[edit] German Translation

[edit] 2 März 2006

"And not those girly ones where you pretend to be a dog or a frog neither." Am I right? Am I left? --DorianGray

Good job again, man. Heimstern Läufer 08:52, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
Hey, you wanted to know if anyone was up, so I took a crack at it... Plugged it into Babelfish, and "dog or frog" jumped out at me. So there you go then. --DorianGray
Yeah, that would do it. "Dog or frog" probably doesn't show up too often in any other quotes. Anyway, as always, there'll be a new one eventually. Same Heimstern time, same Heimstern channel! Heimstern Läufer 09:12, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

I got,"And this Maedchenlichen, in which one introduces oneself, one is not a dog or a frog." Which is obviously the same thing DorianGray was talking about...I just thought that translation was funny. With crap, Yeltensic (T C) 08:19, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

It may be for you like that, but... you are a Po? Thunderbird 05:15, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
On a scale of one to awesome, you're DELETED! That's not it. Keep try! Heimstern Läufer 05:18, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

STRONG BAD: It might be for you, but {pause} you're... a butt. {smiles} Thunderbird 05:19, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
That's a good'un, TBird! Heimstern Läufer 05:20, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Haha, I guess "Po" ("Butt" in German, I assume) isn't in the translator's volcabulary. Thunderbird 05:23, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, that was part of the fun of this one. Another thing that was fun is the fact that the translation doesn't work like the original: there's no wordplay, since "aber" ("but") and "Po" ("butt") don't sound similar in German. Heimstern Läufer 05:26, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

It may be like that for you , but... you are a butt! ~Linuxerist L / T 23:42, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

"A- he died somehow." Teen Girl Squad Issue 7 ? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:45, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Correct! But man, your name is going to hard to translate into German! Heimstern Läufer 03:47, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
If it's any help: The name actually originated as a Klingon word. The Q is like a German ch but in the throat, a uvular fricative. The q is like a k, but also uvular. And the e and a are Classical "eh" and "ah". And I cannot wait for my cuppy cake. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:50, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
What the... How comes you never told me when I asked you? Thunderbird 03:57, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

I was just remembering that line yesterday! That's great, man. You crack me up. That's why you're my D-O-G-E. Heimstern Läufer 04:05, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
I think it's "And... it died somehow." That's what my translator widget says. —Einstein runner (thorax.pngfile_icon.gifmail_icon.gif) 01:10, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
Ah, but the contest is to identify the Homestar Runner website quote, not simply to translate it. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 01:13, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Poll

Would you mind participating in my poll on my user page? Bluebry 05:21, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Bluebry, I'm not really a fan of polls around here, especially not if they take place on a user page. I mean, part of the reason we got rid of the guestbooks was so people would only edit their own userpages. So I'd really rather not leave an answer for this one. If you really want to know my answer, you can read my user boxes and find out my favorite characters. Heimstern Läufer 05:28, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
Ah, ok. I guess I won't take it down now (see the reason on the page), but uh, is that why we got rid of guestbooks? Bluebry 05:31, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
Eh, it wasn't the only reason. I personally believe that all polls, contests and other such activities should happen on talk pages (or at least, the part where other users participate should), but I'm probably being cranky about it. Heimstern Läufer 05:34, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
If you want, I could move this to my talk page. Bluebry 05:35, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
Whatever you want, man. I don't make the rules here, after all. Just one little caveat about this poll though: Remember, you are getting mostly hardcore Homestar Runner fans here who will answer. That doesn't necessarily represent the views of the Homestar Runner fan community as a whole. So even if your finding contradict WP, it may not mean anything. I would guess that the majority of fans who aren't hardcore like me do have Strong Bad for their favorite just because almost everyone comes to H*R by way of a SBemail. Basically, what I'm saying is that your poll may not convince the WP folk that their info is wrong. Keep on tranglin', Heimstern Läufer 05:45, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
Then again, that info BzJ gave strikes me as somewhat more reliable. Maybe that could be used well. Heimstern Läufer 05:47, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sysop

Hey Heimstern. It is my pleasure to announce that you have been given sysop privileges and responsibilities. If you have any questions, never hesitate to ask. May you always use your powers for good and for awesome. — It's dot com 00:01, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Wow, congratulations! ^-^ May you continue to do great things. --DorianGray

Good work! —BazookaJoe 01:08, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Meant to congratulate all the new sysops at once, but then the site seemed to feel like The Cheat after going through the dryer. Happy hundredth birthday, Strong Bad! --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 01:42, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Congrats! Actually, I thought you were a sysop. PREEOW! Bluebry 02:30, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
And now for my response. Dot com and the admin team: Thanks for this honour. I'm so glad to have the chance to be a sysop and assure that I will use my privaleges [sic] for the good of the wiki. To TBird, BzJ and Jay, the sysops who congratulated me: I'm honoured to be joining you. Watching you in action over the past few months helps me feel prepared to do this. Dorian: Man, all those times we've fought vandalism together... keep up the good fight, and always remain Dumbledore's man through and through. Same for everyone who's fought vandalism alongside me (Lapper, The Chort, anyone else I may have forgotten). Dacheatbot: Man, the pleasure is all mine to be able to work with great users on a great wiki. Keep representin' Ventura County. And Bubsty, should you ever read this: well, your prediction was right. What can I say? Keep on tranglin'! Heimstern Läufer 05:21, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations Herr Heimstern Läufer (with an ä!). If I am not mistaken, you are the user who advanced to sysop the fastest. Only being here for 5 months, I think you broke the record since we moved to MediaWiki. Wow. just wow. How much a user can achive in such a short time. Your German translation has swept the wiki and even given birth to a new trand. You deserve this promotion. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 18:05, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, man. I think I heard once that FortyTwo achieved sysophood faster than I, and she was after the great migration. But I guess five months is pretty fast. I'm kind of surprised it happened so fast (I mean, what did I do to deserve to become a sysop faster than Dot com?) I'm glad to see you became one too. We're a so much more international sysop team now that you and Phlip or with us! Anyway, talk atcha later. Heimstern Läufer 18:09, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Homestar Coder became a sysop in just under two months, FYI. — It's dot com 18:14, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Yes, now that you say it, I remember that, too. So let it be known that no, I do not hold the record for shortest time to sysop, nor for the longest bull honkey. Heimstern Läufer 18:17, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
OK, not htat fastest, but fast enough. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 18:28, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
It was May 6 -> Sept 9 for me. Four months and three days. That's almost scary. —BazookaJoe 20:17, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

11/12/04 -> 4/25/05. That's five months, 13 days. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 00:55, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Almost the same timeframe as mine, then. Mine was 5 Oct-7 March. Five months, two days. BTW, Ookelaylay, I prefer that people don't write out my last name when addressing me, so you're good. It sounds really stuffy to me when people call me by first and last name like that. Heimstern, Heim or Heimi is fine. Heimstern Läufer 19:55, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Heimi! Who spilled coffee all over the plans for my death ray?! — It's dot com
Ah, yes, that reference again. That email can never get old, really. I think of it every time I see a danish. Heimstern Läufer 03:02, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] your first block

The IP you blocked is a part of NSMC. Did you know that? --The 386 My talk 00:54, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Yes he does. However, it's probably not the same vandal as the real NSMC. This is just a persistent vandal using 65.167.x.x. I don't know his true identity, but Dot com could figure out if he's unique or connected to our other persistent vandals. —BazookaJoe 01:57, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
According to my search, it's actually not the full range of 65.167/16 - 65.167.68/22 looks more likely. (Trust me, I know what I mean.) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 02:03, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Right, I'm glad that you can figure out ranges. Because I, at this time, cannot. I'll learn Sunday. Sunday. Someday. —BazookaJoe 02:07, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Some knowledge of binary numerical representation and use of this page help. ;) I actually had a class in networking at the university a while back, and the construction of IP addresses was part of it. I'll tell you this much: if a vandal is using a bunch of different similar IP addresses where the first two numbers are the same, blocking #.#.0.0/16 will block them all. Sometimes, though, you can get a bit more specific - as in this case, 65.167.68(.0)/22 covers the new vandal's IPs while blocking fewer users. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 02:10, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Meh, I've got my system set to show everything in Pacific Time, so I use that even though the records use GMT. I mean to fix another date to line up with that too, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Heimstern Läufer 15:26, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Web Capturing

Does anyone know how to capture an image from homestarrunner.com? Oh, yah, I have a eMac so...... --Dacheatbot · Communicate

[edit] I'm the Homestar Runner! Some folk say I'm a prime row!

Hey! Thanks for the congrats, and right back at you! Seriously, maybe someday Homestravinsky Runner will take life; it's almost enough to tempt me into the dark world of Fanstuff. Or maybe it should just be an all-H*R-cast production of Agon... or maybe Wozzeck! (Or—just imagine—Bubs starring in Sweeney Todd!) —AbdiViklas 05:55, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

"Is there such things as human meatpies?" "Not yet!" Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 06:05, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
Oh, dear. An H*R Wozzeck. That scares me to no end. Instead of the snoring chorus in Act 2, can we have Homsar going "AaAaAaAaAaA"? So, would Marzipan be Marie, and Homestar, umm, Wozzeck? I've got to say, Homestar's accent just doesn't work in German. Strong Bad should like be the Captain: "Er ist ein guter Mensch, doch er hat keine Moral!" Man, that makes me laugh out loud. Oh, and umm, <extrememusicnerdiness> I actually did once imagine an H*R Zauberflöte. </extrememusicnerdiness> I had a really hard time casting Papagena, though. Anyway, talk atcha later! Heimstern Läufer 06:14, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
Via translation-o-matic...
Er ist ein guter Mensch, doch er hat keine Moral! = He is a good person, but he has no moral!
Zauberflöte = Magic flute
Thunderbird 06:18, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
You know that switchblade-rattle would come into play in Sweeney-Bubs! I dunno about Homestar as Wozzeck; the end, where he loses his mind, wouldn't really make much sense, would it? As for Papagena, who did you have in mind for Papageno? Because I was going to suggest Homestar in drag, but that would be difficult if he's -geno as well. (Though maybe for the movie version it would work!) Perhaps The Cheat. (All this is giving me ideas of a Strong Bad Don Giovanni...) —AbdiViklas 06:32, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
I've always intended for The Cheat to be Papageno. They're both characters that seem to have human and animal elements to them. Homestar as Tamino is a funny thought to me. Of course, the real problem is that no one can even remotely fit as Sarastro. And a Don Giovanni would be great too... The Cheat pleading Strong Bad not to let the Statue in to the house! That cracks me up! Heimstern Läufer 06:37, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] TTATOT

What does TTATOT mean? I found it in a summary of a revert of yours. LePorello / T / C 21:29, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

It stands for "This, that and that other thing". It means that something could be a reference to any number of things, and therefore it's probably a reference to nothing (although in this case, it's plausible that "poopertrooper" is a reference to "pooper scooper", just most likely not anything else). Heimstern Läufer 21:33, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Dear The thing:
  1. We don't block IPs infinitely.
  2. Stop telling the sysops what to do.
That is all. Thank you. Heimstern Läufer 00:01, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
Okay. P.S. Why don't you block IP's forever? --TheThin 00:08, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
IP addresses may be in use and re-use by multiple people, computers, networks, or even Internet Service Providers. Due to this, blocking an IP address infinitely would be more harm than help. — Lapper (talk) 00:10, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
{edit conflict} Innocent people can get blocked if we do. Note that I did see that this user had done more vandalism than I originally realised and therefore changed his block to one month instead of a week. Also, please don't feed the trolls in the future. It doesn't help to tell them to stop or to send angry messages to them. Thank you for reverting his vandalism. Heimstern Läufer 00:12, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

You think TBC threw that in for your benefit? (Seeing as how there's some speculation that they made the eyeballs on the pear jiggle just to answer our questions.) I can't recall them using a full German phrase on the site before. —AbdiViklas 23:51, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

It's highly tempting to believe that. But then, they had Deutschman and Düsseldörke long before my day, so it's probably a stretch. Wouldn't pass a STUFFing. :-) Still, you never know for sure... Heimstern Läufer 07:30, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Guten tag, Heimstern Läufer, how are, how is easter (If you celebrate it?)?

How have you been these last couple of weeks, or so?

[edit] Sbemail 150?!?

It's an expression. And anyway, Strong Bad was probably just embellishing a bit for his "movie preview". --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 18:33, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
{edit conflict} OK, I don't think those two really relate to each other. People say "All I/you/he/she ever wanted was..." all the time just to mean, "what he wanted was...". So I don't think there's a contradiction there. Heimstern Läufer 18:34, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

Thank you for reverting that vandalism to Don and Harriet Chapman. When I was sifting through Recent Changes that caught me a little off guard. — Bassbone (TALK Strong Mad Has a Posse CONT) 00:22, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Just doing my job, man. :-) Blocked him good. I can't say vandalism like that surprises me anymore, though. Some people are just like that. And it's therefore our job to stop them. Heimstern Läufer 01:25, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

TELL ME WHO THE DOOR IS! YOU KNOW! --TheThin 19:07, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Access to that information is restricted, and unfortunately it's above your paygrade. Sorry. Also, do not shout at another user ever again. -- Tom 19:09, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
I wasn't really shouting. I won't tell you what I was doing because I don't know how to explain it.
