[edit] What is this for?

Was this created as some sort of test? All it will do is print the same thing twice, the first time in boldface, with a colon in between. --Jay (Talk) 05:12, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

sorry I accidently did that and fixed it. and it's for transcripts:
{{tr|MARZIPAN|oh hi homestar!}}
{{tr|HOMESTAR|strong bad's here!}}
turns into:
MARZIPAN: oh hi homestar!
HOMESTAR: strong bad's here!

Okay, I see what you're doing here. This template along with {{tr-do}} would be used for transcripts:

{{tr|HOMESTAR RUNNER|{{tr-do|still singing}} It's the hold music, do doot. Tch. Pa doo doot. Tch. Boodoo doo doot. Tch. {{tr-do|high pitched voice}} Hold music!}}
HOMESTAR RUNNER: {still singing} It's the hold music, do doot. Tch. Pa doo doot. Tch. Boodoo doo doot. Tch. {high pitched voice} Hold music!

It's an interesting idea, but I don't see the upside of going in and adding templates to all the toons. If we ever decided to change our formatting, it might be useful to go in and add templates so that we could make other changes more easily, but going in to add templates that just preserve our existing formatting would not be all that worthwhile. — It's dot com 16:08, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

And as it stands, {{tr-do|high pitched voice}} actually takes longer to type and is harder to remember than ''{high pitched voice}'', and this template doesn't save any more time than that. It would be a quick solution if we decide to change our formatting more than once, but it will be just as much work if we change it only once since, either way, we'll need to go through and edit every transcript on the site... and for dialogue, the only POSSIBLE thing I can think of to change it would be to use faces instead of HOMESTAR RUNNER:, and I don't even know if that's a good idea. --Jay (Talk) 21:26, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
If we ever did redo all our transcripts (which isn't the worst idea; there are some improvements that could be made), I'm wondering if a parser function wrapper could be made that would automatically format the whole thing. That way we would have to reformat the code only once, and if we wanted to change it again, we could then do it globally. It might even be possible for users to choose from a couple of styles in their preferences. But I'm getting ahead of myself. At any rate, we wouldn't want to do it line-by-line with individual templates, so we don't need this template. — It's dot com 02:31, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
