Commentary Transcript

(Commentary by: Matt Chapman, Mike Chapman)

MATT: Look, Mike, it's an old book! How many times do you think I say something about, "Look Mike", or "Hi Mike", or "Hey Mike" at the beginning at a commentary?

MIKE: All of them. This is the last bit of Homestar Runner-ery before the website.

MATT: That's right. This was done on Mike's old Free Country, USA website.

MIKE: Yeah, this is just a HTML page click-through story book. Mindspring.com... what was your old...

MATT: ~mikechapman?

MIKE: Yeah, yeah. So, for some reason the "post box" and the "auto" is basically British. Old Homestar sort of had this weird Japanese feel, and then he went through this weird British phase.

{both laugh}

MIKE: And this is the uh... when Bubs and Coach Z, their first appearance.

MATT: De-butt.

MIKE: De-butt. And the umpire, too. Who, uh...

{Matt laughs}

MATT: Who we forgot to make that Easter egg! We were going to put the Umpire in an Easter egg in the last email we made.

MIKE: You'll never hear from him again now! That was his one chance!

MATT: I like the weird shadow of the can. The wind from the can flying. The motion lines.

MIKE: Yeah.

MATT: That's a nice fridge.

MIKE: Well... well, thanks.

MATT: I want to punch this narrator, Mike.

MIKE: That's you, Matt. He's really...

MATT: I don't like him. He's very soft-spoken. He's pandering. I feel like if I was a child I would be insulted by him. Like, "This guy thinks I'm an idiot! I need to be handled with kid gloves." Say something else, Mike.

MIKE: Eh...

MATT: What do you think of your style? Were you... you know, kind of "loosely fill in..."

MIKE: Go outside the lines?

MATT: Yeah, like they tell you not to do!

MIKE: Yeah. I was breaking all the rules with this one. {"The End" shows up on the screen} I agree.

MATT: Yeah...
