And when you type in your sig, there's no need to put in the two hyphens or a piped copy of your name. Both of those are already in your sig (There's a dash in your sig template, and displaying your name is the whole pointy of a sig, so it already there too.) and are therefore needless typing! (Who wants to do more typing than they have to?) A quick shortcut to place your sig template on a page is to type three tildes (these guys "~"), and four to do the same but put a timestamp with it. For the record, I like your last sig there the best. I'm of the school of thought that people know how to get to talk pages and user contrib.s and the like, and it's better to make them click one extra time than to take up unnecessary space with a Death Star of a sig. Hi The thing, thanks for joining the welcoming committee! I noticed you thought I "deleted" your welcome message. Actully, I substituted it.

A quick tip: Instead of welcoming someone by writing {{User:The thing/Welcome}}, try writing {{subst:User:The thing/Welcome|paremeters}}

Welcome template

While you're personalized welcome template is fine, the datestamp is a bit outdated. Perhaps taking out the datestamp altogether would be a bit simpler? Also, if you type {{subst:User:The thing/Welcome}} instead, it will save a static version of the welcome template to their page. Then that's what they'll see when they edit, instead of just a one line template. The other thing you could try (to fix the datestamp issue) would be to take out your datestamp and sig, and just sign your template:

{{subst:User:The thing/Welcome}}~~~~

It's up to you how you want to fix it, but in any case it should be "subst'd", to leave behind a full version. I'm sure you can also come up with some kind of solution to clean it up a bit. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 01:02, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Guestbook

The thing, there's a certain aspect about randomly posting messages on talk pages that people don't like. You've been told not to tell people to make a guestbook, and even throwing it out to a user as a suggestion counts too.

We are trying to build an encyclopedia here. This is not the best place on the internet to "hang out" and chat with other people. You can go to the forum for that, or even the fanstuff wiki. Even if our forum doesn't load on your computer, there are a lot of other Homestar Runner forums out there.

Editing User pages and User talk pages all day is not what this wiki is about. It is about improving articles. I noticed some edits that you made about a week ago to some articles, and those were terrific! I was very proud. If you can find an article to improve rather than chatting on users' talk pages all the time, I can guarantee you better success in this community.

Ripley is back with more wierd facts.Thereare the wierdest facts in this book.With only 8 chapters one might think they are not goingto learn alot.You'd be surprised about the information packed in 8 chapters.So you should read this book. If you also like books with many different characters get this book because it probloby has more than 100 characters.My opinion is that this book is a good book if you like books with wierd facts.
