Seethroo with some questions

Heya, Tom. Do you ever check this thing? What's goin' on with the Wiki? It seems to be going nuts. ~ AgentSeethroo

Yes, I do. And yeah, it's under some strain right now. Crazy. -- Tom 17:51, 2 Aug 2004 (MST)

Cool, cool. I'm gonna be able to help move stuff tonight. AgentSeethroo

Sweet. I appreciate it. -- Tom 18:41, 3 Aug 2004 (MST)

Hey, is there any particular reason I CANNOT get onto Recent Changes on the oldschool wiki? It's seriously gettin' on my nerves. -- AgentSeethroo 14:03, 6 Aug 2004 (MST)

I'm guessing it's just the mySQL overload we've been experiencing. Yeah, bummer. -- Tom 14:05, 6 Aug 2004 (MST)

Woah. I added a pantload...but there are still some organizational things that need to be hammered out...I guess check the comments I made in various places...I'm tired... -- AgentSeethroo 23:11, 6 Aug 2004 (MST)

HOLY CRAP! Who're all those people blocked from this wiki??? I didn't know you were doin' that much blocking already! - AgentSeethroo 15:34, 11 Aug 2004 (MST)

Yeah, those are open proxies. You can see the note here and Joey's and my discussion of the topic here. -- Tom 15:47, 11 Aug 2004 (MST)

I wanted to do that for old times sake. Anyway, I kinda discovered something to make transferring things much easier. If you take the code from 'Tavi pages, put em in Word, and then do a ctrl-f, you can have it replace all the parentheses with brackets. Doing things that way, I can get all my links straightened out before I even put the text in MediaWiki. Just sharing... -- AgentSeethroo 15:44, 12 Aug 2004 (MST)

Yeah, I do the same thing, except I use TextPad. It helps a bunch. Mostly. Just have to be a little careful. -- Tom 15:48, 12 Aug 2004 (MST)
How're all my edits and transfers? Is there something wrong that I'm doing that I need to be aware of? (did I just say "doing"? -- AgentSeethroo 15:54, 12 Aug 2004 (MST)
You, my friend, are doing a great job. You're really keeping things moving along. Keep up the good work. I'm seriously thinking you are the man right about now. -- Tom 17:24, 12 Aug 2004 (MST)

Note from Firebird

Just wanted to say thanks for all the work put into the move. Great Job! -- FireBird

You're welcome. -- Tom 18:08, 20 Sep 2004 (MST)

Redirects

Tom: I'm seeing some deletion of redirect pages on the deletion log. It looks like most of those pages will not be missed, but it does help to have some "common" misspelling articles redirect to the proper article. This is not for sloppy linking , as no pages SHOULD link to a redirect page. This is for people who come to the site, punch in a name into the search box and are taken to the correct page.

There is always some debate over what constitutes a common misspelling. I created a redirect from Whats her face to What's her face. This seems useful to me. Let me know what you think about this. Drhaggis 15:42, 15 Sep 2004 (MST)

I agree. The ones I've been trying to catch are old links that were not fixed correctly during the move. Things like "MainPage 10" that were used instead of "Main Page 10" becuase of CamelCase on 'Tavi. The person who created that redirect then went ahead and created one for "MainPage 11", even though nothing linked there. I don't see the need for 21 pages to be created like this. Another example is "sbemail1" and its companions. There isn't a need for that.
Of course, you also have to remember that we turned on case-sensitivity. That means that "What's Her Face" and "What's her Face" are also two completely different pages. I'd rather that a link show up in red and someone pick up on their mistake right away then have them continue to make links to redirect pages. But I suppose it would be very hard to keep a lid on things like this once we get going. -- Tom 15:55, 15 Sep 2004 (MST)
Oh, Contraire! I have often wanted to be able to quickly type "sbemailxx" into the search box to find something quickly. I agree that old camel case links should be removed, but I see nothing wrong with shortcut redirects for the lazy. (I was actually thinking of adding these the other day, then stumbled across this thread. Sorry I'm a little late joining the discussion.) :) --JoeyDay 22:37, 25 Oct 2004 (MST)

Hey, Tom! Have you listened to "Dragostea din tei" with Haiducii or O-Zone? They're from Romania. -Maudi --193.150.221.247 16:28, 19 Sep 2004 (MST)

Sorry, I have to admit that I still haven't. Have you made a userpage yet? Heh heh. But seriously, I know there's some stuff that needs to be attributed to you by being on your userpage. -- Tom 18:08, 20 Sep 2004 (MST)

Note

Oh geez, man, it looks like I disambiguated a page you deleted. Took too long doing it, I guess. I'm really sorry about that. --TheNintenGenius 19:40, 20 Sep 2004 (MST)

No problem, I can just re-delete it. And I appreciate you leaving this note. It makes me feel good. -- Tom 19:41, 20 Sep 2004 (MST)

Oh Man

[In reply to a comment from User_talk:Thunderbird_L17]

All that work... I'm really sorry. I was trying to figure out why all my pics looked slightly off. Oh well. I've switched over now. I just wish I hadn't deleted them as I went along... Oh well. I think I'm still doing ok for only being here about a week. Again, my apolagies. And they'll all be PNG from now on. Btw, if you could provide me with a list of the JPG pictures I uploaded, I could replace them in my spare time. Thanks.

-Thunderbird

Hey, no problem. Here's a good place to get started. Then there's always the Image List. I think that might work best. And I can come up with a better list if you need it. And I'm glad you can see the difference. -- Tom 04:03, 21 Sep 2004 (MST)

UPDATE:

Topic Complete.

All of my uploaded JPG files are now PNG. Took a bit of doing, but it's done.

Sebastian Coe

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastian_Coe
He first ran against Ovett in Prague in 1978 in an 800 meter race that neither won. The next year in Oslo, Norway, Coe set his first world records (in the 800-meter and mile races). One of the most famous races between Ovett and Coe was in the 1980 Olympic Games in the 1500-meters. Coe won in Olympic Record time.

Further References

From http://www.geocities.com/hotsprings/3257/coe.html
He beat Ovett's mile record, running it in 3 min 48.53 sec on August 19; only a week later Ovett set another mile record, which was then shattered by Coe with a 3 min 47.33 sec run on August 28.

Here are some of his times in the mile:
mile 3'4895 1979 Wr (Oslo)
mile 3'4853 1981 Wr (Zurich)
mile 3'4733 1981 Wr (Bruxelles)
Note: Wr stands for World Record.

One final reference: http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/World%20record%20progression%20for%20the%20mile%20run

And a quote from you;

"Hmm. [Coe] didn't really run the mile. And he never had the world record."

Could you please cite your references?? As far as I can tell, he not only ran the mile, he also held the world record on three seperate occasions.~Hobo

Um, my bad. But you did notice that I changed my edit after that edit you quoted me on, right? And that I was being particularly ambigious in my wording? Anyway, you are right. No hard feelings. Thank you. -- Tom 19:13, 22 Sep 2004 (MST)
So, were you gonna change it back then? ~Hobo
Done. -- Tom 09:13, 23 Sep 2004 (MST)
Thanks ~Hobo

Idea

How about desktop background downloads for the wiki? Anyone who wanted to create one could, then e-mail one of the admins the image. Then the admin, if approved, could upload it into the wiki images. It's just an idea, but I like the sound of it. I'd love to have an HRwiki background. -- FireBird

Hmm. I don't think so. The problem is this, the Wiki is just for information. If you want to make something on your own and then have it somewhere that you could link to from your userpage, that would be better. See, we kind of tread on this uneasy ground with copyrights and the like. Not only that, but there's also the content issue. I know a background that you would make would most likely be good and wholesome for the Wiki and for Homestar Runner, but I wouldn't want to encourage other not-as-good backgrounds to be made. You are always free to make your own backgrounds, keep them to yourself, use them on your computer, and do what ever you want with them.
As of right now, I'll say this: I don't think you will ever have an official Homestar Runner Wiki background. But I'll ask around and see what I can do. -- Tom 19:43, 22 Sep 2004 (MST)
That's fine with me. -- FireBird

Floppy Disks

Since you apparently look after the floppy disk section mostly, I figured you would be the best person to ask. How do you feel about a picture of the floppy disk container and it's label beside every listing of it in the inside jokes section? I would be happy to complete that undertaking if you approve. Also, is there anywhere else I could add some pictures? I'm finished the rejects section.

-Thunderbird_L17

Floppy Disk Container/StrongBadEmailDiskLabels. Check it out. The problem is this: the Wiki is text-based, and information provided through text makes things much easier to search and quicker to load. I'm not really sure that having a screenshot of every different one is needed. Why would it need to be seen by the viewer? Could they simply watch the toon or email instead? One thing that really needs to be done regarding The Container is having the links to the page standardized. Every Fun Facts section on every email and toon that has The Container in it should link to the Floppy Disk Container page in a uniform way. You could get started on that, if you want. And then there's what the disks actually reference. There's a subpage of the Old Wiki page on that needs to be copied over and gone through with a fine-tooth comb.
Regarding the images, you kind of need to convince me why they are actually needed. Thanks for asking though, this has really gotten me thinking. -- Tom 19:31, 22 Sep 2004 (MST)

Well since you already have the list of where the disk case occurs, it should be easy to find the toons to put the link in. I'll get on it later. As far as the floppy images go, I don't think they're NEEDED per-say, but I think it would be kinda cool. It lets people really VISUALIZE the floppys. They would be really small pics too, not full screen. But if you don't want them I won't put them there. As for other pics though, I have been kind of going through the sites putting pictures on everything, if you don't like any of them, feel free to take them off. I just think that any character, object, or place does need a picture to really visualize what the afforementioned thing is. Most of the pages I did only have one or two pics, with the exceptions of The King of Town's Castle place page, and the Tandy_400 computer page. I kinda may have gone overboard on those ones. Look 'em over and decide. The Monkey_D's page also have a few. If you don't like them you can fix them how you see fit. But the widescreen pic in Strong_Bad's_Basement, I'm really proud of that pic. It took me awhile. -- Thunderbird L17 22:24, 22 Sep 2004 (PST)

Those four pages that you linked to are good. And that basement image is especially good. In some places, it borders on the line of being to much, but I think you played it well. They also could use some small tweaks, but that will all come in good time. As for The Floppies, I think you can make a seperate section on the page for the images and organize them in a table. I actually have all the images, and I can upload them later if you want to use them. (I use them for my avatar on the forum.) What do you think of that? -- Tom 09:11, 23 Sep 2004 (MST)

Okay, it's up and running..ish. Access it from the regular floppy list. If you have the images, feel free to upload them. Any that you don't have, or don't feel like uploading, I can them. Just upload what you want, and I'll do the rest. Oh, and how do you feel about the naming of images in the Floppy_*name_of_e-mail*.PNG uniformity? You can name then however you want, but I think there should be some form of uniformity in naming the image files. Just tell me if this is okay, and if you're done uploading the images you want. Also, they should all be fullscreen screenshots, right?

Thunderbird L17 11:10, 27 Sep 2004 (PST)

Alrightie. Update on the floppy disk container. I've been slowly working away at the Floppy disk container with screenshots page, no help needed there, but as I do so I realized another thing missing from the floppy disk container section, and an actual USEFUL thing, is a breif description and history of the games listed on the floppy disk containers. So that being said, I'm also plugging away at that in my little corner of the floppy disk page. If you would like the commentaries on the main floppy disk page too, which I think would be useful, please let me know so that I can add them to both pages as I go along. No rush though, it'll probably be a few weeks before I'm finished researching them and all. Let me know if you think this would be an improvement to the floppy disk page though. Generally I don't ask permission for editing things, but since you're the senior and keeper of the floppy disk container, I thought it was only fair to ask you. So what are your thoughts?

Thunderbird L17 9:45, 6 Oct 2004 (PST)

I do like the information on what the labels mean, and I wouldn't really call them commentaries. They are all pretty clear cut. Let's see how big they get and then play it from there. Keep them on that screenshot page for now, I don't want to violate HRWiki:Once And Only Once. -- Tom 18:44, 7 Oct 2004 (MST)

Hiho. I've run into a roadblock doing the pics. In the e-mail 'lackey', how did you read, let alone get a picture, of the CD case? It's off the screen! Please let me know, or if you have the pic, simply save it as Floppy_lackey.PNG . Please let me know either way whenever. Thanks.

-Thunderbird L17 10:37, 11 Oct 2004 (PST)

I used a program called Flash Decompiler. It's a free download, so you might want to give it a try. Though I wasn't able to export the actual image, I was able to read the text. But you might have better luck than I did. -- Tom 15:41, 11 Oct 2004 (MST)

Sorry, I don't like treating you like an FAQ, I just have ONE last question. (Probably)... I have the program, but how do you get the file onto it? It seems like you can only decompile files on your harddrive. Is this so? If it is, how do you get a flash file (SB E-mail Lackey) onto your hard drive? If it isn't, how do you get it from the interent? Last question, probably. I promise. Likely.

-Thunderbird L17 7:33, 13 Oct 2004 (PST)

Down the bottom of each toon's or email's page, there's a link for the flash file. Just right click and choose "Save Link As..." or your browser's equivalent. -- Tom 15:57, 14 Oct 2004 (MST)

Thanks, I got it. What do you think of my floppy for Lackey? It's the best I could do... Anyways, I wanted to ask you about the once and only once policy. Though I agree that it's a good policy, I think that the 'see above' thing destroys the look of the summaries, especially once they are all finished. Plus, 'Manhunter New York' appeared in an e-mail at the top, then a toon way at the bottom. So it would be kind of hard to just say 'see above'. Plus since the picture is repeated, why not the explanation? You are the moderater, and whatever you decide I'll abide by, but in this case, since it's only for about 4 floppies, a number that's not likely to be increased, could I just repeat the explanations?

-Thunderbird L17 6:28, 15 Oct 2004 (PST)

You know, I do like the idea of having the information on both. Let's try using a tempate instead. Do you think that will work? -- Tom 18:33, 15 Oct 2004 (MST)

Template? I don't know much about website formating or whatnot. Basically everything I do on the Wiki I learn by looking at how somebody else wrote a code, and then copying that pattern. But if you think the template or whatever will work, go ahead. You were right about floating the pictures to the left, making it into tables, all that kind of thing. Just do what you want, and if I disagree I can always revert. But overall I'm happy with what you do. Does this mean that I can put the repeat explanations on the few pictures though, instead of 'see above'?

-Thunderbird L17 23:49, 15 Oct 2004 (PST)

Okay, here's what I did. I created Template:tongue of the fatman, Template:lode runner, and Template:manhunter new york. Check out the page to see if you like it. Now, there's only one place you need to go in order to change the content that will show up for both floppies. -- Tom 07:41, 16 Oct 2004 (MST)

Okay, that works. I don't really plan on editing them much anyways anymore, once the summary is there. But it looks exactly the same, so it's fine. Btw, I fixed the out of place 3.5 inch disk summary, I found a place for it where it fits nicely. Now nothing has two explanations, and the 5.25 inch disks don't have the same summary twice. (See Second 5.25 Inch Disk Summmary)

-Thunderbird L17 9:09, 16 Oct 2004 (PST)

Very good. Well done. -- Tom 09:10, 16 Oct 2004 (MST)

Hey, can you do the same to Cave Quest (100th e-mail) that you did to Shogun? I can't get it the right size without it pixelating...

-Thunderbird L17 18:33, 17 Oct 2004 (PST)

Heh heh. I already did. You can revert back to my image from here if you like. -- Tom 18:42, 17 Oct 2004 (MST)

Hey Tom, I thought JPG format was to be used for videos and pictures, and PNG for all flash material. Plus I think the JPG looked clearer and brighter. If you really don't want it there, then I'll try another way, but I thought I read somewhere that JPG was preferable for pictures, just not for flash. Is the one JPG really that bad? Please clarify. Thanks.

Thunderbird 06:30, 25 Oct 2004 (MST)

Ah ha. There's a little catch here though. We are talking about a screenshot of a movie or image, and not the actual image itself. Screenshots should always be PNGs. The only kinds of JPGs we should have are photos like Image:TheBrothersChapsBandW.jpg or Image:mattchapman.jpg. Perhaps an screenshot like Image:puppetdween.png better illustrates what I'm trying to say. -- Tom 08:35, 25 Oct 2004 (MST)

Okay, I getcha. Then I guess I'll just put it back on the old PNG one for now. Thanks. I guess if anything, it adds diversity...

Thunderbird 19:08, 25 Oct 2004 (MST)

Alright, I think it's finally done. I have one more little task though that I can't complete on my own. The three templates, Template:manhunter_new_york , Template:lode_runner , and Template:tongue_of_the_fatman are now unneeded, and as such should be deleted, right? I can't figure out how to. If you know of a way, be my guest. Or should they just be left peacefully, until the end of time? -- Thunderbird 09:40, 1 Nov 2004 (MST)

Sorry, I was just going to get breakfast when I finished my summary, and when I finished it I realized there was a stored version that wasn't there when I started. I didn't have time to merge them so I just uploaded mine, and I was going to merge them when I got the chance, which is now. I did notice the picture though, and already put it up. Sorry about that, I don't want to offend anyone. I'm going to merge them right now. I just figured if I put mine in quickly yours is still stored as a past edit, so that way they're both there if needed. -- Thunderbird 12:21, 15 Nov 2004 (MST)

Actually, I never thought about NPOV. While I was doing all this, I used reviews as sources, it's easier to just take the opinions of the writers and condence them. But I think that meathod has given the summaries a multi purpose, to now give you a bit of background about the game for curiosity's sake, but also as a type of mini review, for those who are deciding whether or not to find and play them. It gives the summaries a critical and reviewish type feel. Now to go back and do them all NPOV'D would take some doing, and in my opinion I don't think would be as enjoyable to read. What do you think? Side Note: Since they replaced the 5.25's along with the Tandy, do you think they might replace the 2.5's with CD's along with the comp? I dunno, just a curious little observation.

First time Here? on Log in

Is there anyway to link to the about page on a log in page? It seems that people don't read that page, and it might help new users who log in? Do you agree? -- FireBird

Hmm, that's a pretty good idea. I'll look into that. But what might even be better is if we had some sort of welcoming committee. Would you want to be in charge or something like that? -- Tom 18:55, 7 Oct 2004 (MST)
I think it would be great if we had a welcoming committee (and I wouldn't mind being in charge). -- FireBird
Fantastic, I'm happy to hear it. Just look over what Wikipedia does. We don't need all that stuff, but I'm sure you'll find a way to adapt it for us. -- Tom 19:50, 7 Oct 2004 (MST)
Should I make a page for our own little welcome committee? -- FireBird
Yeah, Hrwiki:Welcoming committee should work nicely. You're in charge, buddy. -- Tom 19:58, 7 Oct 2004 (MST)

SB Email categories

I moved the Category: Strong Bad Email as a sub-category of Category: Strong Bad Filmography. All the emails were in both categories when technically all SB Emails are part of his filmography by default. It cleans up the Strong Bad filmography nicely and keeps the all the emails grouped together. There is only one email that SB is not in, but due to this arrangement will still be included in his filmography, but taking the IMDB as a guide, if someone guest hosts the "Late Show with David Letterman" it is called "Late Show Backstage", but it still shows up on Dave’s filmography. - Drhaggis 09:01, 12 Oct 2004 (MST)

Personally I don't think this really makes sense. An email that Strong Bad is not in should not be in his Filmography, despite what IMDb does. — InterruptorJones[[]]
I agree. -- FireBird
I also found it a bit confusing. Strong Bad, Homestar, and Marzipan are in all of Marzipan's Answering Machines, but I don't think that should be a sub-category of any one of their filmographies. I think it would not be confusing to have every email be directly in Strong Bad's Filmography, except anything, just how it was. It would also be less confusing for someone just looking at any email and thinking to themselves, "Oh, this one isn't listed in Strong Bad's Filmography", since it does not show up directly on the page as it is now with the subcategory. That's really what it comes down to, that Category: Strong Bad Filmography does not show up on the emails. Oh, and the "anything" thing too. -- Tom 11:56, 12 Oct 2004 (MST)

Funny, the IMDB is a suitable guide to determine the precedent for a voice over. To me the Filmography categories are proving to be more trouble then they are worth and a misapplication of the original intent of the category structure. I understand wanting an automatically generated list for the 12 main characters that show up in everything, but it seems from all the other character pages that the Wiki users are more than capable of manually tracking the appearances of even the most obscure psudo-characters.

The stucture:

Character->Filmography->Strong Bad Filmography->Strong Bad Email
makes a lot of sence to me. SB is in all but one email, which can be explained by a note. If having 100+ emails cluttering the SB filmography and being unnessicarily duplicated in the email list and in the email category doesnt bother you, then it wont bother me.
I guess I should get going on Category: Biscuit Dough Hands Man Filmography while I'm at it. - Drhaggis 12:15, 12 Oct 2004 (MST)
Your presentation just now does make a bit of sense. I'll have to see what others think. Though on that other issue, as I understood it, the filmography categories were never supposed to be extended beyond the 12 main characters. Somewhere along the line, this was not explained well enough and the whole thing took off. I think there's over fifty filmographies now. I'd be happy to draw a line somewhere. Hiho. I'm not getting much of a response on the Main Talk Page, so I figured I'd go straight to the source, assuming that the source(s) are moderators. Anyways, here's my question. Who's in charge of the Main Page, not so much the look of it, I don't really care about that, but moreso the organization of the links to pages. Now I'm no moderator, but I was curious as to why the links are organized the way they are. Why are Inside Jokes part of Wiki Stuff, Yet Songs part of Knowledge Base? I've been thinking about the layout, and I belive I've figued out a good way of sortage, and am hoping for either a yes or a no. Either one, as long as I can maybe get some kind of explanation as to why they're sorted the way they are, should the answer be a no. Anyhoo, without further ado, I give you my sorting idea...

Basically it consists of the Knowledge Base containing ONLY the things listed on the H*R main page(s), and putting everything left over into Wiki Stuff. It would look something like this, and would have the added bonus of evening the two sections out, leaving External Links on the bottom...

(The Knowledge Base Stuff)

Then this to the right of it: (Perhaps the first part even in an additional section?)

(Perhaps another section here?)

Then the external links in another catergory. Is there any problem with this layout? The idea behind it is that the first section are your main ingrediants, and the second one is things that you can make out of them. I just belive that things such as Rejects and Inside Jokes should be in the same catergory as things such as songs and items. Any answer to this would be much appreciated, and then I'll shut up about it. Thanks alot Tom. -- Thunderbird 02:33, 20 Nov 2004 (MST)

I'm not really sure. Your line of thinking makes sense, however I'm thinking it is our system of classification that really seems to be the issue. Inside Jokes? Rejects? What the heck are those really? Things need to be clearly defined and a system needs to be implimentated to classify things. -- Tom 13:57, 21 Nov 2004 (MST)

Hmmm... Thats a good point. Okay, well at least keep my organizational idea in mind as you go about implementing the changes. And with that, I withdraw from the Main Page arguments and leave it in the rest of the Wiki's capable hands. -- Thunderbird 16:29, 21 Nov 2004 (MST)

STUFF and Fun Facts

As you may have read I have an issue with the STUFF page. I am very glad someone has spearheaded an attempt to control the "fun fact" problem, but I still think that the voting and discussion for disputed Fun Facts should be made on the article's talk page and not on the STUFF page.

If a controversial article like Wikipedia:History of Israel can exist on the Wikipedia by using the Talk page and without resorting to a common page voting system, I think the Homestar Wiki article virus can too.

Now that we have people's attention with the STUFF page I suggest that we move content discussion back to the Talk pages where they belong.

I have created a preliminary template:disputed

It reads as follows:This article contains Disputed Fun Facts

This could be used to let contributors know that there is a dispute, and to direct them to the talk page. The Disputed Fun Facts link should go to a page with the info that furrykef wrote on what is and is-not a good fun fact.

People were not using the talk pages effectively in the past, which is a failure of us the users, not of the talk pages.

-Dr Haggis 16:35, 26 Nov 2004 (MST)

I completely agree that talk pages are not effectively used by our users. I did read your comment on the talk page and did like some parts of it.
You mentioned there that the popularity of the "Stuff" page is typical of a sloppy discussion forum and not an article based reference guide. I indeed was amazed at all the users who were very interested in voting. It appears that a quick vote and comment is much easier than proposing fixes and improvements.
You also presented the idea that this problem inherent mostly because the Homestar Runner Universe is finite. I completely agree. I also believe this is why some users, instead of improving on articles that already exist, create very small articles for very fringe elements of said universe. While I don't think that the Stool article may be one of these, I'm not entirely interested in proposing other examples at this time.
While this may not be the time or place to discuss your other comment on that talk page about proper classification, I believe it would be important to address that issue with whichever system is accepted for the dealing with fun facts.
As Kef noted in his reply to your comment, the STUFF process was loosely based on Wikipedia's Votes for Deletion process. I do like Wikipedia's VfD process and have participated in it in the past, but as you may notice we don't have a system like this for dealing with the deletion of pages because we are so small. It works for Wikipedia but would simply would not work for us.
Throughout my travels around Wikipedia, I have seen several pages with notices like the one on the Wikipedia:History of Israel page. While I don't believe the scale of discussions here will every reach such a level as that, I am willing to investigate the possibility of using such a system.
If we were to adopt your proposal, I would want some sort of centrally located instruction page. As you mention, this could contain some of Kef's rules from the STUFF page. I'd also want it to list all the pages that are currently going through the process.
Of course, your proposal is in direct conflict with the current STUFF system, which the users seems to have latched on to. I like your proposal, but I'm interested in hearing how you would implement it given the current circumstances.
Thank you for being bold enough to propose an alternative.

Image Use Policy

Hi, I was just wondering about the special page "Image Use Policy", accessable from the Upload Page. It doesn't seem to have anything on it. Is there any way to fix that? ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 18:35, 7 Dec 2004 (MST)

Good find. I've changed the link so that it goes to HRWiki:Image use policy. -- Tom 09:58, 8 Dec 2004 (MST)
Thanks, I'll get to work on that a bit later. Maybe cut and paste something from Wikipedia and go from there. In other news, were you aware that somebody turned the Floppy Disk Container into a redirect? Is this allowed? Do you condone this? If so, I'm sorry that I kind of hijacked your pride and joy and turned it into my own. I'll make it up to you, somehow... Thunderbird 01:25, 14 Dec 2004 (MST)
I did notice that redirect and decided to not do anything about it. And the only thing we have now regarding images is what is in the screenshot section on the Standards page. -- Tom 11:15, 14 Dec 2004 (MST)

Poor Images

[In reply to a comment on User_talk:Fhqwhgadshgnsdbkhsdabkfabkveybvf]

Yeah, hi. You asked how I made those pictures? Well, I have a screenshot program that only makes Jpegs (which I later save as PNG's), so you can see why the quality would be poor. 'Cause, you know, Jpegs are poor quality. Oh, and I like how you are constanly using WikiPedia links. ---Fhqwhgadshgnsdbkhsdabkfabkveybvf 22:58, 23 Dec 2004 (MST)

Yeah, Wikipedia links are great. I'm curious as to what "screenshot program" you use. What operating system are you running? I know Windows captures raw image files to the clipboard with a simple push of the "print screen" key. These can be used in any image editing program, like the free the GIMP. They turn out much better than other images you uploaded. -- Tom 08:52, 24 Dec 2004 (MST)
[Cross posted at User_talk:Fhqwhgadshgnsdbkhsdabkfabkveybvf at 17:54, 24 Dec 2004 (MST)]

I use this thing called Screenshot Utility as my, quote unquote, "screenshot program", if that's what you call those things. But anyway, I'm trying to download a new "program of shots of screens", but the downloading bar's been stuck at 77% for like, 10 minutes, so, I dunno.

About blocking

Hello, Tom! I don't mean to interfere with anything, but I noticed that you blocked 24.1.84.103 for defacing the Main Page when it looks like s/he was restoring it from another troll (and then it was trolled again by that "logan" kid).

Anyway, I really admire the work you've been doing on this Wiki. Gweat job...I mean, gweat job...I mean, gweat job. --FortyTwo 20:41, 27 Dec 2004 (MST)

Yeah man, that's my bad. Thanks. It's been fixed. -- Tom 20:48, 27 Dec 2004 (MST)

Re: Rejects cat

Just got your message. The reason I started the "project" is because, from my view, the Rejected Characters should be flagged not only from the Rejects page, but from their article itself. --Gafaddict 21:26, 28 Dec 2004 (EST)

Your concern is understandable, but the whole "rejects" thing really isn't to Drhaggis and my liking. However I'm mostly at a loss at how to classify these things, but I'll ask Drhaggis, as putting things into categories is his speciality. -- Tom 19:33, 28 Dec 2004 (MST)
I think the "Rejects" page should be deleted. If we as a community have deemed a character or item "article worthy" we simply create the article and categorize it accordingly. I think "Rejects" are a hold over from the old Wiki that is not served by the capabilities of the new Wiki. There are few truly "Rejected" things; Dijjery-Doo for example was rejected by TBC, but he has still popped up in for kids.
The Characters/Items/Places categories are a bit big, and can be grouped into sub categories. - Dr Haggis - Talk 12:51, 29 Dec 2004 (MST)
Okay, sounds reasonable enough to me. However, how do you think we can go about this with minimal damage to the egos of those responsible for said Rejects? And I sure don't want anything to get lost. -- Tom 13:14, 29 Dec 2004 (MST)
I think we just need to delete the "Rejects" list. All the things that were previously deamed to be rejected already have articles so no data is lost, just the well done "...are a waste of time" banners on the page. - Dr Haggis - Talk 13:23, 29 Dec 2004 (MST)
Whoa! Those things really are all categorizied. Okay, the page has been deleted, and all article links to it have been removed. -- Tom 13:36, 29 Dec 2004 (MST)

Rejected Halloween Costumes Task

Hi Tom! Thunderbird here again, with a special task for a few of my fellow users. On the Sketchbook page, in the Museum section of that page, the last picture is a bunch of rejected halloween costume ideas. The caption gives the challenge '10 bucks to anyone who can identify them all'. So what I propose is to identify them all. I've already set up a basic 'top left to bottom right' type list under the 'Description' section, with the two most obvious costumes in it. But can we get the other costumes, and win ourselves $10? Any costumes you know would be a help. Thanks. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 02:14, 2 Jan 2005 (MST)

Update: The good Doctor Haggis was far faster with that task than I could have ever expected. All the costumes are done with the exception of one: The full body Marzipan. Many think that she is in fact Belle from Beauty & the Beast, but we're not quite sure about that. What are your thoughts? Any better ideas as to who this mystery Marzipans could be, or even just your opinion as to weather or not she's Belle? ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 12:11, 2 Jan 2005 (MST)

Stu...

Re: huttah!

You're right but wrong. You were correct that there was no evidence of a camera in The Cheat's room. However, my comment on the non-revert was due to the fact that the writer essentially plugged a personal comment into the middle of the transcript (which is NOT acceptable); upon seeing that, I admit that I barely read it. --Jay 15:31, 22 Jan 2005 (MST)

Understood. And you are right. I did not revert back to the writer's version, and did remove the commentary-like style. Thanks Jay. -- Tom 21:30, 22 Jan 2005 (MST)
