Sorry

Hey Jay, sorry 'bout breaking up the pages with my sig. I didn't realize I had added an extra return in there. Thanks for fixing it » c u t e p e t s r u s « T/C

Hey Jay- while I'm here I just thought I would ask you this: (I would just wait for it to be partrolled, but I just wanted to check it with you) is my question of the day on my user page too much like a real STUFF or is it ok? » c u t e p e t s r u s « T/C 23:27, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
My problem with it isn't STUFF related; it is strongly encouraged on this Wiki not to encourage other people to edit your own User page for any reason (we had a long and bloody fight over this when it came to "Guestbooks".) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 23:38, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Ok, so would it be fine if I moved it over to my talk page? » c u t e p e t s r u s « T/C 23:51, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't have a problem with that myself, but I don't know how other sysops will view it (though I doubt they'll have a problem with it; many users have mini-"contests" expecting answers on their talk pages). --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 23:52, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Sig issue

Hey, I had the same thing happen when the three ~'s didn't become a sig. Odd, any idea why? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 21:40, 8 May 2006 (UTC) (Just to try it here: Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png)

About "japanese cartoon"...

  • Hi, Jay. I wanted to make a comment about the NES endings easter egg, particularly the Metroid ending, and it didn't seem appropriate to bring it up in the cartoon discussion (plus it wouldn't make sense to anyone besides us). Since you don't have a listed e-mail, I'll bring it up here. The screen that it shows, "You Fulfiled Your Mission", et. al., either features a Samus Aran in her normal suit or, if you enter a certain code (the famed JUSTIN BAILEY ------ ------ code, for example), a suitless Samus, as it shows in this instance. VGMuseum shows both variants as an animated gif. Both variants do not show in the same ending, you either get the normal variant or the suitless variant if you put in a suitable code. It is the following screen which is then based upon time, and that screen does not feature any sort of text. When the game is completed under 3 hours, that screen also shows Samus in a red suit...whereas if Samus is suitless, she will always be seen in a green suit on the first screen.

Anyway, I just felt like mentioning it. By the time you read this, I will probably have edited the page again and I wanted to explain the reasoning behind it instead of it potentially resulting in a siutation where we are constantly changing each others' edits. Otherwise...keep up the good work with editing the wiki and I'll do likewise. -- Frickinsellout 16:27, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

P.S. You are free to make this entry DELETED shortly after you read this, since it may not be the sort of thing necessarily to have in your archives.  :)

CGNU fight song

Hey Jay. I was wondering if you could upload the rest of the song for the three clefs. So can you upload the rest of the song, please? Also, I think that maybe it could then be placed in the CGNU page.--H*Bad 22:53, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

I don't think that's necessary. I was trying to illustrate a point; a point I feel has been made and I'd just as soon delete what I already have if there are no objections. And if we have to transcribe the CGNU song, what about The Cheat is Not Dead? What about the Homestar Runner Theme Song? What about every song except MAYBE the raps? Seems rather unnecessary. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 23:48, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Edit

The edit on the Admin thing. I was going to revert it, but it really just creeped me out.--H*bad 01:20, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

It doesn't matter as long as someone reverts it. Heck, I only didn't revert it because Qermaq got to it first. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 01:20, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, thats really just me. I don't want to say anymore.--H*bad 01:25, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Inappropriate? Absolutely no argument. Vandalism? Of course. But come on, it was just some really vague sexual references. Sexuality is a normal human concept. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 01:26, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
I would agree. The vandalism was inappropriate, but the subject matter would be considered appropriate for adults (outside the workplace and other similar areas) by society. I've seen more graphic stuff on the TV. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 01:39, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, almost everyone over, like, 11 or 12 has seen stuff like that. AlliterativeAssociate 01:45, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Which is a problem in our society. The reason why I might have gotten sick, was because of that I have been raised without it.--H*bad 01:47, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
That is true - we do need to be cautious here because of the kids who have not (we are not in a position to educate young minds in how to deal with that, that's a parent's job) and in recognition that there are a few folks here and there who happen to simply have an aversion to anything in this particular theme. Out of respect to them, we need to be diligent. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 01:53, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
I am personally of the persuasion that vague sexual references aren't damaging to children at all and that some people blow them way out of proportion, but that said, I never said it wasn't inappropriate or vandalism. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 01:55, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
I was going to revert it as well but Qermaq beat me to it. It's Okay to feel uncomfortable when seeing that kind of thing, H*bad. But then again that may be what the vandal was trying to do....Hmm... --Dacheatbot · Communicate 02:14, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Lucky! But we shouldn't feel bad because you do hear more people saying randomly "he answered my e-mail" more than just in the middle of something "he didn't answer my e-mail" matt said they get anywhere from 2,000 e-mails a day, which are pretty slim chances. » c u t e p e t s r u s « T/C 02:38, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about just deleting that fun fact. I guess I should have STUFF'D it, but it seemed really obvious to me at the time. Spelling of "Gip"

Hi,

Please see http://www.answers.com/topic/gyp (and to be fair also see http://www.answers.com/topic/gip)

Will you allow my edit of theme song to stick now?

Thanks 198.49.180.40 00:20, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

I see your comment in the themesong page. Why don't you note that what SB typed is a mis-spelling? Other transcripts do that. "Gyp" is a slur, related to Gypsies' reputation as thieves. That's why "gyp" is the correct spelling. 198.49.180.40 00:24, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
You do realise that the first link you gave [1] says that it's also spelled "gipped"? Loafing 00:41, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Sure. But the second [2] doesn't say anything about it (this meaning). "Gip" is obviously not considered a canonical spelling of this particular term by the American Heritage Dictionary, but variant instead. Why don't we add it to the transcript with the note about SB's variant spelling? 198.49.180.40 00:50, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
That first link you gave is GIP in all caps. Did you see this article [3]? Variants are not misspellings, and are not really important to note. So makey outy 01:01, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
It is also questionable that "gyp" really is a slur (see the Wiktionary, though as we discovered earlier today, "gip" is actually not present there for some reason.) We had this discussion earlier today. At any rate, Strong Bad actually types the word "gipped", and according to our Manual of Style, what Strong Bad types is what we type, whether misspelled, nonsensical, or contrary to what he actually says (though in that last case, we also note what he actually says.) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 00:46, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
That's why I didn't put the slur under "Fun Facts" - I know lots of people would howl about it. 198.49.180.40 00:50, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
[It's clear]. Maybe not to lots of people in general, especially Americans, but it's not imaginary. 198.49.180.40 00:52, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Even if we accept it, why does it matter to the topic at hand? Many dictionaries accept "gip" as a viable alternative. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 00:57, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Citations, please? 198.49.180.40 01:03, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Why? I believe it's notable. Want me to find examples of SBEmail transcripts where similar things were noted? I'm only trying to note the spelling issue, not the slurring issue. That doens't belong in the transcript, but instead in Trivia or something. 198.49.180.40 01:06, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
[4] [5] [6] --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 01:07, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
If you can find one where it's just a variant and not an actual misspelling, then it would be a valid precedent. So makey outy 01:09, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
If you can find one where it's just a variant and not an actual misspelling, then I will happily remove it there too, 'cause I really don't think variants are notable. --phlip TC 01:11, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Comedy Stylings

Re: this - what's abnormal about the construction "comedy stylings"? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:51, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

It's certainly not something I hear on anything remotely resembling a normal basis. And it certainly sounds more awkward than "headbrow style" (given what it's representing; a hair style) and "With the e-mail style, get it over with!", both of which are currently on the "Style" page. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 07:22, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Hmm. I was under the impression that the page was not for citing usage of "style" when it's a common phrase in American English. Not that it's necessarily authoritative, a GoogleFight between the examples we've cited proves interesting. Fact is, there's a LOT of examples of this phrase's usage. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 09:12, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
That's got nothing to do with the odd usage of "stylings" and more to do with the usage of the word "headbrow". Like I said before, it represents a hair style. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 15:58, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Same age

You're the same age as me, Jay. Were you born in 1982? That's the year I was born. Is your real name Michaell Jay Jiminez? I remember a Michaell Jiminez from school. —Brian Barbera 00:08, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I was born in 1982, but, no, my name isn't Michael which whatever. My real name can be found via information on my user page, but it's not ON my user page. And that's all I'm saying about that. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 03:02, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

My revert

Hey, Jay, just wanted to let you know I've been talking to Lapper on IRC and he is almost done with the whole transcript (he's apparently not doing it in installments like I do, but getting it all done at once). That's why I reverted back to the inprogress tag. Just wanted to clarify. Heimstern Läufer 01:15, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Well, okay, but an hour with no updates does look suspiciously like an abandoned transcript... I mean, you can understand why I removed it, right? --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 01:19, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Absolutely. Would have thought of the same thing if I hadn't been in IRC to check up on it. Heimstern Läufer 01:27, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

20X6 Homsar??

Does Homsar really have a 20X6 counerpart? I can't find it on the characters page... SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 17:26, 24 August 2006

Jay only said that he's not the only one to have no 20X6 counterpart. Loafing 21:34, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
EDIT CONFLICT'D!! (Ow! My response! But I'm saying it anyway.) You misunderstood. My reasoning was this:
  1. If you say "Homsar is the only main character without an Old-Timey counterpart", without mentioning 20X6, then the statement is true.
  2. If you say "Homsar is the only main character without a 20X6 counterpart", without mentioning Old-Timey, then the statement is false (Bubs, Strong Mad, Strong Sad, The King of Town, and The Poopsmith also have no 20X6 counterparts, and the counterparts of Marzipan and The Cheat have yet to actually do anything. Even The Fort Wayne Locomotive got an appearance in a 'toon.)
Thus, the fact as written was misleading and added an unnecessary complication. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 21:36, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Subtitles

Hey Jay. We've now got a dedicated subtitles page. Organization is still a bit chaotic, but we're getting there. We've defined the new format now, and put a downloadable testing environment online. The new format is backwards compatible, so you won't have to re-do everything just yet. And if you put your subtitles on the wiki, then I'm sure they'll get fixed "magically" ;-)  Loafing 23:58, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Variations

Hey Jay. I'm wondering what led to this group of edits. The reason I ask is because you removed so much information from each page, and I was trying to find either where that information was already listed on each page or the discussion about why it shouldn't be listed at all. Cheers! — It's dot com 15:48, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

The section was too poorly-defined and many users were adding random Nicknames to the lists. Some of them may yet be notable, but we need to be consistent about what the category contains. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 16:21, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about the transcript

I jumped the gun and tried to finish off the "retirement B" transcript before you did. I was just trying to help, but I can see why it would be a nuisance. You did a much better job than I could have. I imagine more annoying things happen all the time , but I just wanted to say that I've learned my lesson. Sorry!--Bobo the King 08:29, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

No, no, I may have over-reacted, but the #1 annoyance when trying to write a transcript is edit conflicts. It's why I put the "In progrss" tag on the transcript twice. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 08:32, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
This reminds me of my high school history teacher who liked to interpret velvet "do not cross" ropes as a suggestion rather than a rule. She has photos of her at the Smithsonian Museum doing things like sitting on stools used for Civil Rights sit-ins. I'm amazed she hasn't been arrested yet. Anyway, the important thing is that we have an awesome transcript already and no permanent harm was done. Sorry again!--Bobo the King 08:53, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Apologies???

As a reply to Subtitles talk:sbemail167/en, there was only one easter egg to subtitle. And besides, I'd still be in check, what with being the subtitle creator for three consecutive SBEmails (I don't want to brag any more nor do I want to in the first place) before giving it off to Shwoo because she wanted to do a sub script. And anyway, my computer gets sluggish as well. --Addict 2006 23:09, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

In Regards to SB's mouth in Record Book

Even in the old animations, whenever SB makes an o sound, including the ou sound, his mouth turns round. It did when he said round, which has the same vowel sound as mouth. Yet when he said mouth in the email, his mouth did not turn round as it was supposed to. This is especially noteworthy as he was contesting his mouth being rectangular all the time when the goof was made.

It's not consistent enough to call it a "Goof" though. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 06:49, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Arguments

I'm not clear as to what just went on/is going on between Has Matt? and Bluebry_muffn , but I know this: The wiki froze on me temporarily. The rest of the internet worked fine, but the wiki was suddenly loaded down. The only thing going on was these two and their argument about... what exactly? I gave an explanation; I'd have figured checking the other DVD pages to see that this was what was done with them would have been obvious, personally. Sorry I yelled, but I hate edit wars, especially over an established standard. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 20:16, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
I too hate edit wars, and if i had been aware that it was an established standard, you can bet i would have left it. I don't mind it being caps like that, really i don't. But I DO mind inconsistency. Yes, the obvious this would have been to check the other pages, and I admit that it was probably stupid not to, but people aren't always smart. As such, I believe patience is required. I also get annoyed at stupidity from time to time, and i understand how annoying it can be. I apologize for this misunderstanding. — Defender1031*Talk 21:07, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Help?

Hi, I'm a new user here. I already asked Dot Com for some help, but he's too busy to respond. I think someone from a commitee or something is supposed to help me, but since no one has, I was hoping you could help me out? -Elkmiester

I'm a little unclear on the question. There is a "Welcoming committee" that gives out links to new users. Is that what you mean? --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 01:13, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Although, the welcoming committee doesn't give out links anymore. It gives out welcomes. — It's dot com 17:34, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Nonsense?

While I don't think it deserves a page, I wanted to make sure that you knew that Poop Smoke is indeed a secret song that can be found on the Homestar Runner website. Now that I think about it, I'm sure you already knew that, but I wanted to know if that's what you meant by "nonsense". —Zelinda 16:21, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Uh, no, I didn't know that at all... --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 21:04, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I didn't know about that either. here it is, though... Trey56 21:17, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

this edit summary

It wasn't just "for a personal reason;" it was specifically for surgery. Are there actually other widely-known cases of talk show hosts who have done that exact thing? If there are, I will politely step down, but I wish you hadn't used sarcasm to explain your deletion; that's something I really don't like to see on this site.

Surgery is almost universal in modern society. Am I to believe that Letterman is the only talk-show host ever that took an absence due to it? I'm aware of small-time radio talk show hosts getting temporary replacements for every reason under the sun; surely not as widely-known as Letterman, but who said it had to be a widely-known case? And I'm sarcastic a lot; I'm sorry if it seemed abrasive but it wasn't meant to be. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 23:57, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I'm that anonny. I knew there had to be a reason for that empty space there, but I never exactly checked it out on my own. Great job not being lazy! -141.133.145.118 18:06, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

recent edit to your user page

You left out a semicolon after the Overanalysis of Homsar's Speech Pattern thing. I couldn't fix it 'cause your page is protected. Homestar-Winner (talk) 12:50, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

You can't access The Thnikkamaaaaan! (Yeah, shut up, Wiki!)

So, uh, WHY can I not access The Thnikkaman or its Talk page? Notably, I can access The Thnikkaman through its history, but there doesn't seem to be anything unusual there. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 17:20, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

What is ESPECIALLY weird is that the error page I'm brought to has "thnikkaman" (but not "THE thnikkaman" as is the page's name) in its URL. What the pfargtl? Did someone higher up on the chain than me have something to do with this? --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 17:28, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
TBC got a cease and desist from the makers of the real Thnikkaman game, and so we had to temporarily shut the page down. It'll be rereleased under the name "Who said what now?" soon. Um, I dunno. -DAGRON 17:34, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
What's funny is that I was having a thought very similar to that. ;) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 17:38, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

It's really frustrating that you're trying to get around the "This is real" message. All it does is send me more database errors. The message seems completely self-explanatory to me: "There is an error accessing the The Thnikkaman page. The page will be unavailable until the error can be resolved. Thanks for your patience." In other words, we're aware of the problem, we've taken steps to fix it, so keep your pants on until we do and stop messing around in the system. — It's dot com 18:02, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Gee, I'm sorry that I saw a problem with incredibly limited info and, as a sysop, felt the need to find out what I could and at least make an attempt at fixing it. I won't do it again. 9_9 --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 18:50, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Are you serious? You know better than that. You got the pretty error message telling everyone to be patient. When you went around the error, you got a more severe database error. Several times. Instead of posting on the wiki about a temporary problem, you should log on to IRC and ask someone whether we're aware of it. — It's dot com 19:03, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Your Signature

Hey there, Jay, and welcome to our wiki. I see that you changed your signature, and now it doesn't conform to our standards anymore. It's slighly too short. Could you please fix that? Thanks for understanding, and keep on trangling Loafing 05:20, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Fonts

Regarding this, I did put some thought into where to list that, and was left in doubt with my decision. The reason I listed it under "Not on the Site" was because the Flash file itself isn't hosted at homestarrunner.com. Anyway, I'm certainly willing to accept that, for the moment, the Advertisement is "on the site", but I'm not sold on the idea that it's a Short. TBC themselves haven't categorized it, as far as I can tell. But, anyway, for what it's worth I have no problem leaving it listed where it is for now. I will, however, be keeping an eye on it to make sure we correctly document it if/when it gets categorized, or if/when it gets removed from the site. OptimisticFool 04:44, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for the note. Actually the earlier transcript wasn't by me; I've changed what was there now. I tend to work on the whole thing in one go when I do transcripts. -- Mithent 14:36, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
