Yes, I can talk. Hi. -Thunder.

Hi to you, too. *waves hand* --BurninatorBoombox&Markie 21:36, 14 Sep 2004 (MST)

PNG vs.JPG

Hey there. I noticed you've been uploading a lot of great images. I only have one problem, and that is that you are saving the images as .JPG files instead of .PNG files. I know we really haven't come up with an image policy yet, but pretty much everything that is a screenshot should be saved as a .PNG. They are meant for the web, have a great compression rate, and generally just look better. The Windows XP version of MSPaint even supports saving to .PNG, as do all other quality image editors like Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks. -- Tom 19:11, 20 Sep 2004 (MST)

All that work... I'm really sorry. I was trying to figure out why all my pics looked slightly off. Oh well. I've switched over now. I just wish I hadn't deleted them as I went along... Oh well. I think I'm still doing ok for only being here about a week. Again, my apolagies. And they'll all be PNG from now on. Btw, if you could provide me with a list of the JPG pictures I uploaded, I could replace them in my spare time. Thanks.

-Thunderbird

Hey, no problem. Here's a good place to get started. Then there's always the Image List. I think that might work best. And I can come up with a better list if you need it. And I'm glad you can see the difference. -- Tom 04:03, 21 Sep 2004 (MST)

UPDATE:

Topic Complete.

All of my uploaded JPG files are now PNG. Took a bit of doing, but it's done.

Bird.

ThunderBird and FireBird. We should, like, join forces and stop crime all over New York City. We could be like "The Birds!" "Look, here come The Birds to save the day!" And I could be all, like, Neeoooww! Boom! Boom! Boom! "I fought them with my fire!" And you could be all Neeoowww! Ker-poussh! Ker-poussh! "I fought them with my thunder!" And then we'd fly away and leave the city at peace for another day.-- FireBird

Brilliant!

Yea, I saw your name a couple times around the Wiki, and thought, 'hey, my counterpart!'. Although, why stop at New York City? If you've got that covered, I'll cover the west coast from Vancouver BC. At this rate, We'll have the whole contenent covered in no time!

I'll cover Mexico and Cuba for now. -- FireBird

Floppy Disks

(This conversation has been copied from Tom's talk page)

Since you apparently look after the floppy disk section mostly, I figured you would be the best person to ask. How do you feel about a picture of the floppy disk container and it's label beside every listing of it in the inside jokes section? I would be happy to complete that undertaking if you approve. Also, is there anywhere else I could add some pictures? I'm finished the rejects section.

-Thunderbird_L17

Floppy Disk Container/StrongBadEmailDiskLabels. Check it out. The problem is this: the Wiki is text-based, and information provided through text makes things much easier to search and quicker to load. I'm not really sure that having a screenshot of every different one is needed. Why would it need to be seen by the viewer? Could they simply watch the toon or email instead? One thing that really needs to be done regarding The Container is having the links to the page standardized. Every Fun Facts section on every email and toon that has The Container in it should link to the Floppy Disk Container page in a uniform way. You could get started on that, if you want. And then there's what the disks actually reference. There's a subpage of the Old Wiki page on that needs to be copied over and gone through with a fine-tooth comb.
Regarding the images, you kind of need to convince me why they are actually needed. Thanks for asking though, this has really gotten me thinking. -- Tom 19:31, 22 Sep 2004 (MST)

Well since you already have the list of where the disk case occurs, it should be easy to find the toons to put the link in. I'll get on it later. As far as the floppy images go, I don't think they're NEEDED per-say, but I think it would be kinda cool. It lets people really VISUALIZE the floppys. They would be really small pics too, not full screen. But if you don't want them I won't put them there. As for other pics though, I have been kind of going through the sites putting pictures on everything, if you don't like any of them, feel free to take them off. I just think that any character, object, or place does need a picture to really visualize what the afforementioned thing is. Most of the pages I did only have one or two pics, with the exceptions of The King of Town's Castle place page, and the Tandy_400 computer page. I kinda may have gone overboard on those ones. Look 'em over and decide. The Monkey_D's page also have a few. If you don't like them you can fix them how you see fit. But the widescreen pic in Strong_Bad's_Basement, I'm really proud of that pic. It took me awhile. -- Thunderbird L17 22:24, 22 Sep 2004 (PST)

Those four pages that you linked to are good. And that basement image is especially good. In some places, it borders on the line of being to much, but I think you played it well. They also could use some small tweaks, but that will all come in good time. As for The Floppies, I think you can make a seperate section on the page for the images and organize them in a table. I actually have all the images, and I can upload them later if you want to use them. (I use them for my avatar on the forum.) What do you think of that? -- Tom 09:11, 23 Sep 2004 (MST)

Okay, it's up and running..ish. Access it from the regular floppy list. If you have the images, feel free to upload them. Any that you don't have, or don't feel like uploading, I can them. Just upload what you want, and I'll do the rest. Oh, and how do you feel about the naming of images in the Floppy_*name_of_e-mail*.PNG uniformity? You can name then however you want, but I think there should be some form of uniformity in naming the image files. Just tell me if this is okay, and if you're done uploading the images you want. Also, they should all be fullscreen screenshots, right?

Thunderbird L17 11:10, 27 Sep 2004 (PST)

Alrightie. Update on the floppy disk container. I've been slowly working away at the Floppy disk container with screenshots page, no help needed there, but as I do so I realized another thing missing from the floppy disk container section, and an actual USEFUL thing, is a breif description and history of the games listed on the floppy disk containers. So that being said, I'm also plugging away at that in my little corner of the floppy disk page. If you would like the commentaries on the main floppy disk page too, which I think would be useful, please let me know so that I can add them to both pages as I go along. No rush though, it'll probably be a few weeks before I'm finished researching them and all. Let me know if you think this would be an improvement to the floppy disk page though. Generally I don't ask permission for editing things, but since you're the senior and keeper of the floppy disk container, I thought it was only fair to ask you. So what are your thoughts?

Thunderbird L17 9:45, 6 Oct 2004 (PST)

I do like the information on what the labels mean, and I wouldn't really call them commentaries. They are all pretty clear cut. Let's see how big they get and then play it from there. Keep them on that screenshot page for now, I don't want to violate HRWiki:Once And Only Once. -- Tom 18:44, 7 Oct 2004 (MST)

Hiho. I've run into a roadblock doing the pics. In the e-mail 'lackey', how did you read, let alone get a picture, of the CD case? It's off the screen! Please let me know, or if you have the pic, simply save it as Floppy_lackey.PNG . Please let me know either way whenever. Thanks.

-Thunderbird L17 10:37, 11 Oct 2004 (PST)

I used a program called Flash Decompiler. It's a free download, so you might want to give it a try. Though I wasn't able to export the actual image, I was able to read the text. But you might have better luck than I did. -- Tom 15:41, 11 Oct 2004 (MST)

Sorry, I don't like treating you like an FAQ, I just have ONE last question. (Probably)... I have the program, but how do you get the file onto it? It seems like you can only decompile files on your harddrive. Is this so? If it is, how do you get a flash file (SB E-mail Lackey) onto your hard drive? If it isn't, how do you get it from the interent? Last question, probably. I promise. Likely.

-Thunderbird L17 7:33, 13 Oct 2004 (PST)

Down the bottom of each toon's or email's page, there's a link for the flash file. Just right click and choose "Save Link As..." or your browser's equivalent. -- Tom 15:57, 14 Oct 2004 (MST)

Thanks, I got it. What do you think of my floppy for Lackey? It's the best I could do... Anyways, I wanted to ask you about the once and only once policy. Though I agree that it's a good policy, I think that the 'see above' thing destroys the look of the summaries, especially once they are all finished. Plus, 'Manhunter New York' appeared in an e-mail at the top, then a toon way at the bottom. So it would be kind of hard to just say 'see above'. Plus since the picture is repeated, why not the explanation? You are the moderater, and whatever you decide I'll abide by, but in this case, since it's only for about 4 floppies, a number that's not likely to be increased, could I just repeat the explanations?

-Thunderbird L17 6:28, 15 Oct 2004 (PST)

You know, I do like the idea of having the information on both. Let's try using a tempate instead. Do you think that will work? -- Tom 18:33, 15 Oct 2004 (MST)

Template? I don't know much about website formating or whatnot. Basically everything I do on the Wiki I learn by looking at how somebody else wrote a code, and then copying that pattern. But if you think the template or whatever will work, go ahead. You were right about floating the pictures to the left, making it into tables, all that kind of thing. Just do what you want, and if I disagree I can always revert. But overall I'm happy with what you do. Does this mean that I can put the repeat explanations on the few pictures though, instead of 'see above'?

-Thunderbird L17 23:49, 15 Oct 2004 (PST)

Okay, here's what I did. I created Template:tongue of the fatman, Template:lode runner, and Template:manhunter new york. Check out the page to see if you like it. Now, there's only one place you need to go in order to change the content that will show up for both floppies. -- Tom 07:41, 16 Oct 2004 (MST)

Okay, that works. I don't really plan on editing them much anyways anymore, once the summary is there. But it looks exactly the same, so it's fine. Btw, I fixed the out of place 3.5 inch disk summary, I found a place for it where it fits nicely. Now nothing has two explanations, and the 5.25 inch disks don't have the same summary twice. (See Second 5.25 Inch Disk Summmary)

-Thunderbird L17 9:09, 16 Oct 2004 (PST)

Very good. Well done. -- Tom 09:10, 16 Oct 2004 (MST)

Hey, can you do the same to Cave Quest (100th e-mail) that you did to Shogun? I can't get it the right size without it pixelating...

-Thunderbird L17 18:33, 17 Oct 2004 (PST)

Heh heh. I already did. You can revert back to my image from here if you like. -- Tom 18:42, 17 Oct 2004 (MST)

Hey Tom, I thought JPG format was to be used for videos and pictures, and PNG for all flash material. Plus I think the JPG looked clearer and brighter. If you really don't want it there, then I'll try another way, but I thought I read somewhere that JPG was preferable for pictures, just not for flash. Is the one JPG really that bad? Please clarify. Thanks.

Thunderbird 06:30, 25 Oct 2004 (MST)

Ah ha. There's a little catch here though. We are talking about a screenshot of a movie or image, and not the actual image itself. Screenshots should always be PNGs. The only kinds of JPGs we should have are photos like Image:TheBrothersChapsBandW.jpg or Image:mattchapman.jpg. Perhaps an screenshot like Image:puppetdween.png better illustrates what I'm trying to say. -- Tom 08:35, 25 Oct 2004 (MST)

Okay, I getcha. Then I guess I'll just put it back on the old PNG one for now. Thanks. I guess if anything, it adds diversity...

Thunderbird 19:08, 25 Oct 2004 (MST)

Alright, I think it's finally done. I have one more little task though that I can't complete on my own. The three templates, Template:manhunter_new_york , Template:lode_runner , and Template:tongue_of_the_fatman are now unneeded, and as such should be deleted, right? I can't figure out how to. If you know of a way, be my guest. Or should they just be left peacefully, until the end of time? -- Thunderbird 09:40, 1 Nov 2004 (MST)

Sorry, I was just going to get breakfast when I finished my summary, and when I finished it I realized there was a stored version that wasn't there when I started. I didn't have time to merge them so I just uploaded mine, and I was going to merge them when I got the chance, which is now. I did notice the picture though, and already put it up. Sorry about that, I don't want to offend anyone. I'm going to merge them right now. I just figured if I put mine in quickly yours is still stored as a past edit, so that way they're both there if needed. -- Thunderbird 12:21, 15 Nov 2004 (MST)

Actually, I never thought about NPOV. While I was doing all this, I used reviews as sources, it's easier to just take the opinions of the writers and condence them. But I think that meathod has given the summaries a multi purpose, to now give you a bit of background about the game for curiosity's sake, but also as a type of mini review, for those who are deciding whether or not to find and play them. It gives the summaries a critical and reviewish type feel. Now to go back and do them all NPOV'D would take some doing, and in my opinion I don't think would be as enjoyable to read. What do you think? Side Note: Since they replaced the 5.25's along with the Tandy, do you think they might replace the 2.5's with CD's along with the comp? UPDATE EDIT: No they didn't, but on Main Page 22 it reveals The Cheat's computer has them. I dunno, just a curious little observation.

--Thunderbird 15:05, 15 Nov 2004 (MST)

I figured since I already started a conversation thread here, I'd ask this under the same topic. Do you have a DVD player built into your computer? Basically the reason is that I need the pics of the Floppy Disk Containers from the DVD Main Menus for the Floppy Disk Container page. If it's got Puppet Time Version, it stands to reason that DVD version would be acceptable as well. I do have the DVD set, but no way of getting screens. (Prefferably 150px or larger). Thanks in advance, [[User:Thunderbird L17|⇔Thunderbird⇔]] 15:18, 7 Mar 2005 (MST)

Okay. I do have a DVD player for my computer. But what screenshots do you need? -- Tom 10:10, 9 Mar 2005 (MST)

The screens of the Floppy disk Containers on the Main Menus (the CG'd ones) from the DVDS. The Paper did get them, but they decidedly leave something to be desired, and we're hoping you can do better. Hopefully Zoomed and what not. Also, the last Floppy Disk container couldn't be identified, it seems as though it's cut off by the camera. Check the Floppy Disk Container, it's got the base of what I'm looking for there. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks alot. [[User:Thunderbird L17|⇔Thunderbird⇔]] 17:58, 9 Mar 2005 (MST)

Okay, I'll see what I can do. -- Tom 08:32, 10 Mar 2005 (MST)
