A fantastic e-mail, very much like "personal favorities", but with real stuff in it. Nice to see clips of all 124 e-mails being combined together to make up "SBEMAIL: The Musical". Good job. Hope we see another storyline like this in the next three and a half years (or so). - 82.37.217.206

Yes I am a big Loony Tunes fan and I watch the cartoons all the time. Also doing a google search on speedy Arriba! will also prove my point. Now who's changed it back? I've more than proved my point?

The use of the word crackin' is listed under goofs, with the comment that maybe it was recorded but didn't make the final cut. However, after listening to fingers closely, I think it IS in there, but Strong Bad's voice is almost completely overpowered by the narrator's voice-over. I don't think this should be listed under goofs, but should be listed under remarks with the explanation like the one I just gave. Any thoughts? --eepiccolo 19:34, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Pig Latin
+
+
Regarding this and the next few edits: Strong bad does say "may". Not only can you listen to his words, but Wikipedia also shows that Pig Latin phrases do not always end in "nay" (it's the -ay that they all have in common). Pig Latin words are formed by moving the first consonant in the word to the end, then adding -ay. The consonant is not always an N. — 17:56, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
+
:It's "nay". It's SB being incompetent as to how to speak pig latin, and copying the "nay" again from "ixnay". 18:03, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
+
::How do we know he is incompetent in Pig Latin? In 50 emails, he says "at-may" just fine. — 18:23, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
+
:::Well explain to me why "may" makes sense then. 18:25, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
+
::::I think he's trying to finish his last word ("me") in Pig Latin, but fails (wouldn't it be emay?). That's as good an explanation I can give you. Plus, I hear "may". Not "I think I hear may" or "I can just barely hear may", I hear "may". So may. 18:27, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
+
:::::Because "me" in Pig Latin would be "e-may". Even though Strong Bad kept the M at the beginning, he still adds "may" properly. — 18:29, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Train wreck a-rollin' all night long?
+
+
Not sure if anyone noticed or suggested this, but there's a strong similarity between Strong Bad's line "Now let's get this train wreck a-rollin'!" and the song "Train Kept a-Rollin'", made famous by Aerosmith (and featured in the game Rock Band). The song has been around for a long time and was pretty popular (as is the band), though I only became aware of the song through the game. The song's lyrics include the line "Train kept a-rollin' all night long" repeated several times, but as far as I know, there are no other common elements between the song and this email. 19:55, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

It seems like a bit of a stretch without the "all night long" part, or at least some part with that sort of rhythm, because getting things a rolling is a pretty common phrase. --65.87.242.28 20:40, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Revision as of 00:42, 15 April 2019

Ding! rock opera is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

Initial Reaction

A fantastic e-mail, very much like "personal favorities", but with real stuff in it. Nice to see clips of all 124 e-mails being combined together to make up "SBEMAIL: The Musical". Good job. Hope we see another storyline like this in the next three and a half years (or so). - 82.37.217.206

P.S. The e-mail also reminded me of "virus".

The best email yet. -sesameseed 16:46, 22 Feb 2005 (MST)

Music

The music that begins after "Experience dance tonight!" bears a resemblance to that of "The Cheat Is Not Dead", does anyone agree? -Suicune64

Yes, but not enough so as to make it worth mentioning in the Fun Facts, sadly... --Shadow Hog 18:40, 22 Feb 2005 (MST)

I figured such, just trying to make sure I'm not hearing it incorrectly. On a similar note, does anyone agree that the music that begins during "Awkward peaches" sounds like the intro to Everybody to the Limit? It seems that TBC are making not only visual references but distinct musical ones, as well...-Suicune64

Especially since the Strong Bad saying "problematic" comes up during this time, as when he says it on the Strong Bad Sings version of Everybody to the Limit. - Kenzilla

I think it's similar/interesting/cool enough to be a fun fact-- Asploder

I think the bass part after experience dance tonight sounds like pachabel's canon.

Download?

Was there ever a download available for the song itself, similar to "different town"? --SigmaX54 02:45, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Nope. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 02:56, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
You took the words right outta my mouth HSR. (Literally, there was an edit conflict). Anyway, no, there never was. — talk Bubsty edits 02:57, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Speedy Gonzalez

Are you all sure that Speedy Gonzalez says his Arribas then his Andales? I'm fairly sure Strong Bad's got it right...

Yes I am a big Loony Tunes fan and I watch the cartoons all the time. Also doing a google search on speedy Arriba! will also prove my point. Now who's changed it back? I've more than proved my point?

"Grand"

I'm pretty sure that the voice that says "grand." is Powered-By-The-Cheat Homestar. --Homsar999 12:38, 24 Feb 2005 (CST)

I'm pretty sure you're wrong, because that word is from mile and the ONLY time "grand" is spoken by anyone in mile, it's PbTC Strong Bad. --Jay 11:59, 24 Feb 2005 (MST)
But then again, that comment was understandable since the Powered by the Cheat voices all sound very similar. →evin290 12:12, 24 Feb 2005 (MST)
This is true. Maybe I was a little more blunt than I meant to be - I do that sometimes. But it can be proved that it was Strong Bad, so we shouldn't put Homestar. --Jay 12:17, 24 Feb 2005 (MST)
I think they should put that in the goofs section. unknown
Why? I compared the two lines (between rock opera and mile) and it IS PbtC Strong Bad. That's all there is to it. --Jay 19:38, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Image Gallery

There should be info on all the scenes that are shown. --Aussie Evil 16:16, 3 Mar 2005 (MST)

I think there should be an image gallery which shows the images that go along with the lyrics. unknown

Oooh, ooh, that sounds like fun! *wants to go make images* :) (These would go on the Rock Opera Context page, though, not this page)Aurora Szalinski 12:14, 20 Mar 2005 (MST)

The pond

Is the pond that Dangeresque falls into the same pond from lures & jigs and montage?

Anonymous

Hey! I had an thought. A dumb one, albeit, but an thought, nevertheless. Could Strong Sad representing "Annoymous" be a reference for "Strong Bad is Jail"? He DID "annoynymously quip"...The Marauding Maniac 18:35, 9 Apr 2005 (MDT)

Error? (DECLINED)

On the newspaper clippin' of (Perhaps) The Deke's rave review, the word "of" is double-underlined, apparently by hand. Strong Bad appears to have noted that the word was not capitalized, and duly marked the error.

 • Decline. -- tomstiff 14:02, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
 • Decline Not only is it speculation, but it's factually inaccurate - prepositions should NEVER be capitalized in titles and slogans unless they are the first word (I've heard that you're always supposed to capitalize final words too, but I can't think of a case where an article, preposition, or conjunction - the three types of words left non-capitalized - would ever come up there.) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 20:39, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Pizza Pizzazz (Declined)

The appearance of a spinning pizza during the word "Pizzaz" may be a reference to the Pizzaz Pizza Oven, which rotates the pizza under a heating element to cook it.

 • Decline. I don't think that they were purposefully referencing the Pizzaz Pizza oven. The two words are just spelled similarly. (Also, there was a restaurant where I live called "Pizza Pizzazz," but you don't see me putting that down as a fun fact) :-) →evin290 10:02, 27 Feb 2005 (MST)

Rose-face/Rosebud (Declined)

When Strong Bad yells "Rose face!" it could be a possible reference to Citizen Kane and the famous "Rosebud."

 • Weak Decline. Felt this was a bit of a stretch, though I did wonder if it was a reference myself. Still, "Rosebud" is the last dying whisper of Citizen Kane, while Rose-face is anything BUT whispered. --TheEggman 16:50, 2 Mar 2005 (MST)

Another brick in the wall (Declined)

At the end of the opera, the cast is on a stage, where the bottom of the stage is a white bricked wall with blue brick outlines. This might be a refrence to the popular rock opera The Wall, by Pink Floyd, as the wall in the Floyd's opera is the same. MajorB 17:07, 23 Feb 2005 (MST)

 • Comment Just because it's already shown doesn't mean it's not a reference. --acekirby13 19:17, 24 Mar 2005 (MST)

I don't not dislike not this fact

Strong Bad technically asked The Cheat to throw another rose at him. "Ixnay" in Pig Latin translates to "nix", meaning "cut it out" or "stop". Therefore, the whole phrase constituted a double negative meaning "continue throwing roses at me."

Table-In-Transcript

I'm not really sure if I like this table in the transcript. It makes it very hard to read and looks a little oogly. Maybe we could stick the actions on another page, like Rock Opera Context? →FireBird

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, although I think the information is good. A separate page would probably be best. I'll work on it. -- Joshua 16:05, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Visuals and Word Context

Why don't we combine the Rock Opera Context and Rock Opera Visuals pages and add pictures for each visual that occurs and then a picture of where it was said in the email that it came from? Poopsmith Z

I think it's fine the way it is. And we don't want 125 pictures. -- Joshua 11:20, 15 May 2005 (UTC)

For you people who don't think the words are in order, use a benchmark of a certain word you know and count the words from it. Then watch the email in the same number in the same direction. you'll find it. Poofy

I might sound crazy,

but does anyone think the sentences that Strong Bad made up could have a deeper meaning? I mean, they're just words from every email, but you could never know... -Kinsey

Goof fixed?

I have listened to rock opera more than I probably should and I have noticed that the goof that occurs when you listen to the song through the "Encore!" button isn't there anymore. Am I just imagining this or is it really fixed? -- Frickinsellout 12:45, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I'm listening on a Wii and I still hear it. So, as far as I'm concerned, goof not fixed. SuperfieldCreditUnion

Cast list

Should I add Tiny-Handed Strong Bad in the cast list? He's a formal character now. 2Fast2Furious 12:36, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, what do you think, guys? 2Fast2Furious 15:50, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

 • Hmm... I suppose I shouldn't add him to the cast list. He is a formal character now, but he wasn't when this email came out. 2Fast2Furious 22:19, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Crackin' not a goof?

The use of the word crackin' is listed under goofs, with the comment that maybe it was recorded but didn't make the final cut. However, after listening to fingers closely, I think it IS in there, but Strong Bad's voice is almost completely overpowered by the narrator's voice-over. I don't think this should be listed under goofs, but should be listed under remarks with the explanation like the one I just gave. Any thoughts? --eepiccolo 19:34, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing this up. I fully believe that it was recorded but the audio of that sound layer was turned down until the narrator stopped talking. I will reword it and move it. —BazookaJoe 19:41, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Chekt

There is a reference to Chekt, but I doubt it's one of the first 125 sbemails. --68.145.103.189 20:58, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Do you mean, another reference to Chekt? TheYellowDart(t/c) That's in sbemail #124 secret recipes.
Actually, I believe it's mentioned in Fun Facts, under Inside References. Bluebry 21:01, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Pig Latin

Regarding this and the next few edits: Strong bad does say "may". Not only can you listen to his words, but Wikipedia also shows that Pig Latin phrases do not always end in "nay" (it's the -ay that they all have in common). Pig Latin words are formed by moving the first consonant in the word to the end, then adding -ay. The consonant is not always an N. — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 17:56, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

It's "nay". It's SB being incompetent as to how to speak pig latin, and copying the "nay" again from "ixnay". — Defender1031*Talk 18:03, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
How do we know he is incompetent in Pig Latin? In 50 emails, he says "at-may" just fine. — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 18:23, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Well explain to me why "may" makes sense then. — Defender1031*Talk 18:25, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
I think he's trying to finish his last word ("me") in Pig Latin, but fails (wouldn't it be emay?). That's as good an explanation I can give you. Plus, I hear "may". Not "I think I hear may" or "I can just barely hear may", I hear "may". So may. Bluebry 18:27, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Because "me" in Pig Latin would be "e-may". Even though Strong Bad kept the M at the beginning, he still adds "may" properly. — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 18:29, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Objection to Last Revision: 124 EMails Not 125

I just want to point out that context SBEMAIL is the context for e-mail 125. It should also be noted that when making a collage/compilation of past to current, you can always have the current sbemail in itself; especially since "SBEMAIL!!!" is part of the song, and is number 125. ColdReactive

"Unnecessary Onomatopœia"

I added the onomatopœia of Strong Bad singing his intro song backwards, which I interpreted as: Aah smebdeluda gemta crem nina greschdt. Then, my edit was quickly reverted by MichaelXX2. Do tell, what was bad with having the onomatopœia in there? And if we can't have it in the transcript, could it be a fun fact? Homestar Sumpreme, 64.9.42.139 11:34, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Train wreck a-rollin' all night long?

Not sure if anyone noticed or suggested this, but there's a strong similarity between Strong Bad's line "Now let's get this train wreck a-rollin'!" and the song "Train Kept a-Rollin'", made famous by Aerosmith (and featured in the game Rock Band). The song has been around for a long time and was pretty popular (as is the band), though I only became aware of the song through the game. The song's lyrics include the line "Train kept a-rollin' all night long" repeated several times, but as far as I know, there are no other common elements between the song and this email. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 19:55, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

It seems like a bit of a stretch without the "all night long" part, or at least some part with that sort of rhythm, because getting things a rolling is a pretty common phrase. --65.87.242.28 20:40, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

fun fact

"When Strong Bad's typing starts going awry as The Cheat is throwing roses at him, he types "the chicks" as "teh chekts", a reference to the immediately preceding Strong Bad email secret recipes." Shouldn't this be in the "fast forward" section? 67.183.216.25 01:50, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

No, because "Fast Forward" is used when the toon the article is about is referenced later, not when it references something in a previous toon. Heimstern Läufer 01:53, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
