after SB says "regal rampage". Everything stops moving, and the sound carries on for about two seconds, but then it all just disappears. I don't seem to be having trouble watching any other toons. Anyone else have this problem? Flicky1991 20:32, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Nazi reference?

When Strong Bad gets shocked by Coach Z using the abbreviation "SS" for Strong Sad, could it be because of the Schutzstaffel? --JohnnyLurg 20:30, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

No, Strong Bad was merely confused because Coach Z was talking like he was making a joke at Strong Sad's expense, but all he did was refer to Strong Sad by his actual name. --Jaybor Day (Talk) 21:06, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

Audio cutoff

Regarding this edit: Flash can store full sound clips in .fla files even if part of it is cut off in the timeline. As far as I know, .swf files work the same way, so that would explain the discrepancy between decompiling the file and loading it in Flash Player.
