[edit] Floppy Screens

Those are awsome. I couldn't have done it better myself. Yea, feel free to continue uploading floppy disk screens, I'm being kept pretty busy with the floppy disk summaries anyways, so thats great that it frees up my time. I also like the 'King of Screenshots' title. I'm glad someone noticed. Please, feel free to "continue and... not stop". Me and you, we're gonna clean up this wiki. Whereever there is no pic, we will create a dozen in it's place! Hahahahaha!

Okay, gonna go continue the Floppy summaries. Bye.

-- Thunderbird L17. 06:14, 8 Oct 2004 (PST)

Well, just thought I'd give you an update on the page you helped me build. It's done, and it's excellent. Links can always be added to fansites for the games of course, but overall it's done, up, and thanks to a grant from the cheat, and viewers like you, it looks really good. Feel free to check it out at it's new location, Floppy Disk Container. Thanks again, if you ever make any pages, and want some help, count me in. I'm always up for a project. [edit] Floppy Talk

Updated. What do you think? Thunderbird 21:30, 27 Oct 2004 (MST)

Awexome work, my friend. I hope TBC are looking at this wiki! --Teh P. 19:49, 11 Nov 2004 (MST)

Hey thanks, I didn't think to look for double-links to the Wikipedia. Sharp eye! ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 14:54, 8 Dec 2004 (MST)

I replied to the message you left on my talk page. In case you didn't see it, it was this:

I can't really take credit for the acronym -- that was Tom's idea, after we spent a few minutes trying to decide on a name for it. I asked if we should pick a playful name or a boring and adminstrative name. So we hit on the idea of a boring name with a playful acronym. We decided on this one when Tom noted we could go "STUFF'D!" whenever something had to be moved. :P - furrykef (Talk at me) 02:01, 21 Nov 2004 (MST)

[edit] Screenshots

Well thank you for the compliment. Yea, that one was kind of hard to get, when I realized the old box was no more, I switched to another browser which wasn't updated yet, and snagged the screenshot before it was too late. Then a few hours later, when I had time, I tried to get the new screen. I was trying to think of how to get just a generic shot of it, when I realized that the first time or two, when you open it, it took a second to load, and had the generic title of homestar saying that quote, just on the picture. But you couldn't hear it. Of course I didn't notice that until it had already loaded. So once again I switced browsers, and managed to grab that one a few seconds before it loaded too. Since it was on the Main Page 9, the paper one, the background was mostly white, so I was able to just edit out the non-white parts by filling in the parts that weren't shadowed. Thank you for your notice of a rather difficult screen. Btw, I've started a new section that requires alot of screens, I haven't really done any yet, Firebird has been taking care of that, but it's here if you want to help. Thanks again. -- Thunderbird 08:42, 24 Nov 2004 (MST)

I'll be uploading as many halloween costumes as I can! --The Paper 08:58, 24 Nov 2004 (MST)

[edit] How Long Will The Paper Last?

I come bearing good news on The Paper front. I was a little astonished when I heard that the paper would only survive 55 episodes, or one year. However, if you take a sample year, such as the e-mail labor day to the release of the toon Labor Dabor, only 31 emails transpired. Therefore, by those calculations, with Teen Girl Squad, Marzipan's Answering Machine, Powered by The Cheat, The Cheat Commandos, and other e-mail replacements, I belive that The Paper has a better chance of surviving for one year and about 40 weeks or so, making it's date of possible replacement circa September 5th, 2006, or late summer/early fall or so. That's my prediction anyways. -- Thunderbird 08:53, 26 Nov 2004 (MST)

Well, if it takes that long, it might happen around the same time as the events listed in 2 years. Clever Ben

True, but 2 years were more of predictions I think, and not neccisarilly fact. This seems like they're really gonna do at least... Something though. To name the e-mail by name, it seems alot more concrete than 'sometime in two years, Coach Z moves into Strongbadia' Just my humble opinion though... ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 00:54, 5 Dec 2004 (MST)

Actually, 2 years should come to a finish before the printer, in 2005, since it was released 2003. But either way, I don't think anything will come of two years, (see above comment). ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 14:18, 10 Jan 2005 (MST)

[edit] Quote Of The Week Flash File

Since you found the flash files for weekly fanstuff and sketchbook, (as told in sketchbook talk), I was wondering if you had the flashfile for quote of the week too, if there is one, for external links at the bottom of the page. Some way to see the new ones in fullscreen, like seeing fullscreen Fanstuff and Sketchbook. Do you follow? Is there a way? If you can, thanks in advance. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 12:37, 30 Dec 2004 (MST)

I went ahead and updated the External links section of that particular article to reflect the addition of the this flash file: http://www.homestarrunner.com/qod.swf. Thanks for asking! --The Paper 23:41, 30 Dec 2004 (MST)

[edit] Special Request Of A Task

Hi Paper! Thunderbird here again, with a special task for a few of my fellow users. On the Sketchbook page, in the Museum section of that page, the last picture is a bunch of rejected halloween costume ideas. The caption gives the challenge '10 bucks to anyone who can identify them all'. So what I propose is to identify them all. I've already set up a basic 'top left to bottom right' type list under the 'Description' section, with the two most obvious costumes in it. But can we get the other costumes, and win ourselves $10? Any costumes you know would be a help. Thanks. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 02:11, 2 Jan 2005 (MST)

Update: The good Doctor Haggis was far faster with that task than I could have ever expected. All the costumes are done with the exception of one: The full body Marzipan. Many think that she is in fact Belle from Beauty & the Beast, but we're not quite sure about that. What are your thoughts? Any better ideas as to who this mystery Marzipans could be, or even just your opinion as to weather or not she's Belle? ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 12:10, 2 Jan 2005 (MST)
You know, I haven't given this much thought lately. I suppose she could be belle, but I think the situation is moot at this point. But thanks for asking for my opinion. --The Paper 18:36, 21 Jan 2005 (MST)

[edit] DVD Floppy Screens

Thanks pape, that's awsome. I was working and just got home, and was just about to check the thread. So I'm gonna do that right now, and start adding them the best I can to the Floppys list. Thanks man. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 16:24, 9 Mar 2005 (MST)

Okay, it's up. Sort of. Any way to get straight PNG pics from the DVD? I think they'll turn out better if you can. If not, it's a pretty good base. I'll be working away at it for another little while yet... (Oh, and Btw, feel free to use my Talk page whenever need be. That's what it's there for). Oh, and what do you think of my Userpage? I've been working on it lots. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 17:19, 9 Mar 2005 (MST)

Not a problem, I would have done the same thing if I weren't so darn busy... And congratulations, you're now the first person besides myself to edit my userpage. [edit] Something Interesting...

Hey Pape, long time no see. Howsabout you helping me out with something, again? This time, it's a webpage. Namely, this one]. If you're wondering where I got it from, check the Strong Bad Email Fun Facts section. Anyhoo, I was just trying to figure out if this was also linked to in some other way on the site, incorperated into a toon or whatnot. I recognize it, but can't figure it out. But that's all just sidestuff. The reason I chose to tell YOU about this, was the fact that it involves the paper to quite an extent, it's in a different venue, is chewed and torn repeatedly, and is actually seen to be PRINTED OUT!!! So yea, that's about the size of it. I added it to the Fun Facts, and I feel it should be meantioned somewhere in relation with The Paper, but am unsure exactly where or how. Since you are the resident Paper expert on the Wiki, I figured I'd leave it in your capable hands. So what do you think we should do? Should we even make a seperate Printer page or something, since SHE's been meantioned on other occasions as well? ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 02:58, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

(P.S., on kinda a side topic, on the Paper page, under 'oddities', in 'invisibility', it meantions that the Printer is male, despite the paper being female. Then a comment is made that perhaps it is a refferance to computer parts being labled 'male and female' for obviousish reasons. So under the same line of resoning, Between a printer and it's paper, the Printer WOULD be female, and the Paper male. Get my drift? Anyways, if you want to somehow tactfully explain that on the page or whatnot, be my guest. But yea, there you go. There's my rambling done.)

[edit] Sysop

[edit] Video Files from Flash

How do you find out the URLs of videos withing flash files (like you did with Kick the Can)? I would very much like to know how to do this. Thanks --jbo

Thanks for asking, Jbo. I used a shareware program called "Flash Decompiler" to discover said URLs. I simply opened up old.swf in this decompiler program and then clicked on the "Scripts" tab on the "Resource Bar". I saw a bunch of code like this:
// Button actions...

on( release ){
    loadVariables("oldmovie8.swf","/screen")
    }

// Button actions...

on( release ){
    loadVariables("oldmovie6.swf","/screen")
    }

Then, I just copied and pasted just the filenames (oldmovieX.swf) and subsequently saved them all to my hard drive so I could open each one to see which movie reel belong to which movie number.

You can download a free copy of Flash Decompiler program here. Thanks for noticing such an interesting contribution I made back in October 2004! --The Paper 04:47, 17 May 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! This should help, once I get the hang of it. It could be that I'm trying to tackle too big of a fish too early on, but could you help me out on this site? In particular, I'd like to link to the videos under the "Video Clips" Seciton of Multimedia. Is it possible? --jbo

Try opening up a file called shell.swf from that website and see what you can find under the "Scripts" folder in Flash Decompiler. Sites such as this use clever tactics to avoid "hotlinkers" by masking the true location of the video files so it's sometimes difficult to find the URLs of videos. Good Luck! --The Paper 20:29, 18 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Oh, yeah! I forgot all about adding a new TGS link. But, where are the other links? Edit: Oh, wait. I saw them. Go back to what you were doing.

[edit] Store Images

Sorry about the images I uploaded earlier. I got about halfway through when I realized the quality was terrible. I just finished editing them and was about to upload the new versions when I got your message. I sort of stumbled upon Homestar Coder's Store mockup and thought I'd finish it up. [edit] Homestar's Shades

I saw that you made a bigger version of the picture on Homestar's Shades. The picture of Homestar on Main Page 3 did not have his glasses on. I already fixed it. -Lotionman 05:45, 17 Aug 2005 (UTC)Lotionman

Thank you for fixing it! It is really funny, really. I got so caught up in making sure the image was PNG optimized that I forgot that Homestar wasn't even wearing his sunglasses in the bottom right corner. However, when you replaced it, the image seemed to be slightly blurred and the file size doubled. I have uploaded a replacement which is nearly identical to yours, except it is clearer and takes up 50% less space. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 14:55, 17 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Item vs. Character

To the Paper- Hi! I'm new so, can I have some help. You are part of the welcoming commitee, so I went to you. Also, The Paper is my favorite character. Why is he listed as an item instead of a character? - User:Tompkins

Hi Tompkins. I'll give you an official welcome message on your talk page shortly. In the mean time, I will address your question: The main reason why The Paper is listed as an item instead of a character is because it has no speaking lines other than its sound effect "preeeeow" and the "Email Strong Bad" message. Also, The Paper does not interact with any characters other than Strong Bad. The Brothers Chaps said the following at the end of the animal DVD commentary:
MATT: ...Over the years, The Paper definitely has become more and more of a—
MIKE: A character.
MATT: It should have been on that big characters poster we made, I think.
MIKE: Yeah. It definitely has a personality.

Nevertheless, most users on the wiki would still agree that The Paper is not a character. But personally I am still open to the idea. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 22:39, 20 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Noice work, Clanky. We took care of them all. Good prize. —BazookaJoe 04:58, 17 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Um, I don't think you got them all. I'm going to have GrapeNuts take care of the rest of these. Is this project listed anywhere, or did you two talk about this in chat or something? I was trying to find another place to note that I was helping, but I can't find this mentioned anywhere else. Thanks. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 19:34, 17 Sep 2005 (UTC)
No, I didn't want to touch any redirects that users made on talk pages. I'm okay with letting them stay as redirects. It was just a little unspoken project that I started, and The Paper followed through on, just on certain namespaces. But, it's okay to use GrapeNuts. I just had a quick change of mind. —BazookaJoe 19:38, 17 Sep 2005 (UTC)
The redirect links aren't just in talk namespaces (e.g. they are in the HRWiki namespace). I'll start with just those, and if there's really enough consensus here I don't see why we shouldn't change user and talk pages as well. EDIT: Heh, in fact, there was a very relevant bad link on the Projects page. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 19:49, 17 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Nice. —BazookaJoe 19:55, 17 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Okay, the ones in the HRWiki namespace are done, and I also did one in the main namespace. Should I start on the User, User talk, and Talk namespaces? — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 20:01, 17 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Hey The Paper. I was just wondering why you protected Strong Bad Emails. I thought it was our policy not to protect anything but the most critical things (i.e. widely used templates and the main page). — It's dot com 18:42, 19 October 2005 (UTC)

If you check the log, you will notice that I unprotected it first, so it was already protected. It seems there is some sort of bug that allows previously-protected pages to be edited. I would suspect it was due to the recent upgrade to MediaWiki 1.5.0. Feel free to unprotect it again. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 02:35, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
There's a simpler solution. Tom protected it from page moves only. You must not have checked the box when you re-protected it. —BazookaJoe 03:09, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
I've unprotected and reprotected from just page moves. Hmm, we might want to submit a bug report for that (that is, that there's no distinction between the two types of protection in the log), or at least make it a feature request. -- Tom 06:39, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Donation

I don't usually comment on donations, since it's kinda tacky, but I just had to comment on yours. Even if it wasn't on purpose, or if JoeyDay floated a cent or two or something, it's still pure genius. $11.01 on November 1st. Pure genius. Thunderbird 05:55, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Hehe, thanks for noticing! I actually made a check out for that exact amount with the extra cent on purpose. I'm glad JoeyDay honoured my request to post it to the ledger on Matt Chapman's birthday. [edit] Where is The Paper?

Obviously, The Paper is attatched to Strong Bad's head-- Benol, aka Coach B 16:08, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

Uh... that theory doesn't exactly work. The Paper comes down from the top of the screen, but Strong Bad's head doesn't go up that high. — talk Bubsty edits 03:31, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Actually, everyone is entitled to his/her own theory as nobody can be exactly sure. This image seems to clarify the situation. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 21:19, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
I think that the paper has no printer, and can spontaneously appear whenever it wants to. Bluebry muffin 21:03, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
that image is hilarious. good times. Seriously (Talk) 17:05, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image tags

How do you think we should tag the images from the NYU talk that you uploaded? We don't have a tag that that really seems to fit them, and I'm having a hard time coming up with a new one that would really be accurate for them. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 19:45, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Template:pd or Template:permission would both work, depending on the copyright status of the images. Do we know who took the photos and do we have permission to post them? Edit: Oh, these are screen-caps of Tom's video, right? You'd have to find out from Tom if he's released that into the public domain or if he's retaining his own copyright and giving consent for these screen-caps. Other than that, the one that comes closest is Template:tv-screenshot, but the wording isn't quite right because this is a home movie and not a tv show. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 20:49, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Coming June 2007, To A Computer Near You...

Based on more recent calculations, I place the infamous email #173 around June of 2007 . Email #117 debuted on November 8th, 2004. Around a year later, we were at email #138. 138 - 117 = around 21 emails this past year. Therefore, the difference between 173 - 117 = 56 emails from the release of montage until the release of 173. 56 / 21 = 2.67 years after November 8th, 2004. That brings us to roughly around June of 2007. That's considerably later than my original prediction of September 5th, 2006, since we've had a slow Strong Bad Email year compared to the old trend of an email nearly every week. If it continues to slow in this fashion, we could be looking at it being replaced as late as 2008. I dunno, I was just bored and figured it was due for a recalculation.

Thanks for keeping me up-to-date with the calculations. I really hadn't thought about the eventual replacement in some time. I'll update that section on my page to reflect your newest prediction. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 15:07, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! Although it's still a ways off. The next milestone to look forward to is Number 150 (link'll be red for a few months yet). Thunderbird 03:01, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
Actually, that be about to happen. ;) 69.160.0.227 21:46, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
True. They've sure been speeding up production lately. Although I still think one five oh is weeks off. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 22:00, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
There's a chance that they'll do what they did with 100, so you're right. I hope they don't though. 69.160.0.227
Man, what did I tell you?! He's procrastinating! Man, this sucks. Ah well. 69.160.0.227 20:04, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Hey, whattaya know! The June 2007 prediction looks like it's going to either be very close or right on. — It's dot com 14:38, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Well, TBC have been known to take extra time writing emails in which something dramatic happens. In this case, I think it'll take a week past Memorial Day. In memory of The Paper? I hate to see it turn out like this, but the last tie to the ol' tandy must be phased out eventually... :( *sniff* —THE PAPER PREEEOW 21:52, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey The Paper, I just wanted to let you know I replied to your post here. --Stux 17:11, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Favorite Quote

Hi The Paper. What is your favorite quote on homestarrunner.com? Gravy Train 12:50, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your question. Although it's difficult to single out just one favorite quote, I'd have to say that my favorite quote overall involves Homestar Runner in the email invisibility. He exclaims "Oh, hey, guys!", gets punched by floating boxes of Swiss Cake Rolls, and then says "Owww! Those things are bad for you." Classic quote, and probably my favorite. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 14:30, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] statistics spreadsheet

Do you still have it? The link on Strong Bad Email Statistics doesn't work, and I'm planning on going through it and completely update it real soon. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 16:14, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

I've since uploaded the excel file to the server again. See my comment on the talk page for more details. Thank you for reminding me. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 11:18, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Theory

Your theory about the paper can't work, because the characters can interact with it. It would have to be able to slide back and forth, as well as change size. —Einstein runner (thorax.pngfile_icon.gifmail_icon.gif) 00:29, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Which theory are you referring to? I haven't adopted any theory as of yet and on my page, I've simply provided others' explanations to show widely varying opinion. Nevertheless, thanks for providing your thoughts on the matter. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 08:01, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hey friend

<3

Lemme get my money back for these cool shades.

I miss you.

BazookaJoe 22:22, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Hiya! Glad that someone missed me. Hey, maybe I'll stick around for a while? Thanks for the kind "weclome" back. =) —THE PAPER PREEEOW 22:27, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] You sure it wasn't April 2?

Haldo, El Papel! Nice to see you again. Are you sure you didn't see the store update on Monday, April 2? I checked on Sunday morning and there was a slight update to the front page news. I'm not sure if I checked the store after that. I might have done so on Sunday night and seen no update, but I can't remember. It seems more reasonable to assume they updated the store late Sunday night or on Monday. Or are you absolutely sure that you saw it on Sunday? What time? Write me back! Preeeow, BazookaJoe 13:30, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for the "weclome back" message. I'm in the Eastern time zone and I was browsing the store late on Sunday night. I was checking to see if the 10% sale had caused any items to sell out and I noticed flowers on the bushes. It had to be after 7PM because I came to the wiki first and saw Pan Pan as the newest featured article. This may have been shortly before midnight but I cannot verify that. Now that you mention it, an update to the footer after the sale that ended Sunday seems more likely. April 2 probably should be the official change date. Thanks for asking me about this because I know we both value accurate dates on the wiki. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 20:46, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Prediction

Your prediction about email #173 coming in June '07 seems like it will be pretty accurate, since we're getting so close (I think mid-May is the expected week?) --Stux 21:38, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey yeah, you're right. I still hope Matt and Mike weren't serious about that "upgrade". I don't think that dot matrix technology should ever be replaced! Come mid-May, I think the 173 milestone will occur then if TBC continue to "churn out" new emails! —THE PAPER PREEEOW 22:32, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
