While linking to 187 (number) is a little silly and unproductive, and while we generally can assume readers know Wikipedia is not censored, given our current practice, a content warning notice I think would be appropriate. But only for this page.  I see no slippery slope.  The only criteria to add to this page is that the f- word appears several times on the page we are linking directly to, but that I think is criteria enough. WHY ISNT THE HEADLIGHTS REFERENCE MENTIONED?! Its an urban legend that the Bloods (gang) speed around without headlights on, and if you flash yours at them, they kill you as initiation of a new member. Its not true, but thats obviously what Coach Z was talking about. He even mentioned "187", which, as explained here, is used in gangs as a synonem for murder.

During the DVD commentary for this email, Strong Bad uses a swear ("****head"). It seems that in accordance with HRWiki:Swears, we must "always transcribe toons and other material produced directly by The Brothers Chaps and intended for inclusion in the Homestar Runner body of work exactly as it is presented, verbatim." This means that we aren't going to censor it out. But shouldn't there be a content warning at the beginning of the transcript? Have a look at HRWiki:Youth protection: "there are several exceptions where the site may contain images, text, or links that some users find offensive. These exceptions are material to the project and are clearly marked". This means that we add content warnings if we link to external websites containing objectional content, or at the beginning of interviews in which swears are used. So, naturally, I tried to add a content warning to the article but was reverted because apparently "it's a name, not a swear". Eh? What? It may be a name but it still contains a swear! So I have decided to create this thread so we can discuss this matter without resorting to edit wars. Please not that I'm not trying to be overally protective on here, (I'm sure almost all kids know a wide range of swears). I just feel we should give some form of warning, as it would be rather irresponsible of us not to. 20:47, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
 +
:So you think if we had a user whose real name was like... Jacob Shithead, he should have a content warning on his user page? or perhaps, not be allowed to say his name at all, given that it's not from "material produced directly by The Brothers Chaps"? no. In this case, it's a name, not a swear, and there's no reason to censor or warn about it. Let me put it another way, there's no content warning on SBCG4AP Dev Blog where it mentions Dick Van Dyke. 20:51, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
 +
::Of course it's a swear. The whole point Matt as Strong Bad is making is that people supposedly name their babies swear words (although I doubt they actually do as often as people say). Coming straight from Strong Bad's mouth, so to speak, it should not be censored, but I wouldn't be opposed to a small warning at the top of the commentary. — It's dot com 21:08, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

:::(edit conflict) You're twisting my argument in a ridiculous manner. Firstly, if we had a user called Jacob Shithead, he would be quickly told to choose a different username by the sysops, so the first part of that argument is completely irrelevant. Secondly, I would not agree with your statement about Dick Van Dyke because it's not being used as a swear in that case. I'm pretty sure calling someone a shithead would cause some offense and get you into trouble. I know that if that person was really called Shithead, even though this would not happen in real life as Strong Bad is talking hypothetically, then it might not as offensive because it is not being used in an abusive manner. But seriously, does that make it instantly acceptable? Are you saying if Strong Bad used the f-word, you'd take no further action? Ok, maybe I'm getting a bit worked up about this, I was merely questioning the judgement in just leaving it the way it currently is. If that's how you really want it to be, fine. Go ahead, I won't stop you. 21:13, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

::::(As I pointed out in an edit summary, Strong Bad says it as "shih-TED".. yes, it is obviously intended to be spelled as the swear.  I point the pronunciation out here so that those without the DVD can, perhaps, better add to this discussion.  That is all.  (Huh huh, huh huh.. Ding! winter pool is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

I just figured that he drank up the jello and they were left behind. I guessed that the 'sensation' that Strong Bad felt was the jello around him being sucked up. --G a r d e n B o y {Talk · Edits} 01:26, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
I originally thought that too, but upon reading other peoples' thoughts, the ... ingestion does seem likely. but, could even the KOT "eat" the poopsmith?? -Jdhannan 21:59, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, if Homestar escaped the Horrible Painting in Jibblies 2, I'm sure Pom Pom can escape the vast emptiness of space. - OkayGraphics 14:26, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Homestar also escaped the water cooler... — Defender1031*Talk 14:36, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
And, in the most glaringly similar situation, Strong Mad came back from space in MLS; and before the end of the 'toon even — Flashfight 15:14, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
You do recall the recent interview where they were asked what character they would kill off, though, and they decided it might be Pom Pom. Not saying this is what they are doing, but if they do that's likely the source of the idea. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:58, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

well, it's still his first appearance in a cartoon/sbemail, so i don't think we should worry about his Main Page appearance. at least not with how i worded the remark. --Zatchman 21:10, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Mention where Red Angelo comes from

Nobody has put this in yet, but, the Red Angelo and the other kids names commented on come from the urban legend of kids being named Orangejello and Lemonjello.

http://www.snopes.com/racial/language/names.asp

I volunteer in a NBICU and I am sorry to say that there are actually people who have named their children this. mister t 18:31, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
I know for a fact that I live about 10 miles away from Lemonjello and Orangejello. Kevin G. Dannerson 19:07, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
This is claimed as fact in the book Freakonomics, so I put it in with a reference. I think it's pretty clear as a reference to the event itself, though whether or not they actually got it from Freakonomics is uncertain. Keep in mind, though, it's a recent bestseller that sold three million copies, so it's a likely source. --TheNicestGuy 15:20, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
This story has been around waaay longer than Freakonomics. I heard it when I was a kid in the 80's. The Freakonomics text is very unlikely to be the source; why would the Chaps brothers mention another very common urban legend (the headlights flashed at a gangster car) at the same time unless they were referring to common urban legends.
Good point. I entered that just before I read the Snopes story about headlights, which I'd never heard before. Makes more sense now; Freakonomics was probably passing it along without knowing whether it was true or not just like everyone else. --TheNicestGuy 15:53, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Is this the first time the King of Town was actually USEFUL?

In Strong Bad's perspective, at least.-Thnikkafan

This statement is purely speculation. Some would agree, while some would say he has been useful before.--G a r d e n B o y {Talk · Edits} 01:29, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New Animations

two notable points. 1) as someone put somewhere in Fun Facts, bubs' arms are animated like coach z's were in Trogday 08. BUT!! they were already animated like this in nightlife and Happy Dethemberween. 2) we've never, NEVER seen strong bad's mouth do what it's doing at the end of the email. somebody should fit these into the remarks --Zatchman 15:39, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

all i know, is that whoever wrote that fun fact failed to use english grammar rules or something. I read it 4 or 5 times and only have a guess as to what it means -Jdhannan 17:26, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
i see what you mean. i didn't read it carefully the first time. well, since i now have time, i guess i'll just handle this bit myself. --Zatchman 20:27, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

actually, i move that we no longer bother with mentioning the new animation style for bubs' arms, if not including this sbemail, than from now on. --Zatchman 20:37, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I agree. There's no point in mentioning it every time. --Foolster41 20:55, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Space station

At first I thought the space station in the space background was a copy of the one from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Then I looked up some images I realized that the original was a double wheel and not really that similar. The only striking feature they share is the "centrifuge wheel" design, which I imagine is not unique. Is there a station somewhere in sci-fi that looks more similar to this one? Something from Star Trek, maybe? (I browsed around Memory Alpha, but nothing jumped out at me. --TheNicestGuy 15:39, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

That's exactly the point, the centrifuge design isn't unique. The Brothers Chaps could have seen the idea anydangwhere. Also, didn't it appear in theme song? Evil Egg 13:55, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
You know that one "episode" of Tom and Jerry? The space station in that looks like this one, only more like a roulette wheel.but, a buttdanceNeox ONION BUBS!YOU WILL RESPECT MAH AUTHORI-TAH!!! 23:31, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Flavors

If we don't have a running gag about flavors, we should. (If it already exists, I couldn't find it.) I thought about just "Color Flavors" but we also have water described as Malinko- and Strong Bad-flavored water (in rough copy). We have orange- and black-flavored from Malloween Commercial, Bubs's sno-cone flavors, and the drinks in Lookin at a Thing in a Bag. Any name suggestions? Anyone is welcome to take this ball and run with it; I ain't so gung-ho about creating articles at the moment. OptimisticFool 18:36, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I dunno, we could have an Unusual Flavors or a Flavor Variations section for things like the flavored water and the orange-and-black marshmallows, respectively, but I don't think normal flavors like grape, cherry, green apple, etc. deserve a mention outside of the articles about the food/drink.-- DongleGoblin 19:22, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
E.L. Cool created Color flavored. OptimisticFool 19:41, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Interesting. Without reading this discussion I made Color flavored. Modestly Ok minds think very closely, right? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 19:42, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
In my defense, I was talking about flavors, not-color flavors. Still, my bad. Sorry.-- DongleGoblin 19:59, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Highly Intellectual Property

Are there anymore instances of Strong Sad wearing the glasses he wears in this sbemail and rough copy. I'm wondering if they can be featured as a running gag.-- DongleGoblin 19:37, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

didn't he also wear those in business trip? --Zatchman 20:29, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't think so. Those had legs, or whatever you call the part of the glasses that are held up by the ears. They might be a variation though. I haven't seen the DVD, but could someone who has tell me if they're the same glasses that are featured in Accent?-- DongleGoblin 20:43, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] State-shaped gelatin blob on Strong Bad?

Does anyone else see that Strong Bad has a glob of gelatin on his pants toward the end of the e-mail in the shape of the state of Florida? Or am I crazy? Is this worth a mention?

I don't think it's worth a mention. We eventually decided not to note the smiley face-shaped globs of whatsit adorning the Hornblower in KOT's VOQPCS!. The notability requires intent, you see. It's likely coincidence. --DorianGray 21:46, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Definitely not a coincidence. It looks unmistakably like florida. It seems to me TBC are playing the hidden shapes game now, as this isn't the first time they've done this, and i bet we could find many more stated or whatnot in other places where blotchiness appear. — Defender1031*Talk 23:58, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
I totally agree. When I first saw it, I tried to click on it. If you google "florida jello", the first result is a picture of hot girls wrestling in jello from the university of florida... you think that could be it? mister t 05:06, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
lol, i kept meaning to double check it and see if that was really florida - thus, my vote is Yes, theres a florida shaped "jello" blob
Well, I double checked after reading this thread, and there's not enough resemblance. It's definitely not Florida. Loafing 22:37, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
There's no doubt it looks as much like FL as you can expect with translucent dessert related substance. Though until I see more states popping up, I'm not going to assume that it was intentional, but the resemblance is unmistakable and undeniable. OptimisticFool 23:37, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Inside reference is probably wrong.

It's probably not the first time this has happened. Anyways, I don't think that the comic was named for Real Mutants #87 (Obscure, I'm sure). I think it was named so because of the fact that it was email 187. I'm sorry, obscure comic fanboys, but it's not true. Try again next time. - Eruption257

[edit] Bubs Evolution

Am I crazy, or is Bubs undergoing anatha evolution stage? He looks a little different... SuperfieldCreditUnion

No, they've just started doing his arms differently. ALso, it's spelt "another". Evil Egg 13:57, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
I know it's "another". Can't a guy pronounce something differently once in a while? SuperfieldCreditUnion
Pronounce? yes. Spell? no thanks.

[edit] Frog Eggs

"Frog Eggs" refers to the science fiction novel His Master's Voice by Stanisław Lem, in which scientists try to decipher an alien message, but only manage to create a gelatin-like substance they call "Frog Eggs".

The "Frog Eggs" reference seems to be too far-fetched for me. There's no real relation, apart from the two words. JudgeDeadd 04:31, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

I dunno, I think it makes sense, since we're talking gelatinous things (such as jell-o) here that TBC may have intended that one. -- Cheesius 11:35, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
I think the definitive proof for the fact is Strong Sad (the geeky character) says "I don't even get that one", telling us that the reference is obscure. I think the reference provided is obscure enough to fit what Gron Sad says. — Flashfight 11:44, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
That's a ridicolous kind of "proof". There's absolutely no proof that this is what was intended, apart from the name ("frog eggs" is a common phrase!), gelatinuosity (real frog eggs are truly gelatinous, aren't they?), and notice that Strong Bad is saying "How we doing here, frog eggs?" - thus implying he was referring to Homestar and Strong Sad, not the stuff in the pool.
The fact here isn't just about Frog Eggs, it's about the science fiction novel "His Master's Voice" by Stanislaw Lem, which is something that would generally be within Strong Sad's geekines. We're talking about Jell-o here, and unless anyone can come up with another 'frog eggs' linkage, and moreover one that fits the "I don't even" comment, I say the fact stays. — Flashfight 13:29, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Removed. Stuff it if you wish--Mycroft Holmes 16:53, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Re-added. I think we should give this maybe more than 12 hours of discussion before we make a decision. —Flashfight 16:55, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
I doubt it's a reference. Your proof about even strong sad not getting it holds no water, as the point of making references is for people to get them and find them funny. If i was making a cartoon and I made a reference to some inside joke i have with my roommate, would that be funny to the rest of the world? no. Furthermore, SB was referring to SS and HR, not the jello. please burninate this fact. — Defender1031*Talk 16:57, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Re-re-removed. A reference this flimsy and obsure should be assumed incorrect and moved to STUFF.--Mycroft Holmes 17:00, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Seven thumbs down on this "fact". OptimisticFool 17:01, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Mycroft, if you want it STUFFed, then STUFF it, but don't keep edit warring. — Defender1031*Talk 17:02, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
We've been preferring talk page discussion to STUFF where possible lately, which is very much as it should be. Heimstern Läufer 17:03, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
TBC have made exceptionally obscure references before. In web comics this fact was STUFF'd and accepted. # "Web in Front" is a song by North Carolina-based indie rock band Archers of Loaf. Just because it's obscure doesn't mean it is any less true. &mdashFlashfight 17:05, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
But that was where clicking on "web in front" produces a sign saying "go loaf". Here there's no such connection. — Defender1031*Talk 17:06, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Frog Eyes means Jell-o is referenced, and characters themselves refer to its obscurity. I see that at least as much a connection as Web in Front and the word Loaf — Flashfight 17:08, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
I think that the connection between the two very plausible, since we are talking about a fairly famous science fiction novel, and there is a linkage between the word SB uses and the substance in that particular novel and in the pool. And I would use a counter example to DeFender's argument; Mystery Science Theater often pulled in the most obscure references. The point was not that everybody got it, but if only a few people did. In this case, "Frog Eggs" on the surface seems like a non-sequitur by Strong Bad, but if you know the novel, then you get the joke. It strikes me that TBC are the type of people that would love to put in that sort of multilayered reference in occasionally. wbwolf (t | ed) 17:09, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Could it be that Strong Bad was just insulting Strong Sad because Frog Eggs are fat and geletonous, and the same goes for Strong Sad (in Strong Bad's opinion) SuperfieldCreditUnion

Seriously, people, should not the article mention something about "Frog Eggs" and its link to Strong Bad's habit of creating nicknames for Strong Sad? After all, Strong Sad does answer "I don't even get that one", as if Strong Bad directed it at him. At least I think this could be good for new viewers.. --WP CEO 13:47, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Your Funeral

Homestar and Strong Bad's voices are distorted similarly to how Strong Bad's was after he was preserved in the funeral episode. That it's a reference is strengthened by Homestar's request to be preserved in red Jell-O.

That's just a similar sound effect. I don't think there's a connection, really. — Defender1031*Talk 18:11, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] It's Abort, Retry, Ignore, or Fail, when I state

That's supposed to be a reference to something on DOS/Command Prompt where you try to access a drive that's empty (like a floppy disk drive). --Addict 2006 18:17, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

What are you talking about? — Defender1031*Talk 18:38, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
He's talking about the Strong Badman comic Easter egg. OptimisticFool 18:44, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Okay, this time I'm totally gonna get it. Seriously you guys. Okay, so I go to my old computer with Win ME on it, and I'm in command prompt right now. I go a:\ and this shows up:

Abort, Retry, Fail?

Now, I remember I used to have a really old computer that had Win 3.1 on it, and it said, Abort, Retry, Ignore, Fail. Here's the Wikipedia entry. --Addict 2006 18:47, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

I remember that. I used to run an old Windows 3.1 computer, and in DOS I would always have trouble with old disks. It used to always yell "Abort, Retry, or Fail?" at me. I've put it into the Fun Facts, under Real World References, since nobody's done that yet. -Zero.exe

[edit] Talk and Mouth Move Goof

When Strong Sad said "any second now." his mouth wouldn't move. This was fixed later the next day.

This is listed as a Fixed Goof, but I never saw this goof to begin with and I was super early in seeing this email. I usually notice something this obvious, and I just didn't see it. Can anyone confirm that this was really a goof? OptimisticFool 15:33, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Oh Dang!

Strong Badman is saying this in the Easter Egg, and Coach Z says it when Peacey P orders breakfast in Rap Song. Are there any more instances of this, and could it be a running joke? 75.69.70.69 00:36, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

"Dang" is used quite a lot in the cartoon. I remember I think it was Strong Bad who said he didn't want something "any-dang-way". Anyway, I think it's just the Brothers Chaps getting around swearing, and it doesn't need its own page. It's not even particularly noteworthy, much less funny. Kvn8907 21:51, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

YOu're right, it has no relevance to the toon. Why not take this to the forum? Or some bizarre science website? — Defender1031*Talk 01:59, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
I think you'd probably just lay on top of it, and only sink in a few inches. And even if it was a bit warm and had the consistancy of quicksand, you could probably still float on your back with in it. Kvn8907 21:54, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
The viscosity of gelatin is about the same as that of water (slightly higher, if random pages found by Google are to be believed, but it almost certainly varies by recipe... different sites give it as anywhere between 0.5% and 50% denser than water) so if anything you'd sink less in gelatin than in water. The main difference is in the viscosity... gelatin is extremely viscous, so it'd take you a long time to sink down to that level... you'd probably just lie on top of it, as Kvn says. --phlip TC 08:29, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] 187

Shouldn't there be a thing in the explanations part or whatever explaining Coach Z's 187 reference? "187 is a numeric code for the crime of murder used by law enforcement officials, particularly in the U.S. state of California. The number is used for this purpose because Section 187 of the California Penal Code defines the crime of murder.

The number 187 is now in common use by many gangs throughout the United States as a synonym for murder; this usage has been reported among gangs as far away as Florida and Wisconsin."

Look again, it's there. — Defender1031*Talk 03:03, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] 40-E, anyone?

Does anyone have any idea what the 40-E on the space station refers to? I can't imagine TBC putting something there if it was meaningless. The closest thing I could find was a rapper that goes by the name "E-40". If he is a gansta rapper, it would fit in with Coach Z's urban legend, but I have no idea. Any thoughts? -Eaglescout1984 21:22, 26 January 2008 (GMT)

There may be something meaningful behind it, but it's pure speculation at this point. There's no clear connection I can find to a space station or anything like it that "40-E" might refer to. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:27, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bubs-Bill Cosby?

Do you think it was intentional that immediately after Homestar mentions Bill Cosby it cut to Bubs and Coach Z talking? I mean, Bubs does sound like Bill Cosby, or at least Fat Albert voiced by Bill Cosby. Might it have been a subtle nod to one of the inspirations for Bubs? Kvn8907 21:48, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Nah, Bubs sounds like Redd Foxx. At least, that was the original intent. Having grown up watching Fat Albert every Saturday, I'm qualified to say no, Bubs sounds nothing like Fat Albert. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 10:00, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Inappropriate?

Now, as I recall, while Wikipedia is uncensored, the hrwiki strives to be family friendly. Don't we usually mark links which lead to possibly objectionable content as such? The link to the Wiki page on 187 should certainly be marked as such, along with...well, a lot of the links we have to Wiki pages which contain bad language.

Other sightings often warns us of objectionable content on sites like Weebl & Bob or VGCats, which, while using some inappropriate remarks, are nothing compared to what certain Wiki pages contain.

Just a thought. Is there a template for this, like [objectionable content] or something? If not, should we creat a new one? -- Onamuji 06:28, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

which link specifically are you referring to? — Defender1031*Talk 06:30, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
As stated above, the Wiki link to 187_(murder). There are plenty of other links like this, and if need be, I'd be glad to identify them all...but obviously, that's another project entirely. --Onamuji 06:41, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
I don't see anything inappropriate on that page... — Defender1031*Talk 06:43, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Under Media References on that page there's a ton of inappropriate stuff. When I added the fact, my link to Wikipedia was to 187 (number). I suggest we change it back to that. OptimisticFool 06:49, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
I hate to evoke the slippery slope argument, but 'Kipedia is not censored. If we're going to say that we need to throw up an objectionable disclaimer on every one of our pages [winter pool] that links to one of their pages [187(number)] that links to an entirely different page [187(murder)] then I think we're going a little out of what is normal in the pursuit of family friendly — Flashfight 09:01, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
I understand that it's a slippery slope, and I certainly don't think we can warn about every link that potentially links to another bad page. I mean, honestly, we'd never be able to put up links of any sort, as nearly the entire internet's connected. The problem here is that 187 (murder)--which was directly linked to--contained the "f" word more times than I care to count.
That sounds so childish. Ah well. --Onamuji 13:19, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
I changed the link back. The reference is not just to the number, but to its use as a police code. If we're going to go to the trouble of explaining it (and I think we should), then the explanation should be accurate. I don't see any particular need for a warning. Although the word you mention is used on that page, it's not "above the fold" nor is it really that prominent in the list of examples below the main section. — It's dot com 17:10, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Actually after looking at the page I kind of disagree. The word in question is still fairly prominent within the "Media references/Music" section (whether or not that section survives is yet to be determined). There's no need to scour the wiki for other such examples. --Stux 17:25, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm actually going to agree with an inline content warning, as it links directly to 187 (murder). My comments on a "slippery slope" refer to an earlier version that linked to 187 (number), which most would have to agree would have been overkill. — Flashfight 19:20, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Seeing as how the 187 (murder) page has undergone significant edits since the above discussion took place, and all innapropriate language has been eliminated, I've removed the "mild language" warning from our link to the page. --Coredumperror 10:40, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Thick 'n' Nasty

I just noticed that this email uses the XX-wide black border TBC said they used to use when they were in the habit of trying to hide the extraneous stuff beyond the SWF's edge. Probably by accident this time. Should this me mentioned? For that matter, is it worth it to find out what other toons also used this border? (I mean, if it's worth pointing out the stuff that's revealed when the SWF is decompiled...) Octan 00:53, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

I've been wondering about the reason(s) for obscuring some toons/sbemails like that. Where did TBC say that they use it to hide stuff? OptimisticFool 00:59, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
They mention in their Georgia Tech talk that "for a while, we made that border huge." They don't say which emails. But that was almost a year before this email came out. So either they dragged in the wrong symbol from their common library that week by accident, or there's something specific "in the wings" that they didn't want to show this time. Considering all the effects that went into making the pool look like it has translucent Jello in it, that might be it. Octan 01:21, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
I can get behind it; maybe I'll try it in about 3 or 4 hours. I'm one of "the nerds that do that stuff". OptimisticFool 02:29, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Nothing interesting there. OptimisticFool 06:43, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] ...hopin' you were Bill Cosby

Is it worth mentioning in the Remarks section that even though Homestar's eyes appear to be facing away from Strong Bad, Homestar's line suggests that he knows Strong Bad (but not Bill Cosby) is behind him? --66.82.9.92 15:59, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The headlights reference

WHY ISNT THE HEADLIGHTS REFERENCE MENTIONED?! Its an urban legend that the Bloods (gang) speed around without headlights on, and if you flash yours at them, they kill you as initiation of a new member. Its not true, but thats obviously what Coach Z was talking about. He even mentioned "187", which, as explained here, is used in gangs as a synonem for murder.

It is mentioned. See Real-World References. OptimisticFool 22:23, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Height of Strong Bad

Has it been mentioned that we learn how tall Strong Bad is when he sinks to the bottom of the pool? (3 1/2 ft)

Wow I Never noticed that

[edit] Strong Bad Swearing

– The Chort 20:47, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

So you think if we had a user whose real name was like... — Defender1031*Talk 20:51, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
Of course it's a swear.
(edit conflict) You're twisting my argument in a ridiculous manner. – The Chort 21:13, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
(As I pointed out in an edit summary, Strong Bad says it as "shih-TED".. yes, it is obviously intended to be spelled as the swear. I point the pronunciation out here so that those without the DVD can, perhaps, better add to this discussion. That is all. (Huh huh, huh huh.. DeFender said Dick Van Dyke).) OptimisticFool 21:17, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
Firstly, I didn't say user name, i said real name. secondly, if that really was his name, you still think the ops would say so? I don't. — Defender1031*Talk 21:20, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
But the thing is, it would never be his real name, because no one actually has that name. The it's an urban legend and a joke, just like the others in the snopes link. -132.183.138.157 21:22, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
But... my mom REALLY had a patient with that last name when she was a nurse... — Defender1031*Talk 21:24, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
Sure she did. Show me a birth certificate. We would of course not allow someone to go by the username "Shithead". The reasons should be obvious, but it's so beside the point that I'm not even going to elaborate further. OptimisticFool: We should consider tweaking the commentary, because it reads as though he says "Shithead". — It's dot com 21:27, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
Should this talk page get a content warning, now? -132.183.138.157 21:38, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
No, the topic header is warning enough. The primary concern for the flashing-lights warnings is the articles, not the talk pages. — It's dot com 23:00, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
