Hitting "Tab" on the final screen, I see something highlighted around the "I", but nothing happens when I try to activate it. This isn't the TV show egg. Just a Flash artifact? --Jay stuck at home (Talk) 08:53, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

I noticed it too. I think it's just a mistake. Shwoo 08:54, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
There is a button there, but there's no script attached to it. --phlip TC 08:56, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Why do I have a feeling they're going to add an easter egg later and it's going to involve DNA evidence?--Bobo the King 09:03, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
That wouldn't surprise me much, actually. >_> --Jay stuck at home (Talk) 09:07, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Maybe an easter egg there will talk aabout DNA Evidence. Homestar-Winner (talk) 09:41, 7 May

DNA Evidence

Just one more email until we reach 173 AND this one didn't have any DNA Evidence in it, Whats Up?--Slipstream 09:14, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Personally, if they had continued the gag after the last reference, I would've been very surprised. Additionally, this might be better on the forum. --DorianGray 09:18, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
And just by the way, 173-171=2, not 1. DeFender1031 15:45, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, but we have only one email to go before 173. 171, 172, then 173. ยค The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 19:24, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

You Reek-A Guy

Is it me or does the "You Reek-A" guy on the t-shirt look like John Flansburgh? - SLR

I don't think so. I mean, he's got glasses and dark hair, but that's about the extent of it. EYanyo 14:34, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Actually, that's what I was thinking... ShiversTheNinja 15:35, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

He's an expoit!

This is at least the third of fourth time that Strong Bad has used that - I don't know what to call it (New York?) - accent. Should it get its own page maybe? And what would such a page be called? EYanyo 14:35, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Spider-Man 3

This fact was removed, but I really think it's true:

The front page story on Da NewsPapes reads, in part, "Global relations set all types of box office records this weekend. Studio execs were encouraged by the turn-around." This is most likely a reference to Spider-Man 3, which premiered on the weekend before this email was released and broke the records for both the highest single-day and opening weekend box office earnings.

Spider-Man 3 was pretty big news this weekend; I don't think it's a coincidence. Trey56 14:47, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

I still think it could be TTATOT. DeFender1031 15:32, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
What do you think the "that" and the "other thing" are? Trey56 15:41, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Any other box office hit ever. DeFender1031 15:42, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I see. On the other hand, this particular movie uniquely fits the data due to (1) its release time (this very weekend), (2) box office success (best-selling movie ever on opening weekend), (3) the response from studio execs (I even read quotes yesterday from Sony pictures execs in's story about this weekend), and (4) the effect that this movie is expected to have on the entire industry ("turn-around"). Yes, there have been previous big box office hits, but I think that the timing and the other connections are too strong to ignore. Trey56 15:50, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
The article specifically mentions "global relations" as setting records, not any sort of movie. Granted, they did say "box office," but that just goes to show you how random the articles are. It's simply too ridiculous of a paragraph to be worth a reference, in my humble opinion. --Lux Acerbus 23:06, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Coke is it

Strong Bad refers to the beverage Coke, but as of right now it's not listed in the real-world references. Is that because it's too obvious? Do we still make that distinction? — It's dot com 15:13, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

For me, it falls into the obvious-enough category; but it wouldn't upset me if somebody thought it was necessary to include in the article. Trey56 15:32, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes, too obvious it is. And sound like yoda just now did i. DeFender1031

There's a song by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention titled "Let's Make the Water Turn Black," which may also be relevant. 19:44, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Doubt it. DeFender1031 19:46, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
TTATOT Zerlock1124

Does the water have anything to do with the alien symbiote from Spiderman 3, which premiered this weekend? Very stuffable. KanineKommander 23:00, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

I think that the black water could be making a joke about boats. If you pull the cap on a big ship (Much like the plug in the little door to the fuel "chamber" on the side of your car. If either of them are open while the engine is running, oil or gas might leak out. Wiremeup13579 23:00, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

You guys, it's that creepy stuff that was pouring down his face when he held an eyeball pear!! Probably a 5th-element reference.
I thought that at first too! I compared the color, though, and the coffee in alternate universe is definitely browner than the sludge this time around. Trey56 00:22, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

off-topic, who thinks it'd be cool if the word that was clickable in the e-mail was (in the article) clickable, and linked to the corresponding part of the easter-eggs section?

That'd be kinda cool. Oh, and sign your things, Annonymous Contributor. Visorbot 386 01:47, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Nuuu! *throws a tantrum* I don't WANnnaa! ><

Mrs. Hardmaster

I'm a little curious about Mrs. Hardmaster. Strong Bad says he's going to try to get her fired for child abuse, but who is Mrs. Hardmaster being referenced to in the real world?

Uh... probably no one in particular? She's a hard master, hence the name, and the concept of overbearing or even abusive teachers is not something that's only come up just once. --Jay stuck at home (Talk) 17:16, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Senor Cardgage soundalike?

When Strong Bad starts talking in his "forced" manner in the second-to-last paragraph of the email, he sounds a lot like Senor Cardgage. Anyone else pick this up? — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 19:28, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Once again, they're all voiced by the same guy. There's gonna be some overlap. They can ALL be said to sound like each other. DeFender1031 19:29, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
That's not my point. It's patently obvious that Senor Cardgage and Strong Bad are voiced by the same person, and even sound much like each other. My point is that in this specific place, Strong Bad sounds almost EXACTLY like Senor Cardgage, in terms of the way he speaks, his inflection and nasal tone, etc. It sounded almost exactly like Senor Cardgage's appearance in Senor Mortgage. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 19:36, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Except that he actually speaks in a higher-pitched voice than Cardgage usually does. --Jay stuck at home (Talk) 19:52, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Hence his not sounding exactly like Senor Cardgage. I'm just mentioning that it sounds like he's either imitating or referencing him. Whatever. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 21:43, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
It's not a senor cardgage reference, it's just strong bad doing a reading-a-boring-essay voice. firstly, Senor Cardgage's voice is more breathy, and secondly he makes no sense when he talks while the "essay" portion of the email is very logical, so there would be no reason to reference him here. btw, sorry, i still have no idea how to sign this thing.
You hit the button with the pwetty writing on it. That'll put your signature on it, y'dig? --Lux Acerbus 23:11, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

How is this worthy of mention?

  • Homestar already has the piece of cilantro in his mouth when he receives the hot dog from Strong Bad. (!-- NOTE: This fact is mentioned here because it is not appropriate to mention this in the transcript (it ruins the joke). Please do not delete it. --)
...and? A reference to Coke is considered to obvious to be included? The joke is that it's been there for two weeks. Of course it is there.

first of all, the note answered your question before you asked it, secondly, everybody knows coke. Not everybody notices that the cilantro was there. DeFender1031 19:39, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

It's TTATOT. It's not TTATOT sorry, but I think not about the Coke refrence. User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man
Umm, sam, no it's not. DeFender1031 19:48, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't see the point of that fact... Strong Bad's message states that Homestar's had it in his teeth since they ate at that Mexican restaurant two weeks ago. Of *course* he'd have it in his teeth before Strong Bad hands him the hot dog. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 19:49, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I, for one, noticed the cilantro was there my first time watching before Homestar started reading the food items. I wasn't completely sure of what it was until he got partway through reading them, but I noticed it. I don't think we should totally avoid mentioning it in Homestar's first appearance in the transcript because it "ruins the joke" because the cilantro itself is not the joke, and because it's not exactly hidden. --Jay stuck at home (Talk) 19:51, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

I reworded the fact. I still don't quite agree that it's remarkable, but I think the reword better expresses what is being remarked upon without having to invisicomment it.

If somebody wants to put it in the transcript, I say knock yourself out, but it makes no sense to comment on the fact that a piece of cilantro that's been stuck in Homestar's teeth for two weeks is still there a few seconds before he finds out about it. What is the point? Besides, it's visually apparent, so if it's going to go anywhere, it should be in the transcript. I noticed it the first time I watched the toon, even though I didn't know what it was. --Lux Acerbus 23:15, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Thing is, I did put it in the transcript (the first time, not the second where it currently is), and it was removed as "explaining the joke". What joke is being explained is beyond me. --Jay stuck at home (Talk) 23:16, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Office Space Reference

"We're going to need you to flush twice." If read correctly, it sounds like something Bill Lumbergh would say from Office Space. "Yeah, I'm going to need you to go ahead and come in tomorrow..."

TTATOT DeFender1031 19:51, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Not to call you out in the hot-spot, DeFender, but you're marking a LOT of things as TTATOT today. I'm not so sure that every external reference (like to Spiderman 3 and Office Space) should be discounted as TTATOT quite so quickly. Office Space was the first thing I thought of with that note as well, and to my knowledge there are very few pop-culture appearances of that particular phrasing style that aren't parodies of or references to that movie. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 21:46, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
So, where is the Fun Facts page for this e-mail, so that we may add it there? --CX360 23:15, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't know... I don't think one could call it a case of TTATOT, but I still think it's a stretch to call it a reference. --Lux Acerbus 23:30, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
This is the sort of thing that STUFF is for. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 00:24, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

the old?
the new?

Methinks Strong Bad's design's changed again. From what I can see, the silver thing's gotten narrower, the shading on his diamond is different, and his head is thinner. Any input? Dr. Clash 20:14, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

No, it's just zoomed out more. That's all it is. Maybe. This may be true, but it might not be. To me it just looks zoomed out, but that's just me. Any other opinions? --Jangles5150 20:19, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I concur. --CX360 20:24, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
To whom do you concur to (wow, that sounded fancy)? --Jangles5150 20:27, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I concur to you. The view is zoomed out. --CX360 21:25, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Actually, if you have Firefox, open candy product and underlings in 2 tabs, pause at the newspape parts, and flip between them. Now that I do that, Strong Bad's eyes have gotten beadier and the black of his mask is darker. The shading diff is unmistakable, and the silver thing is definitely smaller Dr. Clash 20:30, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Or if you have Internet Explorer 7, that has tabbed browsing. But I think his mouth has gottten smaller. The shading on the top right part of his mask has changed, too. I don't think his eyes have changed, though. --Jangles5150 20:39, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Y'know, he does look different now that you mention it. Not quite so broad, somehow. Interesting. -- Nevadie 20:51, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
It looks like it's just zoomed out to me. Notice that in the second image there's an extra row of green tiles on top, and Strong Bad's head is also notably smaller in the second image. Beyond that, I haven't tried it, but Strong Bad was probably talking during the frame above and not talking in the frame below, since his mouth is larger in the former than in the latter. --Lux Acerbus 23:20, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Responding to Lux, the images above ae just there to illustrate a point (and I wasn't gonna upload 2 new images just for this), but they're at pretty much the same magnification using my above tab switch technique. The differences are alot more visible that way. Dr. Clash 23:43, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
How in the world can you make a darker black? It's just not possible. --CX360 01:17, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Actually, i just checked using a handy tool i have for these things. The top one's "black" is actually #242424. The bottom one's is #202020. Definately darker. DeFender1031 01:19, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Ok, i just looked at the full size versions of these pictures. the new one has:

  • A narrower and more rounded bottom shadow on the blue thing
  • Narrower eyes
  • Darker "black" area
  • Wider and darker right shadow for "black" area (old one was #151515 new is #000000, true black)
  • Darker streak on left (#454545 vs. #343434)

No way to deny it now. A new Strong Bad is in town! DeFender1031 01:28, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

The blue and grey parts are lighter, too. Visorbot 386 02:00, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Nice try, but actually, that's an illusion due to the "black" being darker and the blue's shadow being smaller. the grays are both #CCCCCC and the blues are both #5FC7F3. DeFender1031 02:03, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

That thong th-thong thong thong

What is up with coach Z's thong? it looks like it has thorns in it or something.

Unless it was poking Coach Z and the black ooze was his blood, I think it's just your perspective of how it looks. Homestar-Winner (talk) 22:38, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I see thorns also... hmm, a thorny thong... DeFender1031 23:00, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
But they're PINK! The thong just has a little frill on the straps. --Lux Acerbus 23:22, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
That's correct, although it's called "ruffle". --CX360 01:18, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Is the name "Awkward Social Sun" similar enough to the band "Broken Social Scene" to be considered a reference? Granted, Broken Social Scene is not exactly an emo band, but this may be worth considering never the less...

It's a stretch. Loafing 22:49, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Don't you think it should be a real-world reference when he says Lost....Vikings at the end? I don't think he was talking just about the game, i think he was mentioning that when Vikings came to North America, they landed on Nova Scotia where they mysteriously vanished more than likely due to little resources and the fierocity of the Native Skraelings..... just a thought. -={torp11}=-

No. ALL his couch talk are games. DeFender1031 22:56, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I have to give you some props for your supreme knowledge of history, though. Has Matt? (talk) 22:59, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Oh yeah that's right I just read that yesterday... well i still think it's a real-world reference because he chose that specific game. -={torp11}=-
I do think it's clear that Strong Bad chose Lost Vikings because of the mention of Nova Scotia, but I'm not sure if that's worth noting. --Lux Acerbus 23:23, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I would start a poll or what not but my newbish skills do not carry me far enough, lol.-={torp11}=- 00:01, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Can someone start a STUFF poll??? question: "Lost Vikings was most likly mentioned because there is significant Viking artifacts from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; those Vikings disappered without any evidence of death or migration(making them lost)"
Naw, we usually decide about facts with this kind of consensus (and then head to HRWiki:STUFF only if no consensus can be achieved). In this case, I think that the reference is only to the SNES game, as is typical for Strong Bad's Couch Mumbling. But if there are enough people that agree with the other side, then maybe we can start of STUFF iTem. Trey56 01:10, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

The more I think about it, the more it seems like a possible double ente... antund... two reasons for doing it. (someone tell me how to actually spell that word please?) DeFender1031 01:12, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah in every other game mentioned there was a reason behind it. This is that logical explanation.
Umm, if you think so, go through the whole list and give me them, cause i only see it for this one and maybe (if you push it REAAAAAAALY far) chrono trigger. DeFender1031 01:17, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Ha! There are arguments about evidence weather or not Vikings were there. It seems like the ONLY fame attached to this sparcely populated island. It was called "Vinland" and the region's civilians are known to be generalized as Vikings. (and they hate it) Is there ANYONE who is with us on this??? It is in plain view!!!! It is a simple change to add on to the end of the explanation of the game: "This game is more than likely mention because of Evidence (DNA... just kidding) of a lost civilzation of Vikings in the area where the e-mail sender is from"

What was he referring to when he said 'Super Contra'? I'm pretty sure it's just the game, man. --Abelhawk 02:25, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

It looks like there's actually moderate support for this fact, so if you want to, go ahead and create an account and start a STUFF item. Trey56 02:24, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Ok, not EVERY game there is a definate tie into the email or toon, but this seems perfectly logical
I need help with the STUFF creation, I tried to follow the format but it didn't seem to work. Can someone else create it?
Wow, we don't know our games do we? Does the "Lost Vikings" ring a bell? Blizzard entertainment (actually it used to be Silicon and Synapse)? 1992? SNES? Mega Drive? Why don't you google it. Might find something interesting. -teh c.

Isn't that T-shirt with "You Reek-A" on it the exact same picture for all of the shirts in the Homestore? Just blank and white? --Abelhawk 23:19, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Duh, I'm sure they'll be selling it within a week. -- 02:50, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Crappy Signature

Back Pape & Baseball Signing

Does anyone else think that the Back Pape article on a sports player signing a big contract is a reference to Roger Clemens signing with the Yankees during the weekend?

The timing is certainly right... but it's pretty generic. Lots of sports players sign big expensive contracts. Maybe if it mentioned baseball specifically, you'd have something there. But as it stands, I don't think it can be linked to anything in particular. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 04:04, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
